His mind started as a mansion, then a cage. He thought he was locked but he realized he has the keys. Later on he will go outside the cage, symbolized by the shopping cart. In the Search video, at the end he steps inside the cart cause he feels safer in there. The search album is him searching for answers, hope, freedom, etc. All of his music is a big picture of his mind and how he is evolving and growing, trying to get better from past traumas. The next album was gonna be called Lost. So that means that while he was searching for answers , he got lost somehow. But we gotta wait till after Clouds the mixtape for more answers. Just my thought on NF's music. Great reaction!
Underrated bar in this song: “I guess I don’t fit the mold of rap because I’m respecting women, I heard your record I was laughing at it”. Mainstream rap is doo doooooo 💩🤣 NF real music for life!
I took the never been married but I’ve felt divorce line as in he was a kid when his parents split and he felt their divorce. Kids don’t get a choice. They didn’t pick their parents but the kids are the ones who suffer the consequences when things don’t work out 🤷♀️
Nice. Makes sense. Another idea I considering the song is about being an outcast, is that by “divorced” he means being “separated”, as in being divorced (separated from everyone else). Gotta love discussing theories behind his music.
What i think the ending means of outcast is that all the people around the cage wheire his fans that also feel like a outcast just like him, so in the end that all thhe outcasts are together in the cage i think means that we are a family, like we are all outcasts but being a outcast is a different breed, just like he said himself in the song, he and all the fans so us are outcasts but we are outcasts together...that is just my thoughts on it🖤 also i love your channel so much ive been a NF fan for years now and it’s fun to see everything again + seeing you 2 trying to figure out all this :) peace and love❤️❤️
I remember seeing a live concert with NF on RUclips and Nate says to the crowd, "you guys are weird" and the whole crowd cheered. I remember it was when I didn't know NF as well, but now that scene makes sense since I heard Outcast.
He just buried fear in the previous song. The cage is symbolic of his mansion, and he’s now getting over his fear. You can hear the confidence in his voice. He’s opening his mind and letting people in
NF is the outkast in hip hop music since he doesn’t rap about the “norm” (drugs/women/money etc) also since he isn’t really welcome .. when he says his make believe friends I took it as his emotions since he personifies them.. The cage represents his prison .. prisoner to his own thoughts, pain and he’s saying he has the keys.. he knows he is in control.. his looking at things differently.. perception .. that’s why he was able to kill fear.. that’s why in the search he talks about how powerful the mind is
Okayyy 🤔 that makes me want to rewatch it with that perspective in mind lol. I wonder if his stuff is like open to interpretation, or if he means to communicate a very specific message and its our job to figure it out 🗝 always gets me thinking lol 😂
Brad & Lex yes! Definitely open to interpretation.. his music is so thought provoking and even now I catch things I didn’t before.. it’s crazy.. he really is a genius on how he paints these pictures and is giving us a new piece to the puzzle with every song .. btw love your guys reactions and enjoying the journey 💜💜
@@BradAndLex When Nate was asked about the people in white in The Search, he said he doesn't want to interpret the visuals of his songs, he would rather people put their own spin on it. Which is rather dope.
Just like when he said “Yo, I don't know what it's like to be addicted to pills But I do know what it's like to be a witness it kills” in Why Would You Leave Us, he’s saying “I don’t have your experience, but I watched it.” He means the same thing here with “I never been married, but I've felt divorced”. He’d never married, but he still felt his parents divorce. He uses this style of writing a lot.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but this was another video where NF gave mad love to his fans. They had a call for people to be in the video just a few days before he shot this. You both do a great job of breaking down his lyrics and discussing the hidden meanings/connections. Finally, someone on RUclips to break down his music more in this way! The cage is symbolism for him liking his comfortable zone not crowds. He doesn't go to the crowds they have to come to him. Good response. Thank you! 😊
I have always interpreted the "never been married but I've felt divorced" line in the context of the song being (in part) about being an outcast in hip hop. A metaphor for how he feels separated from the industry because he has not been welcome.

I think I said it before on your reaction but I may not have, idk. You touched on it; when we first see NF, he's sitting just chilling in his living room but then all this starts happening. When we day dream we say that our head is in the clouds. In my opinion, this was all 1 huge day dream (obviously talking about the mixtape)
I am with you! My Mom tells me I had an imaginary friend when I was a kid for quite a while. She said everyone would acknowledge my friend and ask me if he was around. I really don't remember any of it. There are some great bars in this song. This album is on a whole new level and then The Search is 10 levels up from this album. Nate as this point is unstoppable! I will be very surprised if his next release is another number 1 debut album which will make it 3 in a row! But I got a feeling mainstream, the critics, and the slow will finally catch on and embrace him. But, he ain't going Hollywood!
