- RYOBI ONE+ STRING TRIMMER/EDGER REVIEW
How to change string, and how to convert between edger/weed eater. One big battery runs about 45 minutes. Ryobi p2008 model.
Music: DJ QUADS
At the 2:26 mark your dog thinks to himself, "I'm going for it", and 14 seconds of pure bliss follows.
Crazy how something so simple as a good back scratch on the grass can make a dog so happy. We humans have forgotten the blissfulness of simplicity.
Came for the Ryobi review and got a dog rolling on the grass as a bonus. 😃
your doggy is stealing the show! thanks for the tips
Looks simple to use especially for us older folks. Thank you
Good review! I definitely switched from gas to this trimmer edger. I’ve had this ryobi going on my 3rd season with it. I found that those blade type plastic attachments don’t last very long and I mean they might get you through one cutting depending how thick the weeds are, so I stick to string. You can also save money by refilling the spools with string rather than buying new spools. It kicks butt. Now your first edging on a rough lawn will take a bit of work but once you cut out a straight line, it’s easy to maintain and keeps a professional look to your cut. Overall, no regrets. I love what ryobi has been doing over the years. I’m a first time homeowner and the interchangeable batteries for all their tools makes house projects much more efficient.
I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.
thank you for the lesson from a new homeowner who just bought this tool but had no idea how to use it - the spool change and trimmer lesson were perfect. Also, your doggie is the best prop all rolling in the grass behind you. so cute!
I have this device and always have trouble with the string getting jammed in between the rest of the string on the spool, or the string loosens and unravels which is a nightmare trying to fix. I purchased the edger with the metal blade and it’s like night and day. Does an incredible job!! I pretty much only use this for areas where the lawnmower won’t reach…
Thanks so so much for your great no nonsense video that was clear, right to the point and showed exactly how to use this tool helpful vs the many wanna be standup comedian guys who make you suffer through their performance before you get any information. I’m 79 yo small female who loves to work hard in a large yard and after watching your video was able to go out and use this tool easily with problem at all. Love your video, my new Ryobi trimmer/edger and your canine friend.
that dog was so happy!
Sawed-off border/aussie, funny rollin'
The dog! 😂
Came here for the switch from edger to trimmer. Too lazy to read the 5 manuals it came wit and of course it comes in edger mode. You had it in the video - Perfect! Thanks
Nice video....to the point and straight forward. Appreciate you adding the edger video part. This trimmer/edger holds the thicker more durable .080+ trimmer line also. Home Depot recently had a 'daily deal' on this trimmer/edger unit along with a Model# P2180 blower, 4.0 battery and charger as a combined deal for $109.00, free shipped to the door. 4.0 batteries are a must with this equipment. It was one of those deal you can't pass up. Just wiish RIDGID would offer lawn care equipment being they have a lifetime warranty that 'includes the batteries and charger' along with the tool(s) as long as you register them with RIDGID within 90 days of purchase.
Thank you for such a great video. I've never used an electric weeder before so your demo was exactly what I needed. It's easier than I thought it would be. Really glad I went with the battery-operated versus gas.
Don't buy it over heats I took mine back.
This is the first review video, in all of my life on youtube, that didn't completely annoy me. Thank you
🤣🤣🤣
Thank you so much for this video! I have never used a trimmer/edger before since I’ve always lived in apartments and never needed one, so I was looking all over for a “how to” video on using the ryobi trimmer/edger and came across your video and it was super helpful! Thank you!!
Sold! I want one!
I have a gas powered edger and 1 gas and 2 electric trimmers. I'd love to moved toward this option to have just one tool that can do both weed whacking and edging. I have several tools on the Ryobi 18V platform so, after watching your video, this is an easy decision. Thank you!
I bought one last year and haven't mastered how to use it, but after watching your video it looks simply enough. I am going to replace the line it tomorrow and get some weed eating and trimming done. Thanks for sharing.
Just bought this model today. Came with a battery and charger. Also included a new, more powerful leaf blower. Now have one to keep on the back porch for quick sweeping. All for $89 on sale
Had to watch twice dog distracted me. Lol
sew cffdd
I was paying attention until 2:27 when the puppy started to roll over and enjoy that awesome garden.
People buy things without knowing what they do and then whine when it doesn't work how they imagined. This is a single string trimmer and not a double string trimmer. It's meant for soft weed. Furthermore, the auto feed means that every time you start it, you're releasing more string. If you're one of those who are constantly starting and stopping, you're eating your spool string away. Know what you want to cut before you cut and plan adequately. I have this trimmer and a double string one with an attachment for thicker brush. Mind you, this trimmer comes with plastic shears that will cut way better than with it's 1 string.
