Great introduction to the different uses of this item. I borrowed one from a friend and it was stuck in Trimmer position. I needed it to weed whack and you showed me how to do it. I figured it went into a flat position and you definitely showed me how. Thank you so much!
Just bought mine yesterday 2022 - looking forward to using it. Great tutorial Chuck !! You took it through its paces and explained everything in detail - Keep up the good work!! Thank you very much!!
Thank you so much, you made it a whole lot easier for us to use this edger/trimmer that we just bought at the Home Depot today. The instructions that came with it wasn't as clear and easy to follow. Your video saved the day for us. Thank you so very much.
Hello, My Husband just picked up one today and the instructions inside are awful. Praise be to God that you made a video. After watching your video I had this put together in no time. Thank you so much!!!
I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

I contacted Ryobi to ask if they have metal blades you can buy for edging since the plastic ones wear out when they scrape cement. The rep said the blades are meant for brush and bushes (things thicker than grass). She said to do edging, if you have the attachment-capable wacker/edger tool, you need to buy the edger attachment (RYEDG12). It has metal blades and is designed to do lawn edging. It’s about $75 at Home Depot. Thanks to your review, I’m about to go get the tool now (I’ll get the attachment later). Also (for anybody new to doing their own yard work like me), she said the 40v 4 amp battery is interchangeable with the their lawnmower’s 40v 6 amp battery. It just doesn’t have as much power so it doesn’t last as long.
I have the 40v lawn mower. So I went to Home Depot and looked at that 40v edger-trimmer. Judas Priest, you need Popeye like forearms to handle that thing! The weight was a deal breaker. @@josephcampese5347 I agree with you completely. The weight was too much. At the end of the day if you remember to recharge your batteries, you will have a full battery for your lawn mower with the 40v battery and a full battery for your trimmer with the 18v. No issue.
Thanks for this. My husband put the guard on backwards 2 yrs ago- I struggled every time! Now that I was able to put it in the correct position- I can trim without injury. Ty
Thank you for explaining in detail. It's super easy to follow your instructions. You saved the day today with the blade and string using both is okay for trimming. Especially how you showed to adjust as you go along. Thanks Again! It's great having easy step by step instructions!

I never would have figured out how to put this thing together without your video. Thanks! I have found that the guard doesn't fit down on one of the holes, so I'll just have to work around that.
I bought this same product. I was unable to find the replace blades so I bought the 2 in 1 line/bladed head. It was compatible with this product. However, the blade was ate up very quickly, and although it comes with additional blades, they didn't fit securely once I started edging. I'm stuck with just using the string. And you mentioned in the video switching back and forth with the pedal may wear over time...you're right. It's a struggle to return back to weed wacking after edging. Overall, after 2 months of using this product, I would not recommend it.
Just picked up from Home Depot. My box included a leaf blower as well. I didnt see the plastic blades in mine but they may still be in the box. Got those and 4amp hour battery for $89🎉
I recently bought one of these, and two things come to mind: 1. I suspect that the unit is good quality, but it sure doesn't feel like it. It is very lightweight and there is a LOT of cheap looking plastic. 2. The automatic line feed doesn't work properly. The line keeps getting stuck and not advancing at each start the way it should, so I have to stop and take it apart to manually bring more line out. Otherwise I must say it works very well and is easy to use.
Good quality? What turnip truck did you fall off of? Seriously? Ryobi is GARBAGE! Their products are the antithesis of quality. That POS is priced way to high and should never be sold at a reputable hardware store. Ryobi's products should be sold at a dollar store and be advertised as disposable for one time use only because that's about all you'll get from a ryobi trimmer or any other of their cheaply made products.