Great stuff! My wife and I love NF....even my 8 yr old son. So much truth and relatable content. I enjoy watching others reaction...makes me relive the song for the first time again. We are headed to his concert at the MN state fair come September. Tickets purchased....just need the NF merch!!
I think its so amazing you’ve already introduced your son to NF, Chad! Can you imagine growing up with NF? I feel like it would’ve helped me a lot in middle school & high school 💯we gotta make it to a live show, i bet the energy is crazy!
The cafe represents his mind just like Manson somewhere NF still feels safe bit he still let's his fan in because he knows they realte to his music so much and at times have saved their lives etc. If you remember the search he left the cage and fear has been buried for a while now. Now NF went on a search for freedom hence the search album. What happens when we searched for something we tend to get LOST hence the song Lost featuring Hopsin which I believe was originally going to be his next album but then the pandemic happened and so he dropped clouds the mixtape which are songs he wasn't going to release at first but then he changed his mind... NF is the GOAT!!!!!!
LEX! I remember being so jealous of all the kids who had imaginary friends, cuz I felt pretty alone when I was young. I remember I created 3 new "imaginary" friends out of that jealousy. One was my shadow. She was always shy but loyal. My reflection, she was always mean and ruthless and my last imaginary friend didn't have a "body" so technically she was just my inner thoughts at that age. The funny part was that I just had attached parts of my personality to images or things in the real world and talked to myself whenever I was alone. The weirdest thing about the whole ordeal was that it had been the start of my journey in learning my identity. I realized I was mean to myself and judged myself harshly, especially on my image. Cuz everyone at that age was about appearance and being cool. I was more aware of the devil (mirror imaginary friend) on my shoulder talking me down every step of the way. I realized I wanted to be more like my shadow, drawn back from situations, and have time to react. I was always told, "think before you speak" but was never given the time to process a situation before someone was demanding I answer or talk. You just made me psychoanalyze my past self without intending to. :D ps. hope this isn't too weirdly personal.
In the song “real” NF says “ what you gonna be when you grow up Nate, I doubt they will get it. I guarantee that’s a reference to “when I grow up” on the search.!.
I have always thought the cage was his safe room... But also, in How Could You Leave Us he states - "If pain is a prison let me out of my cell". He is very comfortable in his pain, he chooses to keep himself locked in.
The cage is the “room no one could enter-mansion” “I don’t let no one in there”, the (keys) opened that room, which allowed NF to”kill fear-outro” and “throw fear out & bury him outside-into III”. The fans we’re slowly allowed into the picture on outcast, first taking pictures “I’m not a fan of taking picture, but bc the fans are so faithful and loyal, he’s takes them w/them anyway-Warm up”, the fans all experience something in NF’s music and the too and consider themselves “outcast”, playing this is definitely an anthem, at the end they are in the cage because NF let them in. Nate also mentions the hotel room and needing space “to fall into his thoughts” while writing his music. Nate’s make believe friends are the different emotions he has-IMO-Fear is the only one thus far yawl have met, tho he mentions doubt in (leave me alone-the search) and a few others along the way- yawl keep going, your a fun duo to watch! NF does this were he mentions something and a year or so later he brings it back around again in a full Song!! It’s amazing how he does make this like a movie series w/the most epic music score and story telling-I can’t wait to see where he goes next!
Haha, you ain't weird, Lex. I had an army of imaginary werewolf friends till I was like 15. They kept me sane during some tough times. Can't hate anyone who remembers what made them happy when they were kids. ✌😁
Ayyy that’s what’s up! I feel like we don’t acknowledge the huge portion of the population that had imaginary friends as adults. I love how he turns being an “outcast” into something cool that we can be proud of. 🖤
He showed paid my dues smiley and had PMD written out on his social media in 2017. So he had paid my dues in mind so maybe clouds too The meth lab part is homage to breaking bads first episode
In the very beginning of "Clouds" when Nate is in the clouds and the camera is panning closer to him sitting there. You hear a voice say something that sounds foreign or backwards. It's Nate from this song saying "head in the clouds", but it's in reverse. You can do a search for Clouds reversed and you will find videos where you can hear it in reverse and then you hear him quoting this song.
