Gold or Rep be damned when i can just explore, sail and do Tall tales in peace. Taking 2-3 hours of commitment on a voyage only to have it taken by "those" people puts me off the game for weeks. By "those people", you mean normal players that play a game called sea of 'thieves'. The bigeest problem with SoT devs is they said they would never have PvE servers its goes against everything and the whole point of the game. If you think this is a win then you couldn't be more wrong, this is the final nail in the coffin in a desperate attempt to get anyone to play the game from all the players they have lost over the last year.
Your comment is proof that anyone that plays this mode is not going back to high seas, the whole point of this safe seas is to bed people into high seas. This is what happens when you tailor to people your game is not made for. You end up losing everyone...

@mariospanna8389 I think you missed the point of them doing it. They are doing it essentially because they know maiden voyage doesn't teach you all that it should and to add all that onto maiden voyage isn't feasible.
Plus, I agree with kraken, tall tales shouldn't be on the same servers as pvp. You should have a place to teach players the game.
And if you have an issue with the fact that some people are for it and disagree with you, you are part of the problem and reason why people are leaving because it's not the way you want it. Not everyone is into pvp.

The draw to Sea of Thieves for me, is the unique art style of the game and world. Now players will have the option to experience and enjoy the world in a way they might prefer. I like to put myself on other types of players' shoes thinking on Safer Seas. I actually have some friends who think this world, these stories, these tall tales, these characters are wonderful and they wanted to experience all of them, but the sandbox aspect of encounters always kept them away from the game. It's a golden opportunity for me to play with them, to call them back to the game, and I'm the one who actually enjoys the game the other way around! I love the unexpected, traitors and allies, the RP on the game, but now I'm able to enjoy a whole bunch of the game, say the tall tales or maybe just exploring the beautiful world that the game has with these friends who just want a carefree session.
All of this also touches a bit on accessibility aspects, and I'm a very strong defensor of people being able to play games in the most meaningful and accessible way to them. • @proteuswest1084
    @proteuswest1084 Год назад +5

I respect what you're saying, but I definitely disagree with some of your points. As others have mentioned, level 40 is less than halfway to level 50 in terms of getting to Pirate Legend, and leveling to 40 in Safer Seas is probably going to take about as long as it did when you first started because none of the big events that make good money are included, the progression is slowed to 2018 levels, and they're selling the old fashioned way.
It is worth considering that a new player in 2023 comes in at such a wild disadvantage compared to what you did when you started because people were still figuring things out. Getting absolutely destroyed right out of the gates doesn't motivate the majority of people. It makes them quit. It doesn't feel like Rare would add this feature without hard data that shows this definitively because they surely knew it would be divisive.
Safer Seas players may not have situational awareness when they first come to High Seas, but neither do new players. The big difference though is that Safer Seas players transitioning over to High Seas may know how to steer their ship, fire their cannons, control their character, eat food, use their weapons, and repair their boat. And they'll likely have an attachment to the game because they got to play it before having a negative player experience. These are invaluable things. It's not like they won't learn to check horizons in the same way we all did; that experience is exactly the same, just delayed a bit.
This game is special to a lot of us who play it, and we should all be in favor of more people playing it and loving it. I won't agree with people who think that the game needs to be as hard or as difficult as it was when they started for the experience to be just as meaningful, or that perseverance through a brutal learning curve somehow makes the game better or it makes them better people or players.

