- For the signal chain at the intro, I used a Kingtone Octaland into the 1959 Bassman and an Isle of Tone Luxe 66 Fuzz on the bass.

Man what a rad guitar! Those slashes out of the back are intense. Pretty sure the previous owner was wolverine. Amazing playing buddy.
*Keep signing zee papers Robert Baker.*
would love to see you guys jam !
Only marks on my old Strat are the result of being bit by a puppy! 😊
@@dhis888 Yea that would be neat .👍
I'm pretty sure the previous owner was a hand operated door opening device lol.
That neck pickup is THE Strat sound for me. Beautiful tone.
70s Strat headstocks, the bell-bottoms of the guitar world. ;-) Fantastic playing!
Best analogy I've heard in awhile *chefs kiss*😜👍
I love that!
True very cool looking large headstocks ... unlike most bell-bottoms ! lol
Love that anology. I hated those headstocks when I first started playing but love them now.
That tone in the intro was incredible
Yep!
Man, that strat with the '59 Bassman was like something you'd hear on so many recordings in the day. Superb.
I dig those real vibey 70s strats. They look like they need to be played in front of thousands of people. Good job as always.
Maybe someday they will again 😎
I Love My 74 stratocaster, Sounds like no other
I had an amazing 73 Strat. I miss that guitar dearly. It was a Daphne blue nitro refin with maple fretboard. Just an incredible player. It changed a lot of people’s minds about 70’s Stratocasters. I admit it was hands down the best one I’ve played so maybe it was a 1/1000 guitar. But they do exsist. Mine was a tremolo guitar but wasn’t heavy at all.
Man that sounds like a good one. They exist!
So good to see a 70's Strat getting some love. There are decent ones out there! My '73 weighs 7.10lb (with trem) and is an outstandingly good guitar. Sounds and plays amazing. And yes, more content on dating this please and thoughts on 59 / 70's Strat would be much appreciated. Great work!
Wow that's extremely light for a trem strat of any year!
@AJ XOXO It's simply nostalgia. I'm sure there are some excellent specimens from the 50s, 60s and 70s, however, today's guitars are made with much better precision. The independent pickup manufacturers also turn out a much more consistent product. Any good luthier will be able to cut a nut properly as well as level and crown frets to perfection.
There's a lot more to it than that, Joe. And I am not into the superstition like many are.
@@joesmith8398 Not sure what it is but take it from someone who has owned 50 strats over the years and currently have a dozen or so. They can all be set up tp play and sound great but once in a while there is that "one" that just plays and sounds noticeably better then others and for me it has been a few 70's Strats. Wish I could figure out exactly why.
Not to mention I own and have owned many other guitars besides Strats old and new but being I am discussing the best playing and sounding it simply has been a few 70's Strats in my experience as a pro player and collector..
Hey Matthew, i just want to say thank you. The last year have been tough (for all im sure) but you, tom bukovac, Tim pierce and that pedal show have just inspired me a lot. Keep being you, keep playing and again, thank you for making things better. :) lots of love from Denmark :-)
Thank you Thomas, that means very much!
Definitely a keeper! I'm glad YOU found that one!
The "With Syncronised Tremolo" decal was discontinued alltogether during 1971. All guitars thereafter had the same headstock decal, irrespective of bridge style.
8:21 that little "Riviera Paradise" Thanks.
70s Strats are killer, the best sounding Strats ever. The ones where the neck doesn't wobble around of course :)
Yes Matthew, you did indeed do it justice.
Love the wear and tear, please authenticate this instrument.
Peace
I think I will! Thank you! ✌🏻
+1 for the authentication video. That Super tone is divine!
First of all: Thanks a bunch fo the video!! I've been waiting for that one since you posted a pic of that Strat on your social media. And yes, please do an authentication video! That 70's Strat content is exactly what I love.
Btw my '77 OW hardtail weighs 6lbs 13oz (probably the lightest Strat I've ever played) and I've had other relatively light 70's Strats. So, there are definitely more out there that don't break your back as easily as the infamous "boats".
Thats incredibly light! Congrats on that one ✌🏻👍🏻
You are developing a really good touch on the instrument Matthew, the playing tone and vibrato was beautiful… Thank you.
That means very much to me. Thank you.
Well, so much for the people that say 70s strats aren't worth a crap. That thing rocks! Kudos to you on your playing, brother...you really do excel on getting the most out of a guitar
_Yngwie and Richie have entered the chat…_
@@j_freed not talking about the ones who made them great...talking about the snob collectors that snub their noses at them. Ritchey happens to be my favorite guitarist, and Yngwie is a legend.
There are some great ones out there!
