    Awesome thanks for the tips! One tip I have is make sure you let the orings and gaskets soak in transmission fluid before install. Helps condition them for less chance of leaks!

    This method worked 100%! I bought a $20 pump off Amazon and pumped out about 5 quarts through the dipstick. The pan came right off using this trick, even the filter gasket came out quick and easy. I was 45 minutes in to it and about 15 minutes from being completely done. Had the pan cleaned, back on and hand tightened all the bolts. All that was left was to torque the pan bolts and add fluid back. And then it happened, as I was torqueing the first pan bolt (and thinking man, this doesn't seem right) I snapped the bolt off at the head. Lesson learned. Make sure you know how to use a torque wrench before putting it on anything that matters. Aside from that, this tip was very helpful.

    Nice! Some advice.
    Pull the exhaust down at the flex and wedge in place. Step drill the pan and weld in a treaded drain bung for oil pans and use an oil pan drain plug.
    Don’t reuse the filter seal, get the old one out and install a new one.
    If you don’t have a welder, try to source a friend or take it to a muffler shop and pay to have the bung welded in.
    ( side tip, if you know where the drain will go you can use a sharp punch and poke it to drain it before removing any bolts.

  • @allanarndt3047
    @allanarndt3047 2 года назад +5

    I was hoping but NOPE! Without pulling the exhaust down in some way turning the pan does not give the clearance needed to remove it. After pulling the exhaust down using a 2x4 with a ratchet strap just ahead of the flex coupler removing the pan went smoothly using your turn the trans. pan method. Even tho your turn the pan method did not work 100% it did help so thanks! It was worth a try & may work for others?

      It seems every trucks exhaust is tightened at the factory in a different position so if the exhaust pipe was installed high this method won’t work.I checked a couple other half tons & both were lower than mine.

    Amateur tip: just spend $50 and get the aftermarket pan with the drain bolt and never think about the filter again once replaced lol. I remember doing this job on my Envoy 5.3, getting stuck, then paying for a tow truck and tranny shop to finish. Going to give it another go on my 08 Silverado since I'm towing with it. Only 54k miles on it, but just gonna get it done and forget about it, besides occasional 4 quart fluid swaps

    People are so obsessed with removing the pan. Why? There is another video that shows just drop the pan enough to remove and replace the filter, and use rags or suction to get the remaining oil out in the pan. You can reach in and grab the magnet and clean that too. People seem to spend 4 hours trying to remove the pan completely when you don't need to in order to replace the filter.