I personally only want to play PvE ever, so limiting PvE content to force players back into PvP if they want to unlock stuff or experience all of the *PvE* content (owning a ship is a ridiculous thing to lock behind the PvP Pain Wall) is unnecessarily punitive. There is a very simple answer for this problem that is being ignored... just make it so that each player account has two entirely separate characters, one for PvE and one for PvP. Allow full access to every part of the game for BOTH, however lock all progress, items, money, and everything else to each mode. That means no taking your legendary beefed up galleon into PvP after leveling easily and safely in PvE... if I play a character in PvP, then it starts at the bottom with nothing like a fresh new player. The only thing that should be available across both accounts is stuff you purchased with real money.
I have wanted to play Sea of Thieves since launch, but never touched it due to the unavoidable PvP aspect and my crippling anxiety, which I play games to escape. I remember when games like the first Red Dead Redemption (also a shared world filled with violent thieves) had separate lobbies for PvE players where we could go and do literally everything in the game with our friends without overwhelming stress... we were treated as if we had just as much value as the PvP players. Now, in RDR 2 there is no such thing as a friendly lobby, only a *heavily* discounted GTA passive mode where you can toggle to take somewhat less damage from player attacks, but you still get killed before you can put your fishing rod away. I haven't touched that game in years thanks to the toxic KOS player base, and I spent a lot of money on it. PvE servers (or simply private servers TBH) would be a Godsend that would bring people like me back into the fold of so many great games, and while this isn't quite that, I do think its a step in the right direction to that end.
Real life is PvP. It is perfectly valid to want to escape that in my escapism.

I think Rare may have one eye on the future of the game and another big Pirate game coming out, maybe wrong, but I’ve played that other game, it’s great, PVP is a choice, not a given, I love SoT and all it brings, but things change, gaming changes, people’s mindsets change and companies need to cater to a wider community, the majority I think are more interested in PVE and not the chance encounter with a toxic crew that might ruin a couple of hours of gameplay because they’re a bit sensitive or too young to cope, if the toxicity and the cheating were to be addressed, this probably wouldn’t be happening, but that’s just my personal opinion.

A modest take on Safer Seas. My only question is why is there a really large fixation on people earning Pirate Legend?
I understand when the game released many moons ago that was THE "thing" to achieve due to the difficulty of being emissary-less Over the years Pirate Legend has become a stepping stone on the path to true mastery of the game, and Sea of Thieves require a balance of both PVP and PVE to truly be called a master of the seas. Sure you might be a quickswap sweat god that can skeet a parrot off a bell at 100 paces... but if you have to abandon ship when a Kraken grabs you, then you're still not quite there. And I feel like the current day Pirate Legend is the same. It just means you know how to use a dig spot, you know how to kill a skeleton, and you know how to find a shipwreck; and those are all things that can be achieved in solace... adding PvP to the mix just adds frustration and confusion.
So yes Safer Seas will be a shortcut to Pirate Legend, but that isnt as significant as enveloping yourself into all aspect of the game. To me, being a Pirate Legend, just means you know the basics.
I believe a new benchmark needs to be used to determine Pirate "Legendary". The Curses. The new legendary status should be : Gold Curse (for being able to tell a good story), Blessing/Skeleton Curse (for mastery of combat), Ashen Curse (for mastery of Treasure...uh findery),
And then the true elites on the sea can go further: Gold PvP Curses (Sweat) + Legendary Hunter of The Sea of Thieves (Patience) + Legendary Hunter of the Shrouded Ghost (Luck)
That should be the new Pirate Legend, and Beyond!

Honestly, this might be what actually gets me into the game. I bought it, but never played it because trying to learn a new game, conquer my thalassophobia *AND* deal with toxic/more experienced PvP scenarios at the same time was just too much for me to even think about. Remove the last one and I can balance the two former hurdles.
Hell, part of why I bought it was so I could try and work through my intense fear of the ocean in a safe, controlled way. I'm not gonna be even remotely close to ready to deal with PvP in any form until I've managed that, otherwise every interaction with other players is just gonna be a constant array of overwhelming fear of being sunk or knocked overboard, and dealing with the ocean unexpectedly. If I wanted a game to terrify me to the point I can barely function, there's plenty of games like phasmophobia out there for me to do that.
I want to enjoy the things Sea of Thieves is *meant* to provide for me to enjoy. I'd handle PvP better once I overcome my fears and get comfortable with the game's mechanics.

The same people who complain about the existence of Safer Seas are the creators of the problem. These servers are a consequence of the extreme toxicity that new players have been subjected to for years, and this, coupled with server stability problems and cheaters, has led Rare to make a decision that goes against their core idea of what SoT is all about.
"It's a pirate's game", the excuse to justify any kind of behaviour within the game. Well, I'll be very honest with you -> Thanks to your "Pirate Game" concept, the game is at its worst, you have kicked out so many people and created such a low player retention, that it had to come to this point. You have reaped the fruits that you have spent so many years sowing, now don't cry.
Every act has its consequences, here you have the result of years of grifeing, abuse and toxicity.

