Alright Dan... I use the XP Deus. I have the 9" & 11" coils. Both are great coils. If you want to know if a target is iron, this tip works 99.9% of the time. Go to basic 2, drop the frequency to 4KHz & save it. When you find your next target & your not sure if its iron, swap over to this program, if the target is not sounding off from your Deus, it's iron, if the target is still sounding off, dig it, it's not iron. Don't detect in this program because the recovery speed is to slow. It's excellent for checking targets only... 4KHz knows iron the best..Give this a go & let me know how you get on mate. GL HH Neil :-)
hi dan I watch all of your videos and I really enjoy them. I want to be a military historian specializing in WWII when I grow up and love watching history pop out of the ground. Thanks for the videos Dan!!!!!
OMG Dan, I love your videos so much, you got me into metal detecting! I've been watching for almost 2 years now. I own both of your Dvds! Hope that you could do some more geocaching one day! Keep it up mate!
The interesting thing about butterflies and moths is their antennae. A moth will either have feathery or straight non-bulb ended antennae. A butterfly will have little bulbs at the end on it's antennae!
12,17 This is certainly a shoe from oxen who ploughed the field. The shoes are completely different from those of horses. The musicians were doing their best !! Thanks for your videos !
Damn Dan, it's been a while since I've watched one of your videos. I must've missed you hitting that Viking gold horde that allowed for this new fancy pants intro. Looks good!
Another great video Dan, thank you. What did you end up doing with the land mine? I assume letting the authorities know but one never knows. It's great to watch and see all the rich history that you can find in the countries you can detect. We find some good things in the USA but the history doesn't go as far back as there. Keep up the great work!
Touching that the inhabitants of such a tiny place should choose to remember their liberators at all...under the circs there's a case to be made that one can perhaps praise rather than forgive their musical efforts...
cogidubnus1953 It was touching but did you notice the absence of youth? we spent 3 years just east of Lux and saw quite a few of the memorials that the locals has erected to the Americans...one of the most moving was Bastogne.
Grandpadew Hi...I suspect the French may be encountering the social changes we've been facing in the UK...in rural areas the youngsters have difficulty staying put...no employment and being priced out of the local housing market by incomers buying second homes or retirement homes...coupled with a lack of rural public transport...so the youngsters move out to the larger towns where there's employment and housing The villages become enclaves for the better off elderly...look at anywhere picture postcardish and count the youngsters/workers on one hand! But it still counts that they remembered...albeit they were largely elderly...
Hey Dan, be careful. In 2008 an American Civil War memorabilia collector was restoring a naval cannonball that he found and the damn thing detonated and killed him. That cannonball was from the 1860's.
+Ragemutt Yeah, ironically modern explosives can degrade and become inert with time but the black powder in that cannonball is a stable mechanical mixture of ingredients that will store indefinitely and ignite as designed as long as it is not wet. I still occasionally use GOEX from an old 1980s can and it's still perfectly functional.
Sporkmaker5150 Wow, I wasn't aware of that. I have a black powder rifle, but I didn't know that it was that stable. In recent years a farmer on a tractor hit an explosive device from WWII while plowing his field and it detonated.
The round things with holes in either end were put on the horns of oxen or bulls I believe, great video and I hope you are feeling better now, gl and hh
I tried to read some of the comments below to see if my question was already answered? So what was done with the unexploded ordnance? Was it an actual mine? It looked like one. So many of these ordnance are still being found from WWII and are still live ordnance. Even if it not pressure sensitive anymore. If this should be thrown into a fire or exposed to a large pressure they could still detonate. Typically an antipersonnel mine which this one looked like had a kill pattern out to about 8 meters or more was this worth that risk?
+jim short Dan has mentioned having to call the authorities when he's found unexploded ordinance in Germany. I suspect his hosts would do the same thing in France. Anywhere that was host to 20th century warfare probably has a department set up for just such disposals.
You guys be careful when prospecting around WWII battlefields . There is a reason why explosive ordnance gets involved when something like the land mine gets discovered. After aging in the ground for 70 years, they're as stable as a pie plate on a stick .
