My father bought one new in 1984. I sold it in 94 a year after he passed. Well over 200,000 miles and it never ever missed a beat. Only thing I had to change after 10 years was the carburettor. I was easily getting 46 miles per gallon on the highway-( British gallons). Lovely stick shift and very nippy as it’s a light car so despite having less than 100 hp it could move.
Man, this really makes me miss my old 1986 Honda Prelude Si. It was an A20A with PGM-FI, the first year for fuel injection. I bought it off of the second owner, who bought it from Car N Driver magazine as it was their test car for 1986. I took it to a bodyshop and had it fully worked over for any rust and had it repainted the factory red and it was beautiful. I put some nice period correct wheels on it with some low profile tires and I also put a full Sony stereo system with Sony amps and Orion Cobalt subwoofers in it. The A20A isn't a very powerful engine, but I got my old Prelude up to 130 with it with a custom made cold air intake and a 2.5" exhaust that I had made for it with a Magnaflow muffler. It sounded decent, but it was extremely underpowered. I bought a H22A to swap into it, but this was back in 2000, and aftermarket support was nil back then for the 1986 model...

I paid $900 for my 89 Prelude 2.0 Si manual and I'm learning how cool owning a Honda can be. I grew up with Nissans so it's a bit of a departure for me: my current daily is an 01 Xterra 2.4L manual I rescued from a towyard for $550. This is my kind of channel, keep us posted!
I just picked up an '88 Accord hatchback I found on Craigslist. 98k original. Needs a new carb, but she's a bonafide garage queen survivor. Didn't get her for the price you did, but I couldn't be happier. Love the simplicity.
Hay Randy, I would give it a shot. I would replace the battery, change the oil & filter, and at least check the front brake pads & rotors, and maybe just maybe replace the cam cover gasket with the cam seal. After that drive to the glass shop and beyond :)
There's definitely money to be made on that honda? A little bit of work and it'll be a nice car other than the hail damage but in Oklahoma I'd be a nice second car to go to work and stuff in the summer so if it does have a hail damage anymore ain't going to kill it. Put a little super unleaded in it too that'll help it.
@@dcformee123 Hi spackmaster Chavez, Yes that car would be a good first car for a kid in High school as a 1st car as insurance would be cheap good on gas, and not a whole lot of upkeep other than what Randy does. Also definitely change the timing belt, and the car should last 100,000 miles or more.
My grandparents had an Accord hatchback of this generation. She got a few heavy tables home back in the day in that Accord hatch. Thanks for the video, Randy.
I owned one in 1987, made for Saudi market. Drove her back from S. Arabia to UK via Iraq, Turkey, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Italy, France and finally UK. She didn't skip a beat. The best car I ever owned. Same colour as yours but different spec.
What a big safe and bringing back the legendary Honda back on the road Randy. You make 1 to go out there and find a project then get it driving again. Thumbs up 👍 Car would love new fluids(oil, coolant and petrol refresh), filters, leaking gasket, new rear glass etc. It deserves it. This is the content that got me hooked up on this channel.
Our family had 4 Honda Accords between 1981 and 1995. I've said it before, but you simply can't kill those Hondas. They'll rust out way before the engine fails.
I took a '06 Altima my cousin gave me with 160k miles. It needed a PS pump and the a/c wasn't working. I replaced the PS pump, a/c clutch kit was all it needed. Replaced the brakes, struts, both axles, coils, valve covers, spark plugs, control arms, and gave her a fresh coat of Maaco. This was three years ago, and she's still running like a champ.
YES! Randy I felt your same excitement seeing the dash light up and starter crank after discovering that fuse was just blown! Well done man! You're bringing them back to life, one old car at a time!
WOW!!!!! WOW!!!! What a beauty. These years Hondas were tanks. I had one like this. Was grey. 5 speed, my first car. Sadly in Ontario, Canada. rust killed it before the engine was even close to dead. My father bought it new in late 84 when they came out. Only cleanest example I've seen since is at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI. Fix this car. It's a very easy to fix car. The miles is nothing. It will last a very, very long time when taken care of properly. Mine has over 400.000 kms when sold it. It's a time machine to me. Lots of memories with that car. Thanks.
