Well, you went from Bond to Zelda…. Two of my favorite media outlets on a personal level . What a surprise to find this on my feed during my lunch break. As usual, fantastic video with research and editing. Just in case you’re reading my mind, up next will be rollercoasters, vinyl records and Banjo-Kazooie? 😅
Happy to see the upload Stephen! I'm really not a Zelda fan. I chock it up to just not growing up with the games. I spent time with Resident Evil and MGS in the late 1990s, and not with Zelda. I've attempted to go back and play the games, but I really just don't feel much of anything from it. I'm sure it's good, it just isn't my taste. Thanks for the ranking! Looking forward to the next series!
@ it’s easily the best top down Zelda. It borrows a lot from A Link to the Past but improves on a lot. I really love the soundtrack too. The story is pretty simple throughout but the ending is great.
I've only played the 3D games. Here's my ranking of those (spoiler... we have very different tastes) 1- Ocarina of Time 2- Twilight Princess 3- Skyward Sword 4- Majora's Mask 5- Breath of the Wild 6- Tears of the Kingdom 7- Wind Waker
Solid list! I respect the fact that you put Breath of the Wild ahead of Tears of the Kingdom. Majora’s Mask and Twilight Princess are my personal favorites.
The original was my first, back in the 80s. I was never fond of the sequel (though I’ve come to like it more over time), and it was the SNES that was - to me - the best entry in the original series. Wind Waker remains an experience I have to try; my children loved it, which was rewarding to see them discover a game and grow attached to it the way I had with the SNES version. For modern games, I thought Twilight Princess was more moody than Skyward Sword, but Skyward had a better gameplay experience. Breath of the Wild is stunning. It surpassed Skyrim as my favourite modern game until I got my hands on Battletech, but it remains one that I will not sell and just keep replaying once a year. I have the Zelda Game & Watch, and play the original a bit each day on my lunch at work.
Man, it will always hurt to see AOL at the bottom of lists. Loved it as a kid and still enjoy it now. I know you said you’re not a fan of emu, but I’d still recommend giving the pc edition a shot. It does a great job of keeping the charm of the original and the QoL updates. Also hope you get a chance to play the A Link between worlds at some point. It was a great entry in the series. I’m pretty basic with my choices of ALTTP, OOT, and WW taking my top 3. I tend to go back to OOT as my favorite and then I replay through ALTTP or WW and find one of those to be my favorite. Hard to go wrong with most of the entries.
I had a Gamecube growing up but never got any games for it. I was way to obsessed with Halo and Xbox durng that time period. Oddly enough, I do have a copy of Twilight Princess for the Gamecube, and I've started it a couple of times but never get very far. Hooking older consoles up to modern screens makes everything a blurry mess and thus makes the barrier for entry to high for me. Ive patiently waited for remakes of Windwaker and Twilight for the Switch, but nothing. If they don't capitalize on remaking those for the new console that's just around the corner, I'm going to be a whole bunch of different kinds of upset! Also, I never played Link to the Past, but I did play Link Between Worlds. I absolutely adored that game. You should check it out if you haven't already!

Zelda 2 is now widely considered an excellent game and no more difficult than a soulsborne game in all honesty you just need to respect how the gameplay is, however Ocarina is the best for me but like you said there arent any bad choices
It’s really interesting in that AOL is still considered the black sheep because it changed up some of the originals tropes after one entry, but BOTW is considered one the greatest for changing 30 years of tropes. It does seem like it’s still not given a fair shot. It’s such an excellent entry.
@wkmalory The main difference I find between it and Soulsbourne games is more circumstantial than anything. 80s games had a tendency to send you all the way back to the beginning if you failed too often. Zelda 2 doesn't exactly do that, but the amount of time it takes to get back to where you were can add up fast, and you're more than likely to get frustrated that the weight of your failure hangs more around your neck than other games. It's what turned me off as a kid, and I saw no reason to keep trying at it when I had 4 other Zelda games that would allow me to get further. That said, Zelda II is still a quality title and is more than worthy of being on the same shelf as the others. It's just my least favorite of all the ones I've done.
Besides its art style I will never get the appeal about the wind waker. The controls are one of the worst in the 3d series, the dungeons are sub par, you have a huge open map of just water that doesn’t have any substance to it hardly, the boss fights are ok I guess but it doesn’t do anything better than most 3d Zelda’s.. the music is really good though
I'll agree the dungeons and boss fights could be a little better (though I still have yet to come across a better Ganondorf final battle). The open world being mostly empty is a fair criticism, though I would levy that same critique against most open-worlds (Ocarina, Twilight, Breath and Tears all suffer from this problem too). I'm curious about your complaint with the controls. They feel pretty tight to me. I also love the unique sword attack, the sailing is simple and intuitive, and most of the rest of the controls are pretty standard for the Gamecube titles. Twilight Princess and Ocarina share a lot of similarities. Plus, Wind Waker allows you to crawl, side step on ledges and peak around corners, which are things I don't recall a lot of the other games having. If you could, would you mind explaining what's your issue there?
Not enough views on this bad boy! Very well made video my friend!

@@mattkelly7971 Well, despite working in sound and liking Disneyland, I doubt those first two. However, I'm not completely ruling out Banjo-Kazooie.
@@stephenjarvis534 HAHA rats! I'll patiently be awaiting your "death of the platformer" review. Thanks again!

Link Between Worlds is my personal favorite.
It's the only one I can keep replaying without Fatigue.
Out of the ones I've never played, that is the one I'm saddest not to have access to. It looks super fun.

It has a good story although that goes for most Zelda games
We're all different, that's fine, personally I really enjoyed sailing.
