I went through 20 years of doubts. Very painful. The long dark night of the soul. When God broke through I never looked back . It is now bulletproof, tested in the fire . I continue studying the word , as I have now for nearly 40 years, I'm 75 now . It worked for me . Maybe other people's path is different. K

This is super interesting. I spent 10 years in new age/occult…I had left Christianity for this. The way you describe progressive Christianity is exactly what I learned in new age. I can’t believe this is even being called Christianity at all. I’m a born again christian now, and I’m seeing progressive ideas moving into churches and people everywhere. I want to be completely set apart from these ideas. Thank you for all of the work you do, Alisa.

Dear Alicia Childers, thank you for your analysis and your wonderful way of explaining truth and faith! Here in Europe we've sadly been in these trobles for 50 to 100 years by now. (Just think that National Socialism and Atheistic Communism came from Germany.) Also liberal bible dissolution and leftist faith deconstruction are also "Made in Germany (R)" The good news is, that also brilliant brains are there, too. Personalities like Johannes Hartl give talks and write books, which are also 30-40 years ahead of the American situation in the positive way. It would very much be worth translating.

@9:40 where you talk about your rocking in the dark and asking for an lifeboat, and hearing Ravi...that is so close to my situation. And it was Ravi speaking as well. And while there are those who want to condemn him and everything about him, I believe that his ministry and messages served a purpose then- and continue to today. There is much good to learn, and he offers hope in the Truth of the Gospel. If the accusations are true , God will sort that all out.
But the messages Ravi spoke should not be destroyed ; they can reach others in ways others may not understand.
And Alisa, I'm grateful you use your platform to honor God and that He pulled you out of the brink of deconstruction to serve Him. God bless.

For when you compromise the word of God or pick & choose what you like & don't like in the bible & act accordingly Than you've become a lukewarm Christian or worse an apostate. That's why I love our Pastor Greg for he calls things for what they are & he's definitely not politically correct.

I find it hard that somebody would preach against this kind of teaching and yet still teach think that the Bible teaches evolution. This Progressive Christianity is just taking the foundational belief of theistic evolution and taking it to its next logical step. You cannot get to this point with a worldview based on biblical creation. Theistic evolution is not based on the Bible.

    @12:56
So this may be the earliest creed, but we have to ask, "what scriptures?"
"Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures."
    What scriptures?
Childers herself admits that 1 Corinthians was written before the gospels, so the "scriptures" Paul is referring to can't be the gospels, even though the gospels claim Jesus died for sins.
Yet the letters of Paul appear after the gospels in the New Testament order. There's a reason they did that. The Church knew that if you read the gospels first, and then the letters of Paul, you would be inclined to read the letters of Paul through a gospel lens. How many Christians out there find themselves reading Paul with Gospel presuppositions?
But if you read the letters of Paul before the gospels, then when you come across this verse, you're like, "what scriptures?"
What scriptures say that Christ died for sins? Would they be in the Old Testament? No! Those are the only scriptures Paul could be referring to, yet the Old Testament says nothing about a Christ dying for sins. In fact, I think it's Daniel chapter 7 that claims that doing charity work atones for sins, not the crucifixion of a messianic figure.
So Paul is straight up lying here. He is referring to scriptures that don't actually exist! That's why Progressives deny that the bible is the word of God -- the bible disqualifies itself from such a title with these kinds of things.
Childers and other evangelicals need to learn WHY Progressives believe what we believe and deny what we deny. We have reasons and arguments for our beliefs and lack of beliefs.
And when evangelicals learn what we believe and why, they often become "Ex-vangelicals," when they become convinced of our arguments. Most people in Progressive Christianity are former evangelicals who have realized that Progressive Christianity actually makes sense and that what they have been raised to believe about the bible in evangelical churches was wrong.

Again, if you believe in theistic evolution you have a hard time speaking out against aberrant sexual behavior. If you can’t defend that in the beginning God created the heavens and earth and created us male and female you’re gonna have a hard time defending the rest of the Bible at least with any kind of consistency.

I get what your saying about presentation of one's own gospel as more accurate than scriptures. However your forgetting to address priesthood, personal revelation and the fact that the Bible has been translated so many times that you can buy one to say whatever you want it to say anyways. The only reason the bible is divine is because it's written by those who had authority. If you forget that then its nothing more then a journal. But of course it's more then a journal. It's interpretation of Gods intent for His children.

    • @kevinwells7080

Joel Breinholt the multiple translations trope doesn’t have the implications which you think it does. since i have access to many translations of the original languages, I can compare them and more knowledgeably determine what the original passage meant. Similarly, bc we have thousands of copies of the original manuscripts (esp. for the new testament) we can cross-check these and can arrive at a very high level of assurance that our original language volumes are accurate. In any case, even skeptical scholars like Dr. Bart Ehrman affirm that no essential doctrine is put in danger by a translation or transmission (copying) controversy. So multiple, publicly-available translations facilitate, rather than inhibit, an intellectually grounded faith.

