I am not a Christian but studied Bible, and there is verse in the Bible where God says that when a wicked turns away from his wickedness and do righteousness, God assures him that he will forget all his sins .
God can't forget anything but here FORGET means , God will not take in to consideration, the sins of the wicked if he turns repentant.😊
That's what Jesus taught...most christians say...Jesus died for our sin..you believe in him you will have paradise...no need for repentance and good deeds....

Once Jesus shed his blood, whole mankind is free of Adam's sin but if a person want to enjoy the blessings of God in paradise, he has to repent for his own sins on the basis of Jesus blood and live according to the teachings of GOD and JESUS CHRIST ( john 17:3)

You can even understand it by another verse in Surah Al-Kahf aya: 105!!!
"They are those who deny the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of their Lord and the Meeting with Him (in the Hereafter). So their works are in vain, and on the Day of Resurrection, We shall not give them any weight.

It's not even confusing in the Sahih International if the person has a good command of the English language. It's clear that the word "Forget" is not even talking about "Forgetting" as an act of "lapse in memory". The entire context of the sentence is more of a warning of an equivalent "retribution" or "respond" or "reaction" to the other person's action. In a very simplified way it's basically saying "I will love you, if you love me" or "I will hurt you, if you hurt me". The context of the sentence isn't talking about the action but it is talking about an equal reaction.

Yeah, someone told me that a few years ago. I burst out laughing as well.
Just a few thoughts as an agnostic going through and learning different religions:
the first Quran translation I bought was the clear Quran by Mustafa Khattab, but I later also got the noble Quran and Sahih international since I saw sheikh uthman in a video saying that the clear Quran is slanted towards offering footnotes explaining aqidah-related verses from an ashari perspective, and that I should focus on the athari aqidah instead. However, the actual translation of the clear Quran does surpass sahih international in some cases, like this one. I remember reading the introduction and coming across this exact example actually.
I like that syfe provided tafsir like he usually does and additional translations to provide more depth and understanding to the text, but it wasn't even necessary in this case...that's how ridiculous the hindu's claim was. The verse makes it clear that the way Allah will "forget" about the disbelievers is the exact same way that the disbelievers "forgot" about Allah. It's not talking about knowing something intellectually, but rather about ignoring something. I wish syfe stuck with the "ignore" synonym instead of saying "deliberately ceasing to think of" because the former is clearer while leaving less room for some heretical, nonsensical, and blasphemous notion about God limiting himself in this case like some other religions claim is possible about their version/understanding of God.

As someone who isn't an expert or raised in Islam though, it can be difficult to tell sometimes what is universally agreed upon by Muslims and what is specific to the author's aqidah, which is why I got some other translations too. When I use the Quran website, I usually go with clear Quran, noble Quran, sahih international, and Yusuf Ali.

Many scholars in Islam were occupied with knowledge that they didn't get married as they saw that life as distracting from teaching students, writing books etc

Those who forget Allah, that is, those who do not remember Him, who do not fulfill His commands, who do not fear Him at all, who behave as if Allah does not exist, will be punished in the same way in hell. So forgetting in the verse means that you will be treated as forgotten, you will not be helped.