Take the feed button off under the head, and remove the weights. Now it’s great! And doesn’t kill your string!
You can disable the auto feed by feeding the line through one of the notches in the spool before feeding out the string hole.
Doesn't the automatic line advancement feature waste a lot of line?
Can you restring your own spool or do you have to keep buying pre-strung spools from them???
I just bought the combo blower and trimmer/edger. Can’t wait to use it. Video sealed the deal
Lia if you got the combo I thinking of, the blower that comes with it is great! I use mine for work and home!
@@jpascal23 Perfect. That's what I want to get. Thanks Lia and Jake. Ray
Hey i was thinking buying one for my small yard as that 90 degrees thing looks very clever and kinda want one, but i would like to ask how long can you do trimming with 1 battery? More than an hour or? :)
Nice, just bought this this morning. Combo with the blower. Waiting for the battery to charge.
Can you restring it of they stop making the pucks? Or they get too expensive?
thank- you for easy to follow directions- love my ryobi compared to the gas ones that i could NEVER start!
Thank you! I know it looks easy now after this video but I could not figure it out. First time home owner and just learning all of this
Thanks for the simple review. You stuck to the point and made it rasy to understand. I have had multiple gas trimmers and they dont seem to last. trying to decide if I should go stihl, ryobi battery or ryobi gas
I have one. I'm not that good with stringing weed whackers.....I'm not exactly patient. Now I know how easy it is, I won't get frustrated as much.
I recently picked up one of these at homedepot and I'm very impressed with how much I get done with this trimmer also I had never used a trimmer or a weed wacker before but this made it even more simple with it being lighter. And for a very affordable price you just cant go wrong with this little guy, and I have jacked up ears so the gas powered ones would be to loud for me even with the ear protection. But for tougher grass you'd want to go with something more powerful like a gas one. As for me I'm more than happy with this electric one.
I bought one and have used it on tall blue stem grass on 5 acres around fence post as well as an edger at home. Apparantly I overworked it and broke 2 of 3 dog ears holding the guard. I think they could have beefed up the dog ears since you use your foot to change from weed eater to edger.
I have one of these, and two things: 1. I think it is decent quality, but it is very light and doesn't feel like it is all that tough. 2. I keep having trouble with the trimmer line not advancing at each pull of the trigger. No matter how carefully I wind the new line, it will invariably get stuck and I have to stop and take it apart to get more line out. I am NOT buying pre-wound lines! Great video, you're dog is entertaining too.
I have this issue too and it’s incredibly frustrating. What can be done? It it a faulty product?
@@FelicityJ97 I put larger .095 line in mine and it lasts far longer. You might have to drill the hole a bit larger however.
Thank you Jake. This helped me immensely. I couldn't figure out how to take off the cap. I was distracted by the button!
Who else was watching the dog? 🤣🤣
How to put your dog's eye out with debris
Something worth mentioning is the attachments it comes with, the blades and the fixed string. These are way, way easier than relying on the auto feeder/spool.
Thanks Man. I needed this vid right now. Just brought one (blower also) on a whim. I have a small yard and this perfect. Thanks for showing the foot pedal in use.
Thanks Jake. Very informative. The model number is p2080 btw. Do you buy the spools already pre spooled or do you spool them yourself? If you do buy in bulk, do you have any recommendations on bulk string? Last question is that a pumpkin cannon at the end of the video. Thanks again.
John Dough my tool has p2008 stamped on it. Not sure if that's a misprint or if they just have a few different models of edgers? As for a pumpkin cannon.... In my dreams haha!
I have bought pre spooled string, but I'm starting to amass a collection of spools and I might start buying string this summer. So I don't have a recommendation on string. I suppose I'll start with the cheapest string I can find.
Jake Bresson Thanks and I was wrong about the model number. Apparently the trimmer by itself is a p2008 but the set (battery, charger etc.) Is a p2080. I just bought the trimmer and three spools thanks to your video. It really helped narrow my choices. I'll let you know if I come across a slightly used pumpkin cannons. It looks like your backyard is big enough to practice in. Thanks again man.
Good video . I have slightly more property than you and I needed to buy a total of three batteries . I bought two batteries today at home Depot $150 2 volts. I charged them up the night before and I'm good to go 💪
Just got this trimmer, but only subscribed Becuase of your happy dog. What kind is he? Need to convince the fiancé to get one!