Joel Breinholt This is not a doctrinal issue, since many Christians are determinists. But there are acceptable views re. that passage which don’t have God violating libertarian free will. for that matter, LFW only requires that free agents have significant moral freedom, not unlimited freedom in every circumstance. but again, LFW is a philosophical rather than a doctrinal conviction. thanks for your reply. Archaeology William Dever University Arizona “Archaeology and the Emergence of Early Israel
    www.jewage.org/wiki/en/Article:William_G._Dever_-_Biography
The Nature of the Biblical Literature
“The fact that the so-called historical books of the Hebrew Bible are really “historical myth” or “mythologised history” (Some would go to the extreme of saying simply ‘fiction’. Has long been known to scholars. But the implication of this fact for writing history and doing theology have not always been fully appreciated in synagogue or church” p.21.t
    The Conquest Model
The oldest and most obvious model - long associated with such names as Albright John Bright G.E. Wright and others - is that of military conquest. This model is drawn of course directly from the book of Joshua which recounts how the twelve-tribe Israelite league invaded from Transjordan after spectacular victories there and at Jericho then swept through western Palestine in a series of lightening campaigns that destroyed many of the Canaanite cities and annihilated much of the population. The twelve tribes then took possession of the whole land. .... This model has the merit of simplicity and it adheres to at least one strand of the biblical tradition. But the model has fared so badly archaeologically that it has been almost entirely abandoned by biblical scholars in the last two decades and it is overwhelmingly rejected by archaeologists.
    (1) The Exodus story is nowhere illuminated by references to ‘Israelites’ in Egyptian New Testament texts or by the discovery of nomadic routes and encampments in the Sinai desert despite intensive exploration of the latter by Israeli archaeologists. The one identifiable site excavated -Kadesh-barnea where the Israelites would have sojourned for some forty years in the thirteenth century century BCE.
    (2) Most if the southern Transjordan is now well known archaeologically but it is clear that the Edoites Moabites and other sedentary peoples that the incoming Isreaites are said to have encountered were not yet settled in the Late Bronze Age indeednot until two or more probably three centuries later. As an example the specific cities of Dibon and Heshbon where great Israelite victories are described have been located and extensively excavated. But there were not founded before the twelfth -eleventh centuries BCE and there are no remains there at all of the ‘conquest’ period.
    (3) The same is true of Jericho and Ai where great victories are hailed in the Bible. Both have been extensively but were abandoned much earlier (Jericho a thousand years earlier) and show no evidence of occupation at all in the thirteenth century BCE.
In summary the mounting archaeological evidence does not support a conquest model of any sort to explain the cultural changes of the Late Bronze-Early Iron 1 Horigon in central Palestine or the rise of Israel and indeed renders such a model impossible. P.24

Noel Hausler Have you read non-skeptical sources re. OT reliability?
not my field but i’ve read the odd paper here and there. A major issue is contrasting the current majority understanding of the data with a naive literalism which ignores historical genres and conventions (sunday-school flannel board, to use an antique analogy), and determining that the OT gets it wrong. Anyhow, i’ll see if i can get some relevant feedback on the book you quote (and I do have a paper on Jericho/Ai i can pass along) from others more knowledgeable than me. Thanks for the info.

@@kevinwells7080 Peter Enns is kind of an evangelical Bible scholar who is honest about the evidence.
      He writes
“One thing archaeologists can tell us is whether or not a city was violently destroyed by outside invaders and whether a new group took up residence. Battles and destructions of cities leave archaeological footprints - things like soot (if the town was burned) weapons smashed pottery and human bones. Mass migrations of people groups as the Bible described with Israel entering Canaan would cause some cultural upheaval and leave some remains for archaeologists to dig up and write long books about to help them get tenure.
Remember those thirty-one Canaanite towns listed in the book of Joshua (plus four other towns on the other side of the Jordan River)? Sixteen towns were destroyed according to the stories in the books of Numbers Joshua and Judges. Of those sixteen two or three maybe four show signs of violent destruction at or around the time when oshua and his army were ploughing through Canaan (thirteenth century BCE about two hundred years before the time of King David. That’s it.
The towns on the other side of the Jordan River in Moab don’t look like they were even occupied at the time.
We also read in the Bible that twelve towns were taken over without a fight. But of those twelve only seven were occupied at the time according to archaeological findings. And of those same twelve towns that the Bible says weren’t destroyed three actually do show signs of destruction
In other words archaeology and the biblical story don’t line up very well at all”

      @verindictus3639 Год назад

God is three in one. This concept is nearly incomprehensible to finite beings like us, but our inability to fully understand it does not make it less true. The God of Abraham claimed the name "Jehovah", or "Yahweh" for Himself in Exodus 3:14, when He told Moses "I am that I am". The Hebrew word translated as "Yahweh" sounds like and is derived from the Hebrew word for "I am". God the father of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is said to be a different person from Jesus the Son, yet Jesus ALSO claims the name "Yahweh" for Himself. In John 8:58, Jesus tells the Pharisees, "Before Abraham was born, I am!" Why didn't He say, "I was"? That would have made more sense, grammatically speaking. Because He wasn't merely claiming to be around before Abraham, He was claiming to be God, claiming to be "I am": "Yahweh". The Jews hearing this recognized this, shown in their reaction by picking up stones to kill Him.
So Jesus also claims the name "Yahweh". But He does NOT deny the Godhood of the Father, Who first claims the name "Yahweh" in the Bible. Nor does He deny that God is One. So Who is Yahweh? Both. Both are part of the Triune God, the God Who is One in three Persons, often described as three Persons in one Being.. The Trinitarian Jesus is NOT "associated with multiple coequals". The Trinitarian Jesus is ONE, but three in one. And as such, He is God.
