I've watched a Handful of videos on missing the Smittubilt compressor. You are the only one that mentioned a concern about the open system! Thanks for bringing that up

Just wanted to thank you for putting this video out. I'd never even heard of a slide valve until now. I like this solution much better than hacking up the compressor itself to install a pressure switch.
Does the slide valve also act as a one-way check valve?
Also, I'm still going to install a 125psi pressure relief on my connector hose just for peace of mind.

Glad this video could help you.
I suppose it is a form of a check valve, but you are controlling the slide valve manually.
There is already a pressure relief valve built into the side of the compressor near the handle. Its a brass valve with a pull ring on it.

@@oversizedoverlanding2365 That's a good point, I've heard mine pop and it's quite loud. I just don't know what the factory pressure valve is rated at so I might go down to 100 PSI valve on my fitting just so I don't strain the pump.
      Thanks again!

Why a 3/8 slide valve and not a 1/4? The lines are all 1/4.. wondering before I went ahead and did this myself

I think the 1/4" valve was backordered indefinitely at the time of this video, so I just went with the 3/8"

nice job, (links are in description) -> Question though, after watching all these mods, Not just yours) and you want to easily check in on the PSI of the tire on your gauge, since you must remove the incoming air from compressor do you use a pressure switch as well as the Slide valve ? Is this correct, 1. check tire PSI by opening the slide valve or also using a pressure switch.
thank you for all the links to the parts. and the opinion of the napa compressor. nice write up/video.
after 7months my 2780 stopped and customer support was awful. so I troubleshoot, took it apart and replaced the $13. Relay. Wanting a better compressor, its either the Maxitrac air compressor or this 2781 .

As the video shows, all you have to do in order to read the tire’s current psi is slide the valve to the vent position, air will then vent out of the valve and not continue going into the tire, the inline gauge will then give you a PSI reading. No pressure switch was/is necessary. If I could do it again, I may have sold this Smittybilt and gotten a Maxitrac instead of dumping $100 into this Smittybilt to make it work the way it should. The Maxitrac is also double the CFM of the Smitty…
Would be interested to see which compressor is more reliable though over time

Perhaps a dumb question, but why cant you just chill in the truck while airing up and look at the tpms sensor on the dash?

TPMS only updates after the wheel has been rolling.
