Actually that is what the rules in my country say as well. However in real life motorbikers and cyclists tend to run in 2 lines for a reason. With a single line you actually have a higher risk of accidents as the forward vision and the chance of reacting to any danger is reduced. Forming two lines actually provides more space. Of course at the cost of taking up more space from others. But to be honest cars need to maintain a 1,5 metre distance on the side (in my country or Europe in general?) when passing cyclists anyway. That is actually better to perform using the other lane anyway. When cycling in two lanes (for more cyclists obviously not just 2) the reduced risk means that it is a reduced chance of accident for everybody (!). Cars and bikes as well. Another problem with cars that drivers are subject to more frustration. Given the potential speed of their vehicle and the reality of traffic jams and the actual crawling, car drivers tend to get angry more frequently and to a higher extent than others. The lane is too narrow to pass inside of, so the riders need to take the lane even if they are riding single file. Single file takes longer to pass than people riding abreast so it’s not logical to ride single file. You being a cyclist doesn’t mean anything, especially when your recommendations go against every advocacy group out there. Police are even starting to make videos to demonstrate to people like you why it’s better for cyclists to bunch together vs. being strung out in single file
Just because it isn't illegal to cycle 2 abreast common sense should prevail. Selfish cyclists clearly at fault here and examples like this are why we get a bad name. When the road is busy get in single file and let the cars past.
Or ride where it's not as busy like that ... Cars will win almost all the time if any of us cyclist wanna be a tough ass and ride side by side taking a full lane. Tbh he got what was coming for him... Could've just rode more cautiously and just let the cars go.
I’m a road cyclist as well in a country where riding 2 abreast is illegal. However, road cyclists are getting more and more aggressive, not stopping at stop signs and riding abreast intentionally ignoring traffic. Riding abreast often is for companionship and much less for safety reasons. I ride every day, and cringe each time I see riders ignoring traffic, either occupying the middle of lane when there is plenty room to allow traffic to pass, or riding abreast with no consideration for traffic. We need to use common sense and share the road.
Henry thompson: *"When the road is busy get in single file and let the cars past."* Let cars pass? Do study this video. There were no cars here that weren't able to pass these cyclists without any problems. What made it a problem, was the one driver who choose to rage over someone not breaking any traffic laws. That was the problem. Not cars not being able to get past.
Me too, but most of the cars drivers thinks that they are the only one paying taxes for the roads. And that should change. More investment in cycleways separated from cars are needed. Cheers!

Exactly. I fail to see why the cyclist didn't either: 1) steer to go by the car on their left by the curb where there was ample room, or 2) apply their front brake as well (which they never used) which would have considerably shortened their stopping distance and probably avoided the collision instead of just locking up the rear wheel and skidding into the car. I know it's easy to say this after the fact but one has to be ready for the unexpected. It's called defensive driving.
5 years too late on the comments, but maybe someone will find it useful info , try not to aim for the solid object if you are unable to stop before you’re going to ride into it
Obviously this driver should be in jail for assault but the rider in the orange jersey could have avoided the collision by using her brakes more effectively. In the video you can see she simply locks the rear wheel and doesn't even have a hand on the front brake. This provides almost no stopping power and as you can see in the video also makes it difficult to steer.
Yes the braking in this case is a little curious so my guess is after locked up the back he was too fixated on the impending collision to make quick and clear decision. My guess is the car brake checked them and caught them a bit off guard. That fall looked nasty and potentially a collar bone break 🤦♂️
Sorry, I have no sympathy for bikers. They are in the wrong 90 percent of the time. Welcome to the 21st century, where we ride in cars on roadways. Go ride in the park if you need to bicycle that badly. But then, bikers find ways to cause trouble in parks too.
Shame how the rider on the inside got to be the one knocked off while the one who’s all over the place and can’t seem to ride in a straight line didn’t...
I ride a bicycle everywhere I go, you guys give bike riders a bad name, do not take up so much of the road and then you will not have a problem, give the cars some space, you do not have the protection of a cage.
Yep, sure buddy. Dumbest comment ever. In your little mind the millions of drivers speeding, drink driving, and killing others don't give drivers a bad name, yet a few cyclists who never even hurt you do? Cyclists are legitimate road users, how little of the road are you suggesting they take up? When you understand some basics let me know how you think it works - cyclist is approx 1m wide, safe passing distance is approx. 1m., car width is 3m min (3.5m+ in US & Aus with SUV's). That makes a min. 5m needed, yet traffic lanes are 2.5m - 3.25m (Europe), 3m -3.5m (Australia), 3.7m (US), and that is not including the unusable gutter and kerb (say 0.3m)...how much of the lane should a cyclist use again? PS. Negative 1m is not the answer...
2 abreast is safer, as the passing car 'should' move into the next lane to overtake. It is just like a car parked on the side of the road - how come stupid drivers never complain about overtaking a parked car, yet their tiny mind explodes having to safely overtake 2 riders (which is in fact less space)??? If you had half a brain you would realise single file is twice as long as 2 abreast (stay with me, you can do it), ie. 1 bike length when 2 abreast, 2 bike lengths in single file. Therefore taking half as less time to overtake. Duhhh
Cyclists in my locality are legally entitled to hold their space as a full spot in the lane if needed. Can't speak for you or anyone else but I take the road in the city and in neighborhoods and I am legally allowed to.
Driver was a jerk and deserves what they get, but as a cyclist that wasn't very good braking technique ie Veering towards traffic and lock up your rear wheel without even using the front...
A whole other lane to use but would rather kill someone than move over a few feet for a couple of seconds.

