As someone with 4c hair myself i'd be very cautious with mini twist. Theres a reason hair twisting is whats used to create locs. When i did medium-large sized twist and washed my scalp once a week. By the second week my hair was immensely locing. I believe its because the water causes the hair to expand in the loose twist and when it dries it shrinks back up. This process causes strand to intertwine and matt together. With mini braids the hair is constricted and lengthened so as long as you moisturize regularly you won't deal with that issue. You mentioned your hair was 4a so maybe you wont deal with this problem but just be careful.
@@Jem5122 that just may be a common thing amongst type 4 hair (I’m a,b,c,d,e,f,g) twists used to make it so much more difficult to unravel if it wet them. I was thinking if I do it, then redo and wash every 2 weeks. Idk how my scalp will take it but I like experimenting lol

@@deborahadeniji2583 wellllllll thinking about your scalp I would say yes. But thinking about your strands, probably not. The extensions can cause it to be more weighed down which would cause breakage. But everyone’s hair is different so I can’t say for sure 🤗

@@steexy_7vn plaits are DEF a better protective style. now that I can say I’ve done them and they worked, I think I want more convenience and aesthetics in my life (time wise lol) twists just look prettier lol
Hi. Been following your routine for about a year now. I had a question about hair shedding. I do my box braids in like shmedium size. I keep them in for about 2 months at a time. When I take out the braid I have clunks/balls of shed hair, especially at the root of the braid. the amount of shed hair that comes out, feels like it’s too much. I’m not sure if it’s because the braids are too small, too tight, or just my hair texture making it seem like a lot. I also wash & wet my hair multiple times a month due to religious reasons. So how can I avoice that much shed hair even with the washing?
@@NunusExperience hey! Seeing a ball of shed hair can be concerning for sure. Our hair sheds 50 strands a day. If you have your hair in plaits for 2 months without removing the shed hair then that would be a lot at one time. You can experiment and take a break for 2 months. Collect and save all shed hair and compare the balls.
New viewer! Do you part your hair wet or dry? I have so much trouble part my hair straight because my hair is fine, high density and long. It webs so easily. It was definitely easier when my hair was shorter. Also, do you drink or spray the tea on your scalp?
@@FTYC2022 baby I drankssss the tea (sometimes I put it on my hair but I’m a drinker).. it depends on the style I’m doing. I’ll part dry and stretched if doing braids and I’ll part wet if I’m doing twists.. And WELCOME!!!!!
@SharatiaBanks lol got it! I drink green tea as well but I spray the front portion of my scalp and edges with rosemary tea to help with any DHT hibernating there 😅
I feel like you should just cut little by little too! Twists/plaits i feel keeps that at bay even with the two different densities. It still looks good!!! Keep that length 😂
@@latrice313 growing an inch a month would be awesome, I wish!!!! (There were months that were half or less than that).. but I’d say it’s a combination of everything I’ve been doing consistently. I did notice that whenever I massage my head more frequently, I have better results that month. July didn’t grow and that was the month that I did take any vitamins, teas, massages, washes, nothing. And it showed when I did my length check.
Wow how in the world did you hair gain that much length in a year 😮? That is amazing. Maybe I need those vitamins. I think you should stick with the plaits because you already know it's working for you. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. 😊
I’m for the big chop. Health over length, I personally can’t stand having straggly ends and damaged hair for the sake of length. I’ve been growing out my hair with small trims and haircuts for over a year. I finally just cut the rest the damage off so now I have a healthy bob in time for the new year.
Please do twists 🥹 I was also doing plaits in 2024 and now am bored of them so am doing twists in 2025 because I also want to compare the two .it will be good if you can do twist for a few months then make a comparison video of the pros and cons of each 😊
I want to say twists sooooo bad. But they just don't last as long. And in my experience twist get much more matted so much easier than braids. Now maybe if/ when you're looking to do like a two week style without washing..... I'd choose twist
You should never de-tangle your hair wet or with conditioner. Using oil is best. You hair is weakest when wet and that's a scientific fact. when your hair is wet, compare it to being paralyzed, your hair can't fight back and it snaps easier, whereas if your hair was dry, it could hold strong. Detangling with conditioner leads to thinning which you can see that you have lower down your hair. Not all your strands are making it to the bottom. From Jan - Dec your hair is really thin, so your not maintaining as much as you think, possibly in just that one area. A video can only tell so much. You did really good, you just need a professional at this point. I would like to see you get a consult from a pro.
@@FTYC2022 I promise you that you will have less breakage every time you detangle dry with oil than using conditioner. Your hair should never be so tangled that you have to "paralyze" it with water to detangle. If it is, you need to re-thing your hair routine/practices. When you detangle dry, you wont have a shower/sink/paddle brush full of hair, promise you. Oil will give you enough slip over your cuticle to detangle without breaking your hair bonds or breaking your hair. Your hair don't need to be "soft" to detangle, you need the cuticles to lay down so that it won't catch on other hair's cuticles which can cause breakage.
@For_What I appreciate your tips. My hair is high density and fine. It webs easily and tangles no matter what style I do-granted pulling it up into a high bun makes it worse even if its undisturbed. I tried "oil only" and my hair broke at the ends and along the roots; I need dampness. I use the African Pride pre poo and it helps A LOT. I may try a flaxeed pre poo soon. My hair is almost waist-length. I don't think there is a one size fits all when it comes to detangling because our hair types are all so different.
@@For_What yes, scientifically speaking, hair is the weakest when it’s wet. BUT it is also the most malleable. With Afro kinky hair, it’s most manageable when it’s wet or have a moisturizing/hydrating agent. Everyone’s hair is different, so always do you. As for me and my strands, we sticking with conditioner 🤗 The ends of my hair are heat damaged So when I smooth conditioner on it, it looks a lot different than the roots.. drastically because I’ve smoothed it on heavily lol thus I am maintaining as much as I think 🤙🏾

