The audience, being homo sapiens, got attached to Ser Laenor from when he first appeared in episode 3, and as such, him dying later on would be far more impactful than some nameless rando who was on screen for an exceedingly short time.
To be fair it was probably Daemon's idea. Rhaenyra is not blood thirsty, i don't see her killing an innocent man like that.
Lmao I love how they all get giddy thinking Aemond is gonna snitch on Alicent, only for Aemond to throw an alley oop to Aegon and Aegon effortlessly dunks on Viserys with "we know father. everyone knows". Both gigachads don't break frame lol.
What’s sad is Aegon knew they were bastards and he didn’t care. That’s why he was like everybody knows. However, once he saw how his brother and mother were gaslighted after his brother lost his eye, he started figure out that his mother wasn’t crazy after all and he turned against his sister and nephews.
@@jjh2456 The really sad thing is Aegon didn't care about the throne and was actually shown to initially have gotten along well with Jace and Luke. The kids *could* have been close and been a family if not for Otto pushing Alicent who in turn pushed the antagonism onto the next generation. And we see what that pressure and resentment turned Aegon into.
@@margisama Aegon did not know how to differentiate Jace from Luke, they definitely would not be the most united, in the end in this episode it was shown that even without being close, Alicent's children would watch each other's backs, especially when they realize that Viserys would always be on Rhaenyra's side, even at their cost.
They actually thought that Aemond would snitch on the only parent that loved him to the parent who didn't care about his injury and never loved him and were surprised when he didn't.

The staring scenes were so awkward and you could sense the tension. I really liked the fact that this funeral was the first time everyone was on set together. Great job on the actors
No one said anything about Aemond "stealing" Vhaegar because they all know you can't steal an unclaimed dragon, they are their own creature and anyone of Valyrian blood is free to make an attempt to claim one, if Aemond had died while attempting to claim the dragon he would have failed the attempt and that would be the end of it, just as him surviving means he has claimed Vhaegar that is the end of it. Aemond is not questioned on stealing Vhaegar because that's just how the system works, Baela and Rhaena are the one's who were the only ones under the incorrect assumption you can call "dibs" on a dragon. I swear people just ignore the facts when it doesn't suit them, do people not remember Dany in GoT talking about how Dragons aren't slaves or property and how they don't have masters.
It's true he didn't steal Vhaegar, but he was still a dick towards two kids who had just lost their mom. That's what ticked most people off. Edit: You also better believe that if Vhaegar had barbequed Aemond in the attempt to claim her Alicent would have demanded that she be destroyed. Whether Viserys would have allowed it to keep the peace I can't say for sure.

It doesn’t make what he did any less fucked up. He too, advantage of Laena’s funeral to claim her grieving dragon while her family were also grieving. Whether or not he can or can’t it’s still a terrible thing, especially from a child’s perspective

I have an issue with these guys saying Aemond deserved to get beat up. Like are we watching the same scene? Rhaena attacked him first and when he pushed her back the rest joined in. And Aemond was right, Rhaena shouldn't have waited so long to claim Vhagar. AND Aemond didn't steal Vhagar, he staked his claim and Vhagar accepted.
As if taking a dragon while it's previous rider is being mourned and it's supposed next rider is in mourning ain't a prime reason for a beat down. What Aemond did was in bad taste and you're being blind to it.

When Visenya died, Vhagar was riderless for years, until she was claimed by Baelon Targaryen, the son of Visenya's NEPHEW, Jaehaerys! Any Targaryen can try to claim a dragon, but the dragon also chooses their rider. Aemond made his claim and Vhagar accepted him as her rider. End of.
That's why that wasn't brought up, because everyone knows that's how it works. Leana's kids can definitely upset about it, but Aemond's claim isn't a crime. It was just in bad taste to do it the night of her funeral

I don't care what nobody says! Aemond didn't deserve to lose his eye!!! That dragon excepted him as it's new rider. That dragon could have declined, but it didn't.
Vhagar tested Aemond and found him worthy of being her new rider: Baela mistakenly believing that her late mother's former dragon was an inheritance is not on Aemond. Aegon, Jace, and Luc all bullied Aemond because he was the only one without a dragon. Don't get me started on Alicent demanding Luc's eye as compensation for Aemond's; her own father planted the bug in her ear about Rhaenyra coming after her kids when he was dismissed as Hand. Paranoia makes you crazy.
Aemond did NOTHING wrong. To hell with the Strongs - they were always running their mouths about him not having a dragon, then they wouldn't even shoot the fair one. No wonder they all went out like bitches. At least my boy Aemond died like a warrior, by a warrior (who also died).

I will always say it, an eye for an eye is not much of a punishment, especially when in episode 1 we see Daemon dismembering the population without trial or evidence of crimes, just for a laugh, an eye for an eye is even benevolent for having attacked the prince
I don't get why everyone calls Alicent crazy for her "eye for an eye" moment. In the medieval period, those sort of punishments were pretty normal and accepted. If you were a thief, lose your hand. A murderer, you'd be executed. Having your eye taken because you took someone else's would've been considered justice. The world back then was a lot harsher and brutal than it is nowadays. The only thing I disagree with her in this instance is trying to overpower the King's decision on the matter

Vhaegar was kinda Aemond's by right though cause Laena nabbed it herself from the Targaeryens way back when. He just nabbed it back technically speaking.
Also Baela attacked him first and itjsut escalated from there. Also note how he was actually aboutto put the stone down until the blade came out.
As for Alicent. Her reaction is kinda normal. She knows Rhaenyra will come after her children one day, now Rhaenyra's sons attacked and permanently blinded one of hers.
Her husband obviously will let Rhaenyra and her sons get away with it and from Alicent's persepective he turns on her son, the victim, instead. In her mind's it's the beginning of her worst fears made manifest. Parents do unspeakable things for their children, Rhaenyra would and will do the same for hers.
I really liked your edit on this one. You kept the pacing of the episode in tact while making every moment reaction-worthy. Great job!

I just figured out why Larys was at this funeral and not his brother and fathers... Bearing that he was now the Lord of Harrenhall, It was his duty to be hit this funeral to represent his palace and place in Westeros... It makes sense now but still he should have been there first and they wouldn't understand why he wasn't here we all know how he is

It’s funny saying that Aemond stole Vhagar (which you can’t do the dragon choose the rider not the other way around there was no guarantee of Vhagar choosing baela) If you wanna go of stealing then Laena stole Vhagar of the Targaryens. It belonged to Visenya, Then Baelon, Aemonds grandfather. So all aemond did was take back Vhagar for house Targaryen. Also Aemond was in self defence here, baela attacked him first and all he did was push her away no fist of anything then her sister, jace and Luke joined on making it a 4v1, aemond only picked up the rock when they all literally climbed on top of him and started pummelling him, I wouldn’t be surprised if he thought they were gonna kill him, he never even used the rock he used it as a deterrent to make them back off. Aemond as a Targaryen was well within his right to claim a dragon, no matter the time and place and Vhagar accepted, end of story, Aemond did nothing wrong this entire episode.
Leana is 1/2 Targaryen u know. She is the daughter of Rhaenys Targaryen!

Cristen Cole should've been removed from the kingsguard for moving to cut out lucerys eye. Kingsguard are forbidden to harm members of the royal family.
Considering that it is not known what Cole was going to do since he ran into Daemon, I don't think he would go for Luke (literally 2 minutes ago he said he would not do that), I think it would be more to support getting Alicent away from Rhaenyra as his sworn shield
