I was 7 years old when the 2011 muppets film came out and I hyper-fixated on it for like a year afterward. I was out here playing muppets with my monster high dolls. Cleo de Nile was Ms. Piggy.

I was a junior in HIGH SCHOOL. I went to the theater to see Cars 2, a horrible HORRIBLE movie…and the preview for this movie played before it, and I had the biggest smile on my face the whole time. It was a big deal for me because I was a huge fan of The Muppets on the inside. This was the movie that brought me back to the franchise full time

I've always felt that the 2015 series The Muppets was unfairly maligned. That series was doing all the stuff that Frank Oz complained the Muppets had lost, and for some reason a lot of Muppet fans complained about that. The show had conflict, character flaws, interesting arcs, and a fun spin on the classic Muppet show format. After Muppets 2011, I was thrilled to get such a great follow up project, and super bummed when it flopped. To me, it was the combination of the mediocre returns on most wanted, and the baffling fan backlash for The Muppets 2015 that prompted Disney to reverse course on that direction with the Muppets and return to the more saccharine, bland take on the Muppets they'd been peddling prior to Muppets 2011.

    • @icecreamhero2375
      @icecreamhero2375 2 года назад +1

I disagree it sucked. I already thought the office was just ok and the original muppet show is way funnier. I guess I like absurd physical humor. This show was awful. It felt like the Muppets with the life sucked out of it. I think the muppets felt out of character sometimes. For example, Scooter distracting Elizabeth Banks because Kermit told him to. That's in character I can see him doing that. Scooter picking a fight with Elizabeth Banks. That felt very out of character.

    • @icecreamhero2375

"prompted Disney to reverse course on that direction with the Muppets and return to the more saccharine, bland take on the Muppets they'd been peddling prior to Muppets 2011." Something doesn't have to be all or nothing. I wouldn't particularly call the original Muppet show edgy. It was just a laugh riot. Oz's complaints. He wished the Mupeteres got more creative control and more input on the scripts. Sounds fair. He thinks the muppets are out of character in the later ones. I genuinely don't see that. Kermit is still the overwhelmed boss, he is nice and could be a little sarcastic sometimes, Ms. Piggy is still a diva with an on-again off again relationship with Kermit, Fozzy still tells horrendous puns and is a sympathetic character. Gonzo is still off his rocker, Scooter is still an annoying kissa** who is always eager to help,. It still has really bad puns, mixed with slapstick, and good jokes. It still has songs and cameos. What's missing?

    • @GeoffreyToday
      @GeoffreyToday 2 года назад

@@icecreamhero2375 don't think I ever said the Muppet show was "edgy". Clearly you didn't care for The Muppets 2015, you're not alone. I disagree. I've never watched The Office, so I can't compare the two, though I'm aware they share a similar documentary format. I'm sorry it wasn't for you.

You forgot the true musical masterpiece of the film: Camilla the Chicken's cover of Forget You. The crowd in the movie theater loved it.
This was the last movie I saw in the theater with my parents and sister; we had both graduated college and moved out by then, but somehow we all wound up going to see this movie Black Friday or Saturday. We all loved it. My father has since passed away, so it's going to retain this distinction, but, you know, it's not the worst movie for a family outing, even if the "kids" were in their mid to late 20's.

My family has almost always had a very heavy emotional connection to the Muppets, especially my mom's side of the family. My great aunt was cremated with her childhood Kermit puppet. She had seen every movie, had seen almost every episode of the Original show, The Muppets had been with her almost every day of her life. When I was 5 years old, I was introduced to The Muppets properly with this movie. Since I was 5, I did not know that this amazing franchise had been around for a lot longer than me. I also, just like my Great Aunt, quickly grew attached to the characters, Gonzo and Fozzie especially. I feel like I am part of the new generation of Muppet lovers.

  • @millerhxc

Although I agree with the connection you make to the first Muppet Movie and how they gather together to put on a show, but there's also a strong similarity to the It's A Very Merry Muppet Christmas movie, with the threat of the theatre being bought out to be turned into something else and the muppets needing to raise money.

First and most importantly, so glad this film brought you into the world of Muppet fandom. This was a great video and I even learned a couple of things. I did wanna just point out there isn’t any CGI in the film. There are special effects, but all the Muppets on screen are practical Muppets. Minor nitpick to be sure. Zooming back out, glad to know there are a bunch of Walter level fans out there that more than half my age. The fandom is in good hands.