the bell brass coins are french revolution coins (relatively rare) and they are from the 1790-96 period and even the ones found in handed down state are in shit condition so this one is quite nice the higher values where paper money witch are not rare at-all i recently found a attic find of about 100 or so bills in used condition for about 50,- euro's i love the paper patches that people used to glue torn bills back together again most of these patches are bits of letters from the 1760s to 1790s the mint bills can go for high prices
By the looks of it at 11:15 you found the pull ball of a German hand grenade. The silver badge you guys dug up earlier might be from a US uniform to hold service ribbons. Oh, and please don't run around with unknown UXO, you never know with this stuff what might happen next ;)
You have to rerecord the Deep digger dan song. The verse should say" I`m deep Digger Dan ,across the woods I scan , with my metal detector and my pointer ( IN HAND )...hehe it just smoother like that . Just a small pieve hehe. Cheers from Canada.
I started doing medal detecting because of you I haven't posted any videos on it but I will it is a pretty good medal detector I hope when I'm traveling I will see you medal detecting:)
I'll pass on "getting in" on the land mine! That thing could still go BOOM! LOL And yep, those trumpet players are a little rusty. They should have practiced more.
When you find this unexploded ordinance, what risk do you take? Considering Vimy Ridge, where, even today, only SHEEP cut the grass safely (less so for the sheep! ;-)) and have you encountered any poison gas/mustard shells in your diggings?
deepdiggerdan you should go to Cornwall and see what you can find, i heard theres allot of old pirate ship wrecks, there has been plenty of treasure finds washed up on the beaches, also there is allot of untouched land and history in Cornwall.
a smaller coil wont really make that much differance to your finds and it wont go as deep its just luck of the draw .maybe try turning the sensitivity down a bit and notch out some iron .not worth paying $250 for and you will find yourself swinging and wanting to cover more ground eventually .
Hey Dan, When you say it`s 27 degrees, you really mean Celsius, Right? It would be below freezing if it`s 27 degrees. Your video`s are awesome! Keep them coming!
Awesome video dan I love the world war 2 time frame and finding stuff that has been used by people so long ago do you think you will ever go back to Germany?
Hi dan its gordon from stamford sad thats it from france but what a last find a ww2 land mine love it my grandad was out there in a sherman tank and used to tell me his storys thats why im mad on ww2 get in
Hi Dan. Can you do a video on your best finds. ( most expensive. Oldest coolest ect) and educate us In history at the same time ;) YOU ARE AWSOME !!!!!!!.
Hope you feel better soon x you should try detecting in Wales sometime .congrats on the other detectorist admitting they were wrong and being big enough to apologise to you x
***** Another wonderful video Dan thank you. I am very curious about those balls with the holes in them you said you found. I was detecting near an old mining town here in Idaho USA, and found what appears to be around a .45 cal musket ball with a hole in the side. Also, it's not made of lead, but maybe copper or steel. Keep up the great work :)
Ok, I just found a very good possibility online as to what it could be, at least what mine could be. The ringer ball from a hand held bell which would have been in use in an 1800's mining town.
Hi Dan. Congrats on a fantastic trip to France. So your friend found a Land Mine??? Did you guys call the authorities or just toss rocks at it until it went BOOM! lol I'm glad you had a good time. ttyl -Drew
I thought hum, wonder how much a Deus lite costs, bloody hell its $500+ just for a damn coil, about $1500, for that price it should come with a person to dig the bloody holes for ya. Love your videos, hope your making enough money to pay for all those wonderful toys :-)
I really like that you give away your good stuff to people who helped you. That is how metal detecting should work.
the only people i know that have stood in a mind field and laughed about it
Alright Dan... I use the XP Deus. I have the 9" & 11" coils. Both are great coils. If you want to know if a target is iron, this tip works 99.9% of the time. The badge at 10:40 is a US Army first lieutenant rank bar. A lot of the badges back then were sterling silver so very possible it is.
The mine is at 16:58
Thx bro
np
Real mvp
Thx
Thanks
"Come on, GET IN!" *BOOM*
thank you for showing the ceremony at the bridge. as far the band...it's alright. just glad to see people remember sacrifices.
"Don't say cents that's so common Matt"
Love it!
hi dan I watch all of your videos and I really enjoy them. I want to be a military historian specializing in WWII when I grow up and love watching history pop out of the ground. Thanks for the videos Dan!!!!!

