This guy makes the best point ever about how pointless the sobriety test is, in Australia they don't bother with sobriety tests they just breathalyze you and charge you if you're over. A lot more efficient and less time wasted making drunk say their abcs and walk an imaginary line
FYI the reason they do that is in case the person is currently or had recently taken some breath mints, gargled some listerine, etc. They usually wait 15 min before administering a breathalyzer test.
A field sobriety test is used to gain probable cause for a blood draw, which is the end all be all. A blood draw never lies. Without a field sobriety test used they don’t have probable cause only probable suspicion which doesn’t rise to meet the standard for a warrant for a blood draw.
@@yankeesforlife24 But wouldn't a breathalyzer test do the job? I would consider it to be more straightforward and reliable. At this point the whole field sobriety procedure seems outdated and a waste of time for all involved parties ...
People also take pills and other drugs that can impair them and they’d blow 0’s on the breathalyzer, but they’re still impaired. The only probable cause they need for a warrant are the officer’s observations that sometimes include field sobriety. If the person declines field sobriety and the PBT the officer can still get a blood warrant based only on their observations.
@@eldona123 no a breathalyzer is not 100% accurate. It’s just a gauge. A blood draw doesn’t lie and therefore is generally the only thing admissible in court.

I’m so fascinated by these videos. The police are so polite empathetic and professional. I grew up during the troubles in Northern Ireland when the police did not need a reason to stop you and search you. As a young women driving alone I was often terrified by a group of men stopping me in the dark. They’d often flirt and make comments if a sexual nature - it wasn’t seen as a big deal back then. I’ve never been arrested or in any trouble and I’m very much against drunk driving as I lost a friend to drunk driver (a police officer incidentally). If we talked to the cops in the way many people in these video do we’d have been in a cell so fast our feet wouldn’t touch the ground. I hope you appreciate these guys.
I love your surname, Anne! At least I think it’s your surname; if not, sorry! The police officers here are in La Crosse, Wisconsin, right across the Mississippi River from Minnesota, and these two states have had reputations for extremely polite people from 100+ years ago. It’s the Scandinavian influence....Minnesota has had a very large population of Swedish, Norwegian, and Finnish people, and Wisconsin does to a lesser extent. There are warped, evil police officers everywhere, even in Minneapolis (as we know from the George Floyd murder), so I believe it’s wrong to characterize all, or even a majority, of officers as rotten.

I can’t believe everyone boo-hooing over this poor, sad, lonely drunk. I worked in an emergency room and saw many victims of drunk drivers. He is a menace and not deserving of pity.
I thought he was stupid for intentionally driving drunk just to get arrested, but I quickly realized that he's being self-destructive on purpose. He wants to go to jail for a long time because he completely lacks a support system, and jail provides the structure, and perhaps the community, he so desperately needs.
Why do all these people whine they can barely move but have a licence to drive? I have arthritis. When my knees got really bad, I gave up driving because I am not a selfish creep who is willing to risk the lives of others for my convenience. I have ZERO sympathy for those who do.
Exactly! All these comments about feeling sorry for this guy and give him a break...seriously, if any one of them had lost a loved one to a drunk driver, they would be singing a different tune!! The man's a danger regardless of his life problems. I agree he needs help but all they can do is continue to arrest him and make it as inconvenient as possible until HE decides to get the help he needs.
He’s clear enough to realize “we just want to give you the opportunity….” Is a bunch of shit lol how many times were they gonna ask him when he clearly said no!
I think he clearly has some denial issues, like implying alcohol is not a drug (even though it absolutely is), or saying he doesn't want to take pain meds because he has seen too many brothers die that way (as he drinks and drives repeatedly, endangering not only his life but anyone else who is driving). His claim about his law degree sort of fits in with this too. He may have been arrested enough to have a rough idea of the process, but to say he knows the law better than most lawyers is laughable.
I have never watched a video where I really felt sympathy for the person stopped by police. This man is in pain both physically and mentally. I hope he will get the help he needs. God Bless him.