Personally I think safer seas is something that should have happened a long time ago as it felt inevitable, the game is at its core a cosmetic grind with extremely high risk for it. And I don’t care about the gold or commendations at all, sometimes I want to jump in sink a skelly ship after a garbage 50 hour work week then call it a night. Wish I had time to really sink into this game and learn but I don’t, and jumping in the last 5 times all I had was a solo sloop and immediately got chased down and sunk, after a already garbage work week it sucks, so this news is welcome to me.

Something no one has addressed is the fact that Rare has at its disposal all of the millions of non-cheating players to report cheaters but because of the excessive and ridiculous hoops they have to jump through, well, leaves most to say, um forget it. You must be recording and then upload it somewhere or have an editing program to put it in a lower quality than it was recorded in just to attach it to this ticket format and answer tons of questions. How about making it easier to report and some immediate action taken? Even when done perfectly, the bozos run around for hours and hours on their alt accounts doing blatant cheating, like teleporting WITH kegs onto your ship a few times and sinking you, a mile away from their boats or land.

It was a trick and the Pirate Lord chastised me for not thinking hard enough about what I was getting into.
It's high time that Rare stops receiving any kind of praise about their world-building or implemented storylines. If you want PVP you'll be in a server filled with players who want PVP and have better odds of having a full server because of it. When players graduate themselves to high seas they will have things to relearn… but this is straight forward and to be expected. they’ll now be able to focus on those pvp elements without having to also learn the basic functionality of playing the game. You make some good points about the new players being able to master the basics without being overwhelming by trying to figure out all the mechanics at once, but I think Kraken nailed it in terms of not developing a sense for PvP at all.
It's not that these players will develop bad habits, it's that they won't develop any applicable habits at all. How can they prepare for PvP in a world devoid of it? Fights with skeleton ships might be the closest thing, but even that doesn't compare.
We'll see how it goes, but I think a lot of these players might get to level 40 and just give up if / when they get rolled from PvP on the High Seas.

Rare is clearly viewing it that way too and like I said, it makes sense from a business perspective because it’s a potential increase in revenue.
From the perspective of the player though, I generally don’t think Rare is doing these people any favors when it comes to transitioning to the High Seas. P.S. The new Siren Skull sounds fun as hell. But I had to quit because I was running into hackers daily in about 20-30ish minutes of gameplay. Legends Week? I played for one day. Had a hacker teleport the chest of fortune out of the vault before fort was done. Made me so mad. My friend continued all week and it became the normal, if Fortune was up. 90% someone would join, TP it out, done. So what stops hackers from teleporting in, snagging the skull off your ship as you reach the outpost, and boom its gone. Plus they enable some sort of "streamer xbox mode" so their name doesnt appear on recently played with and unless you catch them on camera (physically see them and their name). Its a waste. If you snag one guy, they will use a new profile and relog into SoT. High Risk, High Reward loot, is just an invitation for hackers to troll you. Unless Rare commits to an actual anti-cheat and report system (not just video clips), then the siren skull might be fun.

All this carping about PvE servers...... You do realize that there are SoT players who would be quite content to NEVER do PvP? They want to fight skellies or dig up treasure or haul cargo or fish or do siren shrines or tall tales or just sail around and enjoy the ambience. They don't want to fight anybody. They don't want to be interrupted in what they are doing. They don't want to feel victimized and bullied. They don't like the paranoia that at any second a larger ship filled with more experienced fighters might swoop out from behind an island and step on them like a bug.
I ask you, why do YOU want that? What kind of achievement is it to sink a ship full of peaceful people who don't want to fight? Why does that make you happy? If making other people unhappy and/or mad is your kind of fun, seek help.

