- Опубликовано: 19 июн 2024
- In Shuck This, Anthony Rizzi-an oyster shucker from San Francisco’s Hog Island Oyster Co.-heads straight to the source, Hog Island Oyster Farm on Tomales Bay, for a close look at how they farm this succulent and sustainable shellfish. Anthony shows us how to shuck oysters the right way so we won’t look like rookies, and sets up a seafood buffet that shows off his love for what he calls "the purest food you could hope to consume."

I wonder who first looked at an oyster and thought "I bet there's something delicious inside that rock"
I forgive him too. After all, it’s not like everyone knows that much about oysters, let alone has seen them before
Closet Bassist You’re the one here overreacting about an oyster, and then you say that teenagers are morons. You’ve been a teenager too, honestly i think you’re the moron here.
@Closet Bassist looks like someone's on their period.
@Closet Bassist lol ok, so your best insult is calling me a native american.
Closet Bassist man you’re mad. Are you related to an oyster? It’s as if someone insulted your family
give this guy a show. have him travel to different cities that are known for their oysters. he seemed like a normal guy who just loves what he does. *cheers
@@supadupaman86 You didn't watch the video did you?..... His smoking hot girlfriend might disagree with you a bit.
Agreed
I watched the whole thing and just because you have a girlfriend that doesn't make you not a flaming homosexuaI
@@supadupaman86 You misspelled "I'm supadupaman86 , and I'm Homophobic" lol Let me help you. Here is a wonderful article called "Are Homophobic People Really Gay and Not Accepting It?" I know right.
Is it me or was dude dressed like it was summer when everyone around him dressed like it was cold?
Welcome to San Francisco. You have to pack for 3 seasons every time you walk out the door.
Does not compute sreyemhtes Me New Yorker, Me Awesome.

Me New Yorker too, Me freezing Me ass off in this 15 degree weather.
It's California. When I was in college my parents moved to SoCal. I remember coming home for christmas from the midwest and I was in shorts and everyone there was in parkas (it was in the 50s and 60s). California has almost no seasonality to the weather so people there are hyper sensitive to very small variations in temps.
It gets hot as fùck when you’re cooking for a while
This guy really loves what he does! That's always so nice to see, cheers!
See's title*
My brain:"sucking $2000 Oysters a day at a hog Island"
Rogue Bookie lol I was waiting the whole video to find it
I simply enjoy my oysters with some lemon or lime little bit of salt and tapatio!
Brooooo.... You already know!!!
👍👍
I just strait up raw dog those fuckers.
+Jxker Card try a drop of tabasco
Put some lime, salt, tapatio would make even shit taste good.
I love oysters and they look delicious. I use to go every Saturday afternoon with friends some years back to eat at least two dozen and have 5-6 beers at this place Snockey's in South Philadelphia. Made me appreciate all the hard work that happened before it went on my plate. Squeeze some lemon, a dash of Tabasco and slurp them bad boys down.
This guy is a super cool and chill dude. Thanks for the vid🍻🍻
I've been watching and closely analyzing your munchies videos long before you guys even recreated a munchies channel. You guys have great characters as your chosen hosts, but I think Anthony deserves a shot as doing more munchies videos! He's a solid host. Maybe not from a perspective of a chef, but it's nice to have a perspective from a blogger I Think because he represents the audience more. Definitely more relatable imo.
I'm an oyster and I'm offended by this video.
lol
fk u then
ROFL. #OystersToo
Oyster lives matter
Shuck you!
This guy needs his own channel, great video.
Great video.... love it , and that is what fresh food, friends and good times are about! 🍷
Miss the old days with my boys talking all night drinking beer and eating oysters
Love cruising out to Tomales Bay for oysters.
i’m happy he has such a great passion for his work
You seem to be a good friend to have. That spread was amazing.
OYSTERS, CLAMS, AND COCKLES!
Yesss. What is a cockle btw?
@@liltrooper29
an edible burrowing bivalve mollusc with a strong ribbed shell.
@@liltrooper29 its like a small mini clam it borrows itself in the sand under water. Tastes good. But you got to let them soak in water to clean out the sand inside the shell before eating
Dont forget cuckolds!
Cockles ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Get this guy on more episodes! Seems really cool, definitely knows his stuff!
This guy and video give off nothing but good vibes!
Great show...thanks.
I work for an oyster booth at my farmers market and the amount of dedication and work that these men and ladies put in is astonishing. Nothing but respect for oyster shuckers and I definitely want to be this guy's friend, that whole spread looked amazing.
When you've tried oysters from all around the US you'll recognize mediocre tasting oysters like Blue Points. Kumamotos from Seattle's Puget Sound are really good! An oyster vendor friend of mine explained that oyster happy hour deals, etc are often bought already shucked and they simply serve them up on shells they've kept.
