good idea, great execution! I'd suggest one little construction change: instead of wielding the nagel on, you ought to make it longer and install as a pin, peening it on the other side of the crossguard. Love the final product- hope you made a nice scabbard for it too! :)
This image of your yard, lighting, sky, trees, houses, grass it just screams Eastern Europe. I felt such strong nostalgia or connection to my childhood
Meh, not really. His tools and shop give off slavic vibes alright, but that yard is definitely not eastern lol Its more fancy looking xD It threw me off... I had to check which country was it and of course its Slovakia :D
real nice job dude, and very good edge alignment. you can tell that by the sound it makes when your cutting + the bottles are staying in place. i made my messer from an old bandsawblade. and just for you to know, it is called "langes Messer" that is the real name and writing of this weapon. i know because i speak german and also do HEMA. you could have made the guard and the "Nagel" also a bit longer. best regards from Austria
Wow!! Nice work!! (Good form with your cuts too!!).......this was a HUGE flash back for me, I was doing similar things, (Albeit with FAR less equipment) back when I was a teenager in the 1980's!!! Bravo!!!!
Awesome job man!, it was beautiful and you have a lot of skill, I also have like a rythm when I hammer things hehehe, I hit the anvil first then the piece like making music. I only have two observations, 1 careful with the groin when hammering. and 2 don't weld if the wd40 is near your, things could get nasty.
Wow awesome idea bro .. keep up the great work. i always thought about making a video on how to turn an old machete to a chinese war sword! let's see how its gonna turn out 😊
I bet the balance was pretty nice and relatively close to the hand. The guard and pommel probably put a good bit of the heft (what little there likely is) further back on a blade as light as similar machete usually are. But I’d love stats, too… & I’m sure you’ve probably heard this too, but on blades as thin as that seems to be, distal taper can be unnecessary (if not overkill.)
not bad ! it looks good and it`s functional , only thing I would have done different is the guard , not quite as block , a bit longer top and bottom with an s curve , to better protect the hand , but is is historically correct looks wise , there were several styles ! good job !
Thank you. No, it does not have a distal taper (as a cheap machete) and as far as the heat treatment goes, it seems right (I didn't heat treat it as there was no need to...)
hi just watched grate music. I'm turning 18 this month and looking to do some blacksmithing any advice for a beginners forge or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Love to turn machetes into functional macheteswords, I do it with a dremel tho and a lot of water for cooling, don’t want to ruin the heat treatment again like I did with my Cold Steel Gladius (wanted to reshape it and make it single edge only and ruined the heat treatment, didn’t stay sharp anymore).
Nice Build, but I don't get one thing: Why is everyone using epoxy to glue the handle together. It worked in medieval times without it and I always do my handles without epoxy and never had an issue.
What brand is that panga machete? I see it has a 22” (55cm) blade. The only panga I’ve seen of that size is Imacasa, but this one doesn’t say it’s an Imacasa. I’m interested in getting one in the future.
I don't know if this will help, however on Ebay AU, there is a machete for $11.00 + postage, it has the same shape however ...the edge is on the other side and it uses the shape like a small hook to the one you see here, other than that, you might say they are the same, similar shape and look and so on. They have a 4mm thick blade , overall full tang is over 620 mm the weight is 500 gms, sorry about the metric if you use inches... 24 inches long and close to 3 inches wide, and weighs 17.637 oz's, I think it maybe an 8th of an inch thick, its been a while that I have used inches and feet, sorry. I only know them as bush cutter machete it maybe because of the slight hook on mine, and on youtube, their is a guy restoring an older one like I have but, their is nothing to stop you doing the same, btw, those older ones were made in Germany. I am still waiting for mine in the mail , but like I said, they have the same shape but the Tang will be slightly moved over, but it will be cut anyway so it will get close, so have a look on your local Ebay you never know.
Colby Sinor In Mexico there are a kind of machete shaped like a long cutlass with d guard or cross guard it's traditionally used by mexican cowboys. I think that the result of making a sword from a machete would be the same as one of those but with a thinner blade.
how did you manage not to grind the blade black when you were cutting and grinding it into shape? I pretty much get instant discoloration when working on steel with a grinder.
How in the world did you manage to drill the tang for the pommel cap? I have the same machete and I got inspired by your video years ago when I first saw it, but Im just now getting around actually doing something and Im having problems with the machete steel being too hard for my drill bits. Im either gonna buy carbide bits or anneal it. In any case, Im opting to go that extra mile to make it that much more historically accurate in the hilt department :D
I sanded the edge with a 400 grit sandpaper and then buffed it with a buffing wheel. Sheath? well I think it's the type of thing that is not worth so much effort. I'd much rather spend the time making something new, more interesting...
Teniendo una forja y un martillo como dios manda....manejandonla tecnica como podemos ver y teniendo herramientas sinceramente...me parece absurdo recortar un machete de jardinero...
Skroll #Totallynotgat not nessecarily. A messer usually have a thicker blade than a machete, and has way more blade shapes than the one shown in this video. Furthermore a messer wasn't used for the same things as a machete. But both blades do share a similarity in construction and handling.

