Common Tourist Mistakes in Las Vegas

  • Опубликовано: 31 июл 2024
  • Avoid these 30 common mistakes and you’ll have a better and cheaper time in Las Vegas Nevada. I asked fellow Yellow explorers on what mistakes they’ve made going to Las Vegas and the response was overwhelming. Watch this video to learn from others and you don’t have to make the same mistakes! The biggest and most common mistake is drinking too much. Pace yourself. Don’t go so hard the first night you’re there that you never get out of the room the next day.
2 - Eating too much. Yes there’s alot of buffets… and no… you don’t have to eat a buffet for every meal.
    3 - Gambling too much
4 - Thinking that you’ll make money. We call it “Lost Wages” for a reason!
5 - Acting as if what happens in Vegas really stays in Vegas. It gets posted on instagram. That could make an awkward conversation at work the next day!
6 - Trying to walk the whole strip in one day. It’s longer than it looks! And the area between the Circus Circus and Downtown can be quite sketchy. Especially between Stratosphere and downtown.
7 - Only using your feet for transportation. Your feet will be hating you. uber, monorails, trams, bus.
8 - Wearing high heels for a strip walk… or boots… or the worst… high heel boots. Ladies, bring some roll up flats and some bandaids.
9 - Thinking that the Rio Hotel & Palms are a close walk from Caesars. It's a REALLY long walk over the I-15 over some really crappy overpasses. I hope you enjoy car fumes.
10 - Never venturing off the strip… take an uber off strip to experience the real Las Vegas with cheaper and more delicious restaurants and bars
11 - Thinking the bus down the strip will be faster than walking. On a Friday/Saturday night you feet down the strip will be faster. A taxi or uber is a better wheeled option as they’ll go on the back road.
12 - Taking taxis at all. I heard this alot. Taxis in Vegas are expensive… many of the drivers are rude, and they’ll longhaul you, especially from the airport. There’s a phrase… it’s called getting “tunnelled”
13 - Booking hotels on a Saturday night with a concert or big fight - you’ll be paying 3X.
14 - Making a reservation in advance and NOT checking back before the 72 hour cancellation window. A lower rate might be available.
15 - Going on a whim and waiting until 9pm the day of to find a reasonably priced hotel to stay at.
16 - Not factoring in all the sneaky fees in to the actual price. Resort fee, parking fee, taxes. Oh… and sometimes the $100 deposit isn’t per stay, it’s per night.
17 - Thinking Mandalay Bay is close to the rest of the strip. Thinking Stratosphere is on the strip. That “cheap” room quickly gets expensive with all the taxi and uber rides you’ll be taking.
18 - Assuming the resort swimming pool will be a relaxing experience that you have all to yourself.
19 - Going in the summer. The temps of 118F will make you regret it! There’s a reason why hotels are cheap then!
20 - Thinking you don’t need sunscreen for whatever reason.. Oh you do!
21 - Not dressing warm for winter. It gets cold! Very windy! Wear layers so you can take them off when you go in to the casino.
22 - Trying to eat at the nice restaurants after 9.
23 - Not booking dinner at any of the Gordon Ramsey restaurants weeks in advance (pro tip, most are completely booked 3 weeks in advance)
24 - Buying water at the Casino gift shops for $7 a bottle.
25 - Being conned into a sales presentation.
26 - Paying full price for tickets to any of the shows through that hotel or resorts box office.
27 - Shopping at the stores on the strip.
28 - Driving back to LA on Sunday afternoon, or Monday afternoon of a holiday.
    29 - Got Married
30 - Jason Weiner says the BIGGEST mistake would be going to Las Vegas WITHOUT first viewing the AWESOME, insightful travel videos on Las Vegas from Yellow Productions.

Wi-Fi fees are worst and Paris is no exception, and finally there won’t be no time to watch TV however you can bring your ethernet cable. Here Be Barr Jon mention his video.

I've spent in excess of 100 nights in Vegas. Thank God I started years ago. I got a taste of a Las Vegas that simply doesn't exist anymore. One thing I wanted to say, BE CAREFUL. You can exit a casino on the back of the property (opposite of the strip) walk 100 feet and be in "no man's land. Crowbar to the head, shank between the ribs. Anyone that attempts to walk from the Strip to "downtown" damned sure better have a swat team with them. The gangs own that turf and they love to see that older couple from Kansas walking by. Done right, an incredible experience.

Derrick Klone Hi Derrick. Yes they probably did dig the water bottles out of the trash. And they refilled them with tap water. It’s just best to go to to CVS or Walgreens. It’s a lot more safe and sanitary. Sure it’s a little bit more expensive. But I’d rather spend a little bit more money on a water bottle that’s fresh and sealed then one that’s been used and is dirty.

One nice thing about booking MGM properties through their web site, is that they include the hotel fee on there. They do mention the deposit for incidentals but it's not included in the total because you do get it back after checkout, but at least they do equate the resort fees on there. I always tell my friends to look at the incidentals fee and make sure they include that into their budget since they won't have access to those funds during their stay.

Resort fees piss the hell out of me...BUT, factor in the resort fees and I can STILL stay in Vegas cheaper than I can at the Holiday Inn 10 miles down the road from where I live. I don't stay at high end hotels, but have never paid more than $50 a night (excluding resort fees)....and have stayed at about a dozen different hotels on the strip. The cheapest stay being at Excalibur ($29 a night + resort fees, when I stayed)which isn't bad at all for a place to sleep.

