    As someone who worked in explosive ordnance disposal the first option, walking on the same steps you came in on is far and away the best option. Landmines that go off on the second detonation aren't common enough for you choose any of the other options over that one.

    You mentioned a back pack. Hopefully it contains food, rain gear, and water. I would take my time and clear a spot roughly the size of a small table or twin sized bed. Then in the center start to dig downward using the same techniques I used to clear the small spot. Slowly dig a hole that I can lie in and be below ground level.
    The goal is to build a safe spot for myself.
    Once that is done use the rope and pack, now partly filled with dirt to toss and drag around until I set off a mine.
    Most mine fields are known and locals know where they are. The sound of an explosion will alert anyone in the area that a mine has gone off and sooner or later someone will come and see what happened.
    Set in the hole and look around for the curious to arrive then call for help.
    Army Combat Engineers 22 years service

    • @Tater4200
      @Tater4200 Год назад

      i like this idea. if nobody comes. just keep digging until you reach safety. either digging a tunnel under the mines. or slowly sloughing dirt off the side until you find the side of a mine. then either go around it or remove it.

    The Claymore mine is set off manually with a Det-Cord wire, is not pressure activated, and can easily be handled safely. The letters spelled backwards mean Enemy Reversal Of Mine You Are Lost Cause. And an Explosive Ordinance Disposal tech I called a B-B Stacker, as there job is akin to stacking B-Bs on top of each other. Some EOD units are still clearing minefields from WWI and clearing them requires specialized equipment and training, and is still quite hazardous.

    • @Schwarzvogel1
      @Schwarzvogel1 4 года назад +1

      Indeed, clearing those old WWI minefields would be _extremely_ hazardous since people don't really remember where they are anymore (it's been over 100 years), the mines themselves have shifted in the ground, and the explosives, after a century of being in the ground, are likely very unstable.

    Use at least a 12” knife to probe each step... also, some mines use ground pressure to stabilize once charged... so, if you disturbed it to much it has a chance to set it off...

    I have always wondered why the tanks called 'funnies" that were used in WWII by the British to clear mines weren't still in use, like the tank that had a bunch of chain flails.

      Because they got replaced by purpose-built vehicles. For a modern example, look up the Trojan Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers. Has a giant spiked plow on the front. It is designed to drive directly into a minefield and either detonate them or push them out of the way with the plow to create a safe channel. It can also tow a trailer that launces a rocket-propelled length of hose full of explosives. The explosives clear out a wide channel when they detonate.

    You can just do blast protection on your armor.

    Is it possible to connect multiple landmines with tripwire or any other method? Where if one mine is triggered, other connected mines also triggered?

    It's also worth mentioning that the movie trope of a mine not going off unless you lift your foot off is mostly false.

    M18 anti personnel mine is the most widely used for CQB. The M18 can take different forms. Some have laser designator that detect disturbances up to a few feet, whereas the older variant had cables that would be attached to a wall by the minelayer. The cables were very thin and hard to spot and if touched or disturbed would cause a detonation
    Anti vehicles mines are based off pressure or motion sensors. Pressure plate vehicles mines will typically not detonate if a person stands on them as a certain amount of force is required. This due to the fact that dirt could detonate the mine itself if less pressure was needed. Motion sensors detect disturbances up to several feet in the ground including vehicles and will detonate the closer the disturbances get.
    You’re welcome

    I was deployed in bosnia... they would stack 2 or 3 anti tanks mines on top of eachother and make them so a person could blow them up by stepping on them... and they had these little hockey puck mines wich were terrible and undetectable... we would watch the locals to see where not to go and walk... mines are horrible
