On the subject of Hunk, I think he personifies the idea, "courage is not the absences of fear, rather it is the strength to persist in spite of fear.
I think the messier parts of this season (besides how Adam was handled) is the fact that they didn't have time to unload the cow when the final battle started. Is she okay because their Lions took quite the beating
Ana Colotla you could see that they had left that cow on saturn when the lions came to earth
If the voltron crew hadn't done a whole segment on adam before the season dropped, we probably wouldn't have even known his name until shiro came back :/
If shiro and Adam had gotten to meet and embrace...repair the strain on the relationship...THEN adam died, it would have had more weight (also would have made me cry). I didn't even realize he died with such little screen time.
THEY PUT A PLANET (the balmera) RIGHT NEXT TO EARTH AND NOTHING HAPPENED TO ITS ORBIT
mac and cheesios 😂😂😂i wondered what planet that was. That’s not weird
Eh, I'm sure there's some magical explanation for it.
@@merrittanimation7721 a wizard did it
"He should know enough about Voltron by now, just through osmosis..." I CACKLED
What I found cool is that if that last Ep were the Finale of the series - and we got nothing else! I would be happy with that! BUT - Not only did they provide a great finale they implemented the groundwork for Next Season to be Vehicle Force Voltron! In a way that actually makes sense! And allows them to actually exist in the same storyverse !
The Hunk development was great and I loved the tender moment between him and Keith. It made me so happy.
Sendak is not a king but a lakey. Hagar probably instructed him to go to Earth and retrieve Voltron.
And then you remember the fact that he was working on his own for the last 4 years... yeah, he was not a lakey.
Idk I feel like the show was really shitting on Lance this season. Like he did some awesome stuff but I feel like he was never validated by any of the other characters except Allura on occasion who suddenly has feelings for him after 6 seasons of being uninterested. I also feel like this sorta leads into the trope of "just be persistent and she'll fall for you eventually".
I LOVED VERONICA
I think part of the problem with Adam and why people got so angry was that the fans hyped it up way more than it needed to be. The episode originally said they were "best friends" (something the Japanese version still uses) because they were limited in what they could show. They merely confirmed at Comic-Con that they were together and the fans took that hype too far so now some of them are SENDING LITERAL DEATH THREATS TO THE CREATORS AND VOICE ACTORS.
I in no way approve of threats, but I was disappointed, they made it seem like it was an actual relationship or that....spoilers
Adam would be an actual part of the plot, Netflix even has some banners that have Adam with his back turned taking up more than 50% of the picture with Shiro in the foreground. I tend to be really harsh on what qualifies as queer baiting and this honestly does and that’s because of the announcement and Netflix’s banner. If they simply said nothing and let people just speculate themselves that there was a deeper relationship I wouldn’t count it as queer baiting, but they did and Adam ended up having one line and then died in battle so quickly and unremarkably that I didn’t even know it was him at the time. They could have actually removed every scene with Adam (featured or mentioned) and NOTHING would be different.
OMG! I love this!!! Thank you AJ!!!!!
I thought in episode 6 it had only been 10 - 15 minutes and the pitcher plant made it seem like weeks to months. Because as soon as the illusion of earth is broken they dont look as worn down
That's possible.
AJ, how do you feel about Allura and Lance being hinted at in this season? I understand if you don’t want to answer this (trust me, I have seen the raging hell fires in certain tags going on on tumblr), but I’m curious to know if you think this is good or bad for Allura’s character. Aside from it being a pretty cliche trope if Lance were to end up with Allura, she just had her heartbroken by Lotor and, in my opinion, doesn’t really need to have a romantic partner in the series. You talked about pretty much everything else I could think of about the series, so I figured this might be something worth mentioning.
I'm mostly indifferent to it. I think it can work if handled well, but that's about it.
I thought the season was great plot wise and did amazingly well developing some friendships between the Paladins and such the thing that killed it for most people were the ships like klance and shadam. I guess you could blame the fandom for that and tell us to trust the writers but I feel like they should know how we’d react I just hope we get more lgbtq+ rep in season 8, and more than just Shiro being there (not that I don’t love shiro) but an actual relationship.
And why lgbtq+rep is necessary exactly?
The writers were very persistent at SDCC about Adam and Shiro’s relationship, so can we really trust them with that sort of thing?
Ryujin bc theres way too many shows, animated or not that focus heavily on a heterosexual relationships and actually give them effective plot development the is sorely missed when shows focus on lgbtq+ characters and their relationships. Im not dismissing the shows that do get it right.
Tyree Randall
Okay, I can understand that, I'm sorry that Season 7 disappointed you in that regard.
I would probably be also "upset" if the writers made Adam more stand out out of the crowd, make me actually care for him, just a little bit. Or if I was fan of LGBT's or just a member of LGBT community but I am not.
Well, it could end up differently depending on the execution, generally any other way would be better than the one they took.
Also what "+" stands for?
Ryujin other sexualities that don’t start with the letters “LGBTQ”
I think 'Fued' (while a little dumb) could have been better to add some more cosmic horror to the series. I like the idea of crazy reality bending being that is pretty flippant about the rest of the galaxy. I just wish it was better implemented than just a game show to the death. Also what happened to Axca? She helped the Paladins leave and by the next episode she was gone and didn't pop back up until the last episode in ONE scene. How did she find a ship? Where did she go? I call BS.
