I had Rockfort Rock blasted at the end of my wedding, inside the church. We own so much of our happiness to these geniouses. What would the world be without them, really
Praises due RAS!!!! I'm so glad you did this for the Skatalites. Without their influence there would be no Ska Scene!!!! I was blessed to see the band before Roland Alphonso left this world....Big ups brethren for this video
The world class talent in this group is incredible. Skatalites, then became Soul Brothers, then became Soul Vendors, then the Sound Dimension. "Legendary" and "influential" doesn't even begin to describe this crew. 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲✊🏿
Their live performances are one of the best moments in my life... First time seeing them being 19 years old, I could not belive I had the privilege 🤯 and I remember that show very vividly to this day (it was with Doreen!). Since then, they brought me tremendous joy on various occasions. Their sound brings me into state of almost a meditation, similar to roots music. 'Legendary' seems to bee too weak of a word for this musical phenomenon. Blesings & Love ❤💛💚
Great band! Legends. I've seen them live once in Amsterdam with just two of the original members. It was an impressive concert! After the concert I met them in the city when we were eating a meal and they asked us if it was good. We had a little chat. Great guys.
Thanks for the history lesson mainly accurate. I was previligrd to know some of the musicians you mentioned. My father was the head of the musicians union in jamaica at that time. One of the Skatallites Larry McDonald drums percussions is on my records.
Since the 80's I had seen them many times. And got to play at a couple of their shows. Their music will live on forever even know they went their separate ways. They all continued to record great records. Right now, Ska has become very popular again. I'm finding myself checking out these new traditional bands from all over the world. Great work as usual
While we acknowledge the great contribution the skatalites made to ska and jamaican music, credit must also be given to other pioneering bands. Byron Lee and the Dragonaires, Sonny Bradshaw 7, Carlos Malcom and the Afro Jamaican Rhythms and The Mighty Vikings are some that come to mind.🎶🇯🇲🎸
I find it fascinating that they looked like jazz big bands in the 60s, 2 decades late. Big band music was very popular in the 60s but was for the older people. What made them go with that look? I love it though.
❤💛💚🖤👏👏another outstanding video. Thank YOU for your works and sharing 😚" Jah Bless"
I have seen them perform live a number of times. Always a good time!

I had the rare opportunity to record with Roland in Manhattan NYC late '84 or early '85.
@HomebrewStew So stoked for you!!! To be able to work with an icon like Roland. Big ups to making history
The skatalites broke into so many groups and did so much music it's amazing

The Skatalites were the pioneers of Jamaican music, without them there's no Rocksteady, no Reggae and so on.
Give Thanks for consistent, loving offerings of history and culture. ❤💛💚🖤💃🏿
Thanks for sharing 👍🏼

Lesser bands.
@XWNLOX Byron Lee started before the skatalites, and they are still performing today. Lesser? 🤔
@@ragjamrock Byron Lee would indeed deserve its own episode! :)
Everyone should love reggae music 🙏🤓😉 ska n reggae I love the most
Very honoured to have seen them twice. First time inside a castle 😊
Wonderful ❤

Fascinating ❤️💛🖤
They lasted 3 generations of SKA music, Jamaica, England, and then The US.
My first recollection of the Skatalites was trumpeteer Don Drummond, drummer Lloyd Knibbs, and pianist Jackie Mittoo. All unshakeable Legends
Trumpeter Don Drummond? You’ll probably say Johnny Arkland Moore was the Trombonist 😂🤣😂🤣
Thanks! Well done and something reggae fans need to know
Thanks a lot! Much appreciated 👍
Remembering doing shows with Lord Tanamo
important piece of history right here!
super
Blessed
Dont forget Soul Bros
The immortal Don Drummond the greatest trombonist was the driving force behind the Skatalites
Lloyd Knibbs is drummer not bassist.@ 2:36
@@sabstraight Error noted 👍
