Daemon choking Rhaenyra was a brilliant and deliberately shocking way to highlight the idea that Dragons are never fully tame. Daemon is 100% Targaryen, a dragon in human skin. His blood and bone is fire and chaos made flesh. I feel Rhaenyra understands this because she doesn’t admonish him or scream for help. Shes not even angry. She’s just surprised that Daemon knew nothing about the Song of Ice & Fire and likely understands for Daemon the fact that his brother didn’t consider him a truly worthy successor is a festering wound on his soul that no sane person should poke. I just feel it’s a deeper moment than just an abusive act. I found this comment in an another video and I find he's analysis very good so (credits to CaptainLuckyLuke)

The Dragon Daemon was singing to is Vermithor, it was King Jaehaerys. The king before Viserys in episode 1. The dragon has been idle all this time and Daemon is trying to bring the dragon to their side to find a rider for him.
Daemon is not gonna let these hightowers steal their birthright and let his kids serve them. He also believes 100% that they killed Viserys so peace was never an option.
And if Otto and Alicent wanted peace they would have followed the kings wishes not commit treason not a single person would have had to die.

If Daemon really believes they killed Viserys then he is a fool. As long as Viserys was alive Hightowers could rule 7 kingdoms unchalenged in his name, and with his death half the realm stop listening to them and go to Rhaenyra. Additionaly he saw in how bad health he was with his own eyes...

@@brawlerwow6801 I would not find his death suspicious at all given his condition and the fact that its the hightowers that loose the most by his death. His dying wish i would label as Otto's lie for sure but its simple propaganda for masses to justify Aegon on the throne. No one who was important enough to know Viserys would believe it. Hell, even Otto didnt believe it when Alicent told him and that tells it all.
You're wrong about Rhaenyra accepting the terms of surrender. Viserys trusted her with the prophecy and chosed her as heir because he knew she was the right one to rule, she can't give up her crown, is her duty, her responsibility, no matter the price she has to pay for it.
Showrunner Ryan Condal explained the choking scene’s motive:
“It’s a moment that I think is surprising and shocking for Daemon as a character, but I also think it’s one of those things that’s been set up over the course of the entire season. Daemon - while an incredibly charismatic and deeply interesting, complex character, I think - he’s also capable of great darkness. It’s simmering just beneath the surface. When he learns in that moment that Viserys never believed in him enough, as his actual heir to the throne, to pass this thing on that he clearly just easily passed on to Rhaenyra, it breaks him. He loved his brother so deeply and trusted him, even through all the problems that they had, and Viserys never shared it with him. He kept [Daemon] in the dark, and it just it breaks Daemon. Instead of reacting with grief or sadness that you see out of him later, he reacts with rage and he takes it out on Rhaenyra.”
I think you missed Rhaenys telling Corlys that Rhaenyra was the best chance for avoiding an all out war.

It was actually a sapphire in Aemond's eye socket. He put it in there some time after losing his eye. Also, I'm pretty sure you can't claim two dragons. The one Daemon was singing to in the caves was Vermithor, the old King's dragon (the guy from the start of episode 1, he was king before Viserys). It has been unclaimed for decades and I guess Daemon was trying to placate it so it would be more accepting to future riders.
Yes they can. When King Viserys's dragon Balerion died, according to George RR Martin, "[Viserys] did not take a second dragon", leaving the possibility that, had Viserys desired a new dragon, he could have attempted to claim one. So going by that logic, a dragon will only accept one rider at a time, but that doesn't mean a rider can't have more than one dragon.

Claiming more than one dragon could be more a matter of tradition than reality in that world. Remember, Danny had 3. Even when John Snow rode the one, did anyone watching doubt that it was still bonded her?

Rhaenys convinced Corlys to support Rhaenyra because she was showing restraint and not plunging headlong into war. Basically Rhaenyra was acting like a proper Queen and doing what Rhaenys would have done in her position.
I think Daemon see’s Viserys in Rhaenyra and as much as he loved his brother he always despised how weak he thought Viserys was.
Daemon was trying to wake Rhaenera the fuck up because he knew the greens were coming. He knows what Otto and his Grandsons can do and his point is proven at the end of the episode. His thinking WAR and shes thinking Dreams and prophecies like her daddy and look were that led her..

