Hey Johnny, This is Will with Military Lawn Cuts & Landscaping. I am another Veteran who is in the lawn care business like yourself. I currently am just using my personal cell phone for business as well but am not sure if this is the most efficient way because I have clients that text me outside of work hours that takes up a lot of my time. Do you have a business line that is different than your personal cell phone and how do you set it up to ring your personal phone? Thanks in advance!!
I’m very particular about keeping my equipment clean. Not only does it help to fix any problems earlier but it also shows customers that you care about your equipment and take pride in your business. This professional approach also tells your clients that you take pride in the work you do for them. No body wants a crew turning up with shoddy looking equipment to their home
It also trickles to the employees, they know that the boss man gets you good equipment and holds them accountable, therefore they show better respect to their tools.
I have to say after watching several of your videos, I have to respect not only your work but your visual standards. I respect the fact you make sure you and your staff look professional while doing a dirty job.
You remind me of my dad. When he had his business, he always kept his equipment clean. A lot of people who think it was a waste of time because "its just going to get dirty again or "its meant to be dirty". But I will tell you now that like your equipment that's lasted several years, he also has equipment that is 15+ years old that starts up right away. Even a zero turn from the 80s that still works.
I worked for a lawn care company out of Punta Gorda Florida For awhile and our everyday routine at the end of work we took out every piece of equipment every single day. They also tough us to never rev up and down up and down with the weed eaters and blowers because it wrecks the fuel diaphragms inside. It was like LAWNCARE equipment clean up boot camp. :)
Just bought some old equipment at a yard sale. I am on a fixed income, so I hope they work OK. I bought an electric weed eater, an electric hedge trimmer, and a Scott's fertilizer spreader-a large one. So I am going to get brave and clean them and see if I can get them working. I have never used electric tools. I actually have been trimming my yard with scissors and sitting on the ground and hand pulling weeds and grass. I am an older woman. I have an acre and I landscape it myself with a variety of bushes, trees and plants and flowers. I do not even know how to put the string on the weed eater. Thank goodness for You Tube! Wish me luck. Thanks for the video!!!
*Good vid, thanks for sharing. I call this cleaner purple stuff and I use it to clean all my equipment as well. I use it on my hedge trimmers as well and it cleans the blades exceptionally well. I just use my electric handheld blower to blow dry everything after I rinse with my garden hose to remove all of the water and prevent rust and moisture problems. One thing I did notice about purple stuff is that it ruins the pump on the spray bottles. If the trigger on your spray bottles ever starts sticking or becomes useless just look under the trigger and you'll see a small plunger. Pour a little engine oil or other thick oil on that plunger and it'll work like new again.*
Thanks for your video. My husband is like you in keeping machinery clean. So your cleanliness is appreciated. My new Kobalt weedeater is light, battery powered, and does the job. Now I can keep my fence rows clean.
We have an eight axle tractor/trailer unit in a trucking company I own with my son in law. We have a simple rule: The equipment is kept clean after every run - no exceptions. The whole unit goes through a truck wash and the tractor is detailed about every four months - inside and out. Customers notice when a driver comes into his yard to pick up an $800,000 piece of new equipment with a clean rig and a well groomed and clean driver. The customers comment on it and we get business from it. If we take such good care of our equipment, the customer reasonably assumes we will the same for the cargo. And we do. I don't drive a truck but I do set rules. Our owner-drivers are a lot happier with their clean rigs even when they have to pay to have them clean.
Hi Johnny! Personal preference for me...is Simple Green. I get the gallon containers of the concentrated solution, then put them in pump sprayers like you do. The Simple Green seems to work best on stuff like algae, grass and dirt stains, it would probably work well on the dreaded Savannah yellow snow too. Keep up the good work, and thanks for sharing your videos with us.
I use the same cleaning product but instead of a spray bottle I use a one gallon pump sprayer to speed things up. Continue making these how to videos and pop smoke!!
Great job and I use a similar brush from HF which is great. I suggest we clean equipment & vehicle prior to being sent to be serviced it shows you care and tech will provide perfection.
Exactly I keep my equipment looking brand new and yea I payed a lot of money for it and if it looks dirty I clean it l but I just use a pressure washer it can be a pan sometime might give this a go keep rockin 👍
I like to clean too. For me I just powerwash them . Zero turns key cleaned and if need touch up paint I do that to. I think I clean my zero more then my truck. I was everywhere right before u change oil to. Good tip on the purple stuff.
We use a product called "oil eater" a type of degreaser, but hmmm that purple power looks better. After I clean my equipment I spray some WD40 on the head and the shaft of string trimmer to make it easier to clean the next time around.
Great advice, Johnny, for cleaning and maintenance of your equipment. You’d notice any defects early and sets a great example for your team and customers 👍👍
Got a new Kobalt weedeater from Lowe's. Love it. Just cleaned it like you said. On my way to get Kobalt hedge trimmer. Love the battery power. Thanks for your video. Was very helpful.
That's funny, I was cleaning my equipment yesterday too. Lol, I didn't get a chance to get my handhelds, yours put mine to shame. Will be doing mine by the end of the week.
I appreciate the effort you put in your business. It shows your work ethic! Do you cover the exhaust holes before you spray with water so water doesn’t enter the cylinder? I might have missed it. I’m not far from you, and this is the first time I’ve seen your channel👍