dan attempts to tame a moth , if all fails call him a bum
lol

Blank silver badge looks like a 1st lieutenant US army rank
dluff That's correct!
Paul Landry Someone probably got Article 15'd for that
***** amazing video buddy! That live dig even got me jazzed up(excited) haha. Get in!
Hi Dan, Nice buckle...nice finds..love the mine...great adventure from France.....cheers,G;)
Great video Dan! Feel better, and your right.... That band did not play our Star Spangled Banner very well but props for saying so.
Great video Dan! Happy Diggin mate!
good video Dan really enjoy the France finds keep up the good work
My uncle stepped on a landmine at age 21, and lost both legs in France. Be careful!
Dan the plaque said his name was Theodore K. Mister, age 22.
As a brass player and an American, that anthem made me cringe but I really appreciate them playing it regardless. It's the thought that counts.
Another great video Dan, thank you. What did you end up doing with the land mine? I assume letting the authorities know but one never knows. ***** Ya we all have herd better from the us anthem but give the old farts a break lol
That thing with the nails in it that is a old musket stock piece
Touching that the inhabitants of such a tiny place should choose to remember their liberators at all...under the circs there's a case to be made that one can perhaps praise rather than forgive their musical efforts...

+Sir Nils Are you being for real or sarcastic?
Sir Nils Yeah, some of them were, but when they figured out how to make a fuse that would explode on impact, of course that changed the whole game.
+Ragemutt Yeah, ironically modern explosives can degrade and become inert with time but the black powder in that cannonball is a stable mechanical mixture of ingredients that will store indefinitely and ignite as designed as long as it is not wet. Great Video! Gotta love that Deus! Best machine I have ever used!
Hope you get better soon Dan!
Little correction: the medal is for sale. Check out Dan's facebook!
The round bead is probably from the german stick grenades. It sat at the bottom of the string you pulled to detonate it.
Went metal detecting in west kirby beach not far from Elsmere port and found a solid sterling silver ring, come on GET IN
Great video Dan and a great place to search despite the band players, Cheers & Beers

great video mate, that landmine....nippy my bum cakes together if I found one of those lol
happy hunting
Paul
***** just kidding I would've placed frizby with it hahahha

hey Dan are you going to be doing any metal detecting in america?
nice vid mate, love your work, would of been nice to see a few safety pointers for others in your industry but not full bottle on live munition finds.
I'm 11 years old and I'm always interested in his videos
By the looks of it at 11:15 you found the pull ball of a German hand grenade. The silver badge you guys dug up earlier might be from a US uniform to hold service ribbons. Oh, and please don't run around with unknown UXO, you never know with this stuff what might happen next ;)
Dan you can Force your Enemys to eat a Pancake with the Mine inside :D
another great and fun video!!!
awesome and good luck with your next strap! was hoping you would make more videos of your finds! nice to see whats way out your way!!
You have to rerecord the Deep digger dan song. The verse should say" I`m deep Digger Dan ,across the woods I scan , with my metal detector and my pointer ( IN HAND )...hehe it just smoother like that . Just a small pieve hehe. Cheers from Canada.

That silver badge was a Lieutenant badge I think... Or lieutenant colonel...
***** The silver badge you found is an American officer's pin on rank. It's from a First Lieutenant.
Chris Albright Someone must've gotten article 15'd for losing that lol
I'll pass on "getting in" on the land mine! That thing could still go BOOM! LOL
And yep, those trumpet players are a little rusty. They should have practiced more.
I may be mistaken but that bar Matt found could possibly be a an American Lieutenant bar, not to say it is but it did look like one.
Videos are excellent Dan. I want to buy a detector and take it up as a hobby. What do you recommend Dan. I'd be grateful for any advice. Cheers.
When you find this unexploded ordinance, what risk do you take? Considering Vimy Ridge, where, even today, only SHEEP cut the grass safely (less so for the sheep! ;-)) and have you encountered any poison gas/mustard shells in your diggings?

+Deep Digger Dan Have you had any good finds in cornwall?
Gosh it must be fun metal detecting! I cant wait until i get my first metal detector...though im going to have to save up for all the equipment xF
I was hearing the national anthem and wondering? What the, then I seen those three old men. Makes sense. Your due for some gold Dan(:
a smaller coil wont really make that much differance to your finds and it wont go as deep its just luck of the draw .maybe try turning the sensitivity down a bit and notch out some iron .not worth paying $250 for and you will find yourself swinging and wanting to cover more ground eventually .

