Fun fact about this episode, that first scene after the funeral when everyone is standing around socializing and things are all awkward. That was actually the very first scene they shot for the entire season because the actors and actresses didn’t really know each other that well yet and the show runners wanted to capture that awkwardness to make the scene feel more natural!

Vhagar was one of the three dragons utilized during Aegon's Conquest of Westeros
Aegon rode Balerion the Black Dread
    Rhaenys rode Meraxes
    and Visenya rode Vhagar
Rhaenyra's father also bonded with Balerion but only got to ride him once because the dragon was too old. Meraxes died in Dorne with Rhaenys, so that's why Vhagar is the largest living dragon at this point in time because it's the oldest living one.

She's Visenya Targaryen's Dragon (Wife of Aegon the Conqueror) and Conquered the Westeros along with Balerion and Meraxes. All the agony & passion in the world as Alicent does her best McBeth in front of the fire with the dagger reflecting in Rhaenyra's eyes! “We Know Father. Everyone Knows”.That’s Aegon’s “the Prince will remember that little Lord” moment. Aemond taming Vhagar & holding his own in a 1v4 makes him the real chad in my eyes. Only wholesome moment, our Prince resting his head on his mom’s shoulder to let her know she can depend on him. Last but not least, GOATTO Hightower with the coldest win or you die reference, “we play an ugly game”...and I’m the meme of Homer Simpson decked out in green onsies, sitting on green cushions, wearing a Hightower snapback, holding a Go Greens flag with a Alicent poster on the wall😂. Rhaenyra's sons do have Velaryon blood through Rhaenyra. Aegon the Conqueror's mother was of House Velaryon, then his son Aenys married a Velaryon and had children with her, Aenys son Jahaerys was King before Viserys ascended the throne. House Velaryon and House Targaryen intermarried before they even came to Westeros so the Velaryon's and Targaryen's are related by blood anyway. Also Rhaenyra and Laenor are second cousins which makes Rhaenyra's sons 3rd cousins to Laenor so they are related to Laenor even though he's not their biological father.

It's hard to fully appreciate just how great the dagger scene is without putting into context the mirrored lives of the princess and the queen that has played out for the better part of the season. From mirroring the two contrasting fathers : "she'll obey as you command" vs "I want her to be happy", to the mirroring of the boar hunt vis a vis 'being trapped in the castle and churn out heirs' as Rhaenrya once said, to the mirroring of the depressing sex scene in the fourth episode. 'Forever upholding the kingdom, the family, the law...' it's a lifetime of suffering and being slighted boiling over in a climactic moment which is beautifully filmed and insanely well acted. This is peak television.

It’s not that Aemond can’t ‘ride a dragon’ it’s just that Vhagar is so big and this first flight was more of a ‘test’ to see if he’s worthy. Also btw, you cannot steal a dragon. Dragons aren’t cars and have their own will which means Laena’s kid (Rhaena) wouldn’t have gotten the dragon anyway if she didn’t like her. But it seemed like she liked Aemond so… here we are

Yes the dragon bonded with Aeomond, but Rhaena wasn't even given a chance to attempt and claim vhagar, it's literally the night of her mothers funeral. What Aemomd did wasn't illegal, but they're all supposed to be a family, it's about the principle, what he did wasn't fair and it shows that he doesn't care about or have any respect for his extended family. Dragons don't automatically go to the daughter or son. Targaryens usually obtain dragon's respect and obedience as they put an egg in their cradle and grow up with them. They grow with them but half of them never hatch. If yours don't the only way for you to get one is to gain the respect of an already existing one most likely roaming around freely. That's why Rhagar is that big, dragons get bigger the longer they are free and untamed. I believe since she is quite a bit old she isn't really about that roaming life anymore and was maybe resting close to her former rider's home. So Aemond technically gained her respect fair and square. He was a bit smug and rude but that's how anyone would be gaining the oldest and biggest dragon.

Why should Rhaenyra apologize? She had to stand up for her children from Allicent anyway she could. Did you guys catch/remember that when Aemond rolled up in that same scene after nearly getting roasted by the dragon he tried to claim in the pit that when Alicent questioned him on what he’d done/where he’d been, Haelyna simply says “He did it again.”
Girl knew exactly what he’d done not just cause he’s attempted it before but because she SAW IT.
She is a little different, for sure, (I actually headcanon her to be on the spectrum somewhere, potentially autistic, and at the very least neurodivergent) but also v misunderstood. We do not have official confirmation but many have guessed as it is HEAVILY implied that Haelena on top of being a dragon rider herself (her dragon is DREAMFYRE, and is the same dragon Aemond TRIED to claim in the pits in case you didn’t know) is a dragon dreamer/has the gift of prophecy/foresight. Even in this episode listen to what she is actually saying… there is a lot to unpack given how the episode plays out and where things are going. Highly reccomend going forward that you pay some serious attention to EVERYTHING she says and does cause I won’t spoil it but-- it’s ALWAYS significant even if it maybe doesn’t make sense in the moment of.