@@tritosac You have good points. And I will point out that I said that this unit is lightweight and feels very cheap. I bought the fucking thing only because my 15 year old Troy-Bilt had finally died and I needed a weed whip and a blower, and Home Depot had a Ryobi combo for $90. The blower is AWESOME, the cheesy weed whip? Not so much. I'm just going to run it into the ground and see how long it lasts. 3-4-5 years? Fine. 6 months? Fine! Into the trash it goes. Then I'm going to do it right and do what I should have done to begin with and buy an electric Stihl. Thanx!
Don't know why anyone would badmouth Ryobi. I have 10 different drills and other tools. I use them in construction. Best bang for your buck. I still have blue tools running. Those are some of the first built. As good as my DeWalt and half price. Very handy having a long standing 18 volt system. I do have bothe trimmers. This model and the heavier duty (also heavier) model. I must confess that I bought this model for 20.00 at garage sale site with new battery so it was a win for me. The 18 volt blower is one of my favorites. Blow out garage, sidewalks, patios, porches and water off car after washing. Not too good on yard but saves a ton of arm swinging from brooming.
When he put the blades on I got a giddy grin on my face knowing he'd cause destruction in spectacular fashion. I'd use the blades on thick weeds, no where near hard surfaces like that.
I just bought this bc I don't want to mess with mixing gas and all that goes into a gas powered edger any more. Gas powered edger's and weed whackers are heavy, they can flood, they can be persnickety and you have to pull start them which I personally would rather just get on with my yard work and not have to mess with all that goes into a gas powered tool. That aside, I also think that it is much better for the environment to use a rechargeable tool and not need gas so that was my ultimate selling point. NOT needing to mess around with the fuel and the 2 stoke crap that is standard with most weed eaters and edger's was my reason for trying this new one. That said, It is much better for the environment and is also MUCH lighter and quieter to use. It is REALLY quite and there is NO SMELL. It really has all the power and then some that a gas powered one has but with out all the fuss and muss. Out of the box it came with some line already pre-loaded. Not much I assume. I did find that I went thru the line that was pre loaded when I bought it really fast, so I needed to replace the line after a few uses BUT it had been a few months since I needed to do edging along the concrete and I am still learning how to position and use the really great edging guide to the proper position so maybe now that I have a feel for the edging guide position and how to use the edging function/swivel wheel guide, I can go longer with the string option. Like I said, I am willing to bet that they only load a small amount of string in it for sale so there is a good possibility that once I load it with the replacement string that it will last much longer, but I DIDI use it for 2 months before I needed to replace the string. Pros: I love the cordless mobility. I love how light it is and now maneuverable the weed eating vs edging functions are. I love that it is VERY powerful. Even against the gas powered one I already have. The battery charges fast and I don't need to charge it very often. Although my yard might be smaller than say someone who has acres to maintain, I have used it for 2 months each weekend and only had to charge it once. I have not tried using the blades yet so I have no input on those, but so far this is a really good yard tool. It is super versatile and you can take it anywhere on your property with out needing to lug a cord or gas can for refills. Cons: if you get stuck in "the bush" with out a power source, you're screwed., but it does last a really long time. If you like the smell of the 2 stroke engine, your screwed. If you live in Kansas, and plan on using this to edge you're fields, you probably want to get more line and a few extra battery packs. and lastly, If the weekend of yard work means fiddle farting with that 2 stroke that your dad gave you or you have had since you graduated from college, YOU ARE STILL SCEWED. Get with the program and replace it with one. you wont be disappointed. If you are looking for this as a bush Wacker, I think that it DEF has the power to do the job. But this guy might have a good point on the blades. Bush whacking is very much a different animal than simple maintained grass weed eating and edging. If you are trying to get started with this on a neglected lawn then it WILL take its toll on the string line/ blades as well as if you're talking about removing stalks of vegetation vs just upkeeping a lawn. I don't know how the blades will hold up to that type of heavy duty work in the yard,. Maybe there are a universal blade that can be swapped out for another type of more ridged blade? Over all. I give this a 9 out of 10 for all the reasons I have stated. The only downfall is the excessive string and blade wear. But I think that if this is a tool that is used to maintain rather than mitigate a over gown lawn and once you get your lawn into shape and learn the way the edging guide works, it will preform beautifully in the weekly maintenance that you need. It just might be the best replacement for the convention gas powered edger/weed eater you have been used to.
