According to Titleist, 70% of tour players use cavity backs while 30% use blades. So why do so many amateurs feel like they must use blades? Makes zero sense.
ego. lots of golfers are old insecure men. i’m new to the game and have no shame in using game improvement clubs since my game is still improving and im already hitting more consistently and further than men who have been playing for years
Sponsors and modern mentality! Cavity backs have great distance, but modern muscle backs aren’t that difficult to use. I own sets of Titleist 712 MBs and AP3’s with the same shafts. It will take me a couple of holes when switching to the MBs but I quickly am reminded to slow down and strike that ball. My blade 6 iron is my 7 iron cavity back in reality; cavity backs are made with stronger lofts to give players the illusion they are longer! I will admit when facing the a par 3 over the lake and hitting a 5 iron blade can bring horrible swing thoughts! Then again those thoughts invade me too when using a cavity back! So I’ll use a hybrid in that case! Striking a blade well is the best feeling!
I disagree, the worst thing I ever did for my game was buy some ping G5 irons. Too forgiving, I never learned how to fade, draw, or even hit the ball. No feeling at all. I upgraded to Cleveland CG4 tour, made me play better. I now play mp-33. Yes, give the beginner cavity backs, but it is going to be a long journey
I'm sorry but much of what you're saying is just not correct. You're repeating conventional wisdoms that are not accurate. You need to do real testing with a launch monitor so you can see what these clubs actually do. I play blades and I have never had my hands stung with even the worst of mishits. There are many tests of these kinds of clubs and blades are more consistent in every way than cavity backs or even game improvement irons even with mis hits. You could easily argue that blades are MORE forgiving than game improvement irons. There is also very little difference in peak height between clubs with the same lofts. Of course a 34 degree blade is shorter than a 28 degree game improvement 7 iron but if you match the lofts there is little if any difference in height or distance. There is also little or no difference in workability between these clubs.
If you fail to hit the ball well, all the forgiveness in the world won’t help your swing. Blade irons improve your ball striking. Cavity backs lack feedback for bad or great shots; it’s like having dead hands. The notion that you need to be a 7 index to play blades is ridiculous! Everyone has their preferences. A bad strike with a cavity back can easily send you a hundred yards into a hazard. There’s no ball movement! Being stuck in a tree line from a bad driver shot (from a forgiving driver!) and using a blade can help with a low fade shot around real trees! Why doesn’t anyone talk about this? Modern blades are fantastic!
See everyone in here saying oh my game is so much better with blades everyone needs to move to them. That’s just not true lol. Cavity backs are just better clubs. People who have blades just wanna look cool then slice the ball every other hit cause most people can’t hit blades at all. My cousin who almost went pro told me that blades are the biggest waste and only uses cavity backs. Mind you he is a +2 handicap which yes means in tournament play he adds two strokes to his total.
Everyone is different…play your large cavity back then! Who cares unless you have actually owned a set of modern blades then ignorance is bliss. Perhaps the 2 indexer needs the psychological assistance having a cavity back for extra confidence! Tiger Woods little boy hits blades and it’s for a reason! They will make him a better player!
please do not display low IQ here - no one said anything about the goal of the swing. the club assists in getting the ball AIRBORNE due to the way it was designed.

Clean shanked it 50 degrees to the right, straight across the practice green, over the bush and nearly killing an ex mens captain on the 10th fairway
J b bag lmao that was awsome!
According to Titleist, 70% of tour players use cavity backs while 30% use blades. So why do so many amateurs feel like they must use blades? Makes zero sense.
Because they are sexy. We like sexy things.
ego. lots of golfers are old insecure men. i’m new to the game and have no shame in using game improvement clubs since my game is still improving and im already hitting more consistently and further than men who have been playing for years
Sponsors and modern mentality!
So helpful
Thanks!
My ping i200 cavity back irons were more consistent front to back then any blades ive played.....
Combo set all the way
Blades are equipment for fine tuning.
U gotta be a good ball striker remember people don’t go crazy buying blades
I disagree, the worst thing I ever did for my game was buy some ping G5 irons. Too forgiving, I never learned how to fade, draw, or even hit the ball. No feeling at all. I upgraded to Cleveland CG4 tour, made me play better. I now play mp-33. Yes, give the beginner cavity backs, but it is going to be a long journey
That and if the look throws you off there’s now “cavity back” that look like blades

You’re a 19 handicap aren’t you
See everyone in here saying oh my game is so much better with blades everyone needs to move to them.
✊
Blades fly through the air better, ha, only kidding; I haven’t thrown a club ever; 😄
64% of the current pros on tour play with cavity backs! 🤔
Cavity backs look horrible blades look amazing
Jy's Afrikaans, neh? Could be wrong, though.
no
I've got soul but I'm not a soldier. :)
More pga players play cavity back than blades so Ive never understood why people act like they are really doing something with blades.
He says it helps you get under the ball and lift it. But that’s not the goal of the swing.
please do not display low IQ here - no one said anything about the goal of the swing. the club assists in getting the ball AIRBORNE due to the way it was designed.
@@golfsidekickextrasmate your comments are as funny as your content 😂😂
Should not have got blades smh
Your not a shot shaper??
Your are a 3 handicap
You have to be a shot shaper to play off 3
By what you are telling us you are a 18 handicapper
Only an idiot or a perennial 28 handicapper would say that. Every scratch golfer in the world will tell you that you play one shot shape. Retarred
@@golfsidekickextras dear oh dear keep on playing what you are playing and der
