A remake? We already have a Kirsten Dunst version with modern music & dialogue.
that movie has nothing to do with reality. it was a teenager movie, thats it.
@@another.universe1065 And yet this does? Honestly, what is accuracy in a period drama?
@@dasmysteryman12 How Marie Antoinette was. At least this version is much more accurate than the silly, airhead Kirsten Dunst played
@@19Rena96i loved the Kirsten Dunst version. It was such fun. Like a good night out.
@@19Rena96none is accurate to reality, the King probably didn't avoid her like that, and the other movie is not accurate either- it has maybe more accuracy when her brother explained Louis how things work by showing him lock but he haven't taken him to brothel to prostitute
"What sort of a husband are you?" reminded me right away of The Duchess, where Keira Knightley says in the same manner "what kind of man are you?"
@Ulisses Rest assured, the English are not more ignorant about other countries than the French.
That's exactly what I thought!! 😳
@Ulisses Englishwoman 😅 Deborah Davis
I thought the exact same thing! That’s one of my favorite movies. I thought Kisten Dunst made a perfect Marie Antoinette… we’ll see how Kiera does
Where can I watch this?
I wish they would have made the hair and makeup more accurate. Also shown how filthy the palace was and how crowded.
oh yes , the viewers are definetley interested into poop in the corners !!! the movie is about characters more than a detailed history lesson
I say the same thing about Marie Antoinette that I say about Catherine Howard, and with both the same equal amount of frustration and pity:
"That poor, stupid girl."
I know neither Marie nor Louis really knew how bad things were for a lot of people in France and that was because the court was designed to be as far away from (and above) the people as possible, but I still get the feeling that not many people see genuine naivety and ignorance as a good excuse, and that just as many people would argue 'They're the king and queen, they're supposed to know!'
They were actually very aware of the levels of poverty in their country and were very well-known for their charitable efforts. Unfortunately, they inherited an enormous deficit with the crown, and so their efforts were hamstrung.
She wasn't some kind of naive non entity, but someone who really played court politics (she certainly had more political grounding - firmly in arch conservative side - than her husband, who mainly defaulted to whoever he last spoke to). She duplicitously dealt with various moderate revolutionaries and reformists and conspired with France's enemies: although there was a lot of nonsense written about her, she did ultimately commit treason.
@Tracchofyre Very astute of you.
@@Praefectus95 indeed. In the beginning Louis tried several reforms but was blocked by ministers and nobility. Very sad.
Idk you sound pretty stupid rn making assumptions like you personally lived through it and knew her
Loved the show, very entertaining but I do think they over glamorised the era. People were not hygienic and probably not as crazy back then either.
They definitely were not hygenic but Louis XVI was known to bathe regularly if I am not mistaken.

I am looking for a good movie or series about her. Some people said that 2006 version was like a fancy nothing too serious about the history. Is this series worth to watch it? Or any upcoming season2???
This first season focused on how Marie Antoinette's relationship with Louis XVI and his family. There is season 2 but they have not announced the release date yet. For me, season one is entertaining though.
Sofia Coppola did it better.
I hope this one has a happy ending.
The only happy endings you will see in regard of a Queen happy ending is Queen Charlotte who had 15 children with her husband now that tells you Charlotte had a wonderful marriage and she is black. Netflix is bring a series about her look up the trailer.
I bet you are not even being ironic.
When it will be came?
Wenn man das einfach nur wegen Emilia Schüle gucken wird☺️
Wann kommen endlich die neuen Folgen ???
Why do I feel like every "historical" movie is another Netflix product?
Maybe, because they all look like the same.
Still prefer the 2006s version, by far.
Anyway, still hoping for the best, and congrats to BBC, which always does amazing works. 😊
The Empress (2022) was actually really well presented. Terrible show but sublime cinematography.
The creators of ‘The Favourite’ are really going after every European Royal Family. Nice.
For what I’ve been researching and read about the real life of Marie Antoinette none of these movies make justice to her. She was definitely a case of the wrong person at the wrong time. Yes, she liked to party, gamble, and splurge. But that was also expected of the royalty of the time. When she showed a more simple version of herself to the French people, they’d criticize her, then she’d show up in elaborate and expensive gowns and jewels, and they’d continue to criticize her. She ran charities for the people, and she’s known to have been a person of easy nature, good spirits. The French Revolution broke, they had no prove of any crimes against her, and yet she was murdered for “justice”. I am not an expert, far from it, I just enjoy history. And to me it would be refreshing to see a new movie that portrays her since childhood, how she was groomed for her position as Queen in French court and what all that entailed, up to her tragic destiny. Much of her history is often overlooked by the “ oh yeah she spent a lot and liked to party and gamble”!