The 1st generation of Honda Accord to be built jointly in America and Japan, the 2nd gen 1982-85 Accord...Built in Marysville, Ohio, starting in 1982. Brings a tear to my eye, seeing that tan 1985 Accord sedan, had one exactly like it in 2003-2004. Although, I met my gf in my 87 Accord DX...We started our life together, in an 85 Accord exactly like this one, except with a roof rack and Vestatec front air dam, and Isuzu Impulse RS Turbo alloys. Miss that car.
Even with the hail damage, i'd daily that thing. A good service, maybe some gaskets, plugs and wires and a brake job, and it'll run for another 30 years.
Those are my favorite. That and the civics from the same year they ran forever and only died because of the rust. That one looks rust free and well cared for!
I had a 1982 Honda Accord 4 door sedan - bought it new. It was a great car and was actually fun to drive. Sold it with over 200K on the odometer. The car had zero problems over the 10 years that I owned it.
I had an 82 Accord as well, however it was the coupe Hatchback model. I bought back in the late 90’s, I had it for around 3 to 4 months. It drove well and was fuel efficient for a carburetor car. I sold it to a former coworker who wanted it since the day I bought it.
I had a white 1982 Honda Accord with 170,000 miles on it. Ran so good and the body and paint were almost perfect. It had blue interior which I never cared for but it was clean and no rips or fades. I lived in Payson Arizona and I decided to take the Honda up to Flagstaff with my sweetheart. I had a new Ford Explorer with the Eddie Bauer interior at the time. Very nice truck but I loved driving the Honda because it handled very well and it was a good looking car. It was the fall of 2000 and I needed some time away from the business I owned. So going up to Flagstaff I didn't have any problems. Ran like a new car. I bought this car for 500 dollars because it would not start. I got it home and flipped the fuse box cover and viola! It had a blown main fuse just like yours. I replaced it and it ran great for years. So the weekend of August we took the interstate up to Flagstaff and spent 2 day's up there. Sunday night we decided to take the scenic route back from Flagstaff to my home in Payson Arizona. We were on a two lane road when an Antelope jumped in front of us. I managed to swerve and miss this gigantic animal but hit the soft shoulder and the front wheels dug into the loose dirt and gravel. The back of the car flipped forward and fell right on to the roof. The sun roof was open and I sustained cuts and bruises on my head. I was bleeding pretty bad. If I had hit the animal at the speed I was going, my girlfriend or me or the both of us may have been crushed by the heavy body of the Antelope. Everything I had in the car was thrown all over the road. All my CD's were thrown miles apart. After the ambulance checked me out, I had the car towed to a filling station in Happy Jack Arizona about 5 miles from the accident site. What I am getting to is that except for a broken rear window and windshield, I was actually able to start the car and drive like nothing happened. The left front wheel was slightly bent and it shimmied but I got it up to 60 miles an hour. I didn't want to pay for towing so I drove it home the next day. The front windshield was shattered on the passenger side but I could see out of it. We both made it out alive and with very minimal injuries. My sweetheart was hanging upside down from the safety belts holding her. I had to release her and she fell down. That's pretty much what sealed our relationship. We have been together since the mid ninety's. I wanted to save the old Honda but the body was tweaked too much to be able to repair. Might as well pull the engine and drop it into another good Honda body. I sold it to a young guy that needed the engine and transmission. That was a great little car.
You definitely have to save her, Honda's run forever, and she's rare. You don't see them around no more these days. I been a car enthusiast all my life, and classic cars has a special place in my heart. I wish I had a classic car, my dream car is a 1959 Cadillac Deville or Fleetwood.
My first car was 1985 Honda Accord Sedan. It was 15 years old at the time and had over 200k on it and was 5 speed manual. It was a great first car. Thanks for the nostalgia trip.
Good Morning Randy!!!…enjoy all your videos. Where are you buying your cars from?… still at Copart? Great watching you diagnose and repair!..Thanks again
It's a classic, it deserves all the love, get the rear glass, and yes, please drive it. My first drive in one of these was a revelation, because I realized that unlike all the americans, small cars don't need to all be crappy. For its time, this Honda just exuded quality, and kicked everything else to the curb. I can afford a lot more car now, but I would still feel privileged to drive this car today. Hondas just make you feel special!