@@christroop No he says "head's in the clouds" this is already been established on his fan page, which is why I know about it. Listen closely with head phones. ruclips.net/video/D3VQN7Hp3vg/видео.html
@@christroop Oh and two more things... first when you go to listen to that on headphones BEWARE the very beginning it's LOUD but then is Ok and you can crank it up. So here's what the NF geeks (his fans who are so smart I love them) are explaining. In reverse at the beginning he says, "head's in the clouds" (or cloud) and the very last verse of the song he says, "I ain't gotta say it, they know where my head is, they know where my head is". So the song dove tails head in the clouds. He doesn't have to say it at the end of the song because he said it in the beginning. Head's in the clouds is a reference to Outcast. "I'm high off the music, my head's in the clouds I kinda like it up here, I am not comin' down". This is what NF loves to do with his music. This is why he has such an intense fan base.
@@Acadian.FrenchFry , Now I have listened to that version, and it's really hard to tell (even after I tried to isolate the pitch.) So, for arguments sake, you are probably right! I can agree that he is an artist phenome!
@@christroop He truly is a phenom in every sense of the word. I'm a newer fan, but I'm already in deep buying his music and getting into his journey. I'm a musician and vocalist (not a rapper) and Nate's writing ability and his music just blows my mind.
I think it was the theme trough out the video that he is bringing people in to his cage. He starts it with taking pictures with fans inside it and ends with them being there with him. I guess that is his side of what I express as feeling like he is inside my head. Because that is how I think many of his fans feels, me included. He is literally ripping your thoughts out from your head and puts them into lyrics though in the truth he is putting only his own thoughts into those. I cannot remember having similar experience with any other artist in my life.
In Intro 3 he said fear had him trapped in a cage but he had the keys all along. In The Search the cage is in background and he still has the keys because he's leaving the cage behind but he's still bringing things with him. (the cart and the balloons).
There is a term in psychology: divorced from reality. Being “divorced” typically means either you are losing your mind, you don’t feel like you’re you, or you’re going through depression, so its like you’re divorced from the world (not enjoying it), etc. Considering NF talks a lot about mental issues, pretty sure thats what he meant.
This is song he did as his intro to his perception concert the stage was smoky he was sitting in the cage and boom light come on and he gets into it opens the cage the whole crowd goes off we jumping rapping with him it was so unreal
11:11 Lex, because it wasn't imagined. We are spiritual beings and as kid's we are tapped into the spiritual world before they programmed you to think it was all make believe.
Its listeners that he lets in and out of his mind through his music.. Then if you watch they vibe with him more and more and then they have the paint on smiles.. Then as they follow him and he unravels the story more and more they realize more and more that they arent alone in feelings and as outcasts... Then he opens up the cage for all of them to join him in the safe space together... And not be alone in their loneliness... At least thats my take on it
the cage symbolizes his safety zone. the people around are his fans which try to step up to him since they relate with him. but he likes his privacy as he said hes not good in crowds. but then the people put on the black smile which means they accept the fact not being happy is okay. and at the point they accept it, he lets them in his safety zone. like the fans and him get in the same zone he opens up and let people get close to him.
I'm with you Lex. I had an imaginary friend too. LOL. Also, since he was in the cage as an Outcast, I am assuming those in the cage with him are outcasts too. :) Maybe??? I think NF is a musical genius in my opinion. Such a deep thinker.
If you go back to “the search” video, you’ll see when the video starts, the cage is in the background. He’s leaving the cell and now is on his Search. Most people don’t realize that.
Lost is a song he was going to release after Paid My Dues, its on the clouds mixtape.
The song lost is on the the mixtape
Your explanation is fire. So graphic
You’re POV on his journey is crazy
In Clouds, the last thing he said was "they know where my head is""
In this he says "I'm high off the music, my heads in the clouds"♡♡♡
Also the quiet line in the beginning of clouds which is hard to understanding is that line from outcast played in reverse. Just amazing!

And how he follows up with “hi, I’m Nate have we met before?” Kinda plays into that.
Great insight 😌
And I also felt like it could be that he divorced his fear on intro III

Everytime NF drops he blows up the game!
Make-believe friends are the best friends!
I think you are right in regards to letting people in to the cage. I never looked at it like that. Love it
I am with you!
