Really great intro to the arp features. I was sitting in front of my new Key 61 thinking - how do I get the arps - searched Google and landed on your video. Minutes later I've got my whole Synthwave bass line laid out easy peasy. Thank you!
My MPC Key 61 just arrived today and I feel like I actually know what I'm doing since I've just been watching your videos while waiting for it. Thanks so much and keep up the awesome work!
Hi Douglas, Great video as always, very informative and well presented. My question is, what kind of sustain pedal are you using? I can't seem to get one to work. In addition, it would be really nice to be able to initiate the transport section (record, overdub, play, etc.) by a foot pedal, but I can't seem to get that to work either... Any thoughts here?
I need to compare it to Yamaha's arpeggiator as that thing is fantastic. I think I need to play one. I want a new master keyboard with aftertouch, my MoxF6 doesn't have AT, and this looks like it will kill a lot of birds with one stone including a great master, lots of effects and sounds and drum pads too. Very interesting product.
I haven’t figured out how to perform on this thing with keyboard split where one track is being arpeggiated and the other is not. Even my old Yamaha MO6 could do that.
I have a question concerning the arpeggiator enable function. I’d like to save the arp enabled in one sequence or alternatively a track. But in another track of a project it should be disabled. Can I only enable the arp per song? Or alternatively press the arp button?
The ARP is cool but have you used the autosampler yet? If you have external gear the autosampler can put most of those sounds in the stand alone MPC unit as a keygroup. You can create these keygroups via the autosampler with minimal samples and wide strides to take up less room or more samples and less strides which takes longer but ends up better sounding. You just need a midi cable and audio cable from external gear to your MPC hardware. Go into the MPC sampler. Turn monitoring on. Hit the keyboard icon at the top to go into autosampler settings. The more layers (up to 4) and *less* strides (default is 6) the more accurate & better sounding. Hit "Do It". The more layers/less strides the longer the process takes.
I would like to know that, too. On my Yamaha Modx it is very tedious. Either record it in real-time into a sequence or pattern and then use it for arpeggiaton, or use midi files from a pc via file transfer. Or, you have to scroll through a few thousand, mostly needless pre-made Arpeggios. I watched this video in hope to find a usable alternative, but of/c, I didn't find it.
Sunday Keys also has arpeggiated sounds too as well as sequences on the template but i don’t know if the mpc key 61 can do sequences like sunday keys can
Something must be wrong with me as I am just not gelling with the MPC 61. I am really missing my MPC X that I sold, and last night just bought a new one. As a keyboard the 61 is ok, and has some good sounds (way too plastered with effects). I do a lot of vocals and for some reason they don't sound nearly as good with same mic recording in the 61 compared to the X. I hate the pad placement as most people are right handed and there is plenty of room on right side of keyboard. The screen looks good, but not being able to tilt is an absolute dealbreaker and would not have cost much more to do. Lastly, to mix standalone is a pain compared to the X. The reduction in Q links and one to one buttons, as well as a big tiltable screen, just leave me not inspired beyond just writing some keyboard based parts and limited drum programming. The only area I think the 61 has the X is RAM, but honestly when I use the X with computer that limitation is gone, and since the X is big having it connected to computer is fine especially as I don't even need to look at the computer screen at all. Not hating on the 61, but just saying I would take an X in the studio any day (works perfect with any controller), and an MPC One or Live 2 for portable use. Just my .02 - Anyone looking for one mine is for sale on Reverb.

Nice demo of the Arp options. Excited to put it to use on the X
Hi Douglas, nice video. Is there an option to make your own arps?
This keyboard is a powerful instrument and buying one is a great investment as this is like a recording studio and you can use it for gigs
That thumb pattern stuff is actually pretty cool
Can the keyboard be split so the arp is on the left and normal notes on the right?
I haven’t figured out how to perform on this thing with keyboard split where one track is being arpeggiated and the other is not. Even my old Yamaha MO6 could do that.

Is this the same on the key37?

so if i have a bassline thait is a pattern can i SPLIT that between the bass and a pad sound when playing a arp sequence?
Any way to program your own custom arp pattern?

Great video!
I do have a question not pertaining to the video...
What's a good keyboard amplifier for live gigs? (Specifically for the Nord Stage 3)
Awesome 🎹🎼😎🦅

Here's something I haven't seen people talking about. The arpeggiator can arpeggiate drum samples on the Key 61! Huge miss on the previous MPC's!!
In how many tracks you can use the arpeggiator?
I'm waiting on mine ... but hazarding a guess, you would just record and self-sample that arp and move onto another track/sound. Rinse and repeat.
I've been playing around trying to find the right sound on my Akai mpc key 61 that the song "Drive" by The Cars starts out with
Any suggestions how ?
do you know how to set arp key range ?
Just to give you a heads up I thought you didn’t have a shirt on. Until I took a double take. lol
Hi. Can I create my own pattern?
Nice! Now to brush off the plastic money card.

Weird latent load times, MPC 61 is useless
