I used HLG with my S1 on my latest video and it made editing so much faster. I am excited to try V-Log as soon as my filmmaker upgrade arrives this week 🙂

The other BIG advantage of HLG vs LOG is that so many camera's are LOG 8bit. There just isn't enough color data to "return" to the file when grading. I see so so so many RUclipsrs shooting log and their grading and applying luts is aweful. Poor skin tone, contrast all over the place, inaccurate white balance and midtone roll off. HLG converted to a rec709 is much superior unless your able to shoot raw or pro res raw or Black Magic Raw. Don't believe me, take a Sony, Canon or Nikon (without atomos external) - Shoot a file in LOG and one in HLG and then try to edit them. HLG will win.
yes, cool , but exposure is not brightness; you need a certain amount of light on your sensor, based on the gamma curve that you selected, to get the correct exposure; if you are talking about color grading, probably 10 bit wins; but most of the time the exposure is not correctly obtained hence poor results in post; a classical mistake it is shown in this video when lok is unboxing that camera bag; instead of exposing correctly for the skin tones he is more concerned of not blowing out the window light, then in post he tries to correct the exposure for the skin tones, like wtf? why didn't you get it right in camera? because i want to look cinematic........
just make your timeline HLG too, you dont have to convert anything. the HLG can see if your monitor is HDR or SDR and adapt the color space acordingly.

My understanding is, HLG is meant for when you playback HLG on SDR display, it throw away a lot of dynamic range to make it works; what I shown here is make use of the full dynamic range of HLG, selectively pick what I want to have in my SDR video (I probably haven't made it clear I'm trying to deliver SDR content, the timeline is in SDR). The FCPX tool is like a LUT that do half the work for you, makes it easier to colour correct.
Color space is bt2020 much larger than rec709. You won’t be able to see the colors on a rec709 monitor. You need a hdr tv at least. Some cameras can capture 15 stops dynamic range. Ut the sensor is not able to capture diferent color space. It’s all markering

The Rotolight basically “extend” the width of my window (makes it looks like the window in front wider than it actually is). I could do without the light but the background would be much brighter, makes it look busier. A reflector by my left reduce shadow on the left side of my face.
Hey Lok! Thanks for the color-tips - is quite easy to apply in Premiere Pro also. The Loupedeck seems great, if I find it somewhere I will consider trying it out.
Yep time for me to go research the loupedecks. I think this would especially help me because I broke my wrist on Thursday and can’t use my right hand for a while. So learning to do things left-handed has been a pain in the butt.
I feel for you. I knew a Snowboarder who did it and said the worst thing was how his girl friend had to wipe his ass. He bought wrist braces after that and I think the main reason was to make sure he would never have to have her do that again.

when you say hlg is hdr and has more dynamic range, i just want to remind you that hlg is 800% rec709, but slog is 1300%; also, cine is 400%; the only cine ( hypergamma) worth using is hg 7 and 8 which goes also at 800%rec709, but they are not available in all sony cameras

How could you reach the ISO value of 125 in the hlg-mode? In my S1 is the lowest ISO of 400 possible.