Daemon is the only person who knows war and what needs to be done. It may seem like he’s being irrational but he knows if they hesitate they will lose.

And he was mostly just protecting the island from attack while she was out of commission. Greeens coulda attacked at any time. Just being smart.
Daemon was right about everything in this episode except choking Rhaenyra. And Daemon, as impulsive as he is, still yields to Rhaenyra's authority as Queen. He didn't kill Otto because Rhaenyra told him no, he didn't go start a war because Rhaenyra told him no. He made plans yes, but he didn't execute any of them when Rhaenyra wasn't on board. I think Daemon would let Rhaenyra rule, but this is war and Daemon is more experienced in that regard so Rhaenyra should let him take point when it comes to war.

Amazing analysis. However, he choked her because of this reason (war) He wants to fight and she’s talking about a poem her dad told her! He flipped. He’s like “my brother stopped me from doing what I do best. Now you (Rhaenyra) want to do the same?” She’s more than lucky to have Daemon in her side. She didn’t complain about the choke. She understood his anger. Even when Corlys Verlaryon asked where Daemon is, she just said the Prince has other matters to attend. She didn’t show any sign of sadness. And also at the end when they held hands. They are a power couple. These small things such as choking or raising your voice or anything from that nature can’t and won’t change anything about them. They are meant to burn together 👍

Grandma Vhagar is ´172 years old at this point. She has been in every war since Aegons conquest and seen countless battles. She doesnt take shit from anyone.
The truth is that all the aging make up takes forever and the beast got hungry. Then the scene in bad weather took even longer to shoot and things happened. They couldn't put the other dragon together, so they had to keep it.

I'm pretty sure Daemon couldn't bring himself to be with Rhaenyra when she was giving birth because he didn't want to be in the same position as he was with Laena back then.

Daemon has to prepare for war he knows what's coming there is no time to spare. Rhaenyra has done this several times before. Daemon has to get dragons and armies mobilized or they will be crushed.

I'm watching you reaction right now and I'm at 17:30 and I COMPLETLY AGREE WITH YOU about the fact that it would have been a good choice for Rhaenyra accepts the terms. For sure she should have asked for guarantees. Request that children of the Greens be sent as wards to Dragonstone to prevent betrayal. A promise of marriage between Aegon's daughter and one of Rhaenyra's sons could also have sealed the deal. But I AGREE WITH YOU - if Rhaenyra wants to protect the lives of her children and the peace of the kingdom, negotiating something from the proposal that comes from Alicent is the right thing to do. But obviously, this story is a tragedy and so that's not what will happen...
Aemond has avoided looking weak since he was a kid- knowing him he would say he did it on purpose instead of admitting that he lost control. That’s potentially why in the histories it’s written that he did it on purpose.
He can embrace the dark side and act like it was a war crime or embrace the light and tell his family it was an accident. We'll have to see.
There's plenty wrong with the house of the dragon books being the POV of maester's,
1. Criston Cole beat daemon 3 times on single combat and that is one of the main true things from the POV of maester's.
2. Daemon never touched rhaenyra, if the books were from maester's POV then why would the maester's do daemon justice by making it seem like he never harmed rhaenyra?
3. What's next are they going to say that daemon lives?

Rhaenys reminded Corlys that his grand-children are heirs to the throne, nothing sus.

Aemond never forgot about his eye. The only reason he seemed to accept an eye for a dragon was to save Alicent after the knife incident.
Although I don’t agree with Daemon choking Rhaenyra but he’s absolutely right. The hightowers would never keep to their word. The last episode all Otto talked about was killing anybody who has a claim to the throne and Daemon knows that.
If Rhaenyra had sent Rhaenys to Storm's End with Luke, things might have turned out differently; she was Lord Borros' cousin and might have been able to handle him, and also, Meleys might have been able to keep Vhagar from killing Luke (or intimidated Aemond from setting Vhagar after Luke and Arrax).
Daemon was done with Rhae bs, she let Otto go, she wasn't ready to crush the rebellion and then she started to talk about some stupid dream.
That's why he told her "dreams didn't make us kings, dragons did".