I don’t think people realize how slow the grind really will be on safer seas. Yeah it’s 30%, but also no emissaries, so it’s really 12% of what a grade 5 emissary would be in terms of gold an reputation. For example, if you can make 100k/hr which is reasonable on the high seas, you’d make 12k/hr on safer seas. Meaning you’d need 689 hrs grinding gold just to get enough for the DA sails. In terms of rep it took me 14.5 hrs solo as an experienced player to get PL on a new account. That would take 120 hrs on safer seas, and these players won’t be hard grinding anyway. So I don’t see it as a free gold/rep grind. It’s going to be much better on high seas. It just filters out the tall talers and completely new players

-Safe enviroinment for people to learn the game, meaning that the people who will come from safer seas into the regular game will be better and have more fun since they won't drop the game the first time they get stomped by a sweaty 4 man crew of reapers.
-People who like to open crew won't get potatoes for crewmates as often.
-Safe way to play with children or to simply relax with friends without high stakes.
-Tall Tales will become exponentially more enjoyable.
-It will only earn 30% gold and rep, meaning it'll take a lot longer to grind faction ranks. This is the most important point. If they gave 100% everything in safer seas, a lot of people would never play regularly and that would make the servers even more empty than they already are. Great video! First one I see from you so I subbed ;). In my honest opinion, they should make 100% everything-in PVE servers (minus functional reaper faction). PVE and PVP minded people will never agree, no matter how you put it. Fact is that this game is to beautiful and needs both PVP and PVE servers. The PVP people will have a better experience because all the people on the server will be competitive and like-minded (and also a little more salty). PVE players are mostly just in it for the relaxation this game offers, which honestly so many times I play, is not a fact. Problem is that most PVP minded persons will have a 'problem' with how 'easy' the game would become. And now with Safer Seas, PVE players are happy that they finally get some scraps from RARE. I became a Pirate legend while the game was out for like 2 months. I grinded A LOT! PVP-ed A LOT. And I enjoyed the game A LOT. But I am no PVP player, as I am not good at it. I hate PVP and that's also the reason I stopped playing Sea of Thieves a long time ago. PVP stresses me out, salty PVP players chased me away, and everything that RARE was saying was "This game is NOT for you". Though the game itself (PVE wise) is just so good, so yeah, it is a game for me... On top of that, I got LOADS of commendations that will be much easier to get in Safer Seas, but I don't care that now PVE minded people can get them as well without the hassle and threat of PVP. So safer seas, yes, I call it a good start. PVP vs PVE people, lay down your arms and lets both enjoy this game without going at each other's throat IRL.

In my view, I think a lot of people are missing just what kind of teaching Safer Seas will bring about. The major split for Safer seas are people debating on if Safer Seas will prepare new players for PvP properly or not. To me, that argument is sort of missing the point, because its not trying to teach players how to PvP, but instead nudging them into the right mindset to help them figure it out easier and with less frustration.
In Game design when crafting enemies, a strategy as old as time is to have enemies not just get entirely new powers, but also modify the existing patterns which allowed you to defeat them. Such as perhaps a level 1 enemy colored blue can only be damaged if you shoot it in the head. Then on then next level, a red variant of that enemy appears that can deflect attacks aimed at its head back at the player. It still has the same core ending. Shoot the head to win. It's just now theirs a new variable you have to account for. But the key is you already understand the core solution, you just need to find a new way too it.
This is where I think Safer Sea's will shine in showing new players the ropes. It's true, it will not prepare new players entirely for a galleon to roll up on them. But due to their encounters in Safer Seas skeleton ships, they will know enough concepts to make the situation of "how do I defeat this galleon?" That much easier to solve.
To take the example I used before. Skeleton ship is the blue enemy, player galleon is the red. Both require the same core concept to defeat: Shoot holes in the right places so the ship floods with water and sinks. Because the player had previous experience and time to experiment with the Blue enemy, they know things like "This is where I shoot to make water start flooding the ship." "If I shoot the cannons on the other ship, it will knock the ones using them back and they won't be able to fire back effectively." Or even. "If I go over to their ship, I can spawn camp them and stop them from repairing or firing back."
But now their's the red ship that takes those same concepts and twists them. Now this ship can board you and try to spawn camp you. This ship can fire on YOUR cannonline to stop you from firing. Skeleton ships could maybe shoot your mast down (informing you its possible), but player ships will specifically try too to slow you down.
Its this natural progression that will make PvP encounters easier to swallow, because instead of running around like headless chickens as they have NO idea what's going on they will have basic abilities that, hey, MIGHT even let them get a win! Lets be honest everyone talks about double gunning sweat lords, but most of the time when encountering another ship on the seas? just the ability's I've described before (Shooting lowers, shooting the cannon line, boarding) is enough to secure a sink on the average player. And even if they do sink, putting the basics in the practice will show a tangible effect which will give them the confidence they need to make that jump.
The idea that "I was that new player, I got beaten down and had to choose to get back up." Is appropriate, but I also feel is a bit too harsh. Because it takes a specific kind of person to be utterly beaten to a pulp over and over again and still get back up. That's the barrier new players have. But what could make that beating SO much more bearable to the average person is the ability to look at the person beating them and see they gave them a black eye in return.
"That ship sunk me. But I managed to board them and kill one!"
"That was so close, I actually managed to get their masts down!"
"I was on their boat and they had so much water they hit second deck! We'll definitely get them next time."
With Safer Sea's ability to properly give players time to learn the blue enemies. When they get to the red? This won't be the like... 5th, 10th, or 15th time they get into a fight with another player. These thoughts will be on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th.