I dont het hate for Alicent...she is one of my favourite characters in the show definitely over Rhaneyra...certainly she is put under a antagonist light in the show but if you look at her actions, she is kinda in the right...she is loyal, faithful and kind of a good queen...and Otto didnt lie when he said the realm will revolt if a woman ascends the Iron Throne and Rhaneyra will kill her and her sons..so from Alicent's POV she is doing everything she can to survive, all the while seeing Rhaneyra flaunt her privilege over the kingdom...she didnt take marraige seriously when she was young, then ended up marrying Laenor only in name only...fucked Criston, and Daemon(in her mind) and then had bastard kids of Lord Strong which in her faith's eyes is a big no-no and now she seeming killed her husband to marry Daemon. and no matter what she does because of her father all her mistakes are forgiven when she knows the same would have her(Alicent) killed ..you can see how Alicent views Rhaneyra as deceitful and untrustworthy and Rhaneyra has been making mistakes and bad choices from the beginning...as much as i love Rhaneyra i am kinda on Alicent's side even though everyone else on her side is fucking manipulative liars

It’s not only Alicent’s fault her kids turned out the way they did. Viserys literally never cared for them and neglected them and she’s a child bride who was marital raped. She probably at first saw them more as brothers and sisters than kids. And in my opinion Alicent snapping is only logical because what just transpired only proves Otto’s words; that Rhaenyra may really kill her children to secure her right to the throne. (Rhaenyra ordered Aemond to be ‘sharply questioned’ which in other words means torture + how Viserys did nothing to improve anything at all)

In the end we see that the eye was not actually something she wanted too (when Larys asks), just her emotions acting up after her son was maimed. Yet, in that scene, we’re shown as if she’s she villain for feeling these emotions because of what happened to her son… Alicent isn’t perfect of course, but neither is Rhaenyra and I’m sick of people acting like she’s an angel who never did any wrong or sth

Daemon does love Rhaenyra but I think he truly loved Laena more. One of the reasons he wanted to marry Rhaenyra is just so he can technically be the heir to the Iron Throne through her and he her Prince Consort once she ascends since he’s always wanted to be his brother’s heir. So he gained something he wanted from that marriage and he knew it. It wasn’t just for love.
But for Laena, he only married her because he wanted to, with no political reasons. She was never going to inherit the rich lands in Driftmark and she didn’t have much to give to him. He gained nothing in his second marriage. So I think Daemon genuinely loved Laena more than Rhaenyra since he somewhat married the latter for power.

You’re totally able to have your opinion on that but I would have to heavily disagree with you. His reply to Rhaenyra of “we were happy enough” isn’t close to an admission of “I loved her.” In fact, many would argue (similar to their reaction and countless others to this episode) it was an actual admission that Daemon wasn’t in love with Laena at all, (hence why these reactors were like “hmm, maybe he just liked her”). And pointing out the fact Laena even acknowledged to Daemon in 1x06 that she knew she was never the wife he imagined for himself and she had made her peace with it. And the showrunners have already confirmed Daemon was never after the Iron Throne, as many have been able to interpret by the end of the show. He craves power, yes, but ultimately he was after Rhaenyra’s heart and his brother’s love and strengthening their family. He was in love with Rhaenyra from the pilot, his feelings realized by the end of 1x04, his torment without Rhaenyra acknowledged even by Laena in 1x06 with his lack of desire to go home since he couldn’t be with Rhaenyra, (also reiterating his lack of desire for the throne), his love for Rhaenyra even after 10 years apart acknowledged by 1x07 and consummated on the same day as Laena’s funeral to which he responds when Rhaenyra tells him she’s sorry for his loss with “Don’t be.” He may have liked or even if you want to believe “loved” Laena, but he was never *in love* with Laena, which is the biggest difference between Daemon and Laena’s relationship and Daemon and Rhaenyra’s relationship.

They were truly in love with each other and he proceeds to crown her as Queen and devote his life to upholding that by serving Rhaenyra, not the other way around.