I swear the English world is obsessed with the French royalty... I lost count of how many films and series about them.
Wo ist den dieser Film ?? Wo kann man anschaue?
I enjoyed 'Versailles' by the same production company much more. This seems a bit more like 'fantasy' Alice in Wonderland type stuff and not a lot of dialogue to follow. I'm only on ep 2 though.
Nothing will bit Sofia Coppola's film with Kirsten Dunst.
How can this be watched?
i love the film much better
Seriously, do we need another Marie Antoinette story? There are so many compelling stories in history, we do producers always focus on so few?
They’ll be more I bet 😂
I was thinking the same thing. Like, it may be a good show, but another one?!
i mean.. the last movie with kirsten dunst was trash, so yes, we do need another accurate adapation.
Joanna The Mad would be awesome
I do need another one; but whatever is "the Rose of Versailles" by Ryoko Ikeda 😢😢😢😢
Hello please tell me when is the ninth episode of this series
Emilia Schüle is so gorgeous in those outfits. Watching only for her.
This will be diverse for no reason at all, so I'll stick with Kirsten Dunst's version.
Is this out in the States yet?
At least she looks close to the right age, a 30-something Kirsten dunst playing a 15 year old dauphine was just silly.
She was 24 when that movie was made. 😅😂
She was the right age but the King looked too old in that movie with Dunst
Where to watch this series?
Disney+
BBC iplayer
Just one question why are the sisters always at court?
I don't think an Austrian royal would have shouted at her husband like that in those times. Kirsten Dunst portray was more realistic even though in those times it had quite a modern touch. This one seems like a feminist version.
Great show but why can't they have used french actors?
Why don't we get a movie or series of other royals our courtiers? Madame de Montespan, La Palatine, Madame de Pompadour?
Series and movies are made about things and people already known and not to expand knowledge; that's also rather why old movies get remade and it's all about sequels.
@@felicity1877 I'm sorry, but this sounds quite superficial. It's not about knowledge, however there are plenty of remarcable characters, like the ones I mentioned.
@@magikopa indeed, you’re right; my comment was more referring to the superficial film industry - cash with popular things as a success formula and not risking too much even if there would be such good ideas…so I was not referring my „own opinion“
@@felicity1877 I can see your point! And, taking the current habits of the Hollywood industry, it's sort of tragic, to see everyone repeating formulas.
Whilst this was fun to watch I do hope that one day someone will actually make a more historically accurate version. I think its about time we showed the lady as she was. Plain, yes she was no great beauty, she dressed well for sure but in later years she was as big as a house. Also i feel every version doesnt want to give much credence to her alleged promiscuity, where are all the orgies and such?
Why has the BBC said this was uploaded today when it’s 11 months since?
This was brilliant!
Black Marie Antoinette coming soon
Cuántos capítulos son?
I really like this series but it was focusing too much of King and queen consumating the marriage, plenty of intercourse scenes, it was ok - interesting to watch. In Sofia Copolla movie the King looked too old. In this series he looked younger but this running away from Marie behaviour was slightly off to look at and annoying. Copolla got it right that her brother had to come from Austria and educate the King about things by comparing things to door lock, In the series the King went to brothel which wasn't that accurate. Both movies got some things right, some not really. BBC modernised this story a little, maybe if they kept to raw facts it could be more accurate but boring.
Married at 14 😮 tut tut
Her coloring is very off for Marie Antoinette. Who was a blue eyed strawberry blonde.
how many shows about Marie Antoinette do we need?😂
How many shows of Dracula do we need? 🤔🤔
there is no any maria antoinette show/movies. at least in english language. 2006 movie was a chick lit movie with a happy ending. while there are thousands of anne boleyn,we have no show about revulotion

I never get enough😂😂😂
This and the Dutchess are a poor ripp off of Sophia Coppola's Marie Atoinette! She did it first and best for this generation!
Season 2 pls
Assassin brotherhood will get her last episode
I dont think maria antoinette yelled at louis 16, they may have had their arguments but louis’ problem wasn’t impotence, he was a dork that had no idea what went behind ruling a country. What caused them their heads was his empathy and his soft nature. Other kings would have handled the population rising very differently
He was not impotent, evidently, and he was smart enough to be King, however his idiot of a governor thought being shy was a good thing for being King. It can be, humility, but not inaction. Honestly yeah he was way too nice to his people, who murdered him.
i read it was something wrong with his foreskin not detaching properly.
@@somegenerichandle That is not accepted anymore but it was a popular claim in the 20th Century.

