  • 13 Of the Worst Tourist Traps in Las Vegas. Isn't the whole of Las Vegas a tourist trap? Yes, Las Vegas is designed to attracts tourists, but tourist traps are those who deliberately mislead and overcharge or who use tempting offers to lure the unsuspecting tourist. They don’t care if you ever come back they got your money once and hook new suckers daily. I do not consider tourist traps things that are popular with tourists, I like popular tourist attractions! That’s why they are popular, people like them!

1 - Club Promoters on the strip
If there’s one rule of thumb in the Las Vegas nightlife scene is you get what you pay for. The Las Vegas strip is full of promoters offering free VIP pases to just about any club. They promise free drinks or to bypass the line. The deals are usually to good to be true. Bypass the line is usually only good early in the night when there is no line. And free drinks might only be up until a certain time. And never pay for a VIP pass on the strip, the promoter is already getting a cut from the club when
2- the gelato stand in the Forum Shops which I'm calling out because of the $10 for two small scoops
3 - Time share people asking "how long are you in town for", "can I interest you in show tickets"
Don't listen to the timeshare people. Just keep walking- don't talk to them/don't make eye contact with them. Their free show tickets are a trap and a waste of time. They won’t cost you money, but will cost you your precious time.
4 - the rides on top of the Stratosphere. Three rides on top of the Strat...$36.
5 - Posing for pictures on the strip with characters...whether they be Elvis, or show girls, or a character from whatever the latest movie is.
6 - RESORT FEES... just put them in the price already!!! We ALL know they're mandatory!!! That $17 isn’t $17 when it has a $40 resort fee!
7- Cabo Wabo, PBR, & Margaretville below average food not worth the price. The setting sucks you in.
8 - Restaurants endorsed by celebrity chefs. You can expect to fork over $300-400 for a meal for 2 people at some of these places
    9 - Three Card Monte
Also known as a shell game, you’d think everybody would know about this, but it’s still alive and kicking in Vegas on the strip. Dealers setup a makeshift table with a cardbox box or something and ask players to be on a card that will be shuffled with the others. If you pick correctly you double your money. Except when they shuffle they switch your card with another one all together. You can never win.
10 - Bacchanal Buffet -- $64.99 for dinner. Want to skip the line and make reservation? Book the vip package for $94.99 a person!
    13 -
The High Roller Rollercoaster & Madame Tussaud's
Some more things to avoid in Las Vegas:
    Any margarita under $3.
Poker, BJ, and craps after drinking heavily.
    Friendly "single" women at bars.
Watch or hold something for a stranger
Accept a casino casino chip from a stranger in exchange for cash
Set your purse or bag on the floor when playing
Wade in the Bellagio (or any other) fountain
Allow your cab drive to use the tunnel "to avoid construction"
Be aware of the fact that many of the monorail stations are set way back from the strip and it is a hike to get to/from them. I would only use it if I were going to the Sahara/Hilton/convention center (others will disagree- but I am sticking to this advice!).
Never take the Deuce if you have to be at a certain place at a certain time (or- at least- leave plenty of time to get there). The Deuce can be painfully slow and crowded.
Don't forget to DRINK WATER and moisturize or you will go home looking like a hungover albeit happy lizard
    Cirque du'Soleil- all of them.
Don't take a shuttle from the airport. It is almost as cheap to take a cab
DO NOT see the Criss Angel show
Don't get off of Freemont Street in any direction

    • @paulcarr5918
      @paulcarr5918 4 года назад +3

It's actually done to keep the homeless from camping on them. They also have people to shoo them off the walkways over the streets. Just head in and plonk down at a set at an empty slot machine and rest if you can't handle whatever hike you set off on. No one actually forces you to play them. Or on one of the many short walls or rails that run along some of them. Or inside the shop areas of places like Ceasar's, Planet Hollywood, etc, that are accesable straight from the strip and do have benches...and again no one forces you to shop once inside.

What you said about the Times Share ppl is 100% true. My wife and I were in Vegas for my birthday (1/21), and we literally wasted 6-7 hours to listen to a “too good to be true” presentation. Then, at the end when we said we weren’t interested in becoming “owners” they became very aggressive and started acting as if we owed them something. Take the advice, don’t fall for it!