He's doing what he loves. Gotta love that. :)
Great video! Your guest were lucky, amazing dinner party
Got my mouth watering. Cant wait til they come back in season this winter. Nothin like fresh gulf oysters with a little bit of lemon juice. Mmmmm
I wish I had friends who love good food like that, I'm a chef myself, but I grew up in the south, so all my friends eat is fried chicken and collards
i wish i had this one kind of friend..

Drugs? Got any drugs?
Great video!
Omg this place is the best !! I highly recommend them if your ever in the SF area
Dude remind me of my best friend. Loves to cook and entertain!! RIP Tito
Oysters look disgusting. But man do I enjoy watching other people eat them.
Try them once. Its just a texture thing. Tabasco and lemon juice pull in some nice flavors.
@@BrazenBullXXX yeah, they were juicy and delicious once you squeezed some lemon into it
They’re delicious actually
Some people just have different preferences and that’s fine but I’m always sad seeing people not like some seafood because there is so many opportunities for good food but you like what you like
isaac ramos iseoeoqqqoqpdud
That oyster Michelada sounds legit! Love that fridge stash of animal fats, always good to have on hand!
Not only delicious but great for the environment. Keep up the oyster management!
No oysters were harmed during the filming of this video.
Dame again
Damn ur cringe

“So that was a fucking lie”
Excellent episode with non hipster folk. Well done.
Huh? There you have a different definition of hipster than most people. This was a hipster filled episode with a few mexicans thrown in.
Ok, boomer
Used to work at a steak and lobster restaraunt before covid shut everything down. Every Tuesday and Thursday we got our seafood shipments (lobster, salmon, Lincod, sablefish) and the oysters. The general public new when we got out shipments for the week so Tuesday and Thursday were always our busy days. I worked night shift so usually from 5pm-close(12:30). I did everything around the kitchen from dish to steaks to salads. The BAIN of my existence was the oyster bar on salads. First day working it I tried my first oyster and still have ptsd about the feeling of a cold chunky snotrocket stuck in my throat, but thats besides the point. On the busy days we would not shuck under 800 oysters, theres no worse feeling than having a bill for 60, and then dozens upon dozens upon dozens of them com in on top of it. This video was a hard throwback for me. Ps, if you're gonna fuck with oysters, cook em! (Oyster Rockefeller is actually amazing)
Awesome idea!!
Doctor: "Our tests are telling us, well, you are an oyster"
Oyster shucker: "Shucks"
yo someone get this guy his own show.
finally a place im interested in from these videos where i could actually go since its in my city
omg. my mouth was watering watching this oyster video.
These workers fucking HATE this guy lol.
This guy never went out to get oysters and he’s going about like if he does this all the time
Yea, just a spoiled kid acting like he works. He should've invited the workers to his yuppie hangout.
@@telegoose9905 didn't he say he shucks 2000 oysters a day?
@@timtimtheturtle9861 He did, but people on RUclips like to be selective on what they consider "real work". People will find anything to complain about. I respect this guys work ethic!
TimTimTheTurtle Games yeah but these are youtube commenters obviously they’re not smart.
how is he acting like he does this all the time? all throughout the video he's making self-deprecating jokes about the fact that he isn't used to going out to get oysters as the rest of the guys who do it every day. people will find ANYTHING to complain about these days
You go boy! Bravo!
Went to this farm for a picnic last summer. Miss grilling and shucking at that farm
so that's why we're 50 short...
I tried my first oyster last weekend... I’m addicted now.
Excellent! Love fresh oysters but I live as far from fresh seafood as one can get! Best I can dp are ribs, brisket and pork shoulder on the BGE here.
I've sampled Hog Island Oyster's own variety: Sweetwater. They were great with a balanced flavor. My dining companion - who never tried an oyster before - immediately wanted to order more.
This was like A chef night out but without the bs.
Warriors qame.
His mom must be so proud.
Anthony seems like a good lad ! You rule dude !
That dude is awesome!
im so confused.. if you shuck with these farmers daily because they work for you- why are you all acting like you just met for the first time? what am i missing here.
Haha 😂 I’m glad I’m not the only one that had that in mind smh 🤦♂️ who’s men’s is this
Was wondering that also
I think since it’s such a big company he doesn’t farm the oysters, he just shucks them, so he hasn’t actually met them before. And they just farm, and don’t work in the restaurant. He was out on the farm to learn the ropes for the video.
He works at the restaurant that sells these oyster but these farmers harvest the oysters and sell/bring them to the restaurant
What ^Evan said. The guy works at a restaurant on one of the piers. I’m pretty sure I’ve been to that restaurant
What a chill dude, get him a show munchies
I live in SF and have never been to this restaurant. Will definitely check it out!