Hi Sharatia, would you also recommend washing your braids when it’s in extensions? I currently have hair extensions on and I’m wondering if it’s ok that way 😊
@@deborahadeniji2583 wellllllll thinking about your scalp I would say yes. But thinking about your strands, probably not. The extensions can cause it to be more weighed down which would cause breakage. But everyone’s hair is different so I can’t say for sure 🤗

I usually do twists in my hair cause it’s easier but do you think plaits make for a better protective style? I started doing my own hair in February of this year so I’m still knew to the whole thing

@ thank you!😊

I drink green tea as well but I spray the front portion of my scalp and edges with rosemary tea to help with any DHT hibernating there 😅
@@FTYC2022 lol at hibernating
I feel like you should just cut little by little too! Twists/plaits i feel keeps that at bay even with the two different densities. It still looks good!!! Keep that length 😂

What do you think out of all your routine could be the cause of you being able to gain an inch of growth a month? You grew a lot in a year!

@tendaichipo hi there!
i say just cut your hair up to the January’s line so it can have most of the damage off
@@deviinp oooooo that’s smart! I wouldn’t have to deal with so much of the different textures!
I think you'd look really pretty with a big chop.
@@tav_princessprincess3770 thankssssss! I’m thinking shoulder length 😏😏 a nice bob! One length all around would be excitinggggggggg.
I’m for the big chop. Health over length, I personally can’t stand having straggly ends and damaged hair for the sake of length. I’ve been growing out my hair with small trims and haircuts for over a year. I finally just cut the rest the damage off so now I have a healthy bob in time for the new year.
Please do twists 🥹 I was also doing plaits in 2024 and now am bored of them so am doing twists in 2025 because I also want to compare the two .it will be good if you can do twist for a few months then make a comparison video of the pros and cons of each 😊
I thought I was doing something wrong because the hair is coming out of the plaits😭 I guess it's normal

How do you detangle dry hair with oil and avoid breakage. Shouldn't the hair at least be slightly damp so that it's pliable? Oil doesn't soften
As for me and my strands, we sticking with conditioner 🤗
The ends of my hair are heat damaged So when I smooth conditioner on it, it looks a lot different than the roots.. drastically because I’ve smoothed it on heavily lol thus I am maintaining as much as I think 🤙🏾
@FTYC2022 Oil isn't enough to soften my hair either. It has to be at least damp and oiled for me to detangle to reduce breakage.