When I first assembled mine, first time I pulled the trigger, the sting trim blade ripped right off. I returned it and got another one. Same thing happened again. This time I super glued it back in place and out a sharp edge on it with a file. Worked fine after that. Your impression of the blades not working is because you did not use them for their intended use. Not designed for edging.
You have to reverse the screw where the line cuts automatically if to long. I turn around the screw cut piece and line works much better. Look on inside of the cover and u will see it UN screw the tab and reverse it.
I always save my empty “spools” and restring them myself with a much more larger and economical roll. I did it with my old 40v model, and will continue to do it with this one. It doesn’t take that much time. Just do it at night while watching the old idiot box 😂 ...soon you’ll have ten done! You’ll go broke buying those Ryobi 3 packs, Lol.
You know its funny my uncle still uses his old Lawn Mower Style trimmer the kind that use a handle to lower the sideways blade into place same one he has had since 1973 had to rebuild it once but lawn looks great...The old timer knows something we dont?? HA HA
Good video, but use the wheel to run along the concrete. I edge my grass in one pass. Don’t keep going back and forth. Mine is straight as opposed to yours. Plastic blades are NOT for edging. Read your instructions before you do a video. Otherwise a good job.
when you put the new plastic blades on put 2 small metal washers on each side of the blade when putting the screw back in that will limit the wobble of the plastic blade and keep it more center
I wish mine came with those blades. I just got one that came with a leaf blower and the string keeps feeding while im using it and then once the guard cuts it to length, the string gets caught underneath the head, rinse and repeat. Basically i havent even been able to see how it even cuts grass. All its done is cut itself
great tutorial. buying one tomorrow 4 years later the unit looks the same. those plastic blades are worthless. Maybe they are not supposed to be used for that task
The reason you were eating up so much line was because you were cutting more concrete than you were grass 😂 and you definitely don't use those plastic blades for edging. Smh. Those are just used strictly for trimming
Just bought one yesterday and am looking for info about operation. One thing seems to be an issue to me. Every time you release the finger trigger to stop the motor, new line is automatically fed out. I'm very new to doing this myself while hubby is temporary away, so I stop and start a lot! Seems like I'm wasting bunches of line and each reel won't last long. Maybe this isn't the tool for me? Are they ALL like this?
@@MrsCasa the line is supposed to feed that way on this model. Traditional weed wackers feed by bumping the end on the ground which pushes a button and releases more line. After doing it enough times you'll figure out an efficient route around your yard and won't be starting and stopping as much. The reels on these are extremely easy to replace though so I wouldn't worry about wasting too much line as long as you buy extra reels. Good luck!
@@Billy-rz1jg thanks for the reply! I did get a bit better with it, I think at least. Honestly, I just stopped treating it so gingerly and worrying about hitting other objects with line (like fence). Tried the edger part, and even the other tool (plastic blades) to trim a shrub. Did it look professional? No. Did it look as good as when my husband does it? No. Did it look better than before I started? Yep. Gotta admit, I'm just a little bit proud of myself. :)
i had to file down the guard holes to make it fit but it works great now. I got the trimmer and blower combo at Home Depot for 154$ and a drill for 79$ which seems expensive for a drill but i am very happy with all the tools at a decent price.
I bought this a few weeks ago and I love it. Only thing I hate is I was weed eating and my line wasn’t trimming as I was working. I looked and my trimmer had gotten knocked off somehow
Just bought this. I never had a string trimmer with the blade attachment before. I assumed those are just for cutting high grass & weeds because if you hit rocks or cement - they are finished.