Only Americans use ferinhight
Awesome video dan I love the world war 2 time frame and finding stuff that has been used by people so long ago do you think you will ever go back to Germany?
Hi dan its gordon from stamford sad thats it from france but what a last find a ww2 land mine love it my grandad was out there in a sherman tank and used to tell me his storys thats why im mad on ww2 get in
Love the vids keep up the good work Dan
That ball thing he found is what is inside of a mortar! And that's what hits you and you wouldn't have a good day.
That thing with the nails is a part of a boot I think. Got a uncle in England who found something alot like that and but in better condition.
great vidieo looks like you had a good time, good finds thanks for sharing
Great video dan!
really nice video dan!
Hi Dan. Can you do a video on your best finds. ( most expensive. Oldest coolest ect) and educate us In history at the same time ;)
YOU ARE AWSOME !!!!!!!.
Dan, the silver badge is American 1st Lieutenant rank.
Hope you feel better soon x you should try detecting in Wales sometime .congrats on the other detectorist admitting they were wrong and being big enough to apologise to you x
It was a really bad anthem. Love the videos. Keep them coming and stay healthy!
bell metal=bronze. bells were melted down due to metal shortage.
***** Another wonderful video Dan thank you. I am very curious about those balls with the holes in them you said you found. Wildlife- I saw 2 turkey vultures ripping a stinky skunk to shreds yesterday. Get in.
at 10.40 its a 1st leutenat US badge or bar i think .
+alex scourou Correct, Ist Lieutenant RankBar is silver, 2nd Lieutenant Bar is gold in colour.
I am new to your channel and was wondering if you ever found a working firearm while digging
Hi Dan. Congrats on a fantastic trip to France. So your friend found a Land Mine??? Did you guys call the authorities or just toss rocks at it until it went BOOM! lol I'm glad you had a good time. ttyl -Drew
Question: Does the XP Deus lite show target id numbers on the headset?
I was going to nice and not say anything about the band, but since you took the words right out of my mouth... Yeah. They were horrible! lol
The little silver badge with the pin on the back looks like an American Army First Lieutenant rank insignia.
that silver bage thing is a lutenint stripe
I subbed man, cool and funny comments in the video's mate
Ouch.... the band needed a warm up I think!
What did you do with the mine
Awesome trip Dan. . . where you off to next
There's a few aa gun battery placements near me i mite try there
We're did u get ur metal detector from
Nice video, I always watch it with my son....
How dangerous was it picking up the landmine like he did, out of curiosity?
If that land mine you's found is live or was live than it could have gone of in your hands or wile it was being dug up
I thought hum, wonder how much a Deus lite costs, bloody hell its $500+ just for a damn coil, about $1500, for that price it should come with a person to dig the bloody holes for ya. Love your videos, hope your making enough money to pay for all those wonderful toys :-)
That land mine should have scared the living crap out of you fellas. What made you believe that it was safe?
the dirt gets in the mine and kinda deactivated it, if you know what I mean
+BanG Clan And sometimes it doesn't, if you know what I mean. But go ahead, throw caution to the wind. :>)
+Mike Prell well 😄😄
+BanG Clan Better you than me, Pal!
Nice hunt!
If you find some random pieces of metal it might be a part of a plane
Is that @11:38 a butt plate from a rifle or shotgun?
Dave The Bass correct, from a Musket!
Dave The Bass butt plate for a fine piece of... hahahaha
Dave The Bass Check out pictures of shoes worn by oxen !!
Dave The Bass most but plates have just 2 screws also to ornate an curvey for rifle but totaly see what ur saying tho
What happened to the mine? did it get disarmed or did they blow it up?
That anthem... it was horrible. When you said "It has to be said" I laughed pretty hard. LOL
Is the land mine for sale
Barking Feline01 Getting sick of your neighbors taking your mail I see?
is the mine is an anti tank mine and wont explode unless you put a lot of weight on it
what incredible irony, i mean, considering where you were.
The beads might be off the lanyard of a German stick grenade.
Are the round things ceramic? IF so, then they might be the pull-ball's of old German stick grenades.