🤣🤣👍 he's a Brittney spaniel/corgi accident, but we like him!
Is just having one string enough for trimming?
Mine isn't cutting the string which leads to it getting tangled. I can only go a few feet at a time. Should I buy a new guard with blade attachment? Or maybe I should super glue a razor the the current guard to guarantee it cuts?
Thank you for the straight forward no nonsense review....appreciated
Okay so my stepper must be broke because it hasn't been able to rotate back from edger to trimmer for like 2 years. I'm going to take it to where I got it, Home Depot and see if they can get it to rotate back. If not in the trash it goes.
Great review! Thanks. I think you've helped me make up my mind. Also, enjoyed watching the dog in the background! haha
Thank you so much!!! Mine just ran out of string first time and I couldn’t find the instructions! 😀
I love my trimmer, light weight something I can use, went to use it and string just keeps feeding. Any suggestions?
I've been happy with the Ryobi stuff. I had Black and Decker but Ryobi equipment seems more durable. I just got this trimmer. So far it does a good job.
I have the one with the 4Ah battery. But will it run on the 2Ah battery, as well?
I like this video. I’m having trouble trying to remove the “head” so I can get the long grass that is wound around the center. It slows down the machine to a full stop. The instructions say “turn counter clockwise “ but I’m not getting any results. Can you help?
oh no! I have the same issues with stuck grass and it's a pain. I'm honestly surprised you're the first comment about it. My only advice is use a sharp knife to cut off what you're able.
I’m new at this and my line keeps breaking.. and it’s not letting out more line when I start it? I checked and it’s not empty yet. Even when I bring out more line manually it keeps breaking 😣
Had mine 2 days and used for about an hour accumulatively, it worked fine, except the string did not seem to be adjusting as it claims to do "just release trigger"..uhh, no, I had to pull the string out manually several times. Than I tried to use .095 string instead of the stock .080" as the package said "universal" and "lasts 50% longer (not the Ryobi brand).. Put that on and in 1 minute it tore off the blade which trims off excessive string length and the plastic housing which holds it on, along with the screw, that is not repairable.. Perhaps it could be rigged up with a homemade blade but that's not something I'd want to do to a brand new weed wacker. It's sad, because it worked oh so fine and the wheel on it was great for edging, why oh why Ryobi could you not make that portion of the tool out of aluminum or stee? It (blade that trims off excess string) is coming in contact with the nylon string for God's sake, what a poor design..nuf said. I do not know if the reason was using a heavier gauge string, but in my opinion, it would have probably done the same thing eventually with the .080" string.
How do you get the string to come out more?!!!! Lol I can NOT figure it out. Very dur question....I know
Lol mines auto feed every time I pull the trigger
I'll try what I found in the comments,, removing the feed tab on the bottom.
Why do we have to add the string. What purpose does the string makes ?
Does this one auto feed the string EACH time you release the trigger? It runs up the strings like crazy, unless one can hold the trigger down the whole time. Perhaps you have a solution?
Does the guard come off? I feel like it would be difficult to weed eat with it on.
My experience hasn't been that good. I have not been able to complete the yard on one battery charge. Switching over to the edging feature is difficult. Finally, after only one season, the battery won't even charge. I'd give it a 1 at best.
😢 I have that same problem switching from edging to trimming, it’s extremely difficult. But the battery works very good on mine.
Thank you. I couldnt figure out how to change the angle of it!!
I watched your video yesterday and went an got me one. I like it! It came with the plastic whipping things and they work well. One problem I had was the thing that cuts the excessive string... it broke off immediately. It sucked! It was too dull to cut the string. So I sharpened it and glued it back on.
If it isn't one thing, it's another😂 glad you got it handled and like it💯
@@jpascal23 right?! It was like a butter knife 😂. Damn thing flung off and almost hit my wife. I’ll take it back if it happens again. But it really works well.
Craig Davis- same thing happened to me! I guess the knife on my Ryobi was not sharp enough since mine broke off the blade also. I'm going to try to sharpen mine and glue it back on also. What type glue did you use to glue the blade back in place?Tap on a clip to paste it in the text box.
@@Candoit2 i used the 5 min gorilla glue epoxy and I used a grinder to put a nice edge in it. It’s been great ever since.
@@daviscc65 Thanks Craig!
Just pick one up 2 weeks ago. Going to try it later. Very impress with what you did.