🤬 I was hoping to find a video to tell me how to fix the swivel head whenever you're changing from trimmer to edger. Right now I can only use it for edging because swivel head won't stay locked in the trimmer position
How does this 18v version compare to the older 40v trimmer/edger? I keep replacing the motor on my 40v because i can’t find that model anywhere anymore. Would it be worth just going to the 18v model since they still make it? I like the power of the 40v. I’m in a pickle here.
I really enjoyed the video! Nice job! I would like to have seen the blades in action with tough overgrowth around fences. I don't plan to use this as much as an edger but to trim the walls of my back patio and around the house. How did the blades do with strong weeds and over-growth? I moved into a home that did not have much lawn care, so I want to cut down the aggressive weeds around my patio walls. Thoughts?
The 3-pack spools don't last long, and they don't deploy well because my spools were rung haphazardly from the factory and were getting stuck. I got better at edging at High speed and tilting the unit away from the sidewalk if I want more of a swath or nice ditching in the soil- more definition. I'll remove the cutter to see if that preserves the line if I don't keep stopping and starting, thus deploying more stirng-length each time.
Great vid. Learned something from watching and the comments on the blades. Will test it out tomorrow. I wonder i you can switch to a .90 or .95 line? Have quite a bit from my gas whacker.
Ditto Patrick Kimbrell...the plastic blades aren't designed for edging...they are for (thick) grass/weeds etc...and not designed to be used against a fence, concrete, or building. And the reason the string got ate up so fast...it was due to the concrete. If your grass hadn't overgrown so far over the concrete...it would have lasted longer...as well as if you had gone in a straight line instead of back and forth. But thanks for the video...it was useful to see how the trimmer performed. :-)
I tried to use this trimmer but the wire keep coming out too long and it stuck in to the mechine so I tried to release either thing on that but still didnt work, please show me how to hold and release that thing to make it work. Thanks
Apparently while releasing the trigger it advances more string. I had a horrible time yesterday (first time using it). I’ve been reading reviews and watching videos to learn more. The instructions are terrible. They should have created a separate button to release more string, not the same trigger that enables it to go.
You were luckier than me. The string kept twisting around the spool and jamming. I am ready to return the darn thing. I have a very small backyard. I can't even do 6 inches before it jams. Called Ryobi and was told I need to rewind the string. What is the point? It still did it. This is my 7th Ryobi tool and the first time I have an issue. Thanks for the video though.
@@AllThingsCool yes. I found out the real problem was that the spool was not wound correctly. It had to be completely unwound and rewound. Once I figured that out I was good to go.
I purchased same weed wacker as you, in the box they gave me bonus set of replacement blades. But as you see tbose screws holing blade in head and not replaceable. I found and had to buy another head that allows blade to be changed but those screws plastic. At 20.00 it lasted 5 min.blade chewed and one screw destroyed. Ryobe does not seem tomake lasting head for replacing blades. replacing the entire head again with universal head tuff- line has blade head w plastic and metal, not sure if they'll fit. I also bought a heavy duty edger blade, not sure if my attachment again not sure if it can go on this model. P2008VNM. Ryobe is not very helpfull.
my unit same as yours used a spooll of string in 20 minutes i it sucks so i fixed it to not feed line out till i do it now the line is strong and the auto cut bladr is not shart and it pulls out more than is needed
I use copper wire 14, 100 ft. Roll, strip off plastic insulation if you want. Coat hanger wire works too. Sometimes they break off if you hit hard surfaces just be careful. Cut the lengths just short of the weed walker cutter. I mount the wires on the blades thing that comes with the wacker. Just slip through the space, bend in half and twist = 4 wire blades. For edging I roll the wheel on the grass. One more thing, during this world wide crisis, plain and simple, Christ Jesus " is the ONLY hope for man kind". The Lord bless you.
I like your idea about coat hanger or 14ga. electric wire . Very clever but wear good eye and or face protection. I also thank you for the blessing. Your thinking about the trimmer and also about Jesus is spot on. True, He is our only hope! He know everyone of us, personally. Jesus said, to his followers , after his Resurrection, "I have engraved you on the palms of my hands".