Shuttle buses are great from the airport to your hotel. Most charge $17 round trip. The drawback is the buses run a route through the resorts, and you might spend an hour or more riding the shuttle before you get to your hotel. The buses also drop you off at a different area from the cabs. But, you cannot really beat the price. Resorts off the strip also offer their own shuttles, as long as you stay at the hotel, it is free.

one thing i learned from visiting Vegas twice, is to bring a smaller jacket to wear inside the hotels. Especially during the summer (the time during the year i was there 2017 and 2018) it can be really cold inside the big hotels, like Mandalay bay and the convention center and the luxor. Bring a jacket with you just in case things start to get a little chilly.

We did quite a few of these last November. We stayed in the Luxor, walked as far as treasure island, after that it didn’t look as interesting so we crossed over and walked back down the other side. We got the deuce bus pass also. So we went to Fremont street and the famous gold shop and that way on, we also walked from caesars palace to the Rio to see penn and teller.
My top 3 things we did:
1- see David Copperfield at the MGM, the best show I have EVER seen.
2- visiting the Welcome To Las Vegas sign, it’s just something you have to do.
3- playing (responsibly) in the casinos. It’s what Vegas is about.
The worst thing I did- Eat at Hells Kitchen. Didn’t enjoy the over priced food and drink but I can say I have eaten there so that’s nice.

Yeah, I tell all my friends to bring walking shoes that are already broken in, as there will be plenty of walking involved, both inside and out. The hotels are HUGE and are designed where you simply can't walk straight through them. They funnel you all throughout the building to keep you there, especially in the casino sections.

unless you are disable walking the Vegas strip is never a problem 12 miles a day is good for the human body even in the day during sunshine. You have many places you can stop and take a break if you have to remember it's only 6 miles each way at the most depending on your starting point and if you are staying at a place in the middle you can do one side a day. I would gladly walk and take in everything, in fact, doing that to me is a good reason to go to Las Vegas to start with it's a good part of people watching.

I've been to Las Vegas a few times and walked the strip twice starting from Circus Circus all the way to the Mandalay Bay, I'll never do it again. Timeshares, I usually stay at a hotel actually are timeshares, the timeshare owners rent them out through travel sites; much cheaper and walking distance to the strip. If anyone's interested, it's the Desert Rose Resorts located right behind Hooters, the only complaint, there is a smell just before you get to Hooters other than that a great place to stay. You can take a cab to get where you want to go, just be careful and don't tell the cab driver too much personal information such as how long you going to be in Vegas and where you're from, some of them will use that against you to get more money. In conclusion, if you pay attention to his videos you will find them very informative.

Those are so true! After we went after about fifth time we learned to not to overeat and drink, your vacation will be miserable and you’ll feel fatigued! Also use sanitizer and EmergenC before plane, on plane, and always take your vitamins!
And if you plan to walk a lot, even in comfy sneakers, bring blister meds.
And don’t just linger on strip and downtown!

Great tips. I stay in a Condo next to Bellagio with a full kitchen and laundry and saved a fortune in food and drinks and just ate out for dinner only, CVS and Walgreens are a godsend. I only walk down the strip when one side is in shade, couldn’t take the bus anyway as it was totally packed. Yes, even walking around two or three casinos in a row is exhausting unless you’re in your 20s!

Mistake: Being afraid to try “normal” food places with normal prices outside of the hotel food courts. Some days you get used to thinking that $25 for Coffee and a Doughnut is reasonable and you have to smack yourself in the face and go to Starbucks or even McD’s as an antidote.

Drinking too much. OMG! This is a mistake I made all the time back in my younger days. I really did miss out a lot of what Vegas had to offer because I would spend the following morning battling a hang over from hell and then all of the previous night was just a haze in my memories. Don't do that anymore. I still drink, but not like that. I pace myself and there are days in Vegas where I don't drink at all. There is so much to enjoy there if you just remain sober. :)

My friend and I recently avoided hotel drama by staying at an Airbnb right off the strip on Koval. Next time I'd like to try a hotel tho. Also, it was indeed pretty annoying finding food after 10pm, so prepare well for that. Go to the ABC store for food and essential for cheap

Hi from Argentina! I just came back from a 1 week easter trip to Vegas, and your videos helped me a lot. Thank you very very much!
Regarding point nº22, after viewing Love and One at 21:30, you would be exiting at almoust 23:00 so all the good restaurants are close, but you should go to GRAND LUX CAFE at the Venetian, best place ever to eat in Vegas, not expensive and open 24 hours!

Prices on shows: You can also go to the box office for most of the older shows in the day when they’re not busy and ask if they can give you any good deals or discounts. This works very well if you’re watching a weekday show. When I was staying at NYNY a few years ago I got comped a companion ticket a few years ago for a weekday Zumanity show just by asking if there were any better deals available than what I had seen online.

So did we. I did forget about the tip that there's a difference enterance for them than taxis . I remembered on the 2nd day when I needed a ride and had to cancel it because I wasn't at the right pick up area. The night before we stayed at Circus Circus, the taxi and share ride pick up was all at the same entrance.
I also agree that all of the Lyft drivers were very friendly. I enjoyed talking to them, and learning about them and the city.

I'm travelling back to vegas in September for a holiday with my husband, I've been before but but he hasn't. Are ubers and lyfts safe to use? We don't really have them where I live, all taxis are legitimate where I am so unsure of how safe they are?

A few years ago we did the walk to the Rio bit. Realized it was a huge mistake about halfway across the bridge. Everything looks so close but came to discover the buildings are huge. That is when and where we started using Uber.

Living in Phoenix, I have no issues with the heat. Just need a cold drink and some shade and you are set. Walking down the strip would actually allow people to burn off some of that food. Aside from that I don't have an issue with the recommendations.
