had an 883 sportster in 1997. then a 1200 sport (twin plug). my wife & i got a pair of m2 cyclones with california superbike school @ laguna seca. we like to ride fast. both have battle trax trophies. momma passed in 2021 of cancer. so alone at 66 years old i found a x12x and bought it. it is so cool to smoke these kids on their sport bikes and pull off my helmet with glory and all my grey hair!! thank you eric

They are phenomenal bikes, especially in the mountains. I had this same year/model. Mine had the race only titanium TOI Force exhaust system on it. Sounded way better. Made almost 10 more horse too.

They're inexpensive too. The XB12 comes in a S, X, &. XT. Look at bikes like the Yamaha Tracer 9 & you can see how much styling they took from those Buells. They're very raw bikes but lots of fun on e you get used to the short wheel base. If you find an XB12xt the bags come off really easy & you can make it several kinds of bikes with very little work. Good luck & enjoy.

I just bought a 2006 buell xb12s for $100 bucks, and boy, it's a blast. 500 for registration, needs a new belt, and a new tank cover, and it'll be fully complete. I got the orange translucent one

Congrats and welcome to the cult...I mean club! I have an XB9SX that I rebuilt recently. Love these bikes and they deserve more attention. Iconic IMO.

My dad had a buell blast 500 when I was a teenager and I used to take it out when he wasn’t home. I became obsessed with buell and the xb12s is a dream bike! Got a street triple right now but xb12s will definitely be the first to the collection

Fun fact. These were originally supposed to be turbocharged and at some point they killed that idea. The first model year or two even have the passthrough on the left side of the frame that was intended for the piping. I always wanted an xb. Was mad at Harley for a long time for killing off the buells.

Pumped to see new buell stuff. I have an xb12 and it’s a perfect machine with soul.
He chose to use a belt drive because he didn’t want the geometry changed to the rear wheel.

I LOVE my 99 carbon x1. big bore kit for 1280cc and a little more giggle power. wheelies in 1 and 2nd gear almost with out asking but not scary. aside from the oddities of the xb bikes, its essentially the same bike as this to ride. 2 big analog gauges typical nake bike riding position super short wheel base and just a ton of fun. i got mine for stupid cheap all in all i got about 2k into mine and its in mint shape 16k miles.
if you can work on your own bike, go buy one of these they are extremely cheap cause all the pansies are scared of them since shops dont like to work on them.

A pop in the intake at the very beginning is not a bug. I have the same one on my xb12xt 2008. At the same time, the motorcycle can stumble sharply, as it were. I almost fell while making slow maneuvers

      I actually fixed it.
Added some acceleration enrichment. Problem solved.

I know these have different injectors than my 99x1. but those are both lean spots and i wonder if you dont just have the beginnings of a dirty injector symptom. you should have them cleaned just in case over the off season. i bought myself a second set so I can send out the originals to be cleaned and flow tested w/o haveing to be without my baby to ride.

I have an XB12XX Ulysses Adventure Tourer that I've stripped back to try and emulate the look of the Lightning. 2007 one owner with only 12k on the clock. Factory fitted Race ECM, K&N Filter,Stainless Sports exhaust, The very uncommon Valencia Orange colour scheme which has the transparent airbox. Mine has the same induction pop as well. It's an absolute blast to ride.
They're a bit of a Unicorn these days...I love it

Now the younger generation loves big torque, low hp Buell would still be with Harley. V-twins have so much character when they rev higher. Buell is a Hell of an engineer. Sportbike guys just dominated the streets and market during that time period. It was when race reps came out for the public and they were cheaper and more exhilarating. Buell was ahead of his time. Sucks.

@@strongspeedworks speed sensor went bad, rear caliper seized, drive belt shredded. new wheel bearings, I suggest getting a EBR finned front rotor and hardware kit, and clean the pistons in front caliper, so far the engine is solid though

i LOVE mine( 99 x1 ) but be ready to do all the work to it yourself cause shops dont want to touch them. and some parts are hard to find. but not impossible.
the big problem i have with recommending this as a first bike is all the torque at very low rpm. it can get away from you if your not a little seasoned unless you are responsible with the throttle. everyones different so thats impossible to say but my advice is start out on a 400 anything like i did. plenty of power to feel fast for a while and you can resell it for what you paid for it probably as long as you buy a used 10 year old bike. but you wont get the sound anywhere else except a cruiser style bike.