The pommel is the most dangerous part of any sword. Great job
Harsh haze indeed that's why that one isn't removable
It’s fun to bash heads with it 😂
Very cool! The blade is of course a bit thin at the base but all-n-all that's an amazing job of turning a machete into a freaking legit messer :)
This image of your yard, lighting, sky, trees, houses, grass it just screams Eastern Europe. I felt such strong nostalgia or connection to my childhood

Its more fancy looking xD
It threw me off...

@@dan_the_dj Jessy, what the fck are you talking about
@@dan_the_dj uhh Wrong. Yes, realy
@@denisdenis3358 well...
Slovakia aint in Easter Europe, so yeah, I agree, youre wrong xD
That came up great! Looks amazing and seems to have some decent cutting power.
That messer is gorgeous!
this is.... probably the greatest thing i've ever seen
real nice job dude, and very good edge alignment. you can tell that by the sound it makes when your cutting + the bottles are staying in place. i made my messer from an old bandsawblade. and just for you to know, it is called "langes Messer" that is the real name and writing of this weapon. i know because i speak german and also do HEMA. you could have made the guard and the "Nagel" also a bit longer. best regards from Austria
depends I've seen some with even shorter guards and Nagels
Wow!! Nice work!! (Good form with your cuts too!!).......this was a HUGE flash back for me, I was doing similar things, (Albeit with FAR less equipment) back when I was a teenager in the 1980's!!! Bravo!!!!
Just saw this. Fantastic! I'm now thinking about making a Valeria's sword from Conan like this. Great work!
dont mess with the messer
Nice job, i'll give forging a try soon looks fun, i've stuck with stock removal so far
good looking hammer from Alec STEELE!
hamlands1 Ha ha, Thanks :D We made it during the tools to make tools class. So much fun!
Anytime! How much did the class set you back?
That`s a pretty kickass sword if I may say so myself :) And I love your choise of music!
1 of the most useful historical swords.
Really nice work and you have great editing. Keep it up!
Awesome build mate, messers are pretty much my favourite swords, I'll have to give it a try if I come across a cheap machete.
InkandFish555 Thank you mate! yeah, give it a try, you'll have fun if anything (for a couple of $) :D
Singular: Das Messer, dem Messer, des Messers/ Plural: Die Messe, den Messern, der Messer. Depends on grammar case. ;-)
That's a pretty fancy machete. 😊
Grosse messer from a machete. Well done!
Thanks!
No, ein großes Messer!
Thumbs up for the music and I'm making one right now.
Great video! I just uploaded an "EDC knife from machete" vid and you popped up in my feed. Great channel!
Awesome looking sword dude! Amazing!
Thanks Floris. Lots more videos to come. Currently working on a damascus knife!
i see that Alec Steele hammer :)

The DevilAngel Thanks bro! The Chinese war sword would be fun. Good luck! :D
Hello fancy seeing you here lol
Hi !
Nice german sword !!!😀😀😀
I would do a greek xiphos or a roman gladius , from a macete like that ...
would you please measure a balance point and total weight and length for me? I am interested how it handles given that it doesn't have distal taper.
I bet the balance was pretty nice and relatively close to the hand. The guard and pommel probably put a good bit of the heft (what little there likely is) further back on a blade as light as similar machete usually are.