Safer seas will mainly be used by new players and players who just wanna chill and not get into fights. SoT is a dying game and this will bring some back and extend the length new players stick with the game. I've known many that got dumpstered on first day and never picked it back up, Just because you did doesn't mean others will. You may never see these players but they may still get to enjoy the game for some time which is a win in my book. For those wanting pvp. this will increase the chances of the other ships in your server to be the same, your likelihood of coming across noobs, runners and tall talers will be significantly less. As for level caps and commendations. It has no impact on your game so who cares really. I got PL before emissaries which was a grind in itself. having the same but at only 30% gold and rep will be even more of a grind and for a lot of people that'll give them plenty of time to enjoy the game and learn the basics fighting pve so that the jump to high seas they'll at least have some basic skills and can learn the fighting side after without having to learn everything all at once. It probably won't bring me back to the game as I've done most of what it has to offer but if I have a mate that wants to try it. I'll jump on Safer Seas with them to hopefully help them enjoy the game and get used to it before they take the dive into High Seas. Safer is will also be good for casual players who just want a chill time every once in a while, It doesnt mean they'll go to it every time. It doesnt have to be all one or the other

"No one should be made to feel bad about how they choose to enjoy a sandbox game... but in my opinion you shouldn't be able to play and progress the game unless you play how I think it should be played." As a player who pre-ordered in 2018, Safer seas will be a pointless addition. People who don't like PvP, don't feel suddenly more interested just because they can play "a little before going into PvP". Pirate legend never really meant anything. People used to just buy the scrolls to push levels even way back then. The gatekeeping of cosmetic rewards is so bizarre to me. Sea of thieves was an entirely different game in 2018. Forts, skeletons, chickens and PvP. that's all the content there was. Compared to now, that's not even close. There's so much to do and enjoy without ever running into another player. (and most of the time, far more enjoyable than running into another player). Having played for 5 years, It's not a "I wonder what that ship of the horizon is up to". I know what they're up to. They are hostile. They are always hostile and if they aren't immediately hostile, they are waiting for the chance to be. Even if we form an alliance with other players, we warn them up front to take the free cut and stay away or we'll consider them enemies and sink them.

All the problems that people have been saying Safer Seas are "preventing people from learing" aren't being added suddenly. They're being delayed. A player knowing nothing getting sunk on their first time playing might make them uninstall. Safer Seas will allow players to love the game in a new way. Not all the players who play the game will have had the same trials any more. AND THAT'S GOOD. How is more types of players having a way to enjoy the game anything other than a net-positive?

