Hi, and welcome to my channel. Primarily, this is a place for me to upload my projects, which help me to refine my video editing skills and actually do some sound design in my spare time. The focus is mostly James Bond content, but I'll upload videos on whatever I want to talk about from pop culture in between those. Feel free to suggest topics.
Review of Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) - The Commonplace Herald
Pierce Brosnan's second turn as 007 had a number of things working against it, not the least being the expectations of a delighted fanbase and studio coming off the towering success that was GoldenEye. Tackling a media mogul who manipulates world events in his favor, featuring many future stars and some breathtaking action sequences, you'd think this would be more fondly remembered. But I guess 1997's cinema was lost at sea, adrift. Strange that there were two films released in December that featured that as a central plot element.

Review of GoldenEye (1995) - The Fearless Rejuvenation

Pierce Brosnan gets his chance to make his mark on James Bond, and to be honest, it feels effortless. But does the movie that defined a generation's interest in the character (unless you count the N64 game) still hold up almost 30 years later....? Pretty much, yeah. Filled with great action, a stellar cast, and an incredible push forward, this is one of the most important Bond films ever made, ...
Review of Licence to Kill (1989) - The Personal Vendetta

All too soon, we finish Timothy Dalton's era with perhaps the most unique film in the series, complete with violence, swearing, gore and the most flawed depiction of 007 we've seen up to this point in this series. As you can imagine, it's an incredibly divisive film, partly by design. Is a film that's trying to hard to match the success of other hard action films of the 1980s, or is there a pea...
Review of The Living Daylights (1987) - The Resolute Reformation

We now step into the late 80s Bond era, with Timothy Dalton taking the mantle for a short time. The complete opposite of Roger Moore, Dalton wished for a more serious take on the Fleming character, couched in a pragmatic story and with a tone to match. Turns out, that's exactly what the filmmakers wanted to do as well. Over time, the Dalton films have become overlooked with the general public, ...
Review of A View to A Kill (1985) - The Familiar Appendix

12 years and 7 films is a good stretch by anyone's measurement. With this final chance to cement his legacy, Roger Moore goes head to head with Christopher Walken and Grace Jones in one of the craziest films in the series, covering the globe from Russia to France to California and preventing a manmade natural disaster worthy of mythology. But the question remains: is it a good end to Moore's ti...
Review of Never Say Never Again (1983) - The Lone Rogue

1983 was the year of the duel between the titans of James Bond: Sean Connery and Roger Moore. For Connery's seventh outing, we have a different production team, a more low-key adventure, the return of SPECTRE, a fine cast, a new version of one of the most iconic 007 stories, accompanied by a unique score, and directed by the man who brought us one of the greatest films ever made. Is Kevin McClo...

1983 was the year of the duel between the titans of James Bond: Sean Connery and Roger Moore. For Moore's sixth outing, we have girls, gadgets, villains, great stunts, and a charming leading man, accompanied with a great John Barry score and directed by the man who brought us the previous film. Yeah, we've seen all of this before, but is the EON version of these elements enough to triumph over ...
Review of For Your Eyes Only (1981) - The Fundamental Reexamination
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.2 месяца назад
Roger Moore returns for his fifth consecutive adventure and it's the most unique of his films yet. From the touching opening to the thrilling finish, For Your Eyes Only makes a case for bigger not always being better. It's far more low key and slower than some of the previous films, and depending on who you are, that's either good or bad news. The only way to know for certain is to view it with...
Gears of War Ranked

Taking a break from my usual content, I felt inspired to run through the Gears of War series again and I think I've finally settled on where I land with each of the 6 mainline shooters. Gears of War was a staple of my high school days, and I have a lot of fondness for its particular flavor of gameplay, violence and storytelling. After 3, I dropped out of the series for a while and came back to ...
Review of Moonraker (1979) - The Exorbitant Echo

James Bond in space seems like an irresistible idea for filmmakers in the late 1970s, and hey, there's a book left with Moon in the title and dealt with rockets, so maybe this was a match made in heaven. Retaining most of the same people that just made the phenomenal predecessor, they went all out to make this the biggest Bond of them all. Was the scale coupled with the old formula enough, or d...
Review of The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) - The Sophomore Slump

One of the first Bond films I ever saw, it holds a special place for me. But should nostalgia blind me to some of its lesser qualities, or does it genuinely hold up as one of Roger Moore's finest hours, as well as having some of the best villains in the series? Review of Live and Let Die (1973) - The Creative Remix

We now move onto Sir Roger Moore's era of James Bond, beginning an astonishing seven consecutive film run and redefining the series for a generation. Live and Let Die is certainly one of the more popular films of his (and everyone remembers its title song), but was it the right foot to start out on, or was a step in the wrong direction? Review of Diamonds Are Forever (1971) - The Safe Bet

After On Her Majesty's Secret Service failed to make the splash with audiences that was hoped for, the Bond filmmakers were left trying to figure out what to do next. United Artists figured the issue was not having Sean Connery in the lead role, and so raided their wallets to find the cash to get him to come back for one more adventure. Was that truly the problem, and is Diamonds Are Forever th...