I need a friend like this dude
what's the outro music? also has anyone ever tried deep fried oyster if not they're amazing and you have to give it a try!!!!!
"I love to cook " serves raw food
those dexter russell oyster knives really are the best. they make shucking so easy
Love this
this guy loves the word shuck
Gotta try oysters from Louisiana if you really wanna have the experience
Karl Rockvoan Ich weiß nicht, ich denke Europäische Austern sind die besten .
Could say the same about Mexico. Fresh from the water with lime and valentina salsa!!
I haven’t eaten oysters from other parts of the country, Theirs difference in taste every where , so that being said enjoy your state’s flavors
Patrick Ryan we only harvest in the cooler months, but some reefs are in deep water which is harvested for the oyster bars in New Orleans
Been here and it’s not just oysters. They have an amazing grilled cheese made by the shop next door and also a great seafood linguini! Also a full bar and row of beers on tap
looks good man
strong math...it would be 32,000
I was like: you gotta be kidding me. easiest math right there. :-D
The world is their oyster
Alexander Schmidt give or take.
I was sooo confused lol
did he say something in the millions?
Who cares what year it is, mason jars are fucking awesome!
Did you blog about that on your typewriter... Pfft.
That looks soo good
That's just awesome thanks👍👍
should do chefs night out with him as well seems like such a cool dude
he has the job and lifestyle i want
So....did it work out?
I've sat at that very bench shucking oysters to my heart's content. Piece of heaven I tell ya.
Your amazing! Love all of your dishes!
Your guests are super lucky 😊
Seem like a cool dude! Next time invite me also i want some oysters😂
Where do I find friends like this?!
Good for you man
I had to pause this video to go down and get some oysters can't wait also picked up some prawns
Ever since I realized my girlfriend tastes like oysters, i just can't stop eating them anymore.
What does he say at 6:44? "Taste the _____; taste the liquor." Miroire? Miruard? It's driving me crazy.
I know he's not an oyster fan
Miroire
Metal water.
Beautiful life man .
I'm hungry again. I got too stop watching these cooking channels lol
i legit have no clue why this is in my recommended and why i clicked it
didnt regret any part of ti
Nobody:
Not a single soul:
RUclips: Hey, wanna watch guys shucking oysters?
We ventured from Colorado to Cali last November for my wife's 40th birthday and their coastal bar was on our list. Confirmed: Amazing place, people, and oysters.
"everybody go home, nevermind lets drink some moer" i like this guy already
2:00 it sounds like a drug deal 😂
now I'm torturing myself with all these food channels, great, got to eat
Good guy you are!
Is just me, or did anyone else get a mouthwatering moment with the michelada???
People will keep saying how much oysters he ate but I am sure that his gf won’t mind
Oyster Shucker Salary
Median Salary: $23,850
Median hourly Wage: $11.47
How do you survive with these wages with the cost of living in SF so high. Hes gotta be blowing the landlord.
Have you been to Hog Island Oyster in SF? The line is out the door. The median salary and hourly does not include tips. I know a guy who worked there and he makes $300-400 per day in tips. Do the math, at $300 per day, 4 days per week, thats $62,400 in tips alone. Add the salary, $23K, and a shucker can feasibly make $95-100K per year.
poppazach If the peeps salaries and tip at hog island was public information, then ur rant make sense. Since, its not public, i have to use national statistics. So drink some kool aid and cool off.
It's not really a rant....just logical thinking. 1. My buddy worked there so I have a relatively good grasp on the figures. 2. The median salary for a bartender is $18,295 yet I was a bartender for 7 years and on my worst year I made $65K. Using statistics as a basis for your argument, as it relates to this profession, is flawed. Time to wake up...
Do i have to spell it out for you. omg. How would anyone who doesnt have personal experience in the industry know the exact ins and outs of everything. A person can only get a broad sense with the basic information available to him on the net. Maybe if i was super interested in working in the industry, i could dig really deep to get specific information. Just stfu, obviously your oblivious to the idea that not everyone has experience and vast knowledge of every industry.
OCSleazy Lets believe the internet. Internet tells no lies.
....and the missus arrives with the whiskey. Yessireebob!!
When I had a hardwood flooring company with my friend we worked 16 hour or even 24 hour days. When we got a break we would buy a bushel of clams, steam them till the mouth opens be and eat em as they were with canned coke. Simple but God damn good.
Wait if 800 oysters per rack and there’s 40 racks 800x40 is 3200 what is this guy playing at
The dude that lifts all of the oyster racks straight got super cheap over ONE oyster lmao
Forest Whitaker's Eye the dude in the video either owns or is close with the owner i don’t think he cared 😂
I don’t really like oysters but geez I enjoy watching people farm, shuck, and eat them. 🤤
Tomales Bay oysters are so bomb. I always go when i drive up to Norcal (I live in L.A.)
