      Wait,so all the liquid that he collected up to a glass full isn't all essential oil? Just the last part where he used a syringe and needle and stored in a brown bottle, that's the essential oil??

      @@83lamcha Yes. He mixes water with the plant material to evaporate the oil alongside the water, so they both pour out of the second pot that has the ice / cold water to condense the vapor back into liquid. Since oil is less dense than water it'll float to the top, hense why he was able to extract using a syringe.

    Awesome, just awesome. I just moved into a house on a bunch of land with I suspect great soil. In Seattle, in a huge oasis in the city. I have a stream runs around 3 sides of the house. A front yard, side yard, greenhouse and a huge huge field not being used. I want to plant a huge garden. Only thing is, I haven't ever gardened before. I make my own body products and I was watching a video on rose essential oil. It's so expensive. I also cook using lots of fresh produce. Would love a garden. terrible waste of space not to have one.

    • @HaveYouSeenMyGardens
      @HaveYouSeenMyGardens 6 лет назад +9

      If you do end up getting big on gardening I would offer one major piece of advice. Either layer 2-3 inches of manure on top of your soil, or lightly till it into the topsoil, then add 1-2 inches of wood chips or leaves on top of that. The trick is to spread your seeds before you add the wood chips, and I've had great success with no tilling! You don't kill off any microbes or worms and it's a lot less work. If your savvy or know your local community try contacting ranches or farms for the manure and tree service companies to see if they can drop it off at your property either for free (wood chips and leaves) or a relatively small cost for the manure.

      Jenny Simon Troy gave u great ideas. I havent ever gardened before dont give up Watch on youtube videos and documentaries about Paul Gautchi's Back to Eden. He teaches everything you need to know about gardening in 5 hours videos. Watch different tours there are many different videos and years on his garden. He makes everything easy. Nature and gardening is easy peasy u just need patience at the start of your soil over the years everything transforms and gets better as time goes by. I did experience myself it is amazing i do as well have roses and planing on harvesting the flowers to get the aromatic oil its smells soo fragant good lucky honey! God bless you and your family

    • @YamiKisara
      @YamiKisara 6 лет назад +1

      Just do what feels natural to you, maybe watch a few videos, but gardening is no science, just go by your heart and maybe change things up next year when something didn't work. And since you seem interested in doing things the natural and healthy way, try looking up permaculture, Sepp Holzer specifically - it short, it's the natural way of things, vegetables, herbs and weeds all growing together and animals feeding on them and providing fertilizer, it takes little to no work to care for such a garden and it takes good care of the soil while providing you with vitamin-packed produce. If you have so much water avaiable, raising some fish or crawfish and plants heavily relying on water too. Best of luck!

      Hi
      I retired 8 months ago and have sallied forth with great enthusiasm into converting my rather staid lawn / shrubs / flowers garden (½ your size) into organic vegetable / herb.
      Undoubtedly you will be getting much sage and otherwise flowery advice and useful tips...
      Mine are a bit mundane...
      (i) Get some knee protectors. Scrap Styrofoam packaging works well
      (ii) Get some anti-inflammatory back rub... If you're over 40 or not too fit you will need it...
      (iii) Get into the habit of putting on gloves immediately you think "garden"
      (iv) Ditto (iii) but substitute "gloves" with "hat" and "ankle gumboots (with thin socks)"
      You will be amazed at how much better your plants will grow....

      You're funny. But that's true. However, the NASA lab types are producing essential oils in clinically precise and clean ways to eliminate any impurities in the finished product, presumably for commercial type production. Please be very aware that essential oil production with this method, produces a volatile (highly flammable) vapour, and if enough builds up in a non ventilated room, you can quite literally, blow your house up if the concentration of volatile oils in the confined atmosphere meets a naked flame. So yes, it's that simple to get 3rd degree burns over most of your body if you're not aware of the ventilation issue.

      @CindyKQ I would strongly suggest you not freezing your oil, from what I've read oil won't freeze per say but it will create little crystalize bits that could stick to the ice from the water.

      Thanks for your uplifting comment. I am sure you can use your pressure cooker. The one I used is a relatively modern one. There is actually no pressure build up as the pressure is release through the condenser outlet.

    Wow, very cool. Looks like a fun hobby. It took me a minute to understand why a cup full of liquid yealded a 1/4 of a tiny vile but realized you were removing the water off of the oil. Makes my want to buy a still and get a bucket full of lemon peels.

    • @gaetanproductions

      Thanks Ruth :) I was lucky, someone gave it to me, they didn't use it any more. They do cost quite a bit.... You definitely can find them new on line. Their different names are: pressure cooker, autocuiseur (in French) and cocotte minute (also in French) Perhaps the models differ depending on the countries,

      Not like any pressure cooker I have ever seen because pressure cookers don’t come with cooling coils. I am so envious. Stills online are expensive and complicated.

    • @TheSeanjohn2012

      It's a simple distillator. That's the actual name, not me making fun of anyone. The big pot with the coil is a makeshift leibel condenser. The distiller turns the water into vapors, it's travels through the metal tube, which is attached to the end of the pressure cooker(the simple distiller) using an iron zip tie(idk what it's called honestly). The tube has the same immer diameter as the outer diameter of the end of the pressure cooker. The tube is then attached to a copper coil using an attachment which attaches the outer diameter of the copper coil on one end, and the outer diameter of the metal tube on the other. The copper cool has been twisted around a round object with a diameter smaller than that of the pot and then placed in it. The water and ice are meant to condense(liquify) the vapours into the essential oil.

    Such a great share, beautifully presented. How do you like the end product. Does the quality beat what you can buy?

    • @gaetanproductions
      @gaetanproductions  6 лет назад +7

      Thanks Tom. The end product is AMAZING ! Knowing where the plant came from (my garden) and making the product myself gives so much satisfaction and for me contributes to the quality of the oil... The perfume of the oil is divine. The process is simple. Quality wise this beats anything being commercially made and sold! This being said I do not have a laboratory at home to analyze and compare what I made.

      The oil always floats at the top, so the water was removed using a syringe, as not to suck up any oil from the top. Once only oil was left, it was put into the brown bottle.