Its cool seeing the olympic white under the lacquer
That thing is awesome. And so is the playing as usual.
Awesome man, incredible guitar, surely someone will recognize it and the story may come to light.. but yes always love when you tear them down to check out the details inside.
Stellar playing and a fine guitar, indeed. And give that fantastic '59 Bassman a lot of credit, too. Living up to its reputation here.
One of the many that "got away". Had a chance to get a white HT strat for $200 back in the '70's.
i will watch any strat vids you put up, i especially love 70s strats. i love my ‘74.
I love 70s Strats! I’ve wanted one ever since I saw Billy Corgan’s blue one and his Gish guitar.
I love the Gish strat with the Ghost on it.Was that the one he put up for auction at a million bucks???lmao cool but ain't that cool...he has a cool Billy corgan strat that's blue with white stars all over it you can get that's Badass...later,have a good one.
Ya. Love to see a full review on this guitar. Really like to see those date codes. Love your videos. Keep up the good work!🤟🖖👍👍👍
Thanks Darlene!🤘🏻
Well that blows the myth that 70's guitars aren't cool right out the water.
That's a beauty you've got there Mathew.
I don’t think I would ever be able to put that thing down if I had her.. That’s what it’s all about right there … A strat thru a 64 reverb .. you DID do it justice , man… You’ve got a gift my friend… 🍻
Thanks, hope the day will come that we can see content from you more often.
I have a 70s p bass that has gone yellow,I have and do love it,had it for 34 years, still going strong.great video matt.from an English man in Poland.
Great video, great playing as always. Once again this shows that even these 70s Fenders can be sleepers and great players, somebody must have really loved it, played the heck out of it. Imagine where it’s been and what’s been played on it…
Been waiting for this video ever since you posted pics of the guitar on your Instagram and was not disappointed, things got some vibe to it!
Wooah. That thing sounds awesome.
Great video as always Matt.
Very cool
Matt your blues kicks are on point. By far one of the best improv blues players on RUclips.
Sweet ride. Great playing and another amazing find. Keep it up, Brother.
authentication video for the win! especially with the hardtail one!
I’m a fifty year guitar picker and you are an awesome player
That front pick up thru the Bassman sounds insane ..Thanks for putting it up
Great to see another video, and watch your playing . Dig it .
Thanks Matt, I look forward to each vid. Keep doing what you do.
Take it apart and show us under the hood.
God that strat with the super reverb is glorious. Great playing as always.
Yes PLEASE do a year authentication vid. Us Strat aficionados can never get enough of that and I am an early 70's fanatic.
I love your vintage-guitar-videos, you always find something special & you’re keeping it fresh! :)
I recently bought a (more or less) vintage guitar myself, a 1994 jaguar from japan. It‘s awesome to get to know the instrument and its story.
Open it Up !!!
So beautiful! I love this channel and the way you play really brings the soul of those guitars out.
It's an absolute pleasure to hear someone your age play as well as you do with the feel and sound of somebody much older
I love 70’s Strats.
Great sounding Strat, the neck pickup is particularly sweet. When you turned it over I was quite surprised with all of the katana carvings, what a belt buckle that guy had😁. Great intro, that bass tone is awesome and ballsy. Thanks man for the vid.
Oh dude!!! The entrance of the video just made my day. Hell yes...
Peace✌
What a great sound. Well done Matt. Let's see what is inside.
thanks Richard!
Flawless!!!! Yessss, another visit with this guitar, Applause!!!!!!
Beautiful guitar and incredible playing. Thanks for a wonderful video.
70’s guitars for the win! My Norlin LP Deluxe is an incredible instrument. I feel dirty for liking three-bolt necks and fretless wonders but…I just do! Nice one, bud!
Yea the 70’s are the real golden era of fender and Gibson guitars and the prices are still quiet low unlike the late 60’s cbs era
With you all the way. My ‘77 Deluxe is the last guitar I will ever own 👍
The coolness of a GOOD 70s guitar will never die…
And some were really good. It’s not just hype. Just because something was made pre-1970, or came from the custom shop, that doesn’t mean it’s not a turd. There were just some really bad cost-cutting decisions made that can make or break a particular guitar, that’s a fact.
@@j_freed I can agree with that entirely. I think that the bad ones overshadowed the good work that was making it out there to the world. Probably overshadowed some of the innovations that were valuable as well. The 70’s was a learning experience for sure. But at this point, if a 70’s guitar is still playable, it’s one of the good ones. The turds are all in the landfill I think 😂
@@Sean_Plays_Guitar cool! And maybe the best vintage guitars nearly always look played in… if they look far too Mint, it’s likely that nobody loved them for 50 or so years. Shiny collectible turds with the original case candy…
Of course, it's a string-through hardtail. What a beauitiful guitar and beautiful sound.
