Great car but never going to be worth 4k. Who’d buy a 2001 for 4k when you can easily get a 2005 model and up all day for the same price with lower miles (private party)

Different markets dictate used car values. Old Honda's probably have strong resale in Oklahoma where he lives... Here in Detroit old Honda's are almost worthless clean or not.

    • @southernfarmtech
      @southernfarmtech 5 лет назад +3

Definitely depends on the market. I think 4k is on the high side, but I definitely see it fetching 3k. Here in the South, old Honda Accords and Toyota Camry's are hot as firecrackers. So much so that the Honda dealers and Toyota dealers have stopped wholesaling them, and they keep them on their lot and sell them for that nostalgic factor. They never last long. If you see one on a Honda lot, 1-3 owners, clean, dealer maintained, all documentation, less than 200k, they rarely last a week.

Ever hear the phrase "There is a sucker born every minute?" Anybody who knows anything about cars knows it's worth maybe $2,500 with the paint job. But there are people who will fork over 4K for a 2K car.

@@corionh4775 Nah I'm in oklahoma and the honda resale is average at best. There's plenty of similar mileage accords for around $2000-3000. Maybe it'll pull 3500 on a car lot, but I know two people who got a 2005 and 2007 Accord for under $3000 with less miles.

You got so lucky to have that perfect interior because most people don't usually care for these old cars properly. the first thing I'd do is swap two coils and see if the code changes to the cylinder you swapped the code from. If the code stays on cylinder 4 Try a spark plug, if that doesn't get it I'd try a compression test next. If everything above doesn't get it I'd suspect a bad fuel injector. I just went through the process with a relatives Camry. Bought plugs, wires and coils. didn't fix it. Did compression test, compression was excellent on all 4... turned out it had a dead injector on 2, and a weak injector on 4...

The condition of the interior was a very good sign for that one. Honda interiors of that age don't last too well if they're not taken care of, especially the leather. The fact that that one has a very nice interior for a car with 175k miles on the clock is a very good sign that the owner/s took good care of it. Perhaps, if the original owner had bought it in a lighter colour, the paint would have stood up better to the sun and heat. The fact that someone had gone to the trouble and expense of buying new bonnet/hood struts rather suggests that they were intending on keeping it for a while longer until circumstances changed for them and the car got donated, and they wouldn't be doing that if it was worn smooth, or putting new tyres on what look like recently refurbished alloys...

When I was getting it smog tested, [yes it passed,] the technician said he was surprised how quiet and well the car ran for its age. I've always loved Toyota & Honda. Crazy how Nissan sedans a decade newer sell for the same price (if that tells you something lol) ... On the J series Hondas which is exactly what that V6 Accord is I usually see the passenger side motor mount go bad as well as the front hydraulic motor mount. Personally I recommend replacing all of them with Honda Genuine motor/transmission mounts. It just makes it ride so much better with all new OEM ones. I'm really not a big fan of aftermarket parts on Hondas especially with the ignition coils, unless they are NGKs. In fact, I will tell you from experience that unless they ignition coils are bad, if they are the original Honda genuine ones, DO NOT replace them with any aftermarket coils, again unless it's NGKs. Anything else I believe is garbage. I know a lot about Hondas myself and I am the owner and founder of the Honda Pilot Owners group on Facebook, so if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out and join my group. We'd be happy to help you out.

It handles well in all weather. I now have a 2015 Accord 3.5 L Earth Dreams V6 that is really fast. They no longer make the V6 for the Accord, I think that was not a good decision by Honda. Changes the plugs and check the coils and clean the injectors.. If the previous owners did regular oil changes it should be fine and hopefully not some valve train part. Hey Randy I've been watching your channel for a while. I love it, very unique in comparison to everyone else who is doing the same shit every day. I've always been a Honda and Toyota guy since the late 80s.
You should try your luck with Toyota's. They have great resale value and are easy to fix and maintain. The late 90s and early 2000s Toyota Camry's are indestructible. The 4 cylinder Camrys and Corollas don't use timing belt, they use chain so you wouldn't have to worry about changing the timing belt.
Also parts are everywhere since these cars are popular. I live in Toronto Canada and those are the most popular cars to flip.
You won't find it hard to sell a decent Camry or any Toyota.

