Manuel Quezon is the first president of the Philippine Commonwealth during the time when we were still under American occupation.
The city is named after him, and his face is on the 20 peso bill.

That guy who told you that you're not allowed to talk on the train is bullshitting. Please don't mind him, there is no rule like that in the Philippines. What wouldn't be allowed is to talk very loudly on a train full of people which is only simple etiquette.

@@TravelstoFreedom It may seem strange to you, but discouraging people from talking in a crowded place, even with their face mask on, was part of our country's covid-19 health protocol. In the face of the still existing certain variants of this dreaded virus, though not as deadly as before, that continue to still hit people, especially the elderly and so called co - morbid people, this simple precautionary measure is still deemed necessary to help prevent the further spread of this unseen enemy.

Yey, you got to visit Eastwood :) It's actually a commercial district like BGC, but it's smaller. Some call it mini San Francisco. Been to SF many years ago and the architecture of the buildings do look a bit similar. They even have a tram there that looks like a SF cable car. It's free to ride. It just goes around Eastwood during the day. (Not sure up to what time.)
Dion, just go clothes shopping in SM Megamall in Ortigas Center. It's a huge mall with a huge dept. store (like Mall of Asia). It's in Mandaluyong too where you're staying. :)
Pres. Manuel Quezon is in the 20 peso bill btw. He's the second president of PH but was the first president of the Commonwealth, which was the transitional government before full independence. :)

Btw, someone mentioned here about what Pres. Quezon did for some Jews after the war. Another thing you might find interesting is that the Philippines was actually the only Asian country who voted for the establishment of the nation of Israel in 1947. That's why Israel gave Filipino tourists visa-free access to Israel (but only for 90 days stay i think.)

Kinda surprising that a person would approach you and tell you that you can't talk on the train. The no talking was implemented during the height of COVID surges especially the Delta and Omicron surges. Still I think you can talk on the trains now, but yes if you see people aren't talking on train best to do as the Romans do. Glad you made it to Eastwood City the OG BGC. Eastwood started the trend of small pocket city.

*If you ask "I'll go to Quezon City", no one will answer you directly because you have to be specific on the district. Quezon City comprises 1/4 of Metro Manila in both land nnd population.
*The northern stations of MRT are located in Quezon City
*Maybe you can't go in the museum because it's about 5pm?
*Manuel Quezon is the 2nd president of the Philippines (the 1st president during the American Occupation period)
*Eastwood is just one of the business districts in QC. QC itself has a mostly suburban vibe compared to Manila, with more open spaces.

Great stuff. Of course there are several malls selling clothes. You need to return to Eastwood city. Also, thanks for the tour of the Quezon city monument and circle. Did you also know that President Quezon was responsible for taking in 1,500 European Jews during WW2? That it was the only country in the world to do so? That the Jews to this day are forever grateful? Check it out. Thanks for the lovely tour and the laughs along the way. Cheers from rainy and cold Spain.

Well, hello to my neck in the woods, like literally a few km north from the Quezon Memorial Circle ("the Statue"), the shrine under which the man himself, the Commonwealth president Manuel L. Quezon, is buried. This place is almost *never* featured in vlogs. Didn't GoogleMaps point you Maginhawa Street where there's loads of other holes-in-the-wall eats? *sad*
(Great to see you take the train, btw. Best way to zip through north-to-south EDSA and Metro Manila's cities except during the morning and afternoon rush hours). If you fancy returning to this part of QC, there will be the traditional Lantern Parade at the premiere state uni University of the Philippines-Diliman campus (UP DIliman) on 21 December 2022 starting at 4pm, the 1st in-person event since 2019. Take a UP Campus jeep from the base of the Quezon Ave. MRT station along Quezon Avenue. Anyway, there would have been other places to go within the perimeter of the Memorial Circle like the Parks and Wildlife center which is better visited from mid-afternoon-the area can get generally dark pretty quickly: "Diliman" is from "dilim," ie. dark; contextually, therefore "Diliman" would mean "[(the area) where it is] dark." QC is topographically higher than Makati and Manila, therefore, where you ended at in Eastwood is northeast of the Memorial Circle and down the valley. Come around next time, maybe?

    As a QC girl:
    1. There are food stalls in Quezon Circle.
    2. I believe you passed through yhr largest university in the Philippines, where are a lot really cheap food.
    3. No, Eastwood is not "the mall" in QC, it's a smaller bgc/makati, mostly young professionals and a place for higher middle class . SM North and Trinoma, which are just near The Circle, are a lot better.