3:15 Hes 100% correct on if you have 2 beers you will fail the breathalyzer. I bought one out of curiousity back when I drank and sometimes even 1 shot or beer would put me at the .08 limit
It also depends on how long ago you drank. That's why they ask- how long ago was your last drink? Because if it was really recent, breath will be inaccurate
Depends on how soon after you drank them you do it, whether the fumes are still on your breath. I got pulled over years ago after drinking probably a six pack or so over the last couple hours. Passed the fields and agreed to blow, told them I only drank two beers an hour or two ago. I blew .078, which is .002 under the limit. The officer seemed a little annoyed, asked me again how much I had to drink. I said "just the two". He said "you know and I know you didn't blow .078 from drinking two beers". I've been in a similar mental state as this, when you're emotional and going through a lot of hardships in life you do stupid shit like what he did. I.. really hope he has gotten the help he's needed. This seems like a man who just wants to be happy again. You can tell by the way he talks that he's struggling to keep the will to live.
"the help he's needed" always the same. it's like "thoughts and prayers". sounds civilized and caring, but at the end of the day, it's hollow and meaningless.

We appreciate them when they act like this but, it’s not always the case that police are civil here.

Depends on how soon after you drank them you do it, whether the fumes are still on your breath. I got pulled over years ago after drinking probably a six pack or so over the last couple hours. Once again, our first responders do NOT get paid enough. Smdh
Yeah okay.
The professional ones do, the ones that are their to abuse & get paychecks off of anything then no.
Police are not first responders.
@@Isaiahisnotonfire of course. I agree.
@@PopMofo1997 um do you even know what that means?
He’s just so happy to be arrested 😂 til the end.
But why?
"That left disc in his back prevents him from walking properly." I bet it does.
It’s full of vodka!😂
When he said "God I actually made it to La Crosse county jail" I thought, he just wanted to be on Code Blue Cam 🤣
In the blue corner:
The polite and patient, LA CROSSE POLICE DEPARTMENT!!!
And in the rrred corner:
The man!
The myth!
The mouth!
LENNY LEROY “FLAPPER” GUMS!!!
This is what depression looks like in a grown man...hope life gets better for him.
"I can't walk because of the left disc in my back"
Does he not know that the discs are in the center in his back? There aren't left and right ones
me and my wife caught that one too
I read this as I was hearing him say that and thinking wtf lol.
How would he know that? He has a law degree, not a medical degree.
He was probably told he had issues with his L4/5 and thought that meant “left” instead of “lumber”.
@@lauriehollinger4540 lol 😂 I hope he wouldn’t have lumber in his back either.
I love how he shouts that it's not ok to search his vehicle. Umm, you don't need to shout. You just need to say it loud enough for the mic to register it which is normal speech volume. Oh, and he should know that if there's an open container in plain sight it gives probable cause for a search, regardless of the 4th amendment. 4th states unreasonable, but in this case with open containers it becomes reasonable.
Most cooperative uncooperative arrest 😂
This hits differently when depression and loss of hope are so evident
I’ve been through it over the last 2 years, even became estranged from my family and started drinking again, but I wouldn’t drive. My problems aren’t everyone else’s problems. But I’m making it, going to make it!
I'm sure it sucks to have to read but I'm really glad they have to read that. So many times you see someone who's drunk ask "Do I have to do this" and the cop just replies "It's up to you" without explaining what happens if they refuse until afterward. That's just wrong in my opinion
They explain what happens in the law that was written against drinking and driving.
@Six6 Nix and you've read every law on the books? All I'm saying is that they should be required to take the 3 extra seconds to tell them that refusing this test is a crime instead of baiting them into additional charges they may not have if they were informed
If he only has a left and right disc in his back, he’s definitely got problems…
HE got his medical degree the same spot as his Law degree
Knows more about the law than most lawyers but doesn't know the law. Self medicates with alcohol but is still in pain. Bro, your legal and medical knowledge ain't shit.
Not cool. You obviously don’t know jack about unmanaged chronic pain.
"I've heard about LaCrosse County Jail." Yeah, I hear the officers are super friendly and kind.
