The mindset that was a game changer for me was treating God's Word like food. It is our nourishment. We are starving ourselves and will not grow if we are not feeding on His Word. And, guess what. I never skip eating food each day. Even if eating is time consuming, I make time for it. So should we with feeding on God's Word. I am currently on my 3rd year of "To the Word" Bible Reading Challenge, a plan that takes you through the entire Bible during the school year. Thanks for sharing this, Ashley! May we all be women who come daily to the feast God has prepared for us, His Word.
Thank you for sharing this. I have attempted the whole Bible and was about 75% through. I pray more women and men get convicted to Read the Word of God to become more like Him and understand! ❤ ❤
So proud of you! That is quite an accomplishment 👏 I've been doing my "one year" Bible that I got when I was a teenager, and I really enjoy reading every morning...but yes, it's not easy. Some mornings I get up early to read in quiet, and some mornings, like this morning, I read amidst chaos. But, I do believe that God honors our commitment, and our faithfulness to the reading of God's word will simply enrich our lives and bless us in ways unimaginable to our minds at this time Ephesians 3:20
Exactly what I needed to hear today! What you said about us being hangry and knowing something is missing and trying to fill that void with the lusts and covetousness of this world has been so true of me lately. Thankful for Gods reminder through you, that He is the Bread of Life and the well of living waters!
I'm so glad that part resonated with you--- I only know it because it's my same struggle and sometimes we don't realize we are in that position until God makes it clear to us. Rooting for you to do this for yourself and hope you'll update me in a year or so that you did.
Thank you for this video and convicting me!! I’ve loved the Bible in a Year podcast with Fr. Mike Schmitz - I haven’t made it all the way through yet. It’s one thing to read the Bible and another thing to *understand* it, and I definitely appreciate Fr. Mike’s teachings for those passages that can get boring (lineages), be confusing (Judges), and/or just go over my head the first time through.
@corriehanson153 I'm doing the rosary in a year now too and I'm really loving the short meditations- really nice because I have a newborn, a 2 year old, a 6 year old and a 10 year old!
I'm doing the Bible in a Year with Fr. Mike Schmitz. There is a PDF online with the daily readings and he has a podcast with commentary each day. I'm giving myself grace and if I finish even 60% of it this year, I will feel accomplished!
I am so glad I came across this video today. I have been wanting to read the Bible in its entirety, but feeling overwhelmed. I thank you for the resources!
Love this and excited to share with a friend. I’ve read through the Bible several time but never chronologically. Thankful for the quiet mornings, and for great sleepers who now at ages 4-10 stay in bed till 7 when it’s time for everyone to come out. I love my quiet time in the morning but sometimes it’s easy to give so much time to a great Christian book but skimp on the time spent in the Word. Thank you for the reminder! We are so privileged to have the word of God in our own language, and my husband does a Bible Reformation Teaching that reminds us of the privilege and the cost to have the Bible in English. I’ll link it in a comment for anybody who might be interested. God‘s word is truly a gift to us! Thank you Ashley for the reminder of the importance of the spiritual discipline of reading the Bible .
Thank you for the encouraging and informative video. I see so much of myself in your experience and I too have wanted to do this for so long but lack spiritual discipline! I absolutely love the site that you used for the Bible reading plan...it's so customizable and I love that :). Thank you!
I just finished reading through the Bible in a year too! I used the Bible app and the one year chronological plan! The hard thing for me is gaining the motivation to do it again. It’s something I know you don’t just read once but continually. Unfortunately my reading has become like you said, half asleep, at the end of a day and for me the word isn’t speaking to me like it used too.
Ashley, just wish I could give you a hug IRL and tell you well done!!! This year I'm doing one book of the Bible per month to do a deeper, slower study of each and memorizing 1-2 verses per book. Maybe switching it up after your full bible-in-a-year will help?
I love that idea so much! For me, reading the whole Bible was so good but it is so much mere reading time, I couldn’t meditate on the scripture or memorize and I didn’t study specific topics. Thank you so much for commenting and your suggestion! ♥️
yas babe!!!! love this!!! My husband and I are currently going through the esv chronological bible and loving it! I also have never read the entire bible but hope to this year!
That's OUTSTANDING you and your husband are committed to doing this together -- not a better accountability partner out there. Hold yourself to this -- I'd lOVE to see you back here updating us that you completed the entire Bible before February 2026.
Finally making reading my bible through a priority this year! I'm working through the Bible Recap right now, and I've been really enjoying the commentaries from Tara-Lee Cobble. I have also found that right after breakfast seems to be the best time for me spend time reading.
Hello, thank you for this! I'm so glad I came across your video and I'm totally convicted how I've become so starved and stagnant. I love how God places things at the right time. I needed to hear this! I'm going to get started too and be filled. I pray others will join and remain steadfast, and that you continue to grow in our Amazing Lord and in telling others about him. Lots of love from the UK 🇬🇧. 🥰
Update: I shared your video with lots of my other mama friends in Christ and my reading plan is going well. Already enjoying the fruits of this, and in my household. Thanks for the encouragement and reminder. 🥰🥰🥰
❤ I did a chronological plan with my husband a few years ago - 52 Weeks of Pursuit. Currently doing BibleProject’s One Story That Leads To Jesus on the Bible app with my local church. Thanks, Ashley! Loved encouragement to put down the “next shiny book” and pour Scripture over my head 💦
Sooo easy to give Him the leftovers- I know I tend to do that if I'm not careful. As a natural morning person, I schedule my prayer/meditation time first thing in the morning, outside, when the world is still dark and quiet- I call it my Coffee with God time😉
Thank you for your vulnerability and honesty! I love that you are leaning in to what the Lord is calling you to!! So awesome to hear how you are growing!!