Just like the world toxic people ruin a good thing. Their game is dying because it appeals to all ages but enables the worst. This is simply why EVERY survival game has pve servers, why EVERY pvp mmo has failed. There are not a ton of people who want to constantly be sweaty when playing a video game, no matter how good it is. I can finally play with my loved ones again because they will finally give it a chance again. “No risk” you clearly haven’t run into a kraken and a skele galleon at the same time with a wife and a kid. Hard enough to deal with, then throw in the jerks in the sloop who kill your repairs. It’s a great addition. I missed out on trying to get my family into this game the same way I did. Sure I’m one of the people that got better instead of quitting, but I also was around for beta and the early years, where almost every interaction with people was genuinely fun, going after the hunger, doing the first tall tales with a small fleet! When I got my family to play with me a year ago, we had zero positive interactions with other crews, and then we were angry and sunk a galleon full of kids once… who were asking why we did that after we sunk em and one was crying… i didnt care anymore it was such a horrible experience it soured everything I thought of it before and turned my wife and 9 year old away…

Players are NOT going to stay on the safer seas. The rewards are 70% lower and you do not get to unlock everything. I know of eight different people who quit entirely because they were new players and got spawn camped by assholes without even being able to learn and truly understand the basics of working as a crew. Giving new players a safe space to actually figure out the fundementals while practising their navel combat on skeleton ships is absolutely healtheir for the game, especially with how sweaty a lot of the "old time" players are.

    It's a pvPVE game.
Everyone can play the pve parts, earn gold and reputation without any pvp. On the other hand, you can't earn gold and reputation in pvp without someone playing pve content, because no pve=no treasure.
pvp is just a small part of the game, regardless of what the devs are saying. If it's meant to be a pvp game with a small or almost equal pve part, the devs have missed their own goal. Only 20 percent of the game is pvp (if you look at the companies).

It’s not balanced in its current form but in the opposite way that you think. There’s no reason to have a 70% gold/rep nerf in addition to disabling the use of emissary flags. That’s just plain dumb. They are messing with the formula for how satisfying it feels to sell treasure, to play the game. Rare has no control over whether or not a player enjoys PvP. And the sooner they realize it’s not their job to convert people to be a PvP enjoyer the better off Sea of Thieves will be both in popularity and in revenue generation. L take from you.

Did I gain any bad habits by playing tall tales in safer seas first? Not really. I learned fairly quickly things like not to stay anchored, or to never anchor on a sloop, at the same pace I would have if I jumped right in. I will never like pvp, I'm too anxious for that, but safer seas let me dip my toes in and find other reasons to love the game before having a sloop with a KKK reference grief me until I scuttled to a new sea.