One last thing I hate is how many times the Paladins are just knocked out. I counted around 5 times in the last 2 episodes that the Paladins were knocked out. And Admiral Sanda was JUST THE WORSE. In the beginning, she was at least sort of right about the idea of causing worldwide panic but quickly fell apart in the last few episodes. The trope is stupid, I hate it.
My biggest problem was how the giant robot thing (the one that attacked them, not the new ship) just came out of nowhere at the end. You already had gotten a bunch of character development before hand and I didn't feel any growth was happening for anyone, which didn't help the fact we had no idea where the thing came from or how it related to everything. I did like the final reveal of what it actually was but I feel like it could've been foreshadowed better. I honestly thought it might be some kind of quintescence warped Lotor or something, so the actual thing was better.
Also can we talk about that little bit of Earth lore we were introduced to, about the military and previous wars in this advanced society? It doesn’t matter a whole lot but I feel that it would be interesting if you talked about it briefly in a video or something. Idk if it would count as spoilers if I mentioned that one little detail I found really interesting.
Season 7 made me wanting more. Why did the Alteans attack Earth? What was the coalition doing? Where is Hagar? And are the paladins even in their own reality? The last question we can't be sure about.
Im pretty sure the altean was being controlled by hagar. Since she found out about them last season.
Yeah I think Hagar went to the Altean colony and kidnapped them to use in some advanced robeast project. Would make sense and why they're so similar to Lotor's project.
I also think that the two former generals commenting on Aksha's unwillingness to attack to Kieth was a poke at shippers.
The Random Hamlet
Sameeeeeeeeeeeee
It seemed to me that taking down the Voltron Lions and their Paladins was personal in some way for Sendak. I mean, they DID humiliate him, utterly defeated him, stole his memories (copied, but you get the idea), shunted him into space to die, and stole the Galra throne from him by meddling in their coronation challenge ritual. The "get the Lions" plan seemed just as important as the "I want to make the Paladins suffer" plan.
Also, it'd be Bury Your Gays AND Women in Refrigerators but genderswapped. Two super problematic tropes in one.
Maybe, but wouldn't he want to win his seat of power and then come with the full force of the empire to hurt them as much as possible?
Technically it's only fridging if it spurs the significant other of the dead character to action on their personal journey, but Shiro didn't need any more motivation to take the actions that he did. Like the was it or wasn't it discussion still needs to happen, just, I think, not for this particular reason.
I agree with everything you said, so the only thing I'd like to add is that maybe instead of the game show episode (because that one felt mostly pointless in a way previously zany episodes like that like the space mall and dungeons and dragons episodes didn't) we got another episode on Earth, maybe to get to know the new guys or maybe develop Shiro's boyfriend a little more before they killed him off. Idk
I personally didn't find Adam to be character that needed some character development (as many other "gay characters"), he was meant to be killed, he was killed and that's it, not that big of a deal to me.
I think the game show episode was necessary, you remember how Bob was like: who do you think shouldn’t be trapped here for eternity? And they all picked other people, i think that was the start of them better bonding. Because the dynamic of Voltron had to change. It was just really random episode.
But the Adam thing...I shop shiro with myself soooo......lol i was ready to see them interact and then he was just dead and i was like 🤭
I might have liked the game show episode more if not for:
1. The fact that Paladins later also had a trippy episode later that had more character development
2. I wanted to know what happened from Axca about what happened in their absence. I realize that they're probably saving that for whenever they get back to Hagar but it was kinda jarring to go from that to the game show.
3. General development stuff missed out by that episode
the admiral that told the galra about voltron's plan I forget her name was such a terrible character and I was glad that she died at the end of the 3rd to last episode
VanguardPlays
Mannnn Keith pissed me off when he held her as she died. I woulda dropped and kicked her ass😂
She was just a plot excuse to put the MC in charge of the military. She never existed before and will never be mentioned again.
I was glad to see Shae again. I've been waiting for her to show up again.
Man, I hated that stupid admiral. My only real issue with this season is the demonizing of the military.
my friend hated it I like it
"close to a bury your gays" nah man it's straight up a bury your gays moment lol ugh why bother bigging up your character to be "ooh he has a male lover", only to kill him off. I'd prefer no representation to constant "you don't get a happy ending" representation that the media always seems to go for
I actually didn't like the beginning part of this season very much. Yes, there's some good episodes, but I think that stupid game show episode that came outta no where really soured the first part of it for me. I might just be that one episode, so you know how much I hate it.
It just came at a time where if they were going to give us filler, AND THIS EPISODE IS VERY MUCH FILLER, then it should have been a bit more interesting and logical. That episode just seemed so slapped together, I HATED IT.
This season was messy and had a bunch of filler(Roughly 2 episodes worth) and not enough character moments, it had some but not nearly enough.
I think this is the worst season of the show (it was still solid) but like oof. Tack on Adam who was basically there because.....Shiro needed an anchor on earth I guess? but that got zero exploration outside of like 4 scenes that probably don't even add up to 5 minutes of screentime.
Sindak is the best villain in Voltron. Fight me;)
