Interesting question. When I was in the Air Force they had a system on repairs, don't know how they came up with it, wherein they would spend a certain amount on repairs, and that was it. Not even an additional $5.
@@lechandler4041 Government budgeting practices led to a lot of policies like that. The logic doesn't strictly apply to a private owner because the overriding need to set larger (or at least not smaller) budgets on purpose doesn't apply. A Navy mechanic has a video on here about putting in requisitions for tools to keep F-18s flying and being turned down because the left over money at end of FY was going to be spent on a flat screen TV system for the mess room instead of nickel and dime hand tools like wrenches that didn't add up to enough to fully consume their allotted budget. Any money not spent is deducted from the next FY budget for that department. I know a guy who used to build and set up big box warehouse stores all over and his employer had a similar use-it-all budget approach. Follow the depreciation tables set out by the bean counters then toss stuff away and buy new ones even if the old ones were still perfectly good. If you're happy with what you'll have for the incremental cost then it's still a good deal. The money-pit argument against repairing a broken machine is always a judgement call best made by the guy who has owned it and worked on it directly.
If you pull the fuel kill knob or use the throttle to kill the fuel for a second when starting those John deere tractors it will not make all that smoke when you start them. Welker Farms Inc in western NC the state used to spray burnt motor oil on our “dirt gravel” roads. But i am pretty sure the epa stopped that, anyway it’s no longer a practice here. There were never any harmful effects on the environment when that practice was used here.
I mean, has anyone not seen how an asphalt road is made? Sucks to lose oil out on the road like that but it's not the end of the world like some zoomers like to pretend is going to happen.
About 8 years ago they sprayed old oil on the unmanned airfields to keep grass from growing and maybe easier to spot in drought seasons for emergency landings. 2 years ago when we went there in the rain season, there was no sign of a runway. It was totally overgrown with grass. I agree, oil does not permanently damage the soil. Maybe for a year or 5. Keep up the good work Welker Farms. We are also farmers in Namibia. Mostly livestock like cattle, sheep and goats. Very interesting to see how a different type of farming is being done.
Glad you scored the parts. Not much of a decision. A. You already got your money out of the original rebuild to get it going the 1st time B. $5k to have another term of use of a 644 is a great deal
Over the years I have worked and worked on a lot CAT equipment. You can't go wrong with good used CAT loader. I think a 988 CAT loader will do anything on your farm and then some. Good luck getting your loader back up and running. I hope it lasts for many years to come for you.
I think the 994H is to big to fit inside their shop if they need too. If they are searching for loader, it would be better a Komats'u WA380, Cat 980C, Volvo L180, Terex 72-61.
@@danielmurcela7235, judging from your name, you are experienced with heavy equipment. Which one would you want? Volvo does have some nice stuff. I look at things as how easy/difficult to work on when problems arise.
@@leebob86 I think the Volvo L180 is the best one in my opion. The Komats'u wastes a lot of fuel same as the Cat 980, maybe more. The Terex is older then all of this other machines, and if I remember well it has a Detroit Diesel, realy good engine. But if some problem happens whit this machine, it will be more dificult to find pieces, because it is realy old. Now the Volvo, I think wastes a bit less then the Cat and the Komats'u, and its a good machine. But If Welkers can find what they need for a good price, I would say that is the best option.
Yeah it would be neat to see it run again I thought it was pretty cool to see it running at all last time I seen one of those in use in my area it had forks on it and they were picking up stacks of ten cars in a junkyard
Stuff breaks! More than luckily this has happened before with this setup. Universal joints next to three hydraulic pumps, really poor engineering! Good luck guys I am sure you will find less expensive way to replace or repair those pumps. Colby loves to run! 🐕🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
The reason the Deere starts like that is the injection pump rack goes full fuel and floods the engine at start up. It then pulls back when the oil pressure builds up in the pump. You can pull the fuel shut off out at start up and slowly push it in as you crank it. Won't smoke and rev up and done right make a smooth start.