Thank you for this video. It's the boost I needed to get back on the saddle. I was reading the Charles Stanley study Bible and it was honestly well written and engaging so I'm going to get back into it. Life was life "ing" but now I'm left with no more excuses just a sense of urgency. Again thank you. And like you I'm not an early riser so thank you for the reminder to open the book when I'm most alert even though the kids around. It's important that they see me studying the Word.😊❤
I get it completely Trina -- I had all of the excuses and procrastionation myself. So encouraged you happened to click on this one today and God used it to resonate with you. Excited for you to get back on track where you want to be!
Thank you for sharing all of these amazing tips! I’ve always felt guilty for not reading the Bible in its entirety, even though I was born into and raised in a Christian family. This year, I am fully determined to read the Holy Bible from cover to cover. I’m currently on the “Read the Bible in a Year with Andrew Wommack” plan. I’m following this plan on the YouVersion Holy Bible app, but reading a physical, paper Bible. There are several of my mom friends on there and we just keep each other accountable this way, you can see who did their reading, also see each other’s notes and see what the Holy Spirit is revealing to each of us.
So glad you shared the details of how you are going to go about it, how your mom friends are able to stay accountable alongside you and I'm sincerely rooting that you're going to do the full reading this year EJ!
Bible ReCap is awesome! Thanks for sharing Ashley! You inspire me to keep going! I have been a believer for 10 years and still haven’t read the Bible cover to cover
I love tip 6! I read the entire Bible last year cover to cover. This year I am going through it chronological and hoping to learn so much more about God.
I loved reading it in chronological order , reading the old testament stories matched up with the psalms "real time" was so cool! I hope you enjoy it too :)
Ashley, I watch this a few days ago and since then I can't stop thinking about it.....I started the challenge! I've decided on completing it in 500 days. I've always believed the Bible is true, but I feel God needs me to now truly know for myself and especially be able to teach my children based on my own convictions and experiences with it. You have been a mentor to me in my physical health for 8 years and now you are becoming a spiritual mentor as well! Thank you for sharing your light and bring us all to Jesus in every area of life! May God bless you and your family! 🩷
I read the Bible cover to cover a few times before having children, but I had a really hard time reading it consistently after becoming a mom. I am currently working my way through a chronological reading plan called the Bible Recap by Tara Leigh Cobble which is available for free on the Bible App. However, this time I am listening to it every morning while I make breakfast before my kids wake up. By listening rather than reading and pairing the reading plan with something I naturally do everyday, maintaining the habit has been incredibly easy!
Sophie, that's awesome you have read the Bible in it's entirety a few times before! So glad to hear you're enjoying the Bible Recap (seems to be lots of good feedback here on that in the comments!) to share how it's working for you this year.
Grateful you took the time to watch this Linzy (or let me know if your name is actually spelled differently) -- thanks for letting me know it resonated with you right now.
I found for myself that starting with the New Testament and then once I'd completed that, going back to read the Old Testament, worked best for me. Specially because the OT is so bogged down with an ancient foreign culture that it can be difficult to feel like you understand it/ are getting anything out of it. But it didn't only help keep me motivated or help me understand Christianity more, it also works as a frame of reference overlaid over the OT to help me understand things I'd likely miss if I hadn't already read through the NT, especially prophecies. With the NT, I went really slowly, reading one chapter at a time and taking NOTES on everything! With the OT (I'm currently in Psalms), I stopped doing that as I found once I hit Leviticus, I didn't usually have anything to write down 😅 So I've started reading more chapters a day and just pausing to reflect as needed. So now I think being flexible and trying out different methods that set you up for success if something stops working is for the best. Hope this helps anyone who has struggled to complete reading the Bible before!
Awesome! I completely agree and am loving year two of chronological bible reading. Only now after 33 years and being a pastor's kid that I finally understand the historic periods and kingdom division and exiles. Last year I did The Bible Recap by Tara-Lee Cobble and loved her 7ish minute commentary after. I did that through the youversion bible app and my physical bible. This year I am trying "From Eden to Eternity" with Daily Grace. Let's be healthy and strong women and mamas spiritually too!
Thank you for this! It is so easy to give God what is “left” after everything else. But, Jesus said that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. His Word is life and truth! We need it more than our daily bread. I am guilty of not making reading my Bible a priority, but oh boy, when I do, I can tell a difference in my life as a Momma and wife!
*Thank you for the encouragement! ♥Question. While you were doing the bible reading plan this year, did you also have another bible plan/time to do with your children as well? I find it hard doing both. I focus a lot on teaching my children the bible but then tend to forget what I just read that prior night in my own bible study.*
So glad this resonated with you! YES - we do family Bible time every night after dinner except for Sundays (church day) or Friday nights when we are usually eating out/pizza in kind of night. This looks different each day but includes reading from one of our children's Bibles, asking comprehension questions, catechism questions, memory verses for ongoing maintenance since they are easy for kids to forget if we learn one and move on too quickly, sometimes a praise and worship song/hymn. Usually takes me 15 minutes while everyone is still at the table, depending on if there are breaks to wrangle in a 2 year old to come back (I'm sure you know the deal). : D
@@glowbodypt Thank you so much for the reply! I was thinking about right after dinner at the table. This gives me some ideas :) Do you homeschool your kiddos?