Congratulations Randy you paid full retail price for a used salvage Honda. When you bid on a car first of all investigate the true retail value of the SALVAGE vehicle. Hint it is not the one listed by Copart. Then set you bid limit to no more than 1/3 of that value. In other words you should have bid no more than 400 for that Honda. It is better to go for cars in the 10K range winning them for 3K. Also make sure you follow the 2 out of 3 law, body, interior, mechanical, if two of the three are bad deduct additional repair funds from the max bid. Last but not least try to buy SUV style vehicles for they are the most wanted vehicles in current markets.

The transmission on those things are actually not too bad it's the clutches that we're down I meant the transmission slipping into gears it's more like the 99 to 2001 Honda Odysseys that have the transmission issue didn't really hear about it on the Accord and also it has dual exhaust that actually work lol

The auto trans on these sucked a**. Ours grenaded at 29K, stranded us in Myrtle Beach. Took Honda 6 months to fix it. Started slipping and slamming @18K setting a P0780-the dealer tried to tell my GF it was past due for service and denied warranty. After much fiasco, they "flushed" the valve body, they claimed. Second trans failed at 110K, luckily we were not 600 miles from home, after the first failure, we only took my reliable Pontiac on our trips. It was around this time of second trans failure, it started sucking down the oil-almost 2 quarts in between changes. No doubt thats what caused a burnt exhaust valve on ironically, cylinder #4. I did all the maintenance myself, way before factory intervals. Oil and filter every 3K, i replaced the timing belt, tensioner, idlers, water pump at 90K. Every 5th oil change id spill and fill the auto trans with the $10 a quart fluid straight from Honda. I pulled both heads at 120K to have valves reworked, replaced the piston/rings and again replaced all timing components. All Honda parts. I also cleaned the notoriously clogging EGR passages. The third trans also came from Honda and the updated shift cable/linkage and cooler lines that was supposed to correct the failure prone assembly. It almost made it to 200K (199,900 to be exact) when the third tranny lost 4th gear. I finally talked my better half into letting it go. No more Hondas for us. Ive never seen an auto trans just stop pulling altogether like that rice burner did. Hope whoever ends up with this one doesn't trust it far from home.

Due a full service on it oils and Grease DON'T GO OVER BOARD LIKE YOU DONE BEFORE. When you get your shop and maybe higher volume of Vechicles and more shop tools .
I can not blame you got Screwed over by that property owner he lied like mad . Hopefully they closed him down no one getting SCREW like you did . You Clean and improve his property .

Not a steal, still a solid deal. $3500 is a good guess on final price after it's painted & mechanically sorted. Over 200K & the value drops significantly, but at 175K it's way more desirable. To everybody who will disagree: it's selling at a dealership; I know you didn't get that much when you sold yours on Craigslist.

Well I'm a GM guy too, but there's one thing I learned from my brother, nothing runs like a Honda, his first job out of college was a manager at a Honda dealership. Sorry he'd be the expert ask about this car, not my. In my opinion, I don't know if you'll be able to make any cash on it or not, depends on what's all wrong with it, and with a paint job. I don't know, those miles age of the car, I don't think she's worth much over 2 even fixed up. I paint it myself, could probably do it cheaper and have to get a better job then Maaco. However if you don't know what you're doing, well yeah mistakes can cost big money and time. Could be a good learner for you though, I think I could repaint it Easley for $300 in total supplies.

Randy.. Pull the parts off the Buick. You would make triple your money. The Drivers side Door is worth about $300 to $500. The Catalictic Converter is worth about $75. The plush leather interior is worth about $500 to $1000. Give someone else the chance to rebuild their car. Win Win for both parties

I watch all of your videos, but have some advice for you:
    1. Most people want to watch winner cars. Like the Porsche or the pick up trucks. These last two cars are boring as hell. Really dull cars. They don’t have to be expensive or luxury cars. Just interesting cars.
    2. Projects should be mostly winner projects. Every time you loose money, every time you give up, every time you say making money is not important, you disappoint your audience. Be a winner !

Honda for the win.... you’d be hard pressed to find a GM car that old and be in such good condition. I had a 93 2 door Accord that ran like a champ at 200k, I’ve seen people neglect oil changes on them for 30+K miles and they still run like a champ.
Dare you to try that in your camaro.... 😂

$1800-$2200 tops I Had a few of those V6 Honda Accords and they don’t sell that great in excellent condition with decent miles and 175k is not decent miles I say skip the paint.. go for the tune up and detail it then post it up for 1950 firm and let it go
