I get that they didn't have a lot of money, but it's not like Chandler just decided to buy these things without anyone's prior consent. They must at some point have all mutually decided on this plan for Ross's birthday. Besides, for this $62 per person, they will all get to enjoy a Hootie and the Blowfish concert, plus eat at least a slice of birthday cake. It's not like it's throwaway money -- they are each receiving value in return for the expense. However, I feel like they overspent on the gift. The concert tickets at that time in the mid-90s were probably around $26-$38 per person. If everyone is covering Ross's share, that's another $5-8 per person. The cake was probably around $11, so let's just say another $2 per person. That leaves $14-$29 per person for the gift, for a total cost of $70-$149 for the gift. The math works out if the concert tix were more expensive and the gift was on the lower end of the spectrum, but I don't see it working out the other way around. Joey seems like he doesn't have a lot of money in the show, but technically in the show he's an actor compared to the rest of them he should have the most money the actress make more money than what jobs those other people are doing like head chef, he may not have always been like working with a job but when he did he should have enough money to be ok until the next one can you share an apartment so they share the bills, he's not overly wasn't spending money but maybe on this show he's the most lowest paying actress in the world.
are you looking at average actor salaries or what are you basing that on?