Ok stupid question but I have this one and I’m so confused how to use the edging feature. Mine like flips the wrong way.
Best freaking video demonstration EVER! 😎🐾
Question: do u reckon u could use 2mm trimmer instead of 1.6, for a bit more grunt?
mate the string keeps coming out and it is such a waste or I can't get the hang of it. Any advice?
This trimmer is bad ass, the people commenting don't know how to use a dam power tool, set the blade to the 13" it becomes a completely different trimmer!!!!!
I'm finding out people either love it or hate it lol.
The cute doggies.... oops I forgot this is about the Ryobi review. I think I will purchase this one. The other trimmer I purchased did not quite work for me. I believe it's operator error. But the two dogs know when it is time to cute the grass.
Came here for the how-to... stayed for the dog.
I bought this and same one, lasted about 15-20 minutes at most, I had a 2nd battery charged and ready and same thing, lasted 15-20 minutes, and these are not old batteries... I have the WorkGT edger / trimmer, and this Ryobi didn't last nearly as long as the Worx. I have other Ryobi tools and thought I would get this to use the same battery since I have two of them, but I returned it back to Home Depot ... Good luck if you get this, but no way it had the power or battery as the Worx
what's the string for? May I please ask
Nice review thanks! I wanted to see an example of it edging before trying it, it looks pretty easy to do and it looks like it does a nice job. I just got one of these. I like how it's a lot quieter than the gas trimmer.
That's what I wanted to see, the edging mode. Thanks, Louis. Ray
Next time when you change the Neon thingy make sure to remove the battery so u dont get hurt :)
Ryobi makes a good battery powered mower too. For that size of yard, might save u some time. Just saying... Great video by the way.
Tommy Mac I was wondering how good their mower was. Do you know if it’ll cut at augustine grass?
@@lisastallingskeelor3328 i bought the ryobi electric mower, only used it once so far seems awesome
I had a Ryobi trimmer, and it completely fell apart after 1 1/2 years Total garbage. No more Ryobi products for me. I went and bought a Stihl, and love it. Worth the extra money.
How long does the battery last on average?
Is this thing pretty lightweight? I’d imagine it’d be lighter than gas powered ones
It's honestly close to the same with a battery. Still lighter, but close. You'd have to check out the specifications on homedepot.com to see the weight.
Just got one yesterday - it works fantastic.
Those are some absolutely adorable dogs
Australian shepard or boarder collie?
Does anyone know how to take the two halves of the trimmer apart so that it can fit back in the box? I need to return mine. Thanks!
Have you used the pre-spooled auto feed .080 line for this model? I have wanted to see a self spool video about this but have not seen one yet.
Awesome video... Love the happy pooch is the background... Cheered me up on this dreary day on Long Island... Great review! Heading out to Home Depot now....
Bare legs--no ankle or leg protection? ??
Not a big fan of it always releasing more string every time I stop because I feel like I’m going through spools too quick…??? But I guess it is nice to know that it’s only supposed to be releasing the amount that I need…
May be I don’t know how to use it. I bought it yesterday. The string finish in 2 hours
That dog...lol I bought one & I love the sound it makes when you first start using it
Good one, mate, my petrol one was so annoying that I smashed it, will definitely consider the electric one with the little wheel!
Finally! Thank you for showing the edger function. Looks pretty good!
I just have one today and confused tight eh string release switch logic. Does it mean I should not stop or more string will come out each time I trim grass? Isn’t it eating sting too fast in this way.
Full throttle until you need more string!!
Jake Bresson em i see
My trimmer stop working, the battery base shows fully charge, but not use. Need help.
Useful review! Please tell me what music that is at the end - love it!
the music was really nice!
Your floof supervisor approves of this tutorial.
Couldn't figure out how to use this, thanks!😊
The video was great but the dog is the star of the show
Well Jake, it was interesting listening to you. Talk about how wonderful it is. And then will you get to the string part and you don’t show how to load the spool. Which was worthless now. Glad you spent the time talking.
Where do you find the string to buy ?
I didn't hear a word after the dog started playing in the background lol Kidding. thank you for the review
my string keeps getting tangled and wrapping around the base of the head. I have disassembled it and put it back together multiple times it still does thesame stupid stuff. Anybody have this issue or just me? and if so how did you resolve it.
Whats the breed of your dog? Its a beautiful dog!
Sweet with the wheels to edge along the sidewalk!!!
how do ya put it together?