  • @LogicICore
    @LogicICore Год назад +1

My take on the PvE servers is they are not good with the current way they were added. I say this as someone with 10k+ hours, all commendations completed and competed in PvE tournaments and PvP tournaments at the higher level and won both kinds at some point. Also have played since launch.
The main problems: Earning progression and achievements.
Lack of preparation for new players for when they will want to progress past the cap.
Lack of content for the streaming and video making side of the game (which is very important.)
The potential to completely ignore the state of PvP and cheaters if focus falls from the main side of the game.
The first problem: Earning and progression. The only thing in the game and the end goal is earn cosmetics, any way you look at the game and anything you do in it is for cosmetics or ticks commendation boxes and this is inarguable. So therefore the only reason to play the game would be for either the aesthetics or the grinding. But the grinding would have little to no meaning behind it. So the only way to make the main reason to play the game still mean something would be to add pve servers but make it specifically give no gold, commendations, or achievements. This already exists though and it's called private servers but they are locked to where only sea of thieves official partners can host them.
The second problem: The lack or preparation new players will have when they want to progress past the cap. Some argue that the PvE servers are a safe space to help new players learn the game which can then lead them into the "high seas" but this just simply won't be true. The way it works now is new player goes with no experience and sinks to someone who does have a small/medium/or large amount of playtime because they are more experienced then the new player trys to get better/keep trying or they leave. What will happen after the update, new players will go into safe seas get to level 40 and then want to get pirate legend and go the high seas to progress further and then run into someone who has little/medium/ or large amounts of pvp skills and still get ran over and either try again or leave the game. But this time they had some of their time wasted progressing to realize the game wasn't for them and they already capped out for the portion they wanted to play. New players will still lose if they have no pvp experience, this won't change their chances of winning because they never PvPed and just gives them false hope and wastes their time.
The third problem: Lack of content for streaming and the video making side of the game. This is so important i can not stress this enough, no game has ever lived if no one wants to watch it or have fun getting into it. Most of the people i know got into this game because they saw some sort of streamer they liked play it or a RUclipsr they watched make a video on it and it peaked their interests enough to play. The main content for the game is either PvP streamers or content streamers being through interactions or how they they play the game. With the lack of new players in these servers content streamer will only have the interactions with mostly sweaty players or people who wont reciprocate the roleplay because all of those players went to PvE servers to enjoy it more and then the PvP streamers or the people who win most of their fights and stream it and people like to watch that will now run into less boats overall that are carrying loot or a reaction to losing, which kinda sounds scummy but that's what a lot of people enjoy watching. They want to see the other people losing and they watch streamers for that. Without streamers and RUclipsrs any game dies and this will lower the overall content side of the game that people enjoy which is seeing new players and having less sweaty interactions.
The last reason i could think of for now is that the game could completely abandon the idea of the adventure mode of the game and ignore fixing thing in it or ignore the cheating problem. Some people might think that it would be extreme for them to remove adventure but I'm telling you it probably has a chance depending on how the update is liked or disliked. They have done this in the past with removing arena and this is comparable because the reason they removed arena was because it was played by a small percentage of players

I think you are right on the money with some of your points, but with other points regarding safer seas, you couldn't be more wrong.
Tall tales is fine to keep to higher seas, meeting other pirate crews in a pirate world is part of the immersiveness. Do it with a friend eventually. Treasure hunts where other pirate crews wants it too and is willing to kill you for it, pretty realistic in a pirate setting.
I suggested a similar feature on reddit to serve as an extended tutorial, and wrote that it should be time limited to a certain amount of play time. Rare has the technology to do so. 48 hours and then you can't start a session anymore, but you can still be invited to one (if you want to help friend/family/kid learn about the game.)
I also really agree with your thoughts about the change in value on PL and gold, and it's a pattern I see whenever new content/updates comes in Sea of Thieves, the old content gets abandoned, redundant, forgotten, insignificant etc. The content becomes Abandonware.
Pirate Legend should be renamed to something like seeker of fortune which gives access to some of the athenas fortune stuff. While certain conditions should be met before you could get PL
    - 2 of each ship type owned
    - top level in each faction except pvp factions
    - 5 cosmetics of each type where 3 needs to be some that are unlocked by commendations.
The reaper faction should be the thief faction, servants of the flame and reaper faction combined and so forth, piracy means stealing and outside the reaper faction, that is only encouraged through merchant alliance.

Great take! I don't think the concern of people moving from Safer Seas to the High Seas and not understanding things like don't anchor pointed at an island is too big of a concern personally, as new players don't know that anyway and this more or less breaks up the learning curve, learn the game basics first, then player interaction best practices rather than all at once. It took me quite a while to learn some of these things just in adventure anyway. I can't really see players staying in Safer Seas very long personally, other then younger kids, it's just going to be such a grind, but we'll see. If I had younger kids still I would be so hyped for this option to play with them, and move them to the High Seas when they're older!

Exactly. Whenever I teach somebody the game they say that it’s so overwhelming since I have to go over the gameplay mechanics as well as best practices. If they can use these servers to learn how to sail, how quests/world events/sea forts/shrines and treasuries work I’m all for it. Then they can move on and learn how to scan the horizon, check for tucks, repel boarders, hit chain shots, deck shot, and so much more that doesn’t need to be taught day one, but can be frustrating if they don’t know in the high seas and you’re attacked.