My husband and I went to Vegas in Feb. (2019). We had several people trying to stop us while just passing through the casinos. And, as the guy said in the video, that is exactly the things they asked as we walked by (like where we were from, how long we were going to be there, and also asked if we were wanting to or planning to see any shows). We didn't know what it was for or what the catch was, so after a while, we were curious and finally stopped to see what it was all about. Well, the guy we talked to was pretty straight forward and told us about the time share and how exactly it would work and what to expect and what was actually required of us to get the free stuff offered, which was 2 tickets to a show of our choice, $50 for either gambling or a $50 voucher to eat at a restaurant from a list they gave us (we chose to eat-LOL) and we also got a free 3 night stay at a hotel for the future to go back to Vegas. He said we were required to listen to them for only 2 hours to get the free offers and we could even set a timer to stop them after 2 hours to let them know our time was up and could leave and get our stuff, if we needed to stop them. He said they know a lot of people come in just for the free stuff and know that we only have to be there for 2 hours, so they should be good on that and they were. The man that we were with after the presentation thing at the beginning let us know that he was watching the 2 hour time and knew how long he had left with us before the 2 hours was up. He did stop after 2 hours and we declined and were done and led out to the front where I think he told them to get our info. to give us our free tickets and vouchers. We did end up having to wait around a little longer than we wanted to for our transportation back out of there to Planet Hollywood (where we were staying). It maybe took up about 3 hours all together, but it was fine with us for what we got out of it. We really enjoyed the show and saved alot of money (to us) for that and also saved $50 on a buffet after the show that was also great. And, we still have the 3 night stay for later. So, in the end we were pleased with it. Only regret it was on the morning of our last full day there and the fact we had to get up earlier than we wanted to after staying out late the night before.

@@wa1721 If you know what you're getting into, the Timeshare thing can be an advantage. When we lived within driving distance of Vegas, we attended our first TS presentation. They covered the cost of our hotel for 2 nights, we had the voucher for a show, and it cost us 4 hours. I'll sit in a presentation for 4 hours during the day in exchange for lodging and some entertainment supplement. But it got better.
Coming back from the presentation, another TS "recruiter" stopped us with the same routine. We told them we *just* did the presentation and they ask "do you want to do it again?" That was all it took for us to see this as an opportunity.
We attended the TS presentation a total of 4 times. Each time, we had 2-3 nights in the Luxor (our wedding hotel, so we always chose that one), 2 times a free lunch buffet, and vouchers with a small return on deposit (casino chips or show tix). By the 3d or 4th presentation, we got used to the pitch. I started giving them the answers to questions I knew they were going to ask. I even told one salesman it was our 3d presentation and we didn't plan on buying. He said "ok. well we have 2 hours to kill. Know any jokes?"
TS presentations aren't all bad. You just have to know what you're signing up for and compare the value.

Ok, I work on the Strip so I would like to explain some things. The hotel/casinos are gouging people now, I will admit that, but I want to explain why. (And I'm not in favor of or against any of this, I'm simply explaining)
    1. Vegas is totally corporatized now. As with any corporation, bottom line is all that matters. Always remember this.
    2. The reason many tourists, like you, complain about the Vegas of today is because you remember a time when Vegas wasn't like this. Once upon a time, you parked for free, there were no resort fees, food was all cheap, and most of your "vacation money" went towards gaming or shows. There are a couple reasons this has changed.
    - Most major cities in the U.S. that have tourism (L.A., New York, Chicago, Miami, Honolulu, etc etc) have been charging parking and resort fees for a long time. The corporations of Vegas saw this but stayed away from it for a long time. However, they have recently jumped on the bandwagon with these fees because they said to themselves, "We're a major tourist destination just like those other cities, so we have the right to charge for the same things they are."
    - The 2nd and more vital reason is because the tourist dynamic in Vegas has changed and Vegas is changing with it. The Vegas of yesteryear was cheap with rooms, food, and parking because everything was subsidized by the gaming revenue. They made so much money from gaming, that they could afford to make very little from everything else. They would comp people rooms, food, transportation, or whatever, just to get them in the door because they could count on the tourists to gamble. This is not happening anymore. You need to remember, the prime demographic that all corporations covet is the young crowd, and the young people of today are not nearly as interested in gambling as the older generations were. Young people coming to town now are more interested in the food scene (celebrity restaurants), nightclubs, and drinking. Even the older crowd is not gambling as much as before. Without the gaming revenue, Vegas can no longer afford to make everything else cheap the way it used to be. I just read where July 2018, the airport here saw record numbers of tourists come through, but if you look at other articles, the corporations are reporting gaming revenue is down across the board in their quarterly earnings reports.
    3. There are now casinos ALL OVER AMERICA, and many people don't need to travel to Vegas anymore to get their gambling fix. This has also greatly impacted Vegas's bottom line.
This is why Vegas has changed. This is a reactionary town. They transform with the trends they see happening around them, rather than starting a trend.
Hope this helps clear it up for you.

