There's also literally no scientific evidence cited and it's 100% speculation/theorizing. Landing at the bottom is basically the same mechanics and transfer of momentum as landing on the ground after jumping without an elevator. I'd love to see someone who actually prefers to land on their back or their stomach after jumping from a raised platform. I'll give them a metal board to strap to themselves to simulate the "floor" of the elevator.

Elevators move along the rails which emergency brakes interact with, they fire once the speed is outside of allowed range. Also a wheel that pulls the wires has brakes, if they fail an elevator starts ascending uncontrollably, there are more chances to "fall up" than to fall down.

my mom had an uncle who died in an elevator accident while working on it ,it crushed him to death, my mom was 97 yrs old and she came to visit me in my 3 story apartment up the stairs ,with cane in hand.she lived to the age of 98.was so afraid of elevators.
My husband and i work in buildings with elevators and they get stuck pretty often but theres been a few times an elevator in his building would shake a bit as it starts moving. I cant help but think of final destination everytime

If the elevator shaft is normal, with all the doors shut (because the elevator is not "at" a particular floor), the elevator will be cushioned a lot by the air trapped underneath it. And if it's a recently made elevator, where particular attention is given to having an elevator "well fitted" to the elevator shaft, that cushion will be incredibly effective in slowing down the max drop speed.
But what to do to maximize survival?
When you start the drop, whip off your belt, lift the roof door (ALL Elevators have them) enough to trap the buckle above the roof door. Get a good grip on the belt, suspending yourself under the roof door, and hold on for dear life. The force of impact when the elevator hits bottom will almost certainly make you lose your grip on the belt, but NOT before you have expended a considerable amount of your momentum. Possibly even reducing it by half. Possibly changing a fatal accident into an impact that breaks no bones. Also aiding you will be that the elevator roof, on impact, will bend downward with you, at a diminished speed, and improve the effectiveness of your belt-grip deceleration . The object is to survive...not look cool.
I would hardly call it a "miracle" if all for cables sheered off. I would call it whatever the opposite of a miracle is, lol. 😂

If anyone is actually worried about this, don’t be. Modern elevators have extremely advanced emergency brakes that will stop the elevator from crashing. If they fail, you’ll most likely die a quick, painless death depending on the height you’re falling from.

Only twice in recorded history have elevator cables snapped. One was when a plane hit the Empire State Building and he lady survived! The second was 9/11. Each cable is capable of holding 20x the max weight of the car. I’m an elevator tech I know these things you have nothing to worry about

I was stuck in an elevator once and pressing the emergency button had no response. My mobile also could not get a signal. Then I found that if I move near the gaps at the door, I was able to get a strong enough signal to call for help.

On a lift u generally have 2 cable
1main cable: cable start at the cabin>whelle>motor>whight
2 brake line: start at cabin>whelle>whight if main cable snap the the whieght will go down and will pull the second cable that will pull the brake and stuck it between the ahft and. Car
If the brake line snap after the main cable, it will just snap the cable, the brake are stuck and u need to push the car up to unstuck brakes.

My nearest mall doesn't even have standard stairs, only escalators and elevators. After seeing an episode of rescue 911 as a kid where a little boy got caught in an escalator.; I prefer taking time looking for one of the few elevators than taking a chance on what I call Satan's Staircase.