As a cyclist turned ebiker and also a motorist these riders should stay in single profile when on a busy road regardless if 2 lanes or one, I also get pissed of with cyclist hoarding the road but not to a point I am gonna rammed them, I love cycling also but hate inconsiderate cyclist that ruins it for the rest of us
The lane is too narrow to pass inside of, so the riders need to take the lane even if they are riding single file.

¿No denuncian a ese hombre por atropello y abandono de heridos?
you are looking for trouble if you ride two abress
@@henryangus6934just be all the dopamine when we ride 🤣🤣
Henry thompson: *"When the road is busy get in single file and let the cars past."* Let cars pass? Do study this video. There were no cars here that weren't able to pass these cyclists without any problems. What made it a problem, was the one driver who choose to rage over someone not breaking any traffic laws. That was the problem. Not cars not being able to get past.
This is why I ride ON TRAILS ONLY!
Me too, but most of the cars drivers thinks that they are the only one paying taxes for the roads. And that should change. More investment in cycleways separated from cars are needed. Cheers!
@@jaimegomezmatas in Germany cyclist are luckily getting a lot more saferoads build in the next upcoming years and they will also have more rights on the road because Germany wants to become greenfriendly nonelectric cars will be banned until 2030.
I'm very excited for Germany's future and hope to see other countries follow the same natural and healthy way of travelling from A to B.
@@endoftime0 I do hope that other countries will follow Germany's example. Cheers!

Car drivers will do that on purpose. Sad.
car will alway come out best move over .
Where to get this tail light??
Driver's a rage-fueled drongo, but there's a metre-and-a-half between the car and the curb. Rider should've continued on that line. Bizarre.
Exactly. I fail to see why the cyclist didn't either:
1) steer to go by the car on their left by the curb where there was ample room, or
2) apply their front brake as well (which they never used) which would have considerably shortened their stopping distance and probably avoided the collision instead of just locking up the rear wheel and skidding into the car. I know it's easy to say this after the fact but one has to be ready for the unexpected. It's called defensive driving.
From what I saw, the guy on the bike road into the back of the car!
Hope that driver is in jail.
Not illegal to cycle 2 abreast in Sg if the road has 2 or more lanes
Looks like the rider in orange drove into the back of the car??
Look again! The rider was braking hard, the bike wheel was locked up, The rider couldn't stop soon enough.
@@Chitown388 piss poor cycling skills.
Riding single file would’ve prevented this event.
Driving in a legal manner would have prevented this event.
I'm a cyclist..the one thing to remember is the car is heavier..and the driver is a stranger..watch yourself out there..just saying..

Singaporean driver here, and I must say that this is bloody malicious and wrong. The driver should be jailed and suspended

Mad to ride 2 abreast.
Oh if i was that guy in front that cars windows would be smashed before driving away
Horrible to watch! But keep in mind when there's a lot of traffic that you should stay SINGLE FILE! Cyclists need to do there job as well
Always smart to pick a fight with a driver while riding…
So cyclists should just allow themselves to be bullied because someone may use a vehicle to assault them? Maybe in your mindset coward.
Happy in NL :)
So the cyclists rode into the back of a bloody great car and blames the car..

@@cufusmaximus The truth is hard to hear sometimes.
Duhhh
"I'm right" he cried, as he rode along
But he's just as dead as if he'd been wrong.
Ride sensibly, you only have one life.
this comment smells like someone who probably doesn't ride ever at all
Cyclists in my locality are legally entitled to hold their space as a full spot in the lane if needed. Can't speak for you or anyone else but I take the road in the city and in neighborhoods and I am legally allowed to.
Some of these people are lucky cyclists don't carry guns.
Nice👍🏻, take 1 lane again. They deserved it
Driver was a jerk and deserves what they get, but as a cyclist that wasn't very good braking technique ie Veering towards traffic and lock up your rear wheel without even using the front...