TRIPxCORE -- good points.. I live here too. NV pulled in more tax revenue that any other state ... 425,000,000... taxes on that are some 71 million. Supposedly going for education.. we have yet to see that happen.. so as far as the Casinos looking out for us or you? Excuse me, corporations?? You’re shit out of luck. They will
Continue to gouge us, or them (tourists). Good points though.. but always remember, corporations don’t care about you, and vote blue in Nov.

      Tax revenue ..

    • @VegasLoungeAct
      @VegasLoungeAct 5 лет назад +1

But marijuana tax revenue goes to the government. The casinos don't see any direct revenue from that. They might only see ancillary revenue from tourists coming to Vegas specifically for the marijuana that happen to stop in a casino or hotel and spend money.

Quite evident. It's cardboard town.New Orleans is so much more wonderful. A 'real' city. And one can wastemoney like in Vegas. There's a huge Harrahs casino of Canal. I know, it'sa tourist trap too (New Orleans) but there's something more genuine about it.

I was about to be smacked with a resort fee at a hotel down in Panama Beach, Florida a couple years back and when I asked wtf was the resort fee for the guy said "for use of our amenities such as our pool, conference room, accessing a computer in our library, exercise room, etc." I said ummm....isn't that part of what your main hotel room price is for? And if not, what if I'm not using those extra amenities, why am I being billed for stuff I don't use? That's like charging someone 50 bucks a night for long distance phones calls even if you didn't make a single call from your room, but the fee is "because we offer the service in case you need to use it". Whaaat? wtf? Is that even legal?

Lol not really...they may cost more yes but the convenience of it for some is worth it. Some people splurge on vacation especially in Vegas especially if they won a lot. I've lived here 20 years now and the "typical tourist" is on its way out here. Gone are the days of the cousin Eddie type(thank God too) that are searching for the next free buffet. Vegas changes with the times and that is old news. So- buying a drink from the mini bar for a bigger price than the grocery store is acceptable to a lot.

Yup. I live on Rampart and Charleston. Red Rock is the go to. And if I must make a trip downtown I head to Golden Nugget or El Cortez. My hubby and I really enjoy the sandwiches at Bin 702 in the container park. If we do ever stay on the strip we enjoy Circus Circus for the wide variety of entertainment.

We visited Vegas back in april and stayed at the Rio, which was ok. Ate at that in and out burger by the ling, We were not impressed. To be fair, it was ridiculously busy. The best thing we decided to do was rent a car and spend the day at red rock canyon. Absolutely gorgeous! We were sick or the strip on the second day. don't get me wrong, just visiting the hotels was a trip in itself! they were awesome to wander through! Old Vegas was great for people watching, and seemed a little looser than the strip.

It's crazy. They really lost me when they started charging for parking. That was like the biggest slap in the face. I can take resort fees, I can take the house edge on all gaming, I can take even the high cost of buffet food however, charging me to park to stay at your hotel, to lose money at casino, and to spend money to eat at your buffet? That's where I draw the line.

All good tips. As somebody who's been there at least a dozen times, I've discovered all of these things. Unfortunately, there's no way to get around the resort fees. If you stay off Strip, the money you spent on taxicabs or Uber tend to be a lot more than just sucking it up and paying them. You pay for convenience, walking distance to everything.

I’ve been to Vegas over a dozen times in my life (hell I was just there a couple weeks ago). Everything said here is very true, and the safety guy knows exactly what’s up. Everything in these hotels is strategically placed to make you get lost in that casino and spend more $$. Something else to add.. watch out for the Aria Patisserie that’s open 24/7. Prices are insane for what you get.

Chris, Awesome video on 13 worst Tourist Traps! good stuff!! Love your videos!!!!!! I've been to Vegas several times with my girlfriend. You hit most of the major tourist traps. You mentioned IN n OUT Burger at the LINQ promenade!! That place is awesome!! tasty burgers and very affordable. Also Secret Pizza in the Cosmo ...excellent!!! Its kind of hard to find. I'd say if anyone goes to Freemont Street at night, hang onto your purses, wallets and phones. That place is crowded. Lots of pick pockets and FREAKS!!!! ha ha ha serious!! Thanks for sharing your videos Chris. Your the best!!! Great job!!!!

Hey Chris, I remember one more scam. When riding the Deuce bus. Look for scam artists trying to sell you an old 3 day pass when it doesnt even work. Like you said...Suckers born every day! ha ha I work with the Better Business Bureau in NC, so I deal with scams and ripoffs all the time. Great work!! Keep those videos coming Chris! You da man!!! ha ha Treat yourself to an IN/OUT Burger (Linq location of course).