Can you use the one with the plastic blades to mow lawn? Or does it have to be string?...First timer here! Btw,I say lawn cuz I don’t have a mower so trying to use what I have available.thank you!
The plastic edger blades are flimsy and not suitable for edging. HD has Rino plastic cutting blades that I use with my gas edger they are great. Not sure you can make the fit this edger??
The instructions say now to use the blades for edging. Would be why they wore down so badly. You can easily replace the string so that's why you'd use that. The plastic blades are for tougher thicker weeds. Read the instructions!
I own this model & it bites. The motor spindle shaft where the line spool goes heats up so hot that the line melts into itself. So I have wasted 30.00 for line I can’t use. The wing blades I call them are not replaceable. You have to buy the whole piece. Ryobi says I need to constantly spray lubricant with Teflon on the spool line so it won’t over heat & melt. Correction… I have the 40 volt RT40022 model not the one you are demonstrating. Maybe yours doesn’t melt the line. 15 minutes into trimming there goes the line , melted into its self.
@@AllThingsCool Mine is the 40 volt RY40022 so I don’t own the model you are using, but it has the single line & the foot converter to edge with. My lot is about a quarter of an acre a bit more maybe. In Houston TX it’s mandatory to have privacy fences so it’s a lot trimming. Still with in 15 minutes or so the line melts. The motor housing of mine is silver gray. I was incorrect on commenting on your model. I went to Lowe’s and bought the EGO 56 volt carbon shaft motorized string feeder. Love it. We do have the Ryobi 480 riding mower & the push mower. Those have been great. Thanks again.
@@AllThingsCool Ours just went bad. Looked at troubleshooting You Tube @ on line. Something to do with the PCB & a modual for the blade motor. Found out it’s an issue with many owners. I’ve been looking at EGO brand.
Say I just purchased one of ebay... I wanted to know what battery would you recommend since mine is tool only... Also can you switch the head on there with one of them universal quick feed head...?
i use a 4ah for edging and weed whipping i dont thing you can put a univesral head on it ...currently i use a new ryobi string trimmer with the bump feed that one i have a universal head on
We'll find out it should be coming in this week.... with that I have a couple of universal heads so ... I'll keep you posted... Thanks for getting back to me in a timely fashion... good to know about the batteries... I was thinking something like a 9amp like the milwaukee uses on thiers... The four amp will be fine, cost wise it'll cut down on some of the pricing vs. The bigger batteries... Great video, I'll be sure subscribe....
I used the plastic blades on tall grass and blades would fly off getting lost in the grass, string worked better.. The guard mounting screws (2 out of 3) flipping from trimmer to edger broke off.
Bought one of these today and the string cutter snapped right off the grass guard the very first time I pulled the trigger. Smh. Contacted ryobi this afternoon to ask for a replacement grass guard.
Quick question. My line cutting blade is not cutting the line anymore. Are there replacement parts for this piece available? I can't seem to find any online.
Question: Just bought today...does the grass deflector sit absolutely flat, or does it tilt a bit? I've had trouble getting the final bolt in and flat.
@@debraleonard8841 I was able to get it to sit into that third slot. Secured one of the slots half way down with one of the screws and then pulled the guard towards that last slot that wouldn't fit. It took some force but the plastic guard is flexible and snapped right in. After that I just screwed the remaining two slots. Was about to return it as well but it fits nice and snug now.
I cannot get this to go back to weedtrimming mode from edger. The step worked fine to get into edger but I can't get it back to trimming mode. Any suggestions? I've only used this item for short period but frustrated.

Then I'm going to do it right and do what I should have done to begin with and buy an electric Stihl. Thanx!
The auto line feed sucks

I am so glad I found this video!! I was so intimidated by this weed eater. Going to give it a try today!! Wish me luck :)
how did it go?