If you have to move it with no steering again try joining 2 hydraulic lines from another tractor to the loaders steering. You can then just steer it with the tractors hydraulics. It works well as we have to do it with our telehander. Cheers all love the videos

South Sask Farmer it come from several thousand feet under and wasn’t refined. Oil Thr surface will contaminate surface and ground water plus prevent growth.
If he used a low boy or something like that to return the beast to the farm, he would have avoided to spill more oil than necessary. I hope he replaces the soil on the field where the break down happened. But in my opinion americans dont care much about environmental pollution. Why else would they keep their vehicles running all the time with no real reason?
Hey one thing we have done at the shop to steer anything mid articulated equipment when dead even works with anything hydraulic steering but thought you guys might be interested in making since you have afew big items, but we made long hoses to run to the scv of the tow tractor to steer with a scv and just used a very common fitting on the hose then you can adapt to the steering cylinders I know doesn't help for this failure but my help in the future just to have hanging on the wall

Oil is all mineral and pretty soon it is fertilizer. So it won't hurt the soil in the long run.
Definitely true and it was on the county road which is funny as sometimes they spray oil on the roads for chip sealing and dust reduction.
Should try to fit a tilt cylinder to the cab like the buds or a cab over truck to be able to get in there and check unis easier
its a shame but if part are to expensive maybe its time for 944 at least leg arms is back hes the best man for the job god bless take care welkers
721g case loader
I’d say a cat 988F
Glad you scored the parts.
Not much of a decision.
A. You already got your money out of the original rebuild to get it going the 1st time
B. $5k to have another term of use of a 644 is a great deal
Get Zach to poke the Deere and say "are you okay???" that works for him
Over the years I have worked and worked on a lot CAT equipment. You can't go wrong with good used CAT loader. I think a 988 CAT loader will do anything on your farm and then some. Good luck getting your loader back up and running. I hope it lasts for many years to come for you.
I’m mean a Cat 994H would work? They have some nice deals rite now !!!
@@danielmurcela7235, thank you for sharing your expertise. Terex, I remember climbing up in a Titan in Billings MT when I was a little tyke.
@@leebob86 I dont concider my self an expert, but I am just happy to trying to help.
And I am sorry for my bad Inglish, it isnt my main language.
Legarms saves the day....So glad you are back from your sojourn.
We now have a name for the loader:
Nearly Headless Nick.
Loadeere
Yeah it would be neat to see it run again I thought it was pretty cool to see it running at all last time I seen one of those in use in my area it had forks on it and they were picking up stacks of ten cars in a junkyard
General gear mountain home Idaho he's got stuff for days
A Case towing and pushing a Deere. Sound about right 😁. Great video and thanks.
Get a hold of Warren Western truck and tractor repair I'll bet he can tell you where to look for parts
Stuff breaks! More than luckily this has happened before with this setup. Universal joints next to three hydraulic pumps, really poor engineering! Good luck guys I am sure you will find less expensive way to replace or repair those pumps. Colby loves to run! 🐕🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
Oh no!!! Not the front loader!!!
They're not loaded anymore ! 😡
You guys make me smile . Best youtubers ever
We are gonna make a model truck that looks like the international u guys have
That would be sick!
COOL 👍
The reason the Deere starts like that is the injection pump rack goes full fuel and floods the engine at start up. It then pulls back when the oil pressure builds up in the pump. You can pull the fuel shut off out at start up and slowly push it in as you crank it. Won't smoke and rev up and done right make a smooth start.
bright side didnt happen in the middle of wheat pile
Silos with cones don’t need expensive loaders to shift grain. Silos with cones very rarely break down.👍🇦🇺
Only if the red one broke down
If you have to move it with no steering again try joining 2 hydraulic lines from another tractor to the loaders steering. You can then just steer it with the tractors hydraulics. It works well as we have to do it with our telehander. Cheers all love the videos
Can’t keep a good puppy down
He just wants to run
He looking for dad
rennie meek very interesting point there
Makes me happy hearing him speaking, let me off so I can run, run, run all the way home.