El problema con aceptar los términos que ofreció Otto es que él no permitirá que Rhaenyra o alguno de sus hijos estén ahí para poner en peligro a Aegon y los demás. Claro. No es muy complicado de entender. Ella quería paz pero a la vez los verdes ya se habían adelantado con mejores ofertas a los aliados y eso hizo que Luke no tuviera otra oportunidad que salir "volando" de ahí. La guerra era inevitable desde que coronaron a Aegon.
Exacto, lo que le ofrece Otto es una completa basura, literal quiere darle a Rhaenyra todo lo que ya era de ella (excepto el trono) después de robarle la corona de manera rastrera. Rocadragon y Driftmark ya eran de Rhaenyra y sus hijos, aparte de eso Otto tambien quiere que les entregue a sus 2 hijos con Daemon para que sirvan de coperos a Aegon II, coperos o escudero fue una manera elegante de decir rehenes, porque todos saben que los Targaryen tomaban hijos de grandes señores para tenerlos de rehenes en la corte.

@@dnzstr9161 It's crazy to see people judge fictional characters with the norms of real life 2022 period. I liked the choking scene and I didn't feel bad about it because these aren't real characters lol to judge them based on our current real life norms is a bit crazy to me. I'm more interested in characters good or bad actions on WHY they did it and less on that it happened. If that's how you want to consume TV then only watch Disney+ since everything there is black and white in terms of characters. Which is so boring to me.
That choking scene was not executed properly, and definitely felt like was there for shock value rather than exploring the complications between Daemon and Rehanerya. Hopefully the writers learn from the feedback but it's unlikely because Ryan condall made a smug comment afterwards basically saying don't teach me n grrm how to write deamon. I mean yeah he's the main writer but doesn't need to be so condescending towards fans.

I loved this episode so, so much. What a great way to end the first season. Also on a smaller note, I adored Aemond's 80s teen movie bully laugh during the dragon fight at the end.

I don't think Alicent actually cares about peace. Alicent just wants to remain in power at all costs and she knows that if Rhaenyra becomes Queen she would essentially lose that power. With Aegon as King she continues to wield power through him, as she (and Otto) can easily manipulate and control him, making them the true rulers of the Seven Kingdoms. Her talking about Viserys wanting Aegon to rule is just a way for her to justify her actions and delude herself into thinking she's doing the right thing.

Otto planed to take the Iron Throne with Aegon even without the “testimony” of Alicent from the delirious Viserys. He planned to kill any menace to his line. Is to naive to think that Otto would stay in peace if there is any threat to his bloodline. His plan on this game of thrones is make his kind safe. It is possible that to calm Alicent he propose this terms, nevertheless when Rhaenyra and Daemon have the guard down he would kill them all to eliminate any kind of threat. It’s Game of Thrones and that’s how Otto and his allies are (only to see what happened with Rhaenyra support on king’s landing). Since he mix his line with the royal, war was inevitable at time.
@Ali Chaudhry Alicent of course want the peace, but Otto’s plan is to make that his bloodline perdure through time. That’s why he sent Alicent as a companion to the king. Seeing the whole plot. Viserys was the only one to stop any war at certain times, but his wrong choices make this inevitable. Also, how they didn’t blink to make Aegon king immediately and didn’t gave first Viserys a proper funeral talks about the kind of person that Otto is. Even when Viserys alive, he rushed more to his politic interest that even the king complains. Otto jailed any Rhaenyra supporters in the court or even kill them. Otto would killed Rhaenyra and his kind promptly if Alicent didn’t opposed it. Also she is the Queen consort and her “true powers” aren’t real, that’s why she has to make allies such as Cole or Larys. Corlys knew that Hightower pretentious are inevitable, and war was coming not matter what at this time. As I said, the only one able to stop war was Viserys if he took the correct choices at the time, like had been married with Laena instead of Alicent for example.
@Ali Chaudhry Otto isn't anything like Tywin. Tywin is way smarter. During his whole life he empowered his family almost making them invincible. Otto is like Cercei. He destroys his whole family just to stay in power and to remain the Hand. Otto isn't as calculating as Tywin. He should of realized before trying to steal the throne most of the realm would rise up against the usurpers and back the real Queen

Rhaenyra is the heir the king chose. It only makes her legitimate under the assumption that the king's choice is law. The Blacks are the absolutist side of the conflict, enforced on dragonback, while the Greens stand for a rule based on established tradition, therefore not subject to individual choice. That conflict is already exposed between Daemon and Otto in the first episode after Daemon terrorises the city.