    [Verse 1: Gary]
    I reflect on my reflection
And I ask myself the question
What's the right direction to go?
    I don't know
    [Chorus: Gary, Muppet Gary]
Am I a man or am I Muppet?
    (Am I a Muppet?)
If I'm a Muppet, then I'm a very manly Muppet
    (Very manly Muppet)
    Am I a Muppet...
    (...Muppet)
    Or am I a man?
    (Am I a man?)
If I'm a man, that makes me a Muppet of a man
    (A Muppet of a man)
    [Verse 2: Walter]
    I look into these eyes
    And I don't recognize
    The one I see inside
It's time for me to decide
    [Chorus: Walter, Human Walter]
Am I a man or am I Muppet?
    (Am I a Muppet?)

    (A Muppet of a man)
[Bridge: Gary and Walter, Muppet Gary, Human Walter]
    Here I go again
I'm always running out of time
I think I made up my mind
Now I understand who I am
    I'm a man!
    I'm a Muppet!
    I'm a Muppet of a man!
    I'm a very manly Muppet!
    I'm a Muppety man!

The more I think about it, the more impressed I am with Mary's character. At the beginning of the film, you almost think she's gonna be this attention-seeking girlfriend stereotype who's only goal is to sabotage Walter and Gary's relationship. However, that's obviously not the case. In fact, she actively works to help Walter in his goal to save the Muppets and their studio. (And honestly, they couldn't have done it without her; this woman is capable as hell). Additionally, her need for attention from Gary was never portrayed as a bad thing, as it often is in misogynistic media. She was putting a lot of commitment and effort into her relationship with Gary, so naturally, she would want him to be a little more attentive. I'm so glad the movie made Gary realize this... honestly the conflict resolution of this movie (aside from the cop-out ending) was pretty phenomenal.

So I grew up with the muppets, with some of my oldest memories being watching The Muppet Movie in my dad’s room, and seeing a Spanish version of Muppets treasure Island on some Mexican TV channel, so my first time watching The Muppets I was a little disappointed (mostly because rowlf had barley any lines). But now I’ve grown to appreciate it because, like you said I think it did a good job bringing in old and new muppets fans to the franchise. I think I really only hated this movie as I grown up because. Well the mindset “muppets good , disney bad” is really easy for me to fall into. Also I would like to see the characters interact more in the future because I feel like with the muppets it was centered around kermit, piggy and fozzie instead of showing all of them causing mayhem like I want chaos lol.

I was 11 when this movie came out and it was the first movie I ever saw in the theater without my parents. I grew up with The Muppets because for the most part modern media was off limits for a large portion of my life because my dad would watch stuff with me and decide it was "completely inappropriate", but the things my parents grew up and golden era Hollywood movies were fair game. It was really exciting to have more of my friends know what I was talking about without having to beg them to give one of the movies a chance, especially since for a while a lot of them were "too old for puppets". It was also really nice as a kid with undiagnosed neurodivergencies to have the first movie I ever went to completely by myself be one of my biggest special interests since I was little because I feel like without the amount of comfortable familiarity that was there I would have been too overwhelmed to enjoy it.

Have you ever noticed that when a creator of a show retires or dies in years later they try to bring back the show it’s never the same and it’s never good like it once was? I know that Frank Oz would agree with me when I say this but, when people remake a show and try to bring it back they are missing something very important that the original creator had, and that’s hart. These shows are missing a vital part of what the creator had intended all along and that’s warmth and caring and of course they should respect the audience.

21:00 I hate it. It feels out of character for Statler and Waldorf. I like we got better.

WOW It was planned to have Statler and Waldorf ..my absolute favourites to safe the Muppets ... Oh gosh what a missed Oportunity ... and yes the ending is rushed .. and i never liked the part that they actually barely made any Money

While the 2011 movie is good for reintroducing the Muppets, the biggest difference is the over-prominence of the human characters. Originally, Muppet movies correctly placed the emphasis and prime focus on the Muppets, with the humans as their foils. In the 2011 movie, the humans sing songs of their own, and sometimes sing to the Muppets. If a movie full of color puppet characters has humans taking the focus while the puppet watches....that's dumb. 🙄.
In the "Muppets Most Wanted", for instance, Tina Fey and a chorus of humans sing TO Kermit. He just watches. That's a waste of a Muppet.