Great find! I am a Honda enthusiast and have owned 8 Hondas beginning in 1986. I hope you will continue with this video and I would love to see the car once you have cleaned it up.
Super. Freaking. Awesome. Car. You lucked out on a winner! I would LOVE to see a fun adventure to the city for a rear glass installation and hopefully Brian's touch at the Auto Spa. I also don't see any rust on the body as well, so it truly is a 63k mile car!
*I used to work at a Honda dealer when these were sold brand new and truck loads of them were arriving monthly! They were great cars and most of them sold were manual transmission models and this was in the USA during 1984 and 1985. These were the beginning of the "Golden Years" of Honda automobiles, and indeed they were really that good!* This was an LX most likely and the brown color in that model wasn't that commonly ordered by the dealers back then. Usually White, metallic light blue, and metallic burgundy red were the most popular in the USA.
Drive it Randy! I had a 1990 accord and it was unstoppable. Horrible winter weather left many in the ditch or unable to start, but my accord blasted through it all. I got it for 1500 and had it for 4 years until an uninsured motorist hit it abd totaled it
Can't wait for the X-Terra. I just picked up a Pathfinder with 171k miles. Runs perfectly. Randy, you are knocking it out of the ballpark with your newest vids. Love it brother!
You can't go wrong with a Honda. Even with one of 37 years old. I have been enjoying every minute of this video. My oncle had the same car years ago. A 82 Accord which he bought in 1985. The one hé had was produced in Japan. The ones we had in Eurooe all were produced in Japan. This example was produced in the Usa. Just give it new oil, new plugs and some good gas. Maybe a new valve cover gasket and injector cleaner. Love to see more videos on this Accord! 💕
My first car was a 1979 Honda Civic 1200 4 speed manual. I've had 66 vehicles since then, but I have always been partial to Hondas. I currently own a 1997 Civic coupe with a fully built LSVTEC turbo engine that makes 709 wheel horsepower and my daily is a 2004 Acura TL with a six speed manual swap, a full Invidia exhaust with dual mufflers, deleted cats with larger diameter headers, a larger diameter collector pipe, a full Injen cold air intake, a 2007 TL manual ECU, with a Hondata FlashPro custom tune. It currently makes 298 wheel horsepower which is more than enough to make it fun. It even has a Nitrous Express dry NOS kit installed on it, but it needs to be tuned on a dyno with larger injectors before it'll work correctly. The Nitrous tank is even filled.
Old Hondas are GOLD. So glad you have these on the channel, not looking forward to see the other junk nissans and Crysler ghetto machine. DEFINITELY DRIVE THIS TO THE CITY GET THAT WINDOW AND DETAIL IT!!!!! 😍
I love this car, although I really wish it was the 1986 model with the pop-up headlights. I had an 86 Accord for my first car that was that same color with the brown interior. Brings back memories.
Randy glad to see you going back in time with these oldies but goodies, I say that ol Honda will take you anywhere give it a chance drive her to the city get new back window then detail the inside pop it up for sale after a long over due service. I bet you can get 1000 to 1500 for that car maybe even 2500 trust me Honda folks will be all over that thing, can't wait to see more.
I love these ole Hondas they are just about bulletproof they run and run and just keep going ? I’d love you to take her on a over 2 hour round trip. She’d absolutely love it and would make it no issue at all !!
I have a 1985 Honda Accord Hatch sitting in my driveway right now! I have similar issues but may transition over to fuel injection very soon! Love this car!
Glass, tune up, PDR the panels, get her detailed and buffed, and this will be a sweet survivor that will have some personal worth hanging onto for you or whomever winds up with her. Nice find!
I would change all the fluids first, that would make her happier. There are dentless dent removal places that might not maker her perfect, but could get out the more noticeable ones. The long drive would be good, but check those tires too, they have been on there a while too.