Could not even finish watching the first part, another example of pure woke nonsense.
Doesn't seem very realistic.... over dramatized and too "Hollywood". But I guess they have to make it that way to keep people's attention.
Painful show to watch if one knows the real story about her. The true story is exciting enough--why did they have to twist everything around and make up a new one?
Is not a documentary 😑😑😑😑 is based on their story is fun to watch
Oh no…. You cant redo after Cappola’s vision. That was iconic.
There have been several since that one.
Im sure this not even 70% accurate..i just rather re watch the 2006s Sofia Coppola's version
It's not any more accurate...lol
Watched the recent episode.
I actually don’t think there is any decent modern takes on the life of Marie Antoinette.
I thought this was beautifully done. The actor returned Marie Antoinette as a 3D person, with feelings and consequences to her actions. Stark contrast to Kirsten Dunst’s dull air head portrayal.
I liked the foreshadowing of the oncoming revolution, such as Antoinette seeing Princess Lamballe’s head on a spike during her Labour.
The drama also brings Louis XVI beautifully to life and brings a raw emotion to how the French royal family functioned at that time.
My only down points would be that the fashion is hugely lacking, and there is an overuse of the costumes.
Marie Antoinette was incredibly fashionable and changed her outfit several times a day.
Another being I would have liked to have seen Marie Antoinette as Dauphine for longer. She held that position for 4 years, with many interesting stories to be had within it.
Yeah I agree about that last bit especially. I also liked the fore-shadowing of her being hated for being an Austrian at the Vioux-de-Vicomte.
I also noticed that, designers are cutting on expenses or know very little about that era fashion style and extravagant taste. But i try to understand since this productions dont have a lot to invest in so many things at the same time.
Yes, just yell at the King,no biggie
I wanna see marie antoinette and catherine of russia from the show the great together lol hahaa
Oops. Sorry. For a second I thought I was watching a trailer for Sophia Coppola's Marie Antoinette. (Since this feels like a poor copy...)
Yep. It is official. My Marie Antoinette Lego minifigure looks more like the real deal than this trailer.
If you know something about Marie Antoinette and about XVIII century history you mind find this series very annoying.
But besides lacking historical accuracy and effort to makes everyone looks miserable stupid and pathetic they clearly based many scenes on Sofia Coppola movie with really bad results because her movie is iconic when this series is ridiculous, quite boring and acting is really questionable.
Instead of taking new approach to MA story, the story portray her as misunderstood heroine lost in sinister world of Versailles framed as golden cage. We saw that milion times with all stereotypes and simplifications.
Costumes are nice too look at but average on quality and many make up, hair and styling options are in "they tried but failed" mode.
Overall this series is perfect example how not make costume drama in 2023, but I am sure many will love it as middle men loves to get delivered simplified Ind insulting image on XVIII century.
This is such an amazing series
Emilia Schüle? ❤❤❤
Going to be interesting to see this after 'Chevalier' comes out - in the trailer for the movie they seemed to be showing a nasty or at least elitist side to her.
Agreed, I think they'll make her more dislikable in Chevalier. I really liked Marie Antoinette in this series despite her being ignorant and naive.
Another movie. We need a series on the French Revolution and napoleonic ears but yes let’s do another story on Maria a rather unremarkable rich pompous women that destroyed her husband legacy by her burgaoise behavior

Seems can't compare to Kirsten Dunst's version of Marie Antoinette.
I enjoyed The Favourite but I feel it kept relatively close to the real characters of the historical figures. This looks like it is receiving the Hulu Catherine the Great treatment
where it is high farce passed off as history. Also, it doesn't even look much like it should. The hair seems very wrong (where is the powder?) and it is Versailles for God's
sake. Eighteen rules of etiquette for everything. Her walking barefoot on that railing? Just no. Marie Antoinette was a prettyish girl with a large Hapsburg chin who came
from a large loving family and was thrown into the Bizarro world of Versailles with an impotent husband. Yeah, she screwed up and made mistakes but I doubt if this show
is going to do her any justice.
Dont forget the hapsburg lip...and the receding hairline...
did she muff dive and scissor tho
It is not accurate, they make a point about etiquette and how she broke, historically she did as well, it and finally Louis XVI was not impotent just ignorant as to how the mechanics of the act works.