@@mrsuperbruce Really awesome!! I did not have to edge. I did the ditch weeds with it and it worked awesome. The blades are still perfect.
@@gingermullins8866 zI bought mine works great!
should have bought one a long time ago
When he put the blades on I got a giddy grin on my face knowing he'd cause destruction in spectacular fashion. I'd use the blades on thick weeds, no where near hard surfaces like that.
Yep. I tried that and they were ground down to nubs after a pass on one side of the driveway
Thank you for this extensive walkthrough !!
It just might be the best replacement for the convention gas powered edger/weed eater you have been used to.
also @Chuck Kososky nice video. Thanks for helping me switch put my string. Very nice job!
@@capecodoyster1 thanks !
I had the same problem the first time I used it. I thought I was doing something wrong. Bringing it back to the store. Thank you.
Same thing happened to me with two of them. Probably going to take it back and but a different brand.
HA HA
Yea those ones were the best, built tough
Good video, but use the wheel to run along the concrete. I edge my grass in one pass. Don’t keep going back and forth. Mine is straight as opposed to yours. Plastic blades are NOT for edging. Read your instructions before you do a video. Otherwise a good job.
when you put the new plastic blades on put 2 small metal washers on each side of the blade when putting the screw back in that will limit the wobble of the plastic blade and keep it more center
Thankyou
How do you take off the blades? Looks like a rivet keeps the blade in place. I have no tool for removing the rivet, no tool for re-attaching same.
Thanks for the assembly video! Though it's not complicated to put together the instructions on these suck.
I know what you mean lol
Thanks man this help me just got it the other day can’t wait to try it out tomorrow morning
Omg😔 the plastic blades are not for use in edges. The blades are only for weds.
There is a sticker that comes on the plastic blades that says to not use them for edging. That is why they look like that after you were done.
yea my fault on that one
I wish mine came with those blades. I just got one that came with a leaf blower and the string keeps feeding while im using it and then once the guard cuts it to length, the string gets caught underneath the head, rinse and repeat. Basically i havent even been able to see how it even cuts grass. All its done is cut itself
I have the same problem
great tutorial. buying one tomorrow 4 years later the unit looks the same. those plastic blades are worthless.
Good luck!
@@MrsCasa Same here :) I am trying to do this stuff but it can be hard.
@@MrsCasa At least you're not afraid to try. You'll get it with practice!
It would be helpful if you said which model trimmer you're showing, as there are more than one model of the 18v trimmer.
Instead of edging on cement I put edger on grass and it seems to prevent hitting the cement.
Thanks for video it really explained alot. I just bought one & can't get shield to fit on is it me or is there something wrong with it?
i had to file down the guard holes to make it fit but it works great now. I got the trimmer and blower combo at Home Depot for 154$ and a drill for 79$ which seems expensive for a drill but i am very happy with all the tools at a decent price.
Great video. Esp the part on how the plastic bodes got worn out so quickly!!
I bought this a few weeks ago and I love it. Only thing I hate is I was weed eating and my line wasn’t trimming as I was working. I looked and my trimmer had gotten knocked off somehow
Same here 🤦♀️ it's any way to fix it?
Thank you for showing it. It helped me put it together.
Just bought this. I never had a string trimmer with the blade attachment before. I assumed those are just for cutting high grass & weeds because if you hit rocks or cement - they are finished.
yup 👍
🤬 I was hoping to find a video to tell me how to fix the swivel head whenever you're changing from trimmer to edger. Right now I can only use it for edging because swivel head won't stay locked in the trimmer position
it'd just the gray level that locks in place and push it to unlock it pretty simple
Yep, comments are right.. instructions specify use the blades for thicker type weeds, that’s all. One of those, duhhh, moments.
Thanks for the video I appreciate it. Luckily it says it on my blades that they’re for trimming only. Thanks
Thanks for the review. The Manuels suck. It’s that nice convenient hand tool I’m interested in also. What is that?