The alternator or its regulator has very likely failed, it looks like the charging voltage is way too high and is having spikes, and the battery/alternator light flickering is also telling its having problems. That light will never come on because a dead/bad battery on vehicles this old, it's purely an alternator warning light. If I saw correctly the Noco was showing over 16 volts when the headlights weren't on, and it might get even higher at higher RPMs. The engine dying when you turned off the headlights was probably caused by an extreme voltage spike, it could also be influencing with the engine electronics and causing the poor running generally. This might also have something to do with the dead radio and blown fuses..
Loved this video. I have a 88 Accord and these cars will easily (even with 80's technology) run 250,000 miles. You have to watch the crankshaft and cam seals for leakage (they can leak real bad). She sounds like the valve lash could be adjusted. Maybe the burnt fuse has to do with the broken back wondow and was grounded out when broken. When you first tried to start her, I knew she had spark (the tachometer will jerk while cranking) if the distributor ignitor is good. I don't know about the 85, but on mine the gas tank has a drain plug. I say go for it. Check the levels, and rubbers. Don't forget the phone just in case.
Oh man, Randy. This brought me back to when I had a 85 Honda Accord EX 2 door as my first car in 2003. It was a love-hate relationship, mostly hate. When I let it go, it was literally holding together with spit and bailing wire. It’s A/C never worked, so it was “fun” during the Summer. The fan vents were so screwed up it could not defog the windshield during the cold months. My stereo deck kept losing power every other day. There was so many electrical gremlins on it that I gave up trying to get it sorted. Then the equipped moonroof leaked like a shower head. I had to use silicone sealant to stop the leaks. My last straw was when the power steering suddenly quit working while driving a rainstorm and the CV joints started failing. That was when I decided not to put anymore money on this potential money pit and it was time to let it go at 131k miles. Intended to get a late 80’s Volvo wagon but ended up with a 93 Ford Taurus GL. However Randy, I hope your 85 does not end up like mine. Things to watch out for, check and replace the CV joint boots asap, even if they appear to be ok. I don’t think it was intended to last for 37 years. This has a timing belt engine, if memory serves me correctly, so get that replaced too. And since you will be in there, get the seals replaced too.
Honda gotta love the reliability I own a Honda Accord myself and it’s just a well built vehicle It’s nice not having to worry about it constantly breaking down
Change out all the fluids, fill it up with non ethanol and those tires have probably outlived their expiration date. Yes it’s all worth it on that one. I’ll say it one more time, It’s all worth it.
I used to have an 84 that looked alot like this one. Since it hasn't run for years, replace all the fluids and give it a tune. Check the brakes and make sure it is safe and ready to go. The way it started up is a testament to Honda quality at the time. Oh. And you ought to look at that back window. In one of the shots it looked like it might have taken a rock chip or something....
I don't find the old cars boring Randy because in retirement that's what a lot of us can afford. It's also what we worked on, and can still understand.
VERY nice. A few years back, I picked up a non-running 1985 Toyota Cressida for only $200 with a popped fusible link. Clean body, runs like a dream now. EDIT: I say drive it. Hondas from the 80s are bulletproof.
You scored on that accord! after a little tune up, replace the rear glass, and a clean up that will be a great car for someone. I would drive that little accord everywhere. They don’t make them like the used in those days
Nothing boring about old reliable cars that have survived the test of time. Everyone else does muscle cars, boring after a while. To find a gem like this Honda, very interesting.
Man my 1990 honda accord had this weird relay that worked for the cooling fan and also the power windows and for some reason the relay for the fan would click repeatedly and turn the fan on and off and drain the battery out of no where, so I switched the relays between the two and they worked fine in the power window but either one would do the same thing with the fan, the relay was like 100 bucks and I couldn't find any relays or replacements at the junk yard to test if both were just, bad but working when you hit the window button. Still don't ever know what it was ended up selling after a fender bender but still ran great at 258k
I had an 84 accord hatch in a similar color and I miss it dearly. It was my daily driver for a while until an uninsured, underaged kid in his dad’s cobalt slammed into me after he failed to yield. Totally destroyed the front end of the old girl who had less than 100k miles on her. When I got out of the hospital and went to the yard where she was parked, she started right on up, but the insurance company refused to repair it due to the age. Hopefully this Honda finds an owner who appreciates it as much as I did mine.
That Honda is well worth fixing up ( even with the hail damage ) , it'll make a good daily driver for someone .