Been waiting for you to react to this one. 👍
@@BradAndLex indeed. It helps him relax at night time. He keeps asking to play CLOUDS.
I’ve always enjoyed the thought of him ending up in a locked cell after burying Fear. Murder and all. lol
This song is amazing!!!! This song also connects to Why
The song that was next up on your screen, No Name, is fire. Can't wait until you hear it.
This song is ICONIC in NF's catalog...pure 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥; keep enjoyin' the journey!!
NF does this were he mentions something and a year or so later he brings it back around again in a full
Song!! It’s amazing how he does make this like a movie series w/the most epic music score and story telling-I can’t wait to see where he goes next!
Yeah a lot is going on ! I felt like 5 songs in one -so much meaning . This song is just 🔥🔥🔥
You da' BEST!!! Another great reaction to the world!
@@BradAndLex For real. 😁
And the cage is symbolic of his mind
5:48 the song you're thinking of was Warm Up.
He showed paid my dues smiley and had PMD written out on his social media in 2017. So he had paid my dues in mind so maybe clouds too
The meth lab part is homage to breaking bads first episode
In the very beginning of "Clouds" when Nate is in the clouds and the camera is panning closer to him sitting there. You hear a voice say something that sounds foreign or backwards. It's Nate from this song saying "head in the clouds", but it's in reverse. You can do a search for Clouds reversed and you will find videos where you can hear it in reverse and then you hear him quoting this song.
I just played the cloud intro (in reverse) and he is saying," Somehow."
"I'm high off the music, my head's in the clouds
I kinda like it up here, I am not comin' down".
This is what NF loves to do with his music. This is why he has such an intense fan base.
@@Acadian.FrenchFry , Now I have listened to that version, and it's really hard to tell (even after I tried to isolate the pitch.)
So, for arguments sake, you are probably right!
You can see the Cage in the background at the beginning of the search, which is also the first time the shopping cart is introduced.
Y’all crushed it!!
His cage or prison is in his mind, and he has allowed all his fans inside his cage like inside his mind to go on a tour with his life like his music
Clouds The Mixtape is a collection of songs hes been sitting on for years but never released them
When he says I’ve never been married but I’ve felt divorced he mainly talking about him “Nate” and his alter ego NF
He drops song names in just about every song
In Intro 3 he said fear had him trapped in a cage but he had the keys all along. In The Search the cage is in background and he still has the keys because he's leaving the cage behind but he's still bringing things with him. (the cart and the balloons).
"Goosebumps through the whole track "
There is a term in psychology: divorced from reality. Being “divorced” typically means either you are losing your mind, you don’t feel like you’re you, or you’re going through depression, so its like you’re divorced from the world (not enjoying it), etc. Considering NF talks a lot about mental issues, pretty sure thats what he meant.
You guys are my favorite NF reaction channel 😆
This is song he did as his intro to his perception concert the stage was smoky he was sitting in the cage and boom light come on and he gets into it opens the cage the whole crowd goes off we jumping rapping with him it was so unreal
I just came across your channel, really enjoying both of your interactions with each other. Keep making videos
Thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏾
This was so sick live it was crazy af
Em has STANS NF has the Outcasts
Also the mike posner joker reference is to mikes and black ears album/band Mansionz which I believe they did for some big music awards event
I'm with you young Queen.
11:11 Lex, because it wasn't imagined. We are spiritual beings and as kid's we are tapped into the spiritual world before they programmed you to think it was all make believe.
Imaginary friends are so real, I remember mine too!
At least thats my take on it
Dont miss green lights - nf
the cage symbolizes his safety zone.
the people around are his fans which try to step up to him since they relate with him.
but he likes his privacy as he said hes not good in crowds.
but then the people put on the black smile which means they accept the fact not being happy is okay.
and at the point they accept it, he lets them in his safety zone.
like the fans and him get in the same zone
he opens up and let people get close to him.
I'm with you Lex. I had an imaginary friend too. LOL. Also, since he was in the cage as an Outcast, I am assuming those in the cage with him are outcasts too. :) Maybe??? I think NF is a musical genius in my opinion. Such a deep thinker.
Yayyy shoutout to the imaginary friend gang 😆💯 his music is unreal! I feel so “normal” now haha
yessss my favorite song of his
You guys are awesome!
If you go back to “the search” video, you’ll see when the video starts, the cage is in the background. He’s leaving the cell and now is on his Search. Most people don’t realize that.
