    Resident Evil 4 is one of the most widely speculated games in the franchise, due to numerous mysteries surrounding its characters, enemies, and environments.
    While we recognize the “Heirloom Theory” to be nothing more than a rumor, we still had a great time investigating the possible origins behind the Broken Butterfly. But who knows, maybe this connection really was the plan all along?
    Let us know what you think.

      I wish they did do this if they hadn't. It would really add a small bit of lore to the story for why it was locked away in a treasure room in Salazar's castle!
      I mean it's clearly a powerful weapon despite being a well kept antique. Hiding it away instead of being used by say...Salazar himself would to me be because of sentimental value. OH imagine how good a cutscene it would make if the little shit saw us using his family heirloom to blast away at his right hand or some of his minions.
      "Is that...My Grandfather's gun?! HOW DARE YOU STEAL FROM MY FAMILY'S TREASURE ROOM, YOU THIEF! KILL THIS THIEVING INGRATE NOW! I WANT MY GRANDFATHER'S GUN BACK IN ONE PIECE!"

      Ok hold on I found one interesting article about latrines aka toilets from medieval castles.
      www.ancient.eu/article/1239/toilets-in-a-medieval-castle/
      However this article is likely referring to British castles, not Spanish, and since I'll surmise the Salazar castle has likely gone through renovations through different eras, I would like to add certain features of the castle is of a different era. One example is that bedroom mentioned. I'm a hobbyist but I feel that this infamous bedroom is of the Baroque to Rococo period because it's a lot more ostentatious in design and has a specific fashion, even when compared against large medieval bedrooms.
      So I guess this is a gateway in researching further into old European architecture since Capcom is into that A LOT

      I mean the heirloom idea makes sense it could have been a 1860 revolver originally but wear tear and age you'd have to replace parts eventually if not to just use modern ammo so it being a frankenstein checks out.

      Still would make little sense if the RE4 Magnums are firing .45 Magnum loads, top break action was LARGELY abandoned in Revolver design BECAUSE it created a weakspot on the structure when handling higher end loads (Consider the iconic MW3 REX russian Revolver (yes, the stupidest, most useless high damage Pistol there due to unusual reload length despite speedloader being part of it), a Top break action Export Revolver that FLOPPED HARD due to the INTENSIVE CARE the damn thing had to be under due to said Top break system making the .357 Magnum loads wreck that hinge durability).
      A more "late 19th century" esque design would be Gateloader (a 'gate' by one side of the backplate of the cylinder holder, eject cartridges one by one then load then one by one, all manual).
      This frankenstein of a gun is probably a National attempt at gun manufacture that went HORRIBLY wrong and the Salazar Family acquired that thing because.... tastes....

Cartridge revolvers really didn’t exist before the 1870s. But I love all those old guns. During the period of the civil war there was an incredible amount of innovation going on in the gun world because the Civil war created a huge market for firearms. Just the attention to detail on the firearms themselves, their role in the games and how they tie into the lore, along with the outstanding video editing just make for extremely high quality videos. You guys have my deepest respect!
    In terms of guns I'd love to see covered at some point, I'm sure you guys get these requests pretty often, but Leon's iconic Silver Ghost from RE4, the Smith & Wesson 500 magnum aka the Handcannon, and the S.T.A.R.S. custom Benelli M3 assault shotgun from REmake would make for some stellar videos. I swear these KendoGunShop videos are so informative, interesting and exciting to watch, specially for someone that is really into weaponry, and I really appreciate that it was the Broken Butterfly's turn for this video.
    The Broken Butterfly right beside the Hand cannon with the default reload are by far my favorite reloads from that game, the way Leon accurately and almost rhythmically put every bullet on each chamber is way more than just stylish.

    So regarding the "Heirloom Theory", I think the obvious explanation for why it looks so different from the gun in the painting is that it originally was the gun in that painting that's had like a couple of centuries of upgrades performed on it by the Salazar family.

  • @daddysempaichan
    @daddysempaichan 3 года назад +3

    It could be that the revolver was a Salazar heirloom, but was modified to the form we have today, likely through the Merchant. Alternatively, Salazar or someone traded in the heirloom for the Broken Butterfly, for one reason or another, which is why the Merchant sells the same exact gun as the one in the chest.

  • @Vulgarth1
    @Vulgarth1 3 года назад +1

    A note about the Merchant's special dialogue when selecting the BB in the shop - it seems to be a reference to MGS3's Revolver Ocelot boss fight 1 and the MGS1 Revolver Ocelot fight. In both boss battles, Ocelot makes repeated references to the thrill and pleasure of reloading a revolver by hand-inserting the rounds into each chamber.
    Great video as always, Joseph. I love this channel.

    I think in the picture with the key is actually a Colt Patterson

    • @hallofguns8174
      @hallofguns8174 3 года назад +2

      I do not think so. Originally the Paterson did not have a loading lever as depicted in the painting, additionally when one was added in later models did not look like the latch style of the 1860 army. Finally, the Paterson never had a trigger guard whatsoever while the painting one does.

    I'm 3 years late to the party here, but here's a handy tip for any of you new RE4 Original players: When the Broken Butterfly is empty, take it to the Merchant and upgrade it's ammo capacity. When you do this, he fully reloads it for you! That's a full clip of ammo to play with, plus the extra bullet! You'll be shredding through enemies in no time!
    ...Of course, this only works on your first playthrough of the game, since you'll likely max out it's upgrades by the end. So NewGame+, you'll have to rely on finding ammo for it in the field.

    The care and the detail to the aesthetic of the custom imagery/set pieces shown on these videos shouldn't go without recognition!