I’d take it offfff his hands
I’d gladly take it off his hands
Not worth the trouble. Send it to the crusher.

Otherwise congrats on a sick deal!
I love the old, 'boring' cool car content. Keep it up :)
Yes Randy, I for one would love the to see the Honda up and running, great video, keep them coming
Love the new thumbnails! Keep up the good work. I also love old Hondas like this one.
What a big safe and bringing back the legendary Honda back on the road Randy.
You make 1 to go out there and find a project then get it driving again.
Thumbs up 👍
Car would love new fluids(oil, coolant and petrol refresh), filters, leaking gasket, new rear glass etc. It deserves it.
This is the content that got me hooked up on this channel.
Agreed
I love when you get non-runners started! Great Honda!
Our family had 4 Honda Accords between 1981 and 1995. I've said it before, but you simply can't kill those Hondas. They'll rust out way before the engine fails.
She's sweet! Replace the back window, the valve cover gasket and the battery and she's good to go!
Might want to take a peek at the timing belt before you drive too far! Had one just like it loved it!
YES! Randy I felt your same excitement seeing the dash light up and starter crank after discovering that fuse was just blown! Well done man! You're bringing them back to life, one old car at a time!
Love the videos Randy can't wait to see the next one 🕜😂🕜😂
WOW!!!!! Thanks.
Great watching the old Honda come back to life.. keep up the good work.. looking forward to the next video..
Whats up Randy ! Hope all is well ! Love all the cars 👍
Beautiful car! You should find original radio. Interior will look much better with it and also put Honda covers on speakers.
Hi Randy, that honda looks like a great pickup for you. a back window and valve cover gaskets and its ready to go 👍
You definitely have to save her, Honda's run forever, and she's rare. You don't see them around no more these days. I been a car enthusiast all my life, and classic cars has a special place in my heart. I wish I had a classic car, my dream car is a 1959 Cadillac Deville or Fleetwood.
Would love to see a video of that long drive! Also u should do a fluid check and change the oil too it'll probably run better.
I love my honda civic
Super. Freaking. Awesome.
I got it for 1500 and had it for 4 years until an uninsured motorist hit it abd totaled it
Nice video after a long time. Honda's of the time were great cars. I had one for over 8 years with 120000km and no extra repair cost all those years.
My dad had a 84accord EX... it has sunroof, power windows and mirrors, manual transmission... beautiful car.
I had a 1984 Honda Accord and it was one of the best cars I ever had! LOVED that Honda! They are very tough cars!!
Love it when you bring these oldies back to life! Love from Manchester, UK 🇬🇧
Heck man I would keep this one. Total 80's car. New rear glass and replace those busted tail light lens. These did really great on gas.
This honda accord model had the smoothest power steering of all time!
I had an '84 Accord in college. I loved that car but the rust was so bad, i had no choice but to junk it. Great find.
Honda gotta love the reliability I own a Honda Accord myself and it’s just a well built vehicle It’s nice not having to worry about it constantly breaking down
Love to have an old Honda find like that, my dad had that exact car growing up, same color and all, what a throwback
That 01 Maxima is a pretty good car :D, especially if it is a 6 speed manual.
The Accord is probably my favorite out of all of them lol. Love it. Would totally buy it!
Oh der drive. Love these type vids Randy.
I don't find the old cars boring Randy because in retirement that's what a lot of us can afford. It's also what we worked on, and can still understand.
It’s a Honda Randy. She won’t let you down. That is now surely a collectable. With such low miles? Wow. Better made than new cars.
I love the old school teal dashboard lights
That Honda is seriously Sweet, I have a 2007 Civic with 215,000 miles on it and it still runs and drives like new and it’s amazing on Gas .
New battery, new rear window, clean it up a bit. Maybe a new valve cover gasket.
It's going to be a runner. Nice grab Randy!
Hopefully this Honda finds an owner who appreciates it as much as I did mine.
welcome back Randy I love this content bring the old girl back to life!!
def worth putting a back window in an re charge the ac an check the timing belt an that car would make a great car for someone
Man, with the way gas is right now.. I’d drive the wheels off that car!! Aside from the window and little odds and ends, it’s perfect 🤩
