I would really love to buy a really old Strat but I can’t find any at an affordable price. I was wondering do you know anywhere I can get some vintage gear at a reasonable price. I love your content btw
Pop's Random Fun Channel i’ve had luck, but you gotta know what you are lookin at. Also reverb has buyer and seller protection, so you can return and/or be refunded if it’s a scam
Old guy here long time subscriber. I have been playing since 1983. Your speed and vibrato have improved in the last year especially the last 6 months. Keep it coming man
Keep your focus on your music. Social media is great and needed but make sure your focus is on writing, touring and recording and then vlogging. Love your channel.
Mark every fret with a black marker and run a big file down them slowly to level frets then crown them with crown file then emery cloth the frets and the wood for a good long time on the couch watching tv. Then set up guitar for string height. Lighting fast neck
I totally agree with you ,i used to put 6100 jumbo but now i use jescar 51100 and jescar 55090 ,and very important they are stainless steel ,so i don't have to worry about refrets for a long time👍🏻
Your technique is just flawless man, i always pick up my guitar and keep rewinding your videos to try and recreate what your doing..thanks for such informative stuff Brother...your awesome
You’ve got me hypnotized dude. Forewarning, I’ll be asking a good chunk of questions here. I guess to save you some trouble from me, so you have a AMA video about your gear? Not like what guitars and amps you have, but like all your pedals, and what strings you use, gauge and brand? I’ve got to be able to get close to your Vintage tone, I have too. Lol Oh! And you know what would be AWESOME, if you could state before or after your wonderful awesome noodling in your videos is what amp you’re using, the settings on the amp, and if you’re using any pedals you used, for that noodling session. Thanks dude!
It never ceases to amaze me how many great guitar players don't use their pinky. I had to wear a splint on my left had pinky for 12 weeks last summer (ripped my extensor tendon off the end joint) and it took another couple of months after that before I could use it to play. It was HORRIBLE. I eventually found ways to compensate for most things but many things were much harder. It was also mentally exhausting - I had to concentrate all the time to combat motor memory habits that were as natural as breathing to me.
Awesome. Glad to see the neck reunited with the '59, and hear your impressions of the 6105 frets. I'm going to be re-fretting my maple Strat neck, and considering going with either medium jumbos, or 6105 frets, just to get some more room to work, basically. The original frets on it have been leveled and crowned once, and I don't think there is enough left to do another, without leaving the frets lower than I like.
Just wanted let u know was just telling my friends about u I’ve never heard anyone one with a closer SRV tone then u and also never heard anyone else play this style more tastefully then u keep picking Man U got a bright future
Soylent Green dude he is young and I do here differences could u say u were this accomplished at this age sometimes giving credit were it’s do is ok critics yikes
@@soylentgreen9314 So you don't play yet you're giving someone else advice on how to play? Every single guitarist ever is a combination of their influences. You think SRV didn't play 100 licks out of the Hendrix/Albert King/Buddy Guy playbook every show? And I'm not saying that in a negative way. Every guitarist is going to have similarities to their influences. Take your advice somewhere where you actually know what you're talking about.
Soylent Green good luck trying to play music without copying anybody in any form. John Mayer put it best when he said “You find your own voice when you fail to be your heroes.”
@@soylentgreen9314 I've been playing the guitar for 20 years and can play quite well. I will say I did take your comment in the incorrect direction but every guitarist will sound a good bit like their influences if you pay close enough attention. There's no hate here it just rubbed me the wrong way when you said you didn't play the guitar and you were handing out advice on it. I do get your point I just think he is a little more rounded than a SRV copycat. But I'll go on being a "fool". Have a good one.
Idk about Matt..but I like to have mine slightly slanted outward at the bottom. On my strat I have the middle pu alot lower than the bridge and neck..i dont like mine to be super high or super low...i just sat and tinkered with mine along time ago,I probably spent an hr. & half on a Saturday doing that. I guess whatever sounds or feels good to you that's what's important! ✌
@@wesleyAlan9179 I used to set my as close to the strings as I wanted without sounding shrill with the polepieces flush with the covers but now with the recent pickups I installed a year ago the polepieces protrude 1/32" above so there's an eighth-inch clearance that suits my 1st Strat beautifully I'm still tinkering and experimenting with the other two.
I know this wouldn't interest you due to wanting to maintain vintage appearance, but I have started putting Jescar Evo Gold fw55090 on all mine now. Always used 6105 but I started to want to maintain that 'new guitar' perfect setup longer. I hate the way with nickel silver its great for a few months, then slowly gets more and more awkward. That whole slow degradation thing annoys me, especially when you are using taller frets and want to play aggressively but without a death grip. The Evo wire is 2/3rds as hard as stainless, but isn't nearly as hard on the tools. So far, I have had zero wear on my longest running axe (approx 2 years daily playing). Huge difference for me! It definitely helped me improve my playing!
@@MatthewScottmusic Its really good stuff. Just doesn't wear (depending on you chemistry etc. I'm the guy who can get 6 months out of a set of 10s lol). I also want to recommend you check out FW47104 which is the 'vintage' size wire. That makes for the best playing 7.25" strat imho but only if you set the neck dead straight and run the action around 0.022" at the nut and 0.050" at the 8th fret. I'll deck the trem with 4 springs with the low E offset quite a bit. I also run those with more or less flat tops ie. no real crown. Its like playing a fretless instrument. Absolute BUTTER all the way up the neck (especially with maple) and bending is just not an issue.
The thought of working on a classic guitar from 1959 by myself makes me shudder. Matt has balls of steel! Personally, I would have left the 'newer' neck on the guitar..just out of fear...and taken the original neck to a pro. But then again, all techs have are faced with doing their first 'big' job at some point in their career. I give him respect for doing the work himself.
Nice job with the refret. Bold call doing that yourself on vintage neck. Wow. Glad you're enjoying the 6105 fretwire. I've never liked jumbo frets at all. Personally, I feel like they get in the way (obviously they didn't get in your way). I think 6105 is the def the way to go. And I think they look better, if that matters at all to you.

3rd comment! Rocking- and strengthening my opinion that 6105 will be the way to go on my 64 when the time comes
The crackling is a bad ground. Probably a cold solder joint somewhere. I’d try a new cord first
Eric Jenks might also be an issue from the tubes as they warm up, or a scratchy pot somewhere
its coming through the recording only
