Hi everyone, I hoped you enjoyed this casual video chatting about patterns, fabric, and sewing plans! What have you been sewing recently? Let me know in the comments below! 😊
Thanks for sharing all your finds! Your videos are so beautiful with the lovely lighting and the closeups of your fabrics and patterns. So well made! I love the floral fabric and also the linen stripe, will be interesting to see what you make with them in the end. I’ve just finished a dress that I will wear at my daughters wedding tomorrow. It’s a simple A-line shift dress style but I’ve added ruffels on the sleeves and hem to make it more special. The fabric is a high quality viscose in a 60th inspired floral pattern in orange and peach, so gorgeous! Today I’m making a little purse to go with it ☺️ Looking forward to your next video Mel!
Thank you so much for your kind comment! The dress you made sounds so beautiful, I've seen lots of great summer dresses with ruffles this year! I will have updates on those projects very soon! 😊
Sew happy for your determination in creating a wardrobe of your dreams. I like your fabric choices, especially the pink plaid and the floral!!!..I have a cup and saucer in the violet pattern identical to yours!
I like all you fabrics. However, I especially like the floral print and I’m looking forward to your makes. Your sewing channel is so well thought out and expressed. I think you’re a great young lady and you make me smile. Happy sewing.
Thanks for sharing that etsy shop with the vintage fabric! I'd been looking at Robert Kaufmann homespuns for a project but these vintage options might be even better.
Thanks Wendy! Its definitely an important consideration, but I want to try the cotton and see how it works, as I really dislike the feeling of slippery fabrics against my skin! Crossing my fingers that it all works out 😊
cant wait to see the blazer, love the pink check...i agree with comment below, you may need a slippery fabric...i have 3 metres of pink (vintage with edge flaw) you are welcome to...tfs:)
Thank you so much for your comment and for watching! The blazer is done, I can't wait to show you in a video soon! 😊 I'll update everyone on how the cotton lining went (pros and cons!)
The bamboo rib knit looks so nice! I’m yet to find a rib knit fabric I’m really happy with, here in Australia. The Melco Fabrics cotton rib is good quality but I’d like a bigger rib and more colours!
I agree, it is really hard to find the perfect rib knit! I love the bamboo one, but I guess shipping to Australia may be expensive! I hope you find what you are looking for 😊
Everything looks so beautiful! I love Blackbird Fabrics and the floral and striped linen fabrics are gorgeous. I'm currently wrapping up a Helens Closet Reynolds dress and then am going to work on an all-white embroidered cotton skirt and top set. Excited to see your makes!
I'm very new to sewing, so I've been watching a lot of sewing videos, and yours came up on my recommendation list. I was so tickled when I started watching and saw your machine. I was recently given an old Kenmore, which is part of what prompted me to start sewing. Mine looks quite similar to yours. 😊
Aw I love to hear that! The vintage Kenmores are great machines, I can't say enough good things! I hope you enjoy your sewing journey with your trusty Kenmore 😊
if a stranger's opinion can help narrow down your choices, that navy floral is perfect for the reeta dress or the vintage simplicity. They're so good, I couldn't even remember what the other two looked like after I saw them.
The red and white plaid. Score! The Simplicity 5401: I'm going to find that pattern, it's just what I've been looking for! I tried on a midi length, button up, princess seam dress almost identical to this pattern and loved how it felt and looked on. At $400 it was asking to be recreated at home, but I hadn't been able to find a pattern with that notched collar with a partial stand. The way the collar laid open made all the difference. The pretty floral print: if it helps, how about this good old rule of thumb. To keep a garment looking modern, counterbalance the romantic feature with a purely modern one. For example, if the fabric is lace or a romantic print, use an architectural or utilitarian cut. Or, if using a pattern with romantic features like puffy sleeves and ruffles, make it in an austere solid fabric, like sage green linen. Butterick wrap pattern: any time you find a basics pattern that has seams, darts, and sleeves that fit perfectly, it's a jackpot. You can hack it into dozens of completely different dresses over the years, and what a timesaver and confidence booster that you know they'll fit well.
Thanks for watching! I hope you can find the Simplicity 5401 - I agree it is a special pattern and very unique with the notched collar detail! Great tips about how to balance modern and romantic features in a garment - this is something I have been trying to be more mindful of recently, as in the past I've been unhappy with the outcomes if I didn't consider this. And yes I agree about the Butterick wrap dress pattern - it is so well-drafted and fits me perfectly! The options for customizing it are endless! Thanks for taking the time to comment 😊
All your fabric choices are wonderful. I’m on my third attempt at making a McCalls top. I love every about it, but I’ve chosen the wrong fabrics for it, so donated them. I plan on giving it one more try before I fold. Love , love your fabrics and lookin forward to seeing your makes.
I love the red checked fabric and am looking forward to the new Zadie jumpsuit. I know just what you mean about using dainty China for a cup of tea, it is worth it! Why have a cup of tea when you have an experience?
hello very nice young lady yes I understand that all sewing machines are different but please kindly film how you thread your own sewing machine and how you wind the bobbin please ok?thank you very much and have a beautiful day 😊
You are brave to make your first blazer with a striped fabric. I would start with an easier fabric. Also the fabric may not be wide enough for your back pattern piece or the sleeve piece.
Hi everyone, I hoped you enjoyed this casual video chatting about patterns, fabric, and sewing plans! What have you been sewing recently? Let me know in the comments below! 😊
I love John Kloss. I have that butterick pattern. I made it in my 20s. I’m in my 60s. Those were the days!
Glad to know you like that pattern, I'm excited to try it out soon! Thanks for watching 😊
I love the navy fabric with the flowers. Would make a lovely dress.
Thanks, it is one of my fave recent fabric finds! Excited to share the process of making it into something! ☀️

