Good review you did here. Covered a lot of real usage scenarios. I ordered a T14 G3 yesterday. It's configured a little different than the one you reviewed, with the Ryzen 7Pro processor and 16g ram. Won't get it till middle of December though.. I went for the 2.2k screen which should be a little nicer screen I would think, and the larger battery. Lenovo site has some good deals up right now.. Was originally looking at the X1 Carbon but decided against it. I like the Ryzen powered unit a little better..
Your reviews are very good.. thanks.

    Nice review!
I got this exact device (same CPU even) for work just this week, but have only used it to power external monitors/periphery in home office.
Same thing with the sleep mode. Particularly, it lost the external monitors, so everytime it goes on sleep, the windows are not on the displays where I left them, not good.
Re: AMD vs. Intel. Power efficiency is important for battery life, yes, but even more important is fan speed and heat. It can be a very subtle nuisance, but then it can distract you when you want to focus. So this is why right now (!) AMD is the better choice. Let's see how that changes over time.
    Anyhow, nice review.

      Thank you!
The sleep issue is really annoying but I think it has been fixed by a recent windows update. I think it even updated part of the BIOS.
The fans do not get loud at all and it’s great. This thing can pump out a lot of heat at full load though. It reminds me of the Xbox series X being whisper quiet but extremely hot exhaust.

I have a P15 Gen 2 and an Ideapad Gaming 3 Gen 7 but they're both really heavy and a pain to travel with. This review helped but it would have been a little more helpful if you could talk more about this laptops portability - perhaps compare it to other 15" laptops (workstations or not) so we can get a better idea if we could purchase this as an alternative.
It really sucks that ThinkPad's are not typically sold in stores so its not easy to walk in to a store and handle the laptop to see if it suits our needs.

    • @AbesReviews67

That’s a fair point. In my first impressions I compared the portability to a Thinkpad W530 I used to have. It’s 15.6” to a 14 inch. 5.5 pounds to 2.7 pounds. It’s really portable and it really close to the X1 carbon for portability. Even the new Thinkpad T16 is very light for that size.

Hey! Great video! How is your laptop today? I had a T14s but had to return it because of some issues my unit had. I went through multiple consumer grade laptops and returned all of them. Nothing compares unfortunately. So I'm considering T14 now (as T14s is no longer available where I live). Could you tell me: how is it overall after all the time? RAM still enough? I'm considering it with 1260p + MX550 (similar performance but TB4 + expandable RAM) - have you had such unit in your hands perhaps? Also SSD - did you try replacing SSD, did you get better results (i installed 980 pro in my T14s but it worked at 50% speed that time - not sure what was the problem). Thanks!

    • @AbesReviews67

What issues did you have with the T14s? It’s still great after all this time. There is still a random battery drain issue where it sometimes doesn’t fall asleep. 16gb of RAM is still enough for the tasks I do.I have not been able to test an Intel based T14 sadly.I left the stock ssd in the laptop for now since it’s good enough for what I do

    • @studentx

@@AbesReviews67 The issues I had: SSD capable of 7000/5000 read/write runing at 3000/2000; lid misplacement (1mm shifted to the right when lid closed); RAM benchmarks were extremely low (off with what notebookcheck provided for this model). Then I tested Zephyrus G14 with 6900HS, which was a disaster that randomly restarted, was warm with no battery life; Firefly G10 with 1355U + A500 is beautiful device, but HOT af and has not great daily tasks performance (W11 UI seems choppy) and battery life is rather mediocre.
The T14 G3 is very well priced right now, and I am considering it but I'm tempted by Asus X13 with 7940HS but I sense it will be as all the other consumer laptops... I know... First world problems😅

Actually, the AMD chipset does not support TB4/USB4, you will need the Intel for it. The Intel does also have the ability to upgrade the memory. The SSD is replaceable, which I did, as I got the base model as it was on a fantastic sale. There are plenty of ports in my humble opinion. The laptop has great support for large 32" monitors, which will bring the graphical needs for photo editing. Remember that you can charge, and hook up the monitor (with PD) to the one USB-c port. Upgrades I did: battery, power button with fingerprint, 1Tb SSD. It is a fine laptop, especially for programming. But the screen is a bit of a let-down. I will be scouring the net for a higher nit version. Inside the office it is fine, outside it is not. The wake-up issue can be resolved by changing the LAN driver, there are two drivers. I ran into the same issue and replacing the driver worked just excellent.

Most people don’t need the T14s unless you need USB 4. The T14 doesn’t thermal throttle much at all. But most people will never run those CPU cores maxed out less they’re doing some sort of rendering.