You guys are amazing. You have a great deal of technical savvy. Enjoy your videos, and look forward to the lake house also.
Now if only you had some sort of big machine, like a big tractor to pull that loader home...
Something big and maybe white in color
@@hd1987hd They winterproofed the buds already
You should have a "Tech Time with LegArms segment" in your videos. LOL Scott would be one heck of a shop teacher! Couldn't you hear him say "The book says this is how to fix it but this is how we are going to fix it." LOL Hay "Brian's Farming videos" is getting close to 100k Sub's if you could help push him over before the new year that would "ROCK!" Love, Peace and God's Grace and the force be with you!
"we dont want flat welkers" lol
sell it to a fan
Ugh.. that's the worst when something breaks bad..just deflates you. But it works out in the end.
Mehhhh,,,, probably cheaper to fix it then replace the machine! I bet you can find the parts for it. I’d think about building something to protect those pumps, try to keep it from
Happening again 😁
as a powerline worker it's pretty cool to see an old Digger Derrick being used as a service truck. works out great.
"Caps leaking...oh well." - most farmers
Sorry for the issues but great job videoing after dark. Things don't always happen on a clear sunny day. I am sure you guys will conquer this one.
Leg arms deserves a 980 cat :)
Awesome video...hope you can get that beast back in commission without costing an "arm and a leg"...All the best! Love the channel...
Might be a good reason to get sponsored for a CASE G series loader... Get rid of the last of the "Green" on the farm.
Funny this is uploaded today. Blew the carrier bearing in my gmc one ton last night good thing I was going slow and pulling into a parking lot. Removed back half of the driveshaft and was front wheel drive the rest of the night.
No hydraulics no turning on an articulating vehicle. You'd need to disconnect the steering cylinders. But be careful they could be pressurized. 😏
What a bummer...
Just imagine how costly it would be if you did not have the abilities that you have to do the work yourselves. You guys always amaze me with your unlimited skill sets with machinery. God Bless and stay safe.
If it came from the earth it can return to the earth. No need to worry about oil.
South Sask Farmer it come from several thousand feet under and wasn’t refined. Oil Thr surface will contaminate surface and ground water plus prevent growth.
@@FishFind3000 4 days later you wont even know it was there
Unless the oil is on concrete then it will be there a while
@@lukebecker1959 fair enough lmao
There is no ground water beneath
Good luck on the repair guys if anyone can repair it it's the Welker team 💪👍👍
Oil comes out of the ground your just returning it home
If he used a low boy or something like that to return the beast to the farm, he would have avoided to spill more oil than necessary. I hope he replaces the soil on the field where the break down happened. But in my opinion americans dont care much about environmental pollution. Why else would they keep their vehicles running all the time with no real reason?
Great video guys! Looks like a big bill coming your way Legarms will getter done keep videos coming !
Nick! Do a 300k livestream? 😊
Hook onto the loader with your Big Bud and DRAG it in. :-) The fun never stops when you're down on the farm. Cheers...
RIP Deere
Leave a like for the old wheel loader!!
The grain vac is quite a tool! Saves a lot of sore backs and scoop shovel time.
That dog put the biggest smile on my face! :) Love the videos guys, maybe the deere just needs some red paint..
Might check with Surplus Center Lincoln Nebraska for replacement pumps.
My father runs a construction company and cats are by far the Cadillac of loaders. The 980 cat would be an awesome addition to the welker operations!!
Actually in a Bosch pump it's a vacuum valve in side. So until it builds enough vacuum the fuel racks stay wide open
Yep they do. Lol
@@straightpipeacres6365 almost like I've been around a few of them lmao
@@SouthSaskFarmer1 hahaha no kidding eh
Leaf blower to move grain! Heck of an idea and so much easier than scoop shovels!
Merry Christmas and blessings of the season Weller farm!
Good ole Grandpa Gus.
Hello I am Brazilian and I watch your videos, although I don't understand your language I really like your channel
congratulations for your work :)