Came here for cleaning advice on power tools. Really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience. The video is thorough showing your process, thanks for sharing. I would like to know what the adapter arm is on your trimmer. I've never seen that before & I'm super interested to know if you feel its helpful. I use trimmers on a large commercial property for hours at a time & we only have slings here which I really don't like.
Great vid; thank you so much for the how-to! I've been meaning to clean my trimmer lately, but wasn't sure what to use on it, or the best way to clean it up.
Never thought about my weed eater, but now I know. Where do you buy the Purple Power. As far as keeping everything clean, it makes your customers feel better seeing clean equipment. It's like going to a auto shop, they can have the best mechanics in town, but if the shop and office are dirty, you don't want to get your work done there because it will make you wonder.

Thanks for this video. I just bought a Stihl FS 56 R and after my first use I was wondering how to keep it clean without damaging it. I thought that too much water could ruin the transmission but, after watching your vid I was obviously wrong. So it won't be a problem to water it and use degreaser on the transmission areas, etc?
how do you like the darwins grip...is it worth the money....thinking about getting one......and you are right about the pressure washer, i used it on my mower, wasnt paying attention, and cut a front tire.....im using the purple power and the garden hose from now on.......
Would a pressure washer remove poison ivy oil without a degreaser? Is it safe to use it on the water sensitive parts in the back due to the strength of the water? It’s crazy how cleaning something like this can sound so easy in theory but with urushiol being so annoying to possibly be exposed to makes me overthink it.
Johnny where did you get that spray bottle? And how long does it last holding Purple Power? I haven't found one locally that will last 2 weeks with the cleaner in it.

Yes. They come with a two-year warranty

Oh... Yes, be patient it's coming
So would you use a pressure washer if washing a lot more equipment at once?

Which is better? Husqvarna or Sthil . I have the bt150, looking back wish I had bought the bt350.
Will water not ruin the engine or other electric parts?
Easier if u put it in a 1 gallon sprayer
Great information ..thank you very much
Glad it was helpful!
Good vid bro.
Great video...do you mix the purple power with water in the spray bottle like a 1:1 ratio or just apply the concentrate directly to the equipment?

Hey Johnny did you mix up a batch of fuel with the Sabre yet?
Not yet, we've inundated with pine straw jobs but will let you know
Hey what is that handle on the string trimmer if you don't mind?
Very good!
Do you use a gas stabilizer, or premium fuel in your small stuff?
I use marine fuel for my small stuff
Will not spraying water on the motor and turning mechanism mess it up over time on the weed eater?
Would a pressure washer remove poison ivy oil without a degreaser? Is it safe to use it on the water sensitive parts in the back due to the strength of the water?

Try some Mean Green Auto and Garage cleaner when you can to see how it compares. Get it st Walmsrt Dollar General.

I only had a chance to use it one property and felt occurred, but I know that it takes some getting use to
I want one.
Thank you soo much for sharing
You are so welcome
After you spray the equipment how long do you leave the spray on for?
3 to 4 minutes
Can you do the same to a push mower? Spray purple power and spray it down ?
No, the purple power is too strong for the mowers paint so use www.ballard-inc.com/mower-magic-pro-wash/MAGICPRO.html?lang=default
You can get a car wash brush with a water hose attachment.
Useless for cars, but for perfect for this.
I see that you have both stihl and echo witch one do you perfer?

Straight