Worth a deep dive for sure !!!
Thanks for the content Matthew. Keep them coming for sure. Also I would be interested in seeing an authentication video. Always like seeing the guts to beautiful guitars
Thank you Bruce! 🤘🏻
great video ! would Love to see you take apart that strat and look what's INSIDE!
Walter Trout will be after you for that guitar. He just loves early 70's hardtails. I have a 74 hardtail myself which I bought brand new. I just remembered that one difference between 73 and 74 Fenders is that Fender went to black pickguards in 74.
Yes, please post a video of the insides. 70's Strats are my favorites. Especially in Olympic White.
I love our authentication videos, would love to see you dive into this beauty!
Dude, your playing is just great, i would listen to an entire ep on just an instrumental of you playing
I've been painting guitars using a similar color from Duplicolor. This gives me an idea to paint white underneath, and wet sand/distress the yellow. Awesome playing as usual man!
Man u can hear how good it sounds on that opening bend, love the snap those hardtails put on the note
Its a beauty! Please make an in depth video about it
Yes yes yes!! Do the authenticating video, those are super cool. I’m a huge hardtail fan, I’d love to know more about this guitar
could listen to your playing all day , so much depth thanks
I can feel the volume in that room. So good!
Matthew - once again, great playing and feel. Your vibrato is stellar. Another interesting video - that 70's Strat sounds great(in your hands, not mine). I'd love to see an authetication video, in the future. Reaaly love your playing and videos - thanks!
Matt, sooo sooo thankful for these videos. Last month or so has been a living hell here in California because of fire. These videos are such a great escape.
Thank Matt....
That's one sweet sounding ride !!
Love the bigger headstock, sweet guitar!! Always entertaining! Thanks!
Wow. This sounds SO GOOD ✨✨✨
The tone of that guitar through that Bassman is butter.
Dude I could listen to you play like that all day 👏
You reminded me why i love fenders so much, thanks!
Cool, I have a 1974 that looks just like it, hardtail and all. It is a great guitar. Mine weighs about 7 lbs or less. Great playing as always!
It would be so funny if somebody routed one of these for a tremolo, and maybe put a Wilkinson or something on it… But I bet the tone would be bad ass.
Think your videos are awesome I’ve been watching you for a while you are one of the best guitarist I’ve ever seen and thank you for all your videos on all your classic old guitars redoing guitars old amps and everything else that you do 🤘🇺🇸☘️
Take it apart but also do a before-and-after wax potting of the pickups to show how it ends the squeal. It worked great for me on a few guitars. No, it does not reduce the good type of "feedback" which come thru strings and not the pickup windings.
That might be a cool video to wax pot the pickups!
In about a month or so, I’m going to be purchasing an early 70s Matsumoku era Greco strat and I’m getting SUPER excited about it. Every video that I’ve seen about those kind of guitars has made me giddy with anticipation to own one for myself. It would be so cool if you could make a video about those wonderful 70s Greco strats.
Man that guitar and the bassman with your playing is fantastic
If anyone making YT videos could do this guitar justice it's you. That neck pup and Bassman, just killer!! Thanks for the demo.
Man I love this channel never disappoints
It sounds amazing. And definitely wins the mojo contest. The sticker’s a natural fit. Like it was meant to be.
I have a 1974 hardtail Strat, as well. It's as light as a feather, sounds great and has very stable tuning. I just picked up a period correct case for it a few days ago.
Loved my 75 Strat...lots of folks don't care foe them much but not me! I LOVED mine! Nice axe Matt!
Would love a video of you opening it up and showing us the guts. Beautiful strat, great playing, immense tone as always.
That is the best Strat sound I have ever heard. It’s so warmer and full.
Incredible! Your an inspiration! Love the playing and the tones!
Very nice harmonious sound, Matthew. Peace!
Like most of Matthew’s videos, came for the guitar, stayed for the playing I would love to see the authentication video.
Fantastic playing in the demo!!
Such great tone (and playing)! You really bring out the best in every guitar I’ve heard you play, keep ‘em coming!
GREAT SCOTT MATT!!! ALWAYS SWEEEEET PLAYING!!!
Geez dude, with that ‘64 I could have listened to you and that guitar for hours. I love that guitar. It’s crazy how great you are at playing.
You showcased that beauty beautifully!
Absolutely stunning bro!
Definitely interested in an in depth authentication video. Love your channel dude and your genuine enthusiasm for these cool old guitars!
great sounds and really cool playing!!!!!!!..... thanks.
