- Elizabeth Schuyler is born on August 9, 1757 in Albany to a wealthy Dutch family. A tomboy as a child, she grows into a strong-willed and impulsive woman and soon meets her future husband Alexander Hamilton. The two marry in less than a year and begin to start a family despite the ongoing American Revolution. She supports her husband in the early years of the American Republic; assisting with the Federalist Papers, the defense of the Bank of the United States and Washington’s Farewell Address. Eliza stands by her husband when his infidelity is revealed in the Reynolds Pamphlet. After her eldest son and husband are both killed in duels, she founds the Orphan Asylum Society, the first private orphanage in New York City, known today as Graham Windham. In 1854, Eliza dies at the age of 97, having dedicated 42 years of her life to an organization that continues to provide services to children and families more than 200 years later.

The picture you showed for Maria Reynolds was not actually Maria Reynolds. Common misconception, but she wasn't wealthy enough to have a portrait of her. The actual women in the painting is Maria Fitzherbert. Also, at 0:09, that was indeed not Eliza, but Elizabeth Randolph Bland. Sorry if this was rude, just clarifying things :)
I saw that on a website, too. I've learned to recognize her facial features when looking at portraits. Also, thank you for the info on Maria! When I saw she "had a portrait" I was very confused, we are told that she did not have a lot of money. Thanks!
She lived so long! I had no idea
Agreed... and without the joys of modern medicine and dentistry.
She lived another 50 years
@@meiju1563 That wasn't enough! She interviewed every soldier that faught by his(Alexander) side! (She tells our story!~)
@@aweirdbookworm4009 she speak out against slavery, He could have done so much more if he only had timeeee
@@aweirdbookworm4009 I told his story.
I have seen some of the musical, and when I found that she indeed founded an orphanage I actually cried.
Hamilton was amazing!
I've been waiting for this one! What a life she lived, so inspired by her dedication.

@@leetehehee7464 The Schuyler sisters!
Great Video! But you pronounced Albany wrong. Its pronounced "All-Buh-Nee" you said it like Al-Buh-Nee" its All, like the word not Al, like the name.
I admire Elizabeth though, i think she was pretty awesome.
I forgot to ask, could you please make a Video of Eleanor of Aquitaine. I don't know much about her but would like to learn more! Thank You!
Sounds great! We are building our Women of History episodes, so thanks for the recommendation.
WORK, WORK!