I disagree on Craig's performance in Spectre, I think it's his best performance by far. He's so charming and charismatic
Could anyone be like James Bond OO7 in real life ???
I like Ursula Andress nd Carole Bouquet.
Great review. Certainly Goldeneye was a phenomenon. I know you mentioned it on the best theme songs post about the belter of tune from Tina Turner. That it was not integrated into the soundtrack proper was a disappointment. The Serra soundtrack is not even one of his best though it has some charms. Definitely the N64 game helped in many aspects and a lot of people who were playing the game later became fans of the series. I had already been watching Bond for over 10 years at this point. I had mixed feelings about the movie at the time liking 006 and Zenia and some action but still finding too many Brits and Western Euro actors putting on hammy Russian accents. Minnie Driver was the worst. Cummings too played too cartoonish for me. Dench was not quite as good as she would get in later movies. Finally I found some of the model work and the CGI a bit naff. Earlier much preferred TND and pre DAD Goldeneye was near the bottom for me. I have re examined the entire Brosnan era and while it is still not my favorite GE has risen in my opinion and now I prefer it to TND but still below TWINE.
What tools or software do you recommend for editing videos like this?
@cdunne11 I use Adobe Premiere Pro, recording the audio in Logic Pro, and doing most of the titles of more recent videos in After Effects. Honestly though, this is one of the simpler videos, so you could make something like this using iMovie for the editing and Audacity for the audio recording with a bit of practice.
So, you are the EXPERT on James Bond films eh? Opinionated ameteur. You missed one important fact with this list: Basically, with Daniel Craig, James Bond was rebooted from the first story - Casino Royale, so therefore the Daniel Craig films should be completely in a seperate category. There are James Bond films before Daniel Craig and James Bond films with Daniel Craig. As for including the Sean Connery 1983 film and the David Niven film was pointless because no REAL Bond fan even considers them as REAL Bond films.
We all know Miss Moneypenny is the one true Bond girl....
Diana rigg is the best Bond girl
If you've ever read the novels, the only two actors that ever should have played Felix are Owen Wilson or Matthew McConaughey But I'm from Austin Texas so when I read the Felix Slater character I know exactly what Fleming was talking about and those two actors are from austin. They are the two best Felix's that never played Felix
Specter really could have been one of the best..... The return of specter the return of blofeld..... And the actor they chose to play blofeld Christopher waltz is absolutely a perfect choice.... The problem is they tried to make a balance of funny Rodger Moore gags with the seriousness of the Daniel Craig era era.... And they didn't pull it off well..... Christopher waltz as blofeld was and could have been so much more
Paris Carver should have been Sylvia trench.... That would have really made it good
Live and let die by wings is head and shoulders the best if anyone disagrees there obviously not bond fans from the start I don't agree with your choice your obviously under 20 years old
Solid list, I have no problems with anything if you can defend it (which you did). I agree with a lot of your points and I'm certainly happy to see DAF so high on a list.
Loved this movie, soundtrack and fellow characters!
I stopped watching bond films after Craig
@@garylyons3036 So did I, but that's only because he died in the last film. ;) Just poking a little fun at your ambiguity.
39:20 she is number one for me. The most important women in Bond's life and the one who got to him in a good hearted way.
37:20 well deserved. Izabel Scuruppco was wonderful. Such a shame that she left the acting scene prematurely.
36:15 I would swap Pussy Galore for Pam Bouvier. Pam was integral and a better Bond women than Pussy.
I think the look of love would have made a great proper bond movie song. Not everything has to be so literal. And give me a break about Goldfinger only appealing to older audience. Ridiculous, it's top 3 no matter how old you are!
34:05 I dont remember which one 😂😂😂. But in all seriousness, Maud Adams and Sir Roger had great chemistry.
29:34 I thought Lois Chilles' Holly Goodhead was a stark improvement from Barbara Bach's Anya Amasova
26:03 the devastation of Bond losing and feeling betrayed by Vesper would have been undermined if he just picked up a romantic relationship with Camille. Would not have made any sense and I am glad Olga Kurylenko was given something unique. A good thing about Quantum of Solace I guess
23:44 Melina Havelock and Holly Goodhead should be above Tiffany Case. The way her character did a whole 180 degrees in Diamonds Are Forever is laughable at times.
15:45 no you should not. Just because you are the first, does not mean you are automatically the best. Better Bond women came after Ursula Andress' Honey Ryder.
14:04 I cant believe they used the "We Have All the Time In The World" instrumental for Madeleine Swan and Bond's relationship. Its not the same as Tracy Di Vicenzo and Bond.
10:15 you didn"t see LA Confidential?
2:08 shivers. Excellent choice of If There Was A Man from the Pretenders as the intro song.
no time to die over quantum of solace and skyfall.honestly have some dignity