The choke scene was inconsistent with his love for family. Yea he can be violent but based on what we’ve seen all season, he loves his family. His frustration could have been shown in a different way. This and the omission of the scene hugging the twins tells it all in how they’re treating the character. I know he can be chaotic but come on.
The bloodline has much madness in it and it is always bubbling below the surface. Like Dany, she always had the streak of madness inside her throughout the series and it culminated in her embrace of it, and led to her death.

Daemon is supposed to be a character that does evil stiff while people support him while he looks cool doing it. People still supported him after this rhaenyra stuff and they would continue to do so. He is not Jaime lannister the misunderstood brute. He is someone who does whatever the fuck he wants at all times. See that all his war plans were actually followed by rhaenyra in the end

Aemond did feel sorrow for it was his nephew and he didn’t truly mean malice, aside from the whole realization that he jump started a war. (Even if this didn’t happen the war was inevitable even if Rhaenyra took terms- daemon would never want anyone on the throne who isn’t his direct line of blood)

Then he knew full well his actions with Vhagar could result in his nephews death but he still continued to assault a child with a small dragon in the skies with his biggest dragon. Such a great episode, Rhaenyra went thru so much, news of Viserys death, Aegon usurping the throne, war about to break out, stillborn baby and the straw that broke the camel's back, Lucerys's death! Daemon had the right of it all along. You either submit and let the Hightowers usurp the crown, or it’s war, and if it’s war, you need to get everything in order ASAP. It’s not his first time at war, and he knows what he’s up against more than Rhaenyra.

And yes now it’s different because now the throne is taken, before she just fought the prejudices of the world, but no we CLEARLY see her surprised that Otto moved forward and already crowned Aegon and she didn’t expect someone to truly go against her fathers wishes and command.
Daemon is a contradictory character which I love, he loves his family but constantly hurts them, he mocks his nephews death he steals his egg and undermines young rhaenyra by calling himself heir in episode 2. He leaves her constantly in dangerous situations, he even chokes her this episode, but he still loves her and would do anything for her, and she knows how daemon is which is why she doesn’t react much to the choking, she’s shocked but understands why he is upset and so instead of hitting him, she uses her words to check him, like she always does. She laughs at him and makes sure he knows that viserys never wanted him to be heir, he never trusted daemon enough. And daemon knows what he did was wrong and that rhaenyra knows why he’s acting out so he just leaves
There is no way the Greens would allow Rhaenyra and her family to live a peaceful life on Dragonstone. Otto wants Rhaenyra, Daemon and their children dead. He was preparing everything for Viserys's death as we've seen in episode 9. Rhaenyra should just listen to Daemon. The war was declared during Aegon's coronation.

The whole point of this tale is that none of these people deserve the throne. Almost every single character is extremely selfish and their entitlement leads to the chaos about to unfold. Alicents entitlement towards Aegon being heir, Rhaeneryas entitlement to the throne, Daemons entitlment to the throne Leana and Baelas entitlement to Vhaegar, Aemonds entitlement towards Lucs Eye, Ser Cristons entitlement towards Rhanaeryas hand in marriage. All these people are entitled and undeserving.

I believe he was trying to make her snap out of what he believes to be foolish thoughts, he didnt want her to make the same mistake as his brother did with prophecies & omens.
Throughout the whole first season we have watched Daemon be nothing but lojal to the crown, despite him being reckless at times. He probably has a lot of bottled up frustrations from serving his brother & not getting the same loyalty back. He dont mind being bad if it serves the purpose of helping those he is loyal to.
Daemon knows Otto and the Hightowers will never keep their word. What Daemon is doing is smart. This is not the time to chill.
Otto will never keep his word but Alicent will and she has a degree of control of Aegon

At 17:00 minutes, I understand your point but it has two problems.
#1. Daemon honors Targeryan legacy, which includes the Iron Throne. They aren't about to let people who are more Hightower than Targeryan, from their viewpoint, just steal their birthright.
#2. A song of Ice and fire, and House of the Dragon aren't love stories. So nobody is about to run away to an Island and spend their days making love and eating grapes.