I've been wanting to buy the Gilbert top pattern from Helen's closet. I think you just sold me on it! Yay camp 🏕 lol
I haven't made it yet but I know it is very well loved! Hope you have good luck with it!

Thank you so much! I agree, those are the fabrics I am most excited about too! So fun that you have the same teacup! ☕ Thanks for watching! 😊

Thank you so much for such a nice comment! I am so excited to get started on a dress with that floral fabric soon! 😊
Huge fabric guy so this is great
#1 all-time fabric fan, and spice fan^^^
Thanks for sharing that etsy shop with the vintage fabric! I'd been looking at Robert Kaufmann homespuns for a project but these vintage options might be even better.
So glad you found it helpful! 😊
You should consider a slippery lining fabric for the blazer, or you could have trouble putting your arms in and out.
Thanks Wendy! Its definitely an important consideration, but I want to try the cotton and see how it works, as I really dislike the feeling of slippery fabrics against my skin! Crossing my fingers that it all works out 😊

I need some blazers in my wardrobe 😍
Yes, blazers are the best! They are so versatile and always look so polished 🤩
I had a blazer just like that one with the large shoulders in the mid-eighties. The big, oversized jackets were were really big, with shoulder pads.
I believe it! I am a bit afraid of shoulder pads in my blazers, so I may remove them from the blazer I thrifted, haha! Thanks for watching 😊
I had the most oversized shoulder pads in the 80s . I cringe when I look at photos now. 😊
@@annethomson4920 the 80s definitely had some cringe worthy fashion moments 😂
Just found your channel and love your vibe!
Thank you so much! Happy to have you here! 😊

Thank you! Ooh those sounds like perfect summer projects! I know a lot of people love the Reynolds dress pattern. Have fun working on your cotton set!

I love your bold fabric choices! Can't wait to see everything you make 😊
Thank you! I will make sure to wear it the next time I'm over 💖

That does really help, thank you so much! Those are the two options I was most excited about too! 😊

I laugh when I hear that the 90s are vintage. I was in my 30s.
Haha I get that, for sure! 😆
😂 I was a 90s teen, sooo, apparently I'm vintage too.
My only child was born in 1996; I was 41.

I find matching fabric to pattern is one of the hardest parts of sewing! I hope this time you get the result you've been wanting!
I love the red checked fabric and am looking forward to the new Zadie jumpsuit. I know just what you mean about using dainty China for a cup of tea, it is worth it! Why have a cup of tea when you have an experience?
Yes, the dainty China makes it an experience! Thanks for your comment and for watching!
