- Steve McQueen Received This Fatal Diagnosis Before His Death - How Did Steve McQueen Die? Steve McQueen, the renowned American actor and one of the highest-paid movie stars of his time, known for his iconic roles in films such as "The Great Escape" and "Bullitt," had his acting career abruptly cut short by an unexpected diagnosis, pleural mesothelioma. During his battle against mesothelioma, McQueen turned to Santos' Clinica de Santa Rosa in search of relief from the excruciating pain inflicted by cancer. Sadly, despite undergoing surgery to remove cancerous tumors in his neck and stomach, his health took a tragic turn. Respiratory complications emerged, leading to his untimely demise from heart failure a few hours after the operation. In accordance with McQueen's final wishes, his body was cremated and his ashes were scattered in the Pacific Ocean. This devastating disease, caused by exposure to asbestos, claimed McQueen's life at the age of 50 in 1980. His illness is thought to have started during his time in the United States Marine Corps in the late 1940s when he was exposed to asbestos. It was on December 22, 1979, that McQueen received a diagnosis of pleural mesothelioma, a cancer that affects the lining of internal organs. Despite his determination and numerous attempts to combat the incurable disease, his health rapidly deteriorated over the following months. Less than a year later, on November 7, 1980, McQueen tragically succumbed to a cardiac arrest resulting from the widespread metastasis of his mesothelioma. The devastating impact of asbestos became evident in McQueen's life even before his diagnosis. Two years before his passing, he began experiencing a persistent cough, which was an early indication of the disease taking hold. McQueen, aware of his deteriorating health, sought various treatments and lifestyle changes in an attempt to alleviate his symptoms and fight the disease. ''...'' He explored the use of antibiotics and quit smoking, recognizing the detrimental effects of tobacco on his condition. Despite his efforts, the mesothelioma continued to progress, causing a steady decline in his well-being.