It would depend on the players themselves. I've owned the game since it came out and have under 10 hours because I suck at pvp (console, controller) and literally don't like pvp. I'm definitely going to play the game now, and with respect to advancing to pvp, it is a big nope for me. Like another commenter said, he would likely have advanced faster in pve than in pvp, having his stuff taken away constantly. And you are not going to know it takes twice the grind to advance if you don't play the High seas version.

I've played this game for 2 years and I've said all along Rare have not helped players to learn the art of pvp and that's the route of the problem ie you need a degree in science to fire a cannon accurately. It's OK saying oh just jump in the deep end and learn and streamers saying do this and do that but when you are just starting out every crew is sweaty and it is very disheartening for alot of people. As for the toxicity in the game Rare need to make the reporting system easier, have you ever tried reporting someone on an xbox?

I want to call one thing I think you said inaccurately. Yes, you only need to go from 40 to 50 on High Seas to get Pirate Legend, but we all know that those last 10 levels require the equivalent experience of the initial 40. One way of looking at it, is that when you reach 40 you still have 40 more levels to go in each faction!

I'm going to have to stop you there. As a day one, never played before, player I turned off all of my lanterns on my sloop, kept a weary eye on the horizon 90% of the time, never left my ship anchored anywhere and kept the bow pointed to open water. So, what bad habits did I bring to the game? None. I did everything by the book and still haven't accomplished anything because after a long stressful day in the hell that is my life, I don't want to get into a game of all things and still have to be stress out. So no, I don't PVP, and I don't think PVP is the only thing in the world.
I don't want to PVP, I don't care about the PVP, I just get off the game anytime a ship is going out of it's way to come towards me, I have stopped playing the game altogether because no matter how many server jumps I did I was always being attacked and could never get anything done. Everyone crying about SS are the people that tell everyone to stop playing SoT if they just want to chill and not fight every other player in the world. They are so brain dead that NOT wanting to do PVP just does not compute to them. You tell these idiots that you just want to fish and that's it, and they will tell you every time, "If you want to fish then get food at PVP to keep the fish you catch." Everything is 100% one sided with no concern for the other sided. If I have to spend twice as much time fighting to keep my fish as I do fishing then it will take me three times as long to get 1/3 the fish, totally not worth my time. So then I just wont play the game at all and then the idiots cry because the game feels empty.
As I have told dozens of others everything happening to SoT currently is 100% because of you and everything you have done to destroy the game with the notion that PVP is the only thing the game is meant for. There is no point for any of the world events, forts, PVE, none of it, because nobody gets the time to themselves to actually do the events, and if they do get the time then there is guaranteed to be a tucker or a ship on the way to make sure they don't get the reward for doing it. And getting better at fighting isn't the solution because for every person killed there are 3 more on the way to steal. You have to be near god tear to even have a shot of actually being rewarded for anything you do in SoT, and its the people that are or spend all of their time playing that will tell you just to get better. Most of the player base only has a few hours at most a week to get on and try to have fun, and people that never get off the game are the ones ruining everything for them and then have the nerve to tell PVE players that it's their fault they are bad at the game.
SS isn't just to show players how to play the game, many people know how the game works before even buying the game by watching all the RUclips videos out there covering every aspect of SoT, and the maiden voyage lets you figure stuff out from there. No, SS is to finally let EVERYONE play how they want, not just a tiny percentage of the player base playing how they want by not letting anyone else enjoy the game their way. And that's what has all the PVP'ers sweeting bullets. That all the PVE players will be more than happy to stay in SS permanently because they can finally just play the game how they want. PVE'ers don't care about huge amounts of gold, reputation, or cosmetics, we just like to play the game. When I recently came back to SoT in preparation for SS I deleted my character and made a new one, not like I was able to get anything unique unlocked for my character in the first place, I couldn't stay alive long enough to do anything. And if you're that worried about it, it's not like you haven't been spending the last 5 years making the main game a living hell for hundreds of thousands of players around the world, giving them no reason to ever want to be in High Seas ever again, right? Right? Oh wait! You absolutely have. Again, making the reason SS even needs to be a thing in the first place 100% your fault. Rare wants new players buying the game and playing long enough to buy cosmetics, and all any of the PVPers have been doing is making everyone return the game within a week of purchase.