Thank you for this video. Watching you I saw I had the cover incorrectly.
Thoughts?
I think this will work well for you. depending on how thick the weeds are you may go through your batteries quicker though
Great vid! Hope your camera wasn’t damaged while edging!
Great vid. Learned something from watching and the comments on the blades. Will test it out tomorrow. I wonder i you can switch to a .90 or .95 line? Have quite a bit from my gas whacker.
it won't fit in hole. I just tried tonight. Got a ton left over from my gas trimmer that quit
@@martinkruppenbacher2497 thx, I tried a few wks ago and realized that too. I guess we'll need to buy the actual size. Dont remember.
Manual says do not use the blade fitting for edging - only string for edging
I would think that replacing the plastic blades with stainless steel blades would be awesome
I tried lol
Great job!!!
I tried to use this trimmer but the wire keep coming out too long and it stuck in to the mechine so I tried to release either thing on that but still didnt work, please show me how to hold and release that thing to make it work. Thanks
Same here, no idea y the string keeps releasing and makes weird noise
Apparently while releasing the trigger it advances more string. I had a horrible time yesterday (first time using it). I’ve been reading reviews and watching videos to learn more. The instructions are terrible. They should have created a separate button to release more string, not the same trigger that enables it to go.
I have the same problem it makes it completely useless! Idk what to do

Need to see if Ryobi will come up with some stronger blades?????
You were luckier than me. The string kept twisting around the spool and jamming. I am ready to return the darn thing. I have a very small backyard. I can't even do 6 inches before it jams. Called Ryobi and was told I need to rewind the string. What is the point? It still did it. This is my 7th Ryobi tool and the first time I have an issue. Thanks for the video though.
do you have a blade on the inside of the shield that trims the string
@@AllThingsCool yes. I found out the real problem was that the spool was not wound correctly. It had to be completely unwound and rewound. Once I figured that out I was good to go.
Lets say I wanna do the whole yard, which do I use? String or the blades it comes with? I’m new to this 😬 thx again!
Thanks posting this video. Gave good information and knowledge. Thank you Sir.
my unit same as yours used a spooll of string in 20 minutes i it sucks so i fixed it to not feed line out till i do it now the line is strong and the auto cut bladr is not shart and it pulls out more than is needed
Thanks! good to know
Perfect video, thank you very much. Video made installation so easy.
Excellent video.

The instructions say now to use the blades for edging. Would be why they wore down so badly. You can easily replace the string so that's why you'd use that. The plastic blades are for tougher thicker weeds.
Read the instructions!
yea reading the instructions is where I failed in life 🙃
I own this model & it bites. 15 minutes into trimming there goes the line , melted into its self.
how much constant use are u doing with this... I haven't had this issue but I don't have a big yard either
Love it. Just purchased mine yesterday. The piece with plastic blades had sticker that said so NOT use for trimmer.
The operator's manual tells you what the blades are for. It doesn't mention using them for edging.
The instructions say do not use blades for edging. For bushes only.
Should the guard be upright if right up against the concrete? I’m sure this is a dumb question but I’m a noob
Where did you get that table from .
I think wayfair
U aren’t really supposed to use the blade units for edging, only string. The blades are meant for light duty brushcutting
I used the plastic blades on tall grass and blades would fly off getting lost in the grass, string worked better.. The guard mounting screws (2 out of 3) flipping from trimmer to edger broke off.
Great job 😊
Thanks!
It says right in the instructions that the blades are only for thick weeds and not for edging.
I see what you did there using the ryobi drill haha

Great video but per the manual, you are not supposed to use the blade for edging, the blade is actually to cut grass.
It says right on the blade assembly to not use for edging .
I'm having the same issue
it's flat
Any luck Debra? I can't get the 3 slots to line up flush before screwing it in.
No, no luck. It should be simple. There is a shape, its easy to see...but that third position sits on the edge not in the hole. I'm taking it back.
