I love this, man! You choose to cover the Sundays, and then you have chord graphic, AND THEN you don't waste time at all and get right into it. Also made your own backing track so people learn how to play with that properly too.
People I know, places I go Make me feel tongue tied But I can see how people look down They're on the inside Here's where the story ends People I see, weary of me Showing my good side I can see how people look down I'm on the outside Here's where the story ends Ooh, here's where the story ends It's that little souvenir of a terrible year Which makes my eyes feel sore Oh, I never should have said the books that you read Were all I loved you for It's that little souvenir of a terrible year Which makes me wonder why It's the memories of your shed that make me turn red Surprise, surprise, surprise Crazy I know, places I go Make me feel so tired And I can see how people look down I'm on the outside Oh, here's where the story ends Ooh, here's where the story ends It's that little souvenir of a terrible year Which makes my eyes feel sore And who ever would've thought the books that you brought Were all I loved you for Oh, the devil in me said, "Go down to the shed" I know where I belong But the only thing I ever really wanted to say Was wrong, was wrong, was wrong It's that little souvenir of a colorful year Which makes me smile inside So I cynically, cynically say the world is that way Surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise Here's where the story ends Ooh, here's where the story ends
Wow - thanks so much for this. I am a big fan of The Sundays (showing my age) and this is really helpful. I'd love to see you doing "Joy" if at all possible.
This is so cool. I used to play all the chords as simple open chords, which made it difficult to incorporate the sparse high lead into the strumming, which however I used to try to do at the same time. The open chords you used on the higher frets however will make it easier to hit the high notes and flourishes if I try this again. Thanks for sharing, I love learning new open chords. Also I tend to put my pinkie on the D, on the B string when I strum that open G7, which tends to help a lot with the little flourishes on the outro in particular. The difficulty in this song for me has tended to be in trying to continue that exact quirky, simple, but elusive strum pattern and rhythm (but keeping an ear on the rhythm of the outro flourish helps to remember it I think).
Thanks! This was a tricky one to work out, there are so few live videos that show what the original guitar part was playing. And those that do exist are low quality. I could see that the guitarist was playing up high for the choruses so I figured chord shapes out over time!
@@LeftHandedGuitarist The Sundays are indeed one of my most favourite bands, so I'm incredibly lucky to have run into you here. Good on you for studying the videos.. the mark of a dedicated learner! Do note that I edited my comment above just a moment ago, on which I added my few little tips as well, as far as the flourishes go and so on. But I'm sure you've figured them out already. Again, really nice to meet you here, I look forward to learning more through your videos. In fact, thanks to you, I am working on improving my own rendition of it now, right now on my Les Paul Studio (unplugged 'cause people are sleeping). :) Subscribed!
Yep, I think I've got a bit closer to the original, plus it's easier than how I'd previously figured it out. A shame there is so little live footage of worth to see what's going on!
Came here looking for your previous video lesson of this song which I liked a lot and was still working on. Are all those videos gone for good? I'll miss them!
A bit late but when you do Cadd9 you should play the third string. The fourth string is involuntarily muted if u put your fingers in the strings like the video shows
I was like - yes! Finally a tutorial of this great song. Then I click and realise you've got your guitar flipped in reverse. It'll be bloody hard for me to follow mate. Damn! But sounds great.
Great job - interesting to see the left have view but great if you practice in front of a mirror. As an aside the key is way to high for a tenor male vocal - I have to drop the whole thing half an octave and reconfigure the chords accordingly! Makes it even more smiths like ….
It's always tricky. The more you play, the more your muscles will stretch and adapt. You'll figure out the best hand position. It may take time but it will happen. The muscles need to be trained to do things they're not used to. Take it slow and don't strain anything!
I love this, man!

Thanks! Great to hear your liked it! It took a lot of work.
Thank you so much. I never thought of seeing a cover/tutorial of The Sundays these days.

Such a underrated band. Thanks for the lesson
Great lesson...great ears-especially the bridges 2nd chord.
I relate to this song so much im so glad I found this tutorial!!
I love learning from left handed guitar, it's like looking in the mirror so it makes it very easy.
Such a lovely song to play.. and relatively simple too. Thanks for this.
Left-handed guitar lessons! And for a great song - Bravo!
I love The Sundays guitar work.
People I know, places I go
Make me feel tongue tied
But I can see how people look down
They're on the inside
Here's where the story ends
People I see, weary of me
Showing my good side
I can see how people look down
I'm on the outside
Here's where the story ends
Ooh, here's where the story ends
It's that little souvenir of a terrible year
Which makes my eyes feel sore
Oh, I never should have said the books that you read
Were all I loved you for
It's that little souvenir of a terrible year
Which makes me wonder why
It's the memories of your shed that make me turn red
Surprise, surprise, surprise
Crazy I know, places I go
Make me feel so tired
And I can see how people look down
I'm on the outside
Oh, here's where the story ends
Ooh, here's where the story ends
It's that little souvenir of a terrible year
Which makes my eyes feel sore
And who ever would've thought the books that you brought
Were all I loved you for
Oh, the devil in me said, "Go down to the shed"
I know where I belong
But the only thing I ever really wanted to say
Was wrong, was wrong, was wrong
It's that little souvenir of a colorful year
Which makes me smile inside
So I cynically, cynically say the world is that way
Surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise
Here's where the story ends
Ooh, here's where the story ends
This is an absolutely fantastic version and really easy to learn from. Thank you!
Nailed it! So many tabs just miss the mark 😉 Thanks - I was nearly there on my own 😂
Absolutely Brilliant! Looking forward to more. Kudos!

that was just perfect. thank you.

Sweet, I was actually learning this from the original video. This one sounds more accurate too.

This is really super great thank you!
You're welcome, I hope it helped you!
Can righties play, too? Great song and lesson. Nice, simple and all you need without the stuff you don't.
can you do one on "24 hours" by the Sundays
Brilliant.thanks
Brilliant.
Came here looking for your previous video lesson of this song which I liked a lot and was still working on. Are all those videos gone for good? I'll miss them!
Had to remove for copyright reasons. The new version is better in my opinion anyway, as I was able to update it to be more accurate.
thanks a lot
Brilliant, as always!
Also first!
When I play Cadd9, do I have to mute the third and fourth string with my index finger? A bit difficult...
I put right-handed diagrams on screen for exactly this reason!
I appreciate that mate. Many thanks.

A very worthy effort and well organised and performed lesson, but dude for us right handers it's really 'Odd'. Even so Well done and thank you.
What do I do if my hands are too small to play the Csus2?

I can’t strum itttt!
I bet u can now
What tuning is this?
Standard.
