    Blessed are those that see this video. I'm making a twin bed skirt with total of 310 inches to gather. I have gathered the first panel using these instructions. Sooo easy. Thanks from the bottom of my heart.

    This is the 2nd video of this technique I've watched today and I'm blown away. I'm 68 and learned to sew from my home ec teacher mother 60 YEARS AGO and never saw this technique! I've recently started sewing again and a lot of the patterns I'm buying have gathered skirts, some in tiers (insert frustrated swearing here!). Anyway, Thank you-- this will make things so much easier!

    I was just sitting down to gather the skirt of a dress for my granddaughter and dreading the gathering part of it! I thought I'd check on RUclips to see if there was an easier way and I found your method! It is GENIUS!! Thank you! I have been sewing for 40 years and avoid anything with gathers like the plague! No longer!!

    I watched this video about 3 days ago. I was having a very hard time with gathering fabric, so I started looking to see what was out there. I am a beginner when it comes to the sewing machine, but not so beginner that I'm wet behind the ears. I don't have any way to be trained, so RUclips is my best friend. I have made some towel toppers this weekend and needed to gather the fabric. Your method was super easy because my basting threads never broke. I just wanted you to know how great of advice you gave with excellent energy and delivery in your video! Thank you!

    Fantastic! Years of painful gather stitching just now made so simple! I too have a question of how to pull through double the length of your fabric as Im making bed skirts with a total of 25 meters - each 5 meter pieces - so I need to pull through 10 meters? That's going to make a mess and get tangled - any suggestions? Not sure my robin will take 10 meters? Also, I have selected to use ultra thick thread for this project to over avoid snapping on gathering!.

    • @SewAnastasia

      U can just pull as much thread as you need it gathered. So if your final project is 2 meters I would pull a little bit more then 2 meters

    What do you do with your strings after you gather? I can’t just hold them the whole time if it’s a huge piece of fabric.. also it tried to smoosh out as soon as I try to straight stitch

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  Год назад

      You should try pinning it to another piece of fabric or a piece of seam tape if it’s a stand alone ruffle.

    Do you hem the fabric before you make the gathering stitches not sure

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  4 года назад

      No need to hem the fabric before the gathering stitches in most cases. If it's something small like a ruffle I might gather it first, but otherwise I'll probably do it at the end. Happy Sewing!

    Okay so I'm making a skirt and the book I got the pattern from says that you should gather in sections to keep the thread from snapping. Since we have these strong threads, do I still need to do that?
    And do you still have to baste stitch over this to keep it in place?

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  3 года назад

      Nope! Just use this zigzag method & you should be good. What kind of fabric are you gathering?

    • @Lyndasmelody
      @Lyndasmelody 3 года назад +1

      @@SewAnastasia it's 100% cotton.
      So I would just sew my waistband on?

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  3 года назад +2

      @@Lyndasmelody you should have no problem running this zig zag gathering stitch & gathering it all up with no breaking. That’s the awesomeness of this stitch! It’s wayyyy better then basting stitches .... they always break!

    I've tried your technique a few times and my thread unravels each time I try to adjust the gather even though I back stitched. What am I doing wrong?

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  3 года назад

      Hummmmmm are you stitching over 2 threads? The zig zag stitch is coming undone?

    • @erc031184
      @erc031184 3 года назад

      @@SewAnastasia Yes, I am. Could it be a tension problem? I set the tension to 8, stitch number 4 (zig zag), length to 3.5 , and stitch width to 4.

    Where was this video 5 years ago when I made my LGBT+ Pride Skirt: a four-tiered, heavy satin and tulle ruffle monstrosity, with the bottom most layer ELEVEN yards long pre-gather? I am so glad to see this method because friends have wanted to make them one but I always laughed in their face. I actually WANT to make those skirts now!

    This does NOT work if you are gathering more than a yard of fabric... you’re wasting your time... your instructed to pull twice the amount of the length of the fabric... so I have to pull 6 yards of thread from both the spool AND the bobbin... How? It keeps snapping and tangling... don’t waste your time like I just did...

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  3 года назад

      Pull the amount you need for your complete project yardage then. That will work too.

      Then you should use the basting method . You can watch a video on that here How To Use a Basting Stitch and how to Gather with a basting stitch | Sew Anastasia