That day he gained a dragon, but he lost his eye, and he realised his father would never care about them, would never fight for them, that his mother would be the only one to ever defend them and care about them. So it makes sense he's still resentful.

This is a response to your suggestion to let Aegon be king:
He shares blood with the Hightowers. And in the previous episode, after Otto Hightower clearly admitted to having had a longterm plan in place to usurp the throne from Rhae, it's obvious that he'll promise his rivals peace and stability, and when the time is right, he'll mount his rivals' heads on spikes. He probably also shortened Viserys' life. Therefore, I hope Daemon (or someone else) makes an example of him.
Furthermore, Daemon is certainly not gonna be polite when he's pissed off (especially towards his adversaries such as Otto). Just warning you ahead of time. If this turns you off, well, it is what it is.
P.S: More importantly, I hope you remember that, as you're repeatedly telling him to stop, he's the only able-bodied person there who is a war veteran & dragon-rider. Your indecisiveness has the potential to be catastrophic during open conflict. Time is a luxury when people are plotting and/or trying to kill you. And Daemon knows this, which is why he is on edge out in the open.
I think you don't realize situation Rhaenyra was. Daemon was Right better to feed his kids to the dragon then hand them over to Hightowers who would use them as hostages and eventually kill them because they are true heirs as Viserys declared so Greens wouldn't keep them for long as soon as they would get them, they would probably killed them to destroy any chance of Rhaenyra's sons gain support from great houses that actually care for their loyalty. Daemon needed to wake her up and Rhaenyra isn't child. She won't go around saying how can you do this etc.. That would be uncharacteristic for her character. She entered world of politics and war and she didn't even realize that so Daemon just needed to wake her up. Also Daemon was afraid she thinks more about what he thinks are nonsenses visions and dreams Viserys believed in as he said my brother had many omens and portances(is that right word?) Anything to make his reign more than it was. Dreams didn't made them kings, dragons did. So he hates to see Rhaenyra take the side Viserys chose, that of serving and obeying demands from outside. This is why he grabbed her by the throat. He hates that she is not enough like him after all and that he has sworn to accept her. The realisation Viserys never told him plays no role in it. Daemon never saw himself subservient to Viserys or his opinion.

In fact, there is a beautiful thing that you did not know. Daemon gained the love of his brother Viserys from his father when he loved his brother Aemon. The children of Jaehaerys (the king in the first episode) had a strong brotherly relationship. The father of Daemon and Viserys. It is a touching story about what happened to them.
Why are you suspicious about The sea sneak? They showed the grandchildren are standing together, they do it for their family.
Season 2 has been confirmed. It was announced a few days after ep 1 aired. Filming is scheduled for early 2023 and it will release sometime in 2024.
Ser Erryk has joined Rhaenyra's Queensguard. His twin brother Arryk remained in Aegon's Kingsguard. They will meet again at least once.

It was almost like a test. And she realizes that Rhaenyra is the type of level-headed leader that the realm needs. And maybe Rhaenyra’s reluctance to spill blood made her question her belief that she had her son killed.

Daemon knows otto better then anyone and knew peace wasn’t possible. Otto wanted to kill them but alicent “changed” his mind but to trust that he will never attempt to murder them behind Alicents back one day is being naive. Which is the point daemon is making, he’s right. Nyra was being naive this whole episode like her father usually was and look what that led them to. It further proves the point when she stupidly sent her scared lil boy with no backup and thought “oh the baratheons won’t go back in there words, they swore to me” yeah they swore to you a decade ago. What was she thinking? Her line of thinking will get them all killed and daemon knew that and was piss. When she asked him to marry her, he was in a mindset to live in pentos and not deal with all the politics and betrayals but she convinced him to stay and “burn together” now daemon is like “great, i thought i was marrying a queen and a strong decisive woman but instead i married someone weak like my brother”
