I see why the episode was scrapped originally, but it ended up being a really fun watch. Realistically, this is how a lot of commander games go. Jesse is always a pleasure. I love her sense of humor.
This might just be my favorite episode of magic gameplay. The editor struggling to keep Jesse's commander centered, the info bubbles, and general vibe of this episode are top notch.
Cap, this episode felt so dead... normally they are a lot more alive and talkative (by making jokes). Maybe its the odd combination of people for the first time that equates to such a dry show or its that "contract" that needed to be signed due to Jesse. I truly believe that you're lying.
@@TeamToooBananasseems to me that there’s a lot less dead air edited out in this so the “pace” is a bit slower - makes it feel less high energy. Also lots of fiddly decks on top of that.
So Michael was playing a Day-Night deck with about a million different graveyard triggers and Jesse was playing a storm focused deck where every spell played triggers a million different things. I'd be more amazed if things DIDN'T go wrong. I can't really be too critical though. There was a lot going on, especially in those final turns. Jesse in particular was looking like she was getting self conscious about how long her turn was taking which coaxed her to rush, and the best way to misplay an open-ended combo and/or storm deck is to rush.
Prof saving Jesse's board and then immediately dying to it is quite sad. Though it would be sadder if he hadn't talked about how he was going to betray her before and after his defeat.
After this one goes up, you're gonna have to give us that misplay game with One More Mana! Hopefully you still have the footage of it, because even if a game goes awry (or so out of whack that no one can keep up!) those guys really know how to have fun!
@@TolarianCommunityCollege Ahhh, I had a hunch that this was one and the other was that one. You spoil us like expired milk on a hot summer day, Prof! Thanks for an early Christmas present (of sorts!...)🤙❤
This commander game felt the closest to every game I ever player. Threat assessment, misplays, everyone just focused on its own board. forgetting it's own triggers and so on and on :D
The graveyard played by itself while Celestus, Forgotten ancient and the day/night cycle were forgotten. Plus, storm player missed lethal twice. GGs indeed
The absolute chaos, the casual misplays, and the editor bringing us all the info-blurbs has me reminded of first learning Commander. The days of everyone learning together what cards do and coming up with fun synergies.
Man, I went to fnm at my lgs earlier this year to play some modern, and the guy I was playing against took out an unsleeved deck and proceeded to riffle shuffle it. I figured, okay, he's probably just playing a cheap deck like I am. And hoo boy was I wrong, in the five turns that game took he managed to play at least $200 worth of cards
I hope many are saying this, but I LOVED THE POP-UPS! I liked the factoids as well as the acknowledgement of misplays using them. It honestly felt like the most TCC gameplay video ever because you were learning whilst enjoying!
18 minutes in and 2 Celestus triggers have been missed (2 life and possibly 2 loot), misplays not even acknowledged by the editor Edit: my bad they just noticed 😂
As someone who mainly plays (weird) Selesnya tribal combo decks, and Dimir investigate/general token spam nonsense, I will now always imagine these bubbles of shame popping up while I play commander, as to avoid future instances of missed triggers or fudged numbers. Thankyou Professor, and the associated faculty of Tolarian Community College!
Honestly, thank you for uploading this. It's important for players to not only see perfect flawless gameplay online. Everyone makes mistakes and it's great to see a content creator owning it
I already love this! After a year of playing magic I am still confused a lot of the weird rules and sequencing.. To see much more experienced players also struggle with that just shows how complicated the game can be and frankly is sort of a reassurance.. And even though there is the occasional misplay, it does not take away one bit from the fun! Keep it going like this!
Yeah i've been playing for 10 years, even i struggle to keep up with triggers sometimes. i decked myself yesterday through not noticing a mandatory draw trigger.
I always love episodes with Jesse! Really enjoyed seeing her play this format. Serious props to the editor of this video, as well! Keeping track of all the misplays, actual life totals, ongoing Storm count, and floating mana would be hard enough in a normal video, but with the amount of accidental errors in this game, it's even more impressive. It really went a long way to making what was frankly an extremely overwhelming endgame somewhat comprehensible. The other info blurbs were also great and appreciated as well! I completely understand if they are too time consuming to add regularly to every episode, but it would be really cool they started becoming more commonplace.
This has absolutely been my favourite episode of Shuffle Up and Play. The little info tid bits were so funny and some of them like the dramatic irony one were so clever and tongue in cheek. I properly belly laughed at the post game interviews when the Professor just had his head in his hand while Jesse talks real nonchalantly about how the partnership was temporary. Please do more misplay episodes, it would be such a shame for your hard work to go to waste and I think a lot of us enjoy this show for the real time, authentic banter too. Not saying the production value isn't good, but the "At home' vibe is just so chill to watch
Love seeing the "pros" make misplays like I do... Makes me feel a little better that I'm not the only one. Also love the old-school VH1/MTV popups randomly throughout
Loved to see this. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing the mistakes put in the episodes more often as it shows how easy it is to misunderstand cards sometimes even for the most experienced players. The pop-ups were also a fantastic addition 😁
PLEASE, release more of those if they ever happen! I reckon it's probably very taxing for the editors and judges to review all the footage, so probably not regularly releases, but still! The episode with Spice8 where you traded decks and this one are the BEST ones so far

Having played a number of games where we all played a precon for the first time without familiarising ourselves with the cards in them, I think that might be the main culprit for all of the various missed triggers, etc that occurred