3:39 DIY Prince Albert the hardcore way
Nice work dude ! Really like the outcome of the projekt ! I wish my shop was as cool as yours is jet !
Fritz H. Thanks, I appreciate it. My shop is not nearly as cool as I'd like it to be :D
Sehr gut gemacht!
Nice, Its like altair sword with a little extra =)
Jan Roodbol kinda the bevil is diffrent plus there isnt a eagle at the end of the handle
That true indeed. But I think I like your shape a bit more because it has a lot more slashing potential.
That was pretty cool.
The profile of the blade is nice but does the blade have a distal taper and was the heat treatment done right.
Thank you. No, it does not have a distal taper (as a cheap machete) and as far as the heat treatment goes, it seems right (I didn't heat treat it as there was no need to...)
That rebar handguard tho
Unclecomrade420 rebar is great for that application plus it’s easily accessible material.
to parafraise talhoffer “ this man has a messer god help him”
Not many people will get this, but size stick where you using when you where welding
Beautiful falchion
what brand of machete you usued ?
druisteen It looks like it could be a Martindale machete. I restored a very old one of these. They’ve been around for a while.
druisteen it looks like a tramontina

P XIII you're pushing to hard, don't try to take off so much at once. It's a patients thing
P XIII I don't use a glove. When it starts to get too hot, dip it in a bucket of water.
from watching this i got to make one of my own grat idea thx.
Nice job looks good
What did you use to get the cross guard to stay in place
Just friction. Hammered on with a steel tube over the tang. Hasn't loosened up yet...
Great job!
Nice job !
How in the world did you manage to drill the tang for the pommel cap?

music in the video? while buildin the sword
Did you use the pieces of the old handle as fuel for your fire? Talk about an insult to injury for the machete.
Simple way to make gladius
Better than I expected. But the nail should be peened through the tang and guard not welded. But looks nice anyway.
nasty messer ladies and gentlemen
You've made a big knife (grosse messer) from a machete now make an actual sword!
Großes Messer, please ;-)
Good job bro
Awesome 2 things, how about a sheath for it, and another thing, how did you get it so sharp???
I sanded the edge with a 400 grit sandpaper and then buffed it with a buffing wheel. Sheath? well I think it's the type of thing that is not worth so much effort. I'd much rather spend the time making something new, more interesting...
TheIndependentSheep then you want an idea how about making a bollocks dagger?
Can I commission you to make me one with a knuckle bow?! :D
muy interesante trabajo amigo
Did you add a distal taper?
What's the name of the first song ?
Bustin Loose (with lead) by Audionautix is the second one.
I think it was 44 cal according to the book im reading but i may be wrong.
how long was the blade?
aaaannd subscribed lol awsome vid

Thanks. Much appreciated!
Falchion?
What is the last song?

Nick Butler Looks like it’s 55cm or 22” from the sticker in the beginning.
Muy bue trabajo
cool
How much does it weigh and how long is it?
It weighs about 570grams/ 20 oz
Overall lenght is 65,5cm / 25,7 inch
Blade length: 53cm
TheIndependentSheep dang
is your hammer made by alec steele?
Yup! I took a class with him
No Toby
Ty si Slovák? :D
*click* Nice!
Look like an großer messer
Großes Messer.
Freddy fazbear at 4:15.
why would you make your sword SHORTER?
Arthur Wu Perhaps so that its balanced correctly so that he could fight with it, or simply to get the design he wanted.
The clue is in the name, langmesser (long knife)
Johan Ofinlohigh does not matter the size of the blade but the integrality of the one wielding it.
HOFIUS_ Oh give me a break ffs
Jay moh Fight with it!? Been watch knights of the round table again.....
Why the fuck aren't you using leather gloves when handling INSANELY hot metal??
Надо заняться фитнесом или боксом☺
make a gun
Wonder how bad that grinding F'd up the heat treat.
Teniendo una forja y un martillo como dios manda....manejandonla tecnica como podemos ver y teniendo herramientas sinceramente...me parece absurdo recortar un machete de jardinero...
Зачем портить мачете?
That looks Groß
I think you meant machete into a knife. A long knife, but a knife nonetheless.
Weird the "sword" is just a machete from a different country
Skroll #Totallynotgat not nessecarily. A messer usually have a thicker blade than a machete, and has way more blade shapes than the one shown in this video. Furthermore a messer wasn't used for the same things as a machete. But both blades do share a similarity in construction and handling.

How to turn a machete into a machete