Octopussy is my favourite Bond Girl. I think she gets overlooked in rankings because you don’t find the movie near the top of most ranking lists.
Licence to Kill is in my top five Bond films. But the problem I have with the Bond series is the time between the few narratively important Bond films and its impact on continuity. LTK would have had so much more impact if made closer to Live and Let Die and On Her Majesty's Secret Service. The former because of David Hedison's appearance and some of the few jokes made in LTK reference jokes made about Leiter in LALD. But of course the most important storyline that LTK connects with is in OHMSS, which was released two decades earlier. There is a great parallel between the death of Della and Tracy, both who were murdered in their wedding dresses. What happened to Bond also happened to his best friend Felix, which only becomes clear if you're familiar with the series. But as a casual viewer you have no frame of reference, and the moment Bond finds Della in her wedding dress is less impactful as a result. LTK, in many ways, is Richard Maibaum's revenge also. He wanted Diamonds Are Forever to be a revenge film with Bond going through different stages of grief, but the idea was rejected by Cubby Broccoli. It was a bad time for Maibaum, who had to play second to new kid, Tom Mankiewicz. Most people dismiss Maibaum's revenge idea focusing on the fact that early drafts of the revenge story were not so great. But if you read many early drafts by Maibaum this appears to be part of his process. Get the bad ideas out before the truly great ideas come.
If people starts complaining, they first should watch at least "5 James Bond lists"😄. Its so fun to see how all of the list differes so much.
It's a great popcorn movie with some of the best stunts of any Bond film the clown scene is tense and exiting
Yes, casual but enthusiastic is a great description. Same here
I enjoyed it! No it was not bland!
There always needs to be 'that one' guy who disagrees and this time it's me. I prefer Sheryl Crow's song over 'Surrender'.
Brilliant run through and I agree with you 100% I really enjoy this. Brosnan is class, the action scenes are fantastic (BMW Chase a highlight and Brosnan's flourishes during that are so much fun). Looks and sounds great too!
God66
Tomorrow Never Dies is a rather underrated Bond film, and a perfect comfort film. Brosnan is great, Michelle Yeoh is good, Johnathan Pryce hams up the villain role perfectly, M, Q & Moneypenny get great little moments, and the film shows off David Arnold's composing talent well (Backseat Driver is my favourite and the car chase it plays over is one of my favourite action scenes in the series). I'm also a big fan of the Sheryl Crow title song, and I'm glad it chosen.
9:30 the Chinese government know where the boat is because their MiGs had accurate GPS signals - Carver was only spoofing the location for the Devonshire. I do agree she came out of nowhere a bit, would have been nice to have an establishing scene a la Spy Who Loved Me earlier on. (Also what on earth is she wearing in the Hamburg scene? High heels are the worst kind of footwear for stealth)
@Buzzardonic So here's a follow-up. The GPS guy says that the waters where the Devonshire sank belong to Vietnam. But the MiG pilot earlier warned that the ship was in Chinese territorial waters. So, I assumed the GPS signal was being tampered for both. Is there a way to reconcile this if the Chinese signal was fine?
@@stephenjarvis534 good point. I'd assume this was a case of the waters being internationally considered Vietnamese, but the Chinese considering it theirs - if I remember correctly China basically claims everything that isn't within about 10 miles of another country. That said, the MiGs say something about them being within 11 miles of China I think? From memory (I rewatched TND yesterday) the ship sunk just south of Hainan Island, so it may have been on the border between Vietnamese and Chinese waters.
@@Buzzardonic Fair point. Still, it probably could have been explained more succinctly.
Logical choices. I probably would put Gustav Graves & Elliot Carver lower than where you had them for annoyance factors and Elektra King a bit higher.
By weird complications, this might be my favourite of Moore's films. Maybe it's just the fact Christopher Lee is great, but I end up liking it. Goodnight and Nick Nack are also extremely memorable, and I don't mind Andrea Anders and Lieutenant Hip. I even like the return of Sherrif J.W. Pepper. The score has some highlights, and the eastern setting is quite distinct. Lulu's title song is genuinely underrated, and one I hold up with the likes of Goldfinger and View to a Kill. The plot relies on Bond doing more detective work and hoping that other people will help him achieve his goal, but this results in him being more violent and aggressive than usual. I'm not massive on Moore in the film, and I think his take on the character from TSWLM onwards caterered more to his style.
The Bond franchise is one of the very few that can boast title tracks that are, at least, good, entertaining songs. I like so many of them that I find it almost impossible to rank them.
What a shitty ranking
With Harry gone Cubby had to have a hit so he went all out and it shows Moore makes Bond his own
18:05 never understood that tbh. The CIA had a friendlier diplomatic ties with the British than the Soviets, so I dont think they would have mind working with a British agent, especially someone that they know from Felix Leiter.
15:20 Even Shirley Bassey herself does not even like the song "Moonraker"
8:00 Barbara Bach's line reading were mostly wooden and one note. Atleast Lois Chiles give a more natural take on her line readings.
4:55 plot convenience.
4:28 I am not a fan. Copying a blueprint of a plot from a previous move in the same series once is okay, Twice is a bit too much.
