  • Over the last 2 decades, many characters have joined Leia to represent other demographics in the Star Wars universe. Regardless of what I think of these characters individually, I wanted to highlight some of the most prominent examples in the Canon story and express my appreciation for what has been done so far.
    This is not a ranking list of my favorites, nor is it meant to be comprehensive. It's just a list of 12 characters that I wanted to talk a bit about. Feel free to discuss these and whichever others you'd like to down in the comments, but please be civil.

    I have a film I would love to have you see to understand the talent of Fiona Shaw, that being "Mountains of the Moon". The film also features a very young Iain Glen (Ser Jorah Mormont from GoT) and Patrick Bergin before he fell off the map. That would give you insight into her range and power, plus the matter that she actually looks almost exactly like the historical character she portrays. It's also a great story that is mostly true.
    You really love storytelling and the power it has to show the audience itself. I watch a fair number of RUclips content creators, but you really look at the characters and the worlds they inhabit to find the unique dynamic that is making them compelling. You eschew the popular opinion but don't go down the contrarian's path, which makes you come across as sincere vs. opinionated.
    I wish I could boost the signal for this channel. You're enough to get me to consider activating my defunct Facebook account to tell people about it. Simply put, you are never a waste of my time. Thank you, Stephen.

      That's very kind of you. I'll keep that film in mind (big fan of Iain Glen).

      @@stephenjarvis534 The film concerns the early exploits of Sir Richard Francis Burton and his discovery of the source of the Nile with John Hanning Speke. Fiona Shaw plays Burton's fiancee and eventual wife. Her performance is a delight. Very underrated actress.

    I think introducing Ahsoka in the beginning of the Clone Wars was a great move. She's a narrative vessel through whose eyes we see the development of the war (much like Luke was in the OT). Yes, she was a bit annoying at first as a lousy kid but the idea of her inclusion alone was quite good. Especially in the later seasons, where, as you mentioned, we see how this kid, raised by war, needs to handle Order 66. Quite tragic really but makes Ahsoka's character ever more compelling.
    Great video, nonetheless!

      I came around eventually, and while she's still not a personal favorite of mine, she's a great character. Maybe a bit overused, but great nonetheless.

      @@stephenjarvis534 Fair. It seems like many of the Dave Filono favourites are a bit overused now. Ahsoka, Maul, Boba Fett. They're all great characters imo but it's been a bit too much of them recently.

    You have big balls to dip your toes into the cess pool of this fanbase. I love it! 😂

    thanks for making this video. There is a lot of negativity our there and it is nice to see a video that takes time to appreciate and outline good aspects of star wars such as these women characters. As an aside I really enjoyed the Ahsoka show especially how many strong women characters there were in the first season

    Jyn Urso would have been a good character to cover since she is the the central character of a star wars movie. What went into your decision to not cover her?

    • @stephenjarvis534
      @stephenjarvis534  Год назад +5

      She was absolutely worthy of being discussed here, and I initially wrote something with her, but I tried to pare down this list to characters that spoke to me (I started out with about 25 different characters). Jyn is fine, but her character never really connected with me on a personal level.

    Lol, Rey has not enriched the Star Wars universe. And then you only give a mention to the Legends women. Ok buddy.

      It's fine if you don't agree, but I wanted to highlight the more recent creations and if I'm being honest with myself, Rey had to be included. Not just for her prominence, but because she's a character that really resonated with me. I'm an ardent Sequel Trilogy apologist, and no, I don't love everything about them (especially Episode 9), but I really love what Daisy did for that part and I can't wait to see her again.
      Keep up the work on your channel, buddy.

    I love how much you trashed Ashoka. She's such an awful character and a total Mary Sue/creator's pet that no real fan will ever consider canon.

    • @stephenjarvis534
      @stephenjarvis534  11 месяцев назад +5

      Nope, that was not my intention. I just never connected with the character in the same way that others did until much later (I even called her fascinating in the video). It is not for anyone to decide who is a "real fan" based on who they like or dislike. I'm of the opinion that regardless of my views on a canon character, they have been placed into the official story, and I can not simply choose to "write them out."

      @@stephenjarvis534 regardless, she's a horribly written and incredibly uninteresting character that ruins the story and that basically everyone despises.
